Officials with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) have warned that Russia has launched a plan to interfere in the 2024 election to bolster the chances of former President Trump being re-elected.

In a briefing with reporters on Tuesday, ODNI officials said that Russia is the "preeminent threat" to the election and that while China doesn't plan to influence the outcome of the presidential race, the communist nation is being carefully monitored to see if it mingles in down-ballot races.

Russia doesn't favor the political family it paid millions of dollars to! No, it favors Trump.

"It's all the tactics we've seen before, primarily through social media, efforts using influential U.S. voices to amplify their narratives and other tactics," an official said. "And as far as who they're targeting, what we can say today is, Russia is sophisticated enough to know that, targeting swing state voters is, particularly valuable to them."

I wonder if Russia is creating "cheap fakes" showing Biden to be old and incoherent.

Officials said that the intelligence community expects Russia will increase its underhanded activities as U.S. election day gets closer in order to manipulate public opinion, underscoring the threat to America's political landscape.

Oh dear, American intelligence worries that Russian intelligence will manipulate American public opinion. That's our job, you Russkies!

Although former President Trump was not named specifically, ODNI officials said that the Russian interference is mimicking what it says were similar preferences for U.S. presidential candidates seen in previous election cycles.

Russia is "undertaking a whole-of-government approach to influence the election, including the presidential race, Congress and public opinion," the official said, noting that Russia has grown "more sophisticated" over the years in election interference.

The Kremlin, officials said, is seeking to influence specific voting groups in swing states, as well as looking to promote divisive narratives and denigrate specific politicians, although no specifics were provided.

Putin has publicly repeatedly told anyone who asked that his preferred candidate is Biden for the obvious reasons. This is an unprecedented statement by a Russian leader. But I'm sure there are some Facebook ads or something showing the opposite.

Last month, Biden bragged about knowing Vladimir Putin for over 40 years.

Putin was a KGB agent until the 90s. There is no way this buffoon would have even known of him, let alone know him in the 80s.

But Biden is a congenital liar and braggart, and he is more and more unmoored from reality due to his Parkinson's.

NBC News chief political analyst Chuck Todd claimed on Wednesday a senior cabinet secretary told him in 2022 that Biden couldn't run again.

The former "Meet the Press" host discussed dwindling confidence in Biden's campaign on his podcast "The Chuck Toddcast" with Politico columnist Jonathan Martin. While floating potential exit paths for Biden to step down, both criticized Democratic Party members for refusing to publicly voice their concerns.

"The politicians of the Democratic Party in the last few days have shown that a lot of them don't have the courage of their convictions. They simply aren't going to stand up and say in public what they've been telling folks like us in private for years. This is not a new story," Martin said.

It's is a new story, at least among your leftwing Marxist propaganda outlets, because you covered it up for years.

NBC's Chuck Todd suggested Biden's diminishing mental ability is the "classic open secret" in politics.

So you admit you were all keeping it secret from the public. You Insiders all knew, but you hid the information from the people so that you could manipulate them.

Todd recounted, "I had a cabinet secretary two years ago, two years ago, out of the blue asked me, 'Do you really think he's gonna? He can't run again like this.' And I said, 'Well, you have more action with him than I do.' And they said, 'I don't have a lot of interaction with him.' This is a pretty senior cabinet secretary. This was two years ago."

He added, "It's the classic open secret, the nonversation. It's the story everybody knows, and that everybody was afraid to talk about."

It's not just that Chuck Todd is now reporting -- when it is useful to the Party -- that Biden has had dementia for years and all the Insiders knew it.

He's also now decided to report that Insiders have always known that Biden is an egotistical asshole, too.

Todd was also critical of Biden's insistence on staying in the race, arguing that this could change history's view of the 46th president.

"Everything I've learned, it has made me rethink a lot of the Biden biography. I still can't believe he ran for president in the first place, given that his family was in crisis in 2018. You look at what has happened, I can't believe he has put his family through this. And now, looking at his behavior now, in clinging to this, I think the entire narrative on Joe Biden is gonna change. Everything's always been about his ambition and his ambition comes first," he said.

On NBC "News," a Parkinson's doctor stated that it's fact that Biden has Parkinson's. He says he has all of the signs of the disease, and that he could diagnose him within moments of observing him.

