Music Thread: Shut Up And Sing!

I don't think even Garrett would wear those!

In my youth I really enjoyed Cat Stevens, and even today I hear his music and remember simpler times when all I and my friends had to worry about was making enough money to afford a pizza from one of the the two joints in town. Yup, both were good, although one specialized in Sicilian style, so we could mix it up and have the best of both worlds! Longer Boats is one of my favorites...sort of weird, but with his signature sound. (Don't worry, that's not a link that will make him any money)

But not any more