Meanwhile, Biden's staff is calling up DNC delegates, pretending to just want to talk about "logistics," and then seguing abruptly to the real purpose of the call: grilling them about their intentions at the convention and asking them to pledge their loyalty to Doctor President Jill Biden.

Fearing a floor revolt against his nomination, President Biden's aides are telephoning individual delegates to next month's Democratic convention to gauge their loyalty to the president, according to three delegates who received a call this week.

After a round of introductory questions confirming each delegate was still planning on going to Chicago and asking if they had served as delegate before, the Biden aide making the calls got to the point, the Democratic activists recalled to me in separate interviews.

One of the delegates said the line of questioning turned with an inquiry along the lines of, "Do you understand what being a pledged delegate means?" before the aide asked: "Do you have any potential disagreements with the president?"

Another delegate said the bottom-line question was even more direct. "'Is there any reason you couldn't or wouldn't support the president at the convention?'" the delegate recalled the aide asking.

The third delegate said the version he received was more open-ended: "'Do you have any concerns?'"

The delegates were thunderstruck at the calls. One of them initially wondered if it was some sort of prank until double-checking the caller ID and seeing Delaware's area code, 302. After hanging up, each of them reached out to other convention delegates they knew and found these individuals also received the calls.

The three delegates I spoke to, all long-standing veterans of Democratic campaigns, said they had the same initial reaction after hanging up with the Biden aide: Was this an attempt by the president's campaign to potentially block or replace disloyal pledged delegates?

The delegates I spoke to said they'd like to choose a new nominee.

"We're so scared of disunity or chaos, but we need a game changer because we're behind," said one of the delegates. "Why not have a weeklong reality show people watch because there's real drama and not just a coronation, multiple prime-time slots featuring our best young talent?" The delegate added: "The whole problem with Biden is he can't prosecute the case against Trump, well, we have a dozen people who can, so let's show them."

None of the delegates I spoke to want to break their commitment -- although one of them has considered potential election lawyers to consult if necessary -- and prefer Biden to release them from their commitment.

Each of them was veering between sadness and anger, the same emotions most Democrats are struggling with in this moment of crisis for the party.

"I'm struggling with words to come up with words about how frustrating this is," one of them said.

Jonathan Martin updates: A fourth and fifth sixth delegate reached out to him saying that Biden's campaign had called them with the same script. And then a "half dozen more" told him the same story.

Donors Are Hanging Up on Joe Biden's Fundraisers

'It's already disastrous': Biden campaign fundraising takes a major hit

Sources close to the re-election efforts say fundraising is set to drop possibly by half this month. A campaign spokesperson pushed back, saying "grassroots" dollars were strong.

They're continuing to push the claim that "the elites" want Middle Class Joe out of the race, but "the people," "the grassroots" are with him.

President Joe Biden's campaign has already suffered a major slowdown in donations and officials are bracing for a seismic fundraising hit, with the fallout from a debate nearly two weeks ago taking a sizable toll on operations, according to four sources close to the re-election effort.

"It's already disastrous," one of the sources close to Biden's re-election said of fundraising.

"The money has absolutely shut off," another source close to the re-election said.

Two of the sources said this month is on a path to be down by possibly half -- "or much more," one of them said -- from large donors alone. Sources emphasized that the donations were down across the board.

"Donors are negative. They had a call with the president. The call seemed so contrived to people; I don't think they buy it," one of the people close to the campaign said, referring to a recent national fundraising call between Biden and donors. "They called on people who were the most loyal, die-hard ... There were no tough questions for the president."

Initially after the debate, the campaign reported an uptick in donors. But that quickly fell off, the sources said.

A Biden campaign spokesperson pushed back against the notion that fundraising was down. "That's not accurate," spokesperson Lauren Hitt said. "On grassroots fundraising, the first seven days of July were the best start to the month on the campaign -- and many of those were first-time donors. On the high-dollar side, we've had folks max out since the debate, as well."

Hitt didn't share how many donors have hit the maximum allowed under federal law since the debate.

One of the people close to the re-election efforts said this week that the campaign believed major donors who have threatened to jump ship after the debate would come around -- if only to avoid helping former President Donald Trump by sitting out the race.

Biden aides had said privately that "if major donors don't come along, we'll do it without them."

Biden is now suffering the most brutal humiliation. This is the worst example of the Trump Curse that I can remember.

The donors boycotting Biden may prove that "the elites" want Biden out.

On the other hand, a recent poll shows that 58% of Democrats want him out.

And most Democrats, despite their fervent belief that they are members of the aristocracy, are not elite.

The comically biased Regime newsletter the Washington Post demands that Biden prove he can beat Trump, and says that White House staff are "despondent" over the realization he can't.

The calls came as top union leaders, more lawmakers and even some campaign staff members expressed grave concerns about his candidacy.

Democratic leaders called on President Biden and his campaign Wednesday to provide convincing evidence of a viable path to victory amid a steady tide of bad battleground state polling and growing concerns that he cannot defeat former president Donald Trump in November.

The calls came as top union leaders expressed grave concerns about his candidacy, more members of Congress and other Democrats called on him to step aside, and even members of Biden's senior campaign staff began to exchange doubt about his prospects.

In a closed-door meeting Wednesday, some of the country's union leaders -- many of whom are strident backers of Biden -- said Americans' doubts about Biden's ability to do the job were damaging his candidacy and repeatedly asked Biden campaign officials for their plan to defeat Trump, according to two people familiar with their comments, who like others for this story spoke on the condition of anonymity to share private comments. Two of the most outspoken leaders were Sara Nelson, the president of the Association of Flight Attendants, and Shawn Fain, the president of the United Auto Workers, two of Biden's biggest labor allies.

In a statement later Wednesday, AFL-CIO leadership "unanimously voted to reaffirm its commitment" to Biden, saying, "No president has been more invested in helping workers than Joe Biden."

Senior campaign staff have started to take a more pessimistic view of Biden's chances, even as they continue to fan out in a full-court blitz to push the campaign forward and reassure allies of the president's potential to rebound.

"Overwhelmingly a majority of senior campaign staff are despondent and don't see a path," said a Democratic strategist familiar with the conversations, who like many others for this story requested anonymity to speak frankly about internal deliberations. A second person familiar with the discussions did not dispute the description.

Meanwhile, Democrats say the defections are likely to increase in coming days, with lawmakers and donors privately signaling that, by the end of the week, they may publicly call for Biden to drop out. They argue they do not want to embarrass Biden during the ongoing NATO summit in Washington while also giving him time to come to that conclusion on his own.

The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

Screwing up domestic policies by embracing an insane pseudo-philosophy is par for the course with the Democrat party. Spend money we don't have? Sure! Push the lunacy of transgenderism (including child mutilation)? Why not! Open the borders to every criminal on earth? Hell yes! Militarize federal law enforcement against political enemies? Duh! Create a seamless vote-stealing apparatus to maintain power? Dude!

And our country has muddled along since 1828 with this malign influence constantly eroding the intent of our founders. The Democrat party protected slavery...both the chattel flavor and the modern equivalent of keeping its pressure groups in financial and social bondage via its expansive welfare state and constant application of the charge of racism.

But we have managed by and large to keep that dirty laundry confined to our domestic political sphere. We tend to unify when foreign affairs come knocking. Sure, we have had idiots at the helm, and our foreign adventures are increasingly driven by grift and graft and nonsensical geopolitical considerations like "Nation Building!" But the defense of America tended to be the primary consideration.

Those days are gone. We have now trotted out the worst failures of our internal political complexities for the world to see. A nodding, drooling, incoherent octogenarian is now the face of America. And worse than that; it is abundantly clear that his junta's goals are not the defense of America and it citizens across the world. No, the overarching goal is a vacuous post-modern "All Countries Are Equal" nonsense, coupled with the original sin of being the richest and most successful country on earth.

That projects weakness, and the world has noticed.

Stone-age Houthis can now control a huge chunk of world trade because they are unafraid of America's might. 7th century savages can rape and murder and kidnap Americans, and our national response is cowardly -- evenhanded in the worst possible way. Our traditional adversaries on the world stage are chipping away at our spheres of influence without a care. Cuba...Venezuela...most of the Pacific...Europe...the Middle East...

And our response is to trot out the dessicated husk that sits atop the aimless and chaotic administrative state that supposedly guides our foreign policy for a politically motivated presser designed to reassure domestic adversaries.

The goal has so obviously changed that it is now unrecognizable. "A Big Boy Event?" What happened to dignity and firm application of American power and influence? What happened to the simple goal of protecting America's interests above all others?

The destruction of America's image and self-image began here, in the minds of our college students of the 1960s, and then in their students as they became professors and high school teachers. Their tentacles have entered every bit of the educational complex, and the explosion of college attendance (driven by the SCOTUS decision in Griggs v. Duke Power) has shifted America from a rational people who eventually lean on their innate good sense to a fragmented society in which a good chunk of that common sense has been destroyed by the idiocy of higher education.

Hopefully the trend away from college as the only path to success will accelerate, and the glut of baristas and part-time web designers will ease...replaced by HVAC techs and plumbers and steamfitters and heavy equipment operators.

You know...the people who are the repository of that famed American common sense!

One can only ponder the comingling of this DNA, figuratively if not literally. Meh, it's Romanoffs and Battenberg/saxe-Coburgs 2.0.
As Joey Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants' future as the Democrat standard-bearer circles the drain, will he suck those in his orbit as well as the Democrat Party in general down with him?

As I mused in yesterday's column, will the LIV crowd and perhaps reflexive-Democrat voters see Biden's decrepitude for what it represents: the criminality and complete moral vacuity of that entire party, as well as the media and cultural institutions that sustained it for not just the past almost four years but really for decades? Maybe that's too much to hope for. Deeply ingrained beliefs and worldviews are difficult to change, to say the least.

And yet, the dementia and soiled Depends don't necessarily penetrate the senses of the aforementioned more than a destroyed economy, erased borders, rampant crime and a world on the verge of all out war. Can Tina finally understand that Ike's fist in her face is not an expression of love.

No, I don't expect the Empire State to flip to Trump come November, regardless of who the Dems have running, and yet if it forces them to have to waste resources on some place that is or should be in the bag for them, all the better. And you have to wonder about other solidly Democrat states (NJ? CT?) as well. Of course, the cheat machine is their insurance policy. Still, as I continue to ponder, if their base and their election machinery are still solid, then why all the panic about Biden in the first place? Why go through this public sturm und drang, even with a wholly owned propaganda machine. I can't figure that out.

Is there trouble in workers paradise on earth? Regardless, we are in for a bumpy ride. Until and way beyond November.

  On an evening in December 2023, 43-year-old small business owner Sarah Rosenkranz collapsed in her home in Granbury, Texas and was rushed to the emergency room. Her heart pounded 200 beats per minute; her blood pressure spiked into hypertensive crisis; her skull throbbed. "It felt like my head was in a pressure vise being crushed," she says. "That pain was worse than childbirth."

  Sounds nasty, but what does that have to do with Bitcoin?

  Over the course of several months in 2024, TIME spoke to more than 40 people in the Granbury area who reported a medical ailment that they believe is connected to the arrival of the Bitcoin mine: hypertension, heart palpitations, chest pain, vertigo, tinnitus, migraines, panic attacks.

  Over several months, dozens of people had a variety of symptoms ranging from the purely physical to the neurological to the psychological. In a town of 11,000, and since they say "the Granbury area", let's note that the county is home to 60,000 people.

  "I'm sure it increases their cortisol and sugar levels, so you're getting headaches, vertigo, and it snowballs from there," Bhaloo says. "This thing is definitely causing a tremendous amount of stress. Everyone is just miserable about it."

  Jenna Hornbuckle, 38, lost hearing in her right ear and was diagnosed with heart failure; ear exams document her hearing loss along with that of her 8-year-old daughter Victoria, who contracted ear infections that forced doctors to place a tube in her ear.

  Bitcoin is bad in many ways. It does not cause heart failure or ear infections.

  As rock music blares from the speakers and other patrons chatter away, Rosenkranz pulls out her phone and clocks 72 decibels on a sound meter app-the same level that she records in Indigo's bedroom in the dead of night. In early 2023, her daughter began waking up, yelling and holding her ears. Indigo's room directly faces the mine, which sits about a mile and a half away.

  Okay, there's a tiny problem there.

  Shirley sticks his recorder out the window and the numbers on it flicker up and down as the roar washes over it. Eventually, the recorder caps out at 91 decibels, which the CDC estimates as roughly in between the output of a lawnmower and a chainsaw.

  91 decibels is pretty loud. Even on a still night, at a distance of a mile and a half, it would be barely louder than leaves rustling in the trees.
  
  To register 72 decibels at that distance, the Bitcoin "mine" would have to be as loud as a Shuttle launch, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Hail to the (Secret) Chief: Status-Obsessed Social Climber and Elder Abuser "Doctor" Jill Biden Demanded That Marine Corps Band Write a New Piece of Music to Introduce Her

This isn't new. T. Beckett Adams reported on this in 2022, after being tipped off.

Longtime veterans of the U.S. Marine Band have characterized the situation as a first, remarking that they've never been asked before to provide a first lady with her own entrance music.

Someone in the White House "had the bright idea, 'Oh, tell the band that we want music for Jill,'" a source said. "The band had to provide music."

"Fanfare for the First Lady" has been performed at official White House functions headlined by the first lady, played between her entrance and her address.

The band was "rushed" to come up with a theme for Jill Biden, a source said. The group submitted a few hurried options for the White House's consideration. Administration officials eventually settled on "Fanfare to the First Lady."

It has a whole new relevance now that we know Jill Biden is a scheming Lady Macbeth. I'm sorry, I mean a scheming Doctor Lady Macbeth.

Please do not sic your paid censors on me, George Soros. I regret the error.

Incidentally, the Marines and/or Doctor Lady Macbeth were embarrassed by Adams' article -- they retired the short-lived and very terrible fanfare after he published his article.

Update: April 13, 2022.

The United States Marine Band has retired "Fanfare for the First Lady," according to a source familiar with the decision. The band quietly shelved the song following the publication of this article.

Pew Research Survey: Republicans Are Now The Largest Political Party in America

Perhaps the most important poll you've never heard of came out today: the Pew NPORS study, a large mail survey with financial incentives and a 30% response rate. It's important enough that I had to open it when the email arrived.

Historically, Democrats have always had an edge on Republicans as far as party identification.

But a very large survey from Pew now shows Republicans with a +1 party identification edge.

Meanwhile, an Emmerson poll says that Trump beats every possible Democrat replacement candidate.

The poll, taken over the past two days, is a high-water mark for Trump showing him close to breaking the 50% mark in most matchups, although it is interesting to see that Biden and Harris do the best against Trump and are at equal support, although Trump actually does the best against Harris.

That actually says quite a bit about how unpopular Kamala Harris is. She is no more popular than a man widely acknowledged as a vegetable. Whitmer and Shapiro can at least claim that their name ID is low, explaining their worse numbers against Trump. If you think Biden is being humiliated in public by staying in the race, Kamala's humiliation is x2.

Obviously this is a good poll, and not just for the main reason. It's a great result not just because it predicts a Trump win, no matter who the opponent, but because it buttresses Biden's main argument for remaining in the race: I'm the best one to take on Trump. And even if he's not actually "the best" to take on Trump, no one can argue that they would beat Trump, either.

So why change horses midstream and etc.?

Unless some possible replacement candidate shows that he consistently polls ahead of Trump, Biden will dig in his heels, justifiably, and say "No one is beating Trump right now, all of us would need a break or October Surprise to beat him, so why shouldn't I be the candidate waiting for that October Surprise instead of Gretchen Whitmer?"

On the other hand, the polls are becoming increasingly bleak for Biden. The Cook Political Report just shifted six states to the GOP's column.

The states affected by this shift--Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Nevada--are crucial battlegrounds that could determine the next occupant of the White House. Each of these states showed a marked movement towards the Republican Party, attributed largely to Biden's perceived debate disaster.

In the aftermath of the debate, voters in these states have expressed growing concerns over Biden's ability to effectively lead, further amplified by ongoing issues such as economic instability and rising crime rates. These factors, combined with a lackluster debate performance, have contributed to a waning confidence in Biden among swing voters and independents.

The electoral implications of this shift are significant. For Republicans, gaining traction in these states could pave the way for a stronger path to victory in the 2024 election. Conversely, for Democrats, the shift underscores the urgent need to address the concerns of voters and reassess campaign strategies to regain lost ground.

New York state has become competitive -- a real horrorshow for the Democrats. Biden won New York in 2020 by twenty-two points, 56% to Trump's 34%.

And now? Biden leads by an average of 7.5%.

That's still a pretty solid lead for Biden, but that is a lead that could be overcome, particularly if Biden continues losing support generally, and if Democrat voters then become discouraged and vote at a lower propensity.

President Joe Biden is witnessing a notable decline in support from New York voters, traditionally a reliable Democratic base. According to recent polls, Biden's approval ratings have taken a sharp downturn, raising concerns among Democratic strategists about the state's political future.

Key among the factors contributing to this shift is growing dissatisfaction among both Democratic and Independent voters. Issues such as inflation, crime rates, and economic policies have led to increasing criticism of Biden's administration. This changing sentiment suggests that New York, once considered a safe haven for Democrats, may now emerge as a critical battleground state in the upcoming 2024 election.

"We're still acting like this is a one-party state, which for pretty much 20, 25 years it has been," Democratic Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine said. "I truly believe we're a battleground state now."

Trump will make a big play for New York both to depress Democrat turnout in other states -- if New York is in play, then the election is over, and you might as well not vote, and you might as well not cast fraudulent votes either -- and also because it would really please his ego to win his home state.

John Stewart Graphs Biden's Cognitive Decline

He notes just three of Biden's previous shows of dementia.

But he does make the point.

On Monday's broadcast of Comedy Central's "Daily Show," host Jon Stewart stated that the dismissal of concerns about President Joe Biden's age "also erodes confidence and faith in the system of government. Get on board or shut the [bleep] up...is not a particularly compelling pro-democracy bumper sticker," and stated that Biden's campaign has been massively dishonest with its spin about the debate.

Stewart began by saying, "I thought I would take a moment to explain where the concern about Biden's performance might be coming from, and why these concerns may be seen as a more foundational issue. You see, even before the debate, there had been some troubling moments of disconnect from the President."

I have it cued up to the funny part. You can stop watching when he starts talking about Trump.

Although he does answer liberal spinners who ask, rhetorically, "Why doesn't anyone call out Trump?"

He says something like, "Yes, why doesn't any one ever call out Trump, like every single night for the last ten years"?

In other words: Yes, we attack Trump constantly. But now is the time to give Biden some actual evaluation.

He then goes back to talking about Biden's "cognitive difficulties."

Who's Really Making Decisions for the White House?

Via Matt Vespa, Semafor has an article up about a source inside the White House. This source demands complete anonymity, but allows the reporter to say if he's (or she's) a serious person or not. The reporter claims he (or she) is a serous person.

The claim is that all domestic policy decisions at the White House are being made by Biden's Inner Circle -- without Biden's input.

Here is the assertion this person would like to get across: It's unclear even to some inside the West Wing policy process which policy issues reach the president, and how. Major decisions go into an opaque circle that includes White House chief of staff, Jeff Zients (who talks to the president regularly) and return concluded. (The big exception to this pattern, they said, is foreign policy.)

Biden has been, as many have noted, wrong on every single major foreign policy question of the 20th and now the 21st century, still believes he's got a really good head for geopolitics.

This is the strongest proof that he's demented.

This pattern had already been a topic of discussion, and curiosity, among the high-powered aides who work in and around the White House. The rituals of paperflow are technical, but they say they're surprised by the lack of briefings to the president, and of readouts from consultations with the president and worry about the possibility of decisions "being made without him."

My source has no reputation for being involved in factional fights on hot button issues, and no obvious ulterior motive for picking up the phone.

"I'm super proud of the policies," the person said. "I'm talking to you because I'm incredibly upset and scared for the country and I would like to do what I can."

As many are saying: Biden can't just withdraw from the race. If he's too demented to run for president, he's also too demented to continue acting as president.

This is another big complication for Puerto Rican Joe -- he really can't just withdraw from the race. He has to face the reality that if he withdraws from the race, he must also become the first president in history to resign from the presidency due to his dementia and the cover-up of it.

Biden's staffers are all on the hook for the cover-up, of course. No wonder they're determined to keep him in the race. What happens to them after Biden admits yes, I'm incapable of being president? He'll essentially be implicating them in a coup, as they were unconstitutionally running the country.

Tough situation for the party that wants to Save Muh Precious Democracy.

Trump Broke the Media, Chapter 63,528

Right-wingers are fully aware of what non-right-wing media outlets say. Libs often have absolutely no idea what goes on in right-wing media, they have no understanding of what right-wingers actually think. This is part of why it's so shocking to them now that anyone would question Biden's competence. They haven't seen a million videos of Biden mumbling and trailing off and lumbering around and looking lost, they didn't know that he gets fed questions in advance. Two weeks ago, libs would've called it all fake news and cheapfakes, but right-wingers have known this stuff for years. Despite positioning themselves as the educated ones in the room, libs so often have absolutely horrendous media literacy.

This is also why every two months, you get "we're canceling our New York Times subscriptions" freakouts - and we're seeing this happen to journos and news outlets on a nuclear scale right now - because anything uncomfortable is seen as traitorous and must be immediately rejected. They're not used to bad news (the type of bad news that makes them feel bad about themselves instead of the other guy being bad) and they have no idea how to navigate that.

Matt Taibbi has been talking about this recently.

He points out that the media has changed its "commercial business model." Previously, he says (a bit naively) that the corporate media attempted to inform a broad audience.

Under Trump, the media became more overtly biased, of course. He says that's because Trump was a huge draw commercially, even for -- especially for -- leftwing news outlets. They knew that when they ran segments about Trump, their ratings went up. When they posted about Trump, their clicks went up.

So under no circumstances would they stop making their channels and papers Trump News 24/7. This would benefit Trump, of course -- if they reported on him neutrally.

So the new business model they chose would be to continue filling their airwaves and newspapers with almost nothing but Trump, but they would appease their audiences, and their own consciences, by making it unrelentingly negative and biased coverage.

Further, they noticed that whenever they surprised their almost-entirely leftwing audiences with a story that did not support the preferred leftwing narratives, they would lose "market share." The leftwing audience they cultivated would simply turn them off if they ever ran a story noting that crime was rising, or inflation was rising, or that there might be some problems with open borders.

So they simply excised such stories from their channels and newspapers, almost completely. Instead of broadcasting to a, well, broad audience, they instead used market research principles: Their actual market was uniformly leftwing and preferred the hardcore Democrat bubble.

So they adapted their business model to stop chasing or serving any other audience except their current hard-left partisan audience, and reported only stories that flattered the prejudices of that audience. Republicans were always bad, Trump was always a Nazi-in-waiting, crime has never been lower, and there is no illegal alien crisis, and if there is a crisis, it's only because Republicans won't pass amnesty plans.

I mean, that is true, mostly. But it's not like this just began in 2015. It certainly intensified in 2015, but the corporate Marxist media has always done this, just less brazenly, just less overtly.

As we often say: 2015 was merely they year that they pulled off the fig leaf of impartiality and hung the full dong of crazed partisan advocacy "journalism."

Biden Loses Lifelong Democrat Propagandists George Stephanopolous and George Clooney

Nick Arama notes that Clooney just threw Biden a fundraiser a few weeks ago.

Now he's throwing him under the bus.

You may recall the story of how Joe Biden blew off a peace summit about Ukraine to rush back from the G7 to attend a Hollywood fundraiser hosted in part by actor George Clooney.

That was the fundraiser that created a huge controversy. Barack Obama took Biden by the hand to lead him off the stage and the media tried to call video of the event a "cheap fake," despite the fact those were the facts. It's just they didn't like to hear it at this point.

Now, however, the boot suppressing the facts seems to have been lifted. Not only that, we now have a bit of a stunning op-ed from George Clooney, saying Democrats need a new nominee, not Biden.

Clooney writes in an op-ed:

I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. As a tender but fierce lover.

Whoops, I accidentally wrote that last sentence.

I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he's won many of the battles he's faced.

But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can. It's devastating to say it, but the Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe "big F-ing deal" Biden of 2010. He wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.

Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn't see what we just saw. We're all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we've opted to ignore every warning sign. The George Stephanopoulos interview only reinforced what we saw the week before. As Democrats, we collectively hold our breath or turn down the volume whenever we see the president, who we respect, walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question.

I call upon my good friend Alec Baldwin to hire Joe Biden as the cinematographer for his movie Dust.

Trump to Biden: I'd Like to Take You Up on Your Golf Challenge

You of course remember Biden challenging Trump to a golf game not once but twice. He had already challenged Trump before the debate, and then, during the debate, challenged him again. Biden laid a special challenge: Trump would have to carry his own bag.

Will Biden be carrying his own bag? Absurd.

Anyway, Trump has accepted the challenge, and furthermore is giving Biden a twenty stroke lead as a handicap. He declares that if Football Hero Joe beats him, he'll donate $1 million to any charity Biden names.

The Death of Expertise

No, not the variety that credential worshiping lickspittles like Tom Nichols have lamented, but the real thing. Perhaps his book would have been more accurately titled "The Waning of the Expert Class." The attitude toward - and effect of - public "experts" has shifted markedly since the publication of that book in 2017, which occurred somewhere near the midpoint of the shift. Nichols lamented the apparent distrust and rejection of "expertise" but that's not what he meant. He meant that he was distressed by the distrust and rejection of self-anointed "experts" by the normals.

But why would the normals not? How much patience and credulity do the "experts" expect when they continuously fail? Contemporary public "experts" serve the same purpose that prior generations' public "intellectuals" served. They lie to reinforce the ideological narrative and rest on the same basic argument as always: "listen to me, because I'm smarter than you." Yet, all too often, it turns out that they weren't. They, like their "intellectual" predecessors, are often just cunning liars.

Oedipus and the Sphynx

The Sphinx, weaving her words in darkling measures, I fled not; I faced the bloody jaws of the fell prophetess and the ground white with scattered bones. And when from a lofty cliff, already hovering over her prey, she prepared her pinions and, lashing her tail like a savage lion, stirred up her threatening wrath, I asked her riddle.

For the most part, the story of Oedipus is tragic. He was abandoned by his father, the King of Thebes, because of a prophecy that his son would kill him. The boy is raised by poor farmers but leaves them because of a prophecy that he would kill his father and marry his mother. He soon meets his real father unknowingly but kills him after an argument. Oedipus then marries his real mother who later kills herself after finding out the truth. In some versions of the story, Oedipus then blinds himself and goes into a self-imposed exile to atone for his crimes. Tucked away in this sad tale is the story of the Riddle of the Sphinx.

The city of Thebes was haunted by a sphinx that challenged passers-by to solve its riddle. If they couldn’t, it killed them. When Oedipus succeeded, the monster killed itself. He became an instant hero and was given the now-vacant throne of Thebes and married the recently widowed queen – his mother. The story of the Riddle presents Oedipus as fearless, intelligent, and clever, important aspects for any classical hero. In this painting, Ingres presents an ideal male specimen, classically perfect in every way.

Oedipus dominates the painting, positioned front and center, framed by the dark cliffs. This provides contrast to his light skin tone and makes me focus on him more. He is fully nude. The bright sunlight adds more highlights to his idealized form. His muscles are tense as he bends over and concentrates on the riddle. He crouches over with a foot raised on a boulder and an elbow resting on his knee. He locks his gaze on the sphinx in the shadows and gestures as he explains the riddle’s solution. In my opinion, Oedipus’s entire body language communicates intelligence and youthful confidence. He looks the monster in the eye and meets its challenge head-on.

The Sphinx is the complete opposite. It hides in a crag in the shadows. According to the story, this beast can kill and devour a grown man, but in Ingres’ interpretation, it is small, about half the size of Oedipus. Ingres shoves it into the corner of the painting. Only its talons and breasts are highlighted. Enlarge the painting and look at its eyes. It looks stunned to me. Its foot is raised in shock and maybe fear.

To me, it seems like Ingres stripped this monster of its power. He robbed it of its terrifying legend and reduced it symbolically and literally. At the same time, he is emphasizing the beautiful male form. Oedipus embodies many of the classical ideals, from intelligence, to courage, to youthful drive, to physical perfection. These are the traits that destroy monsters.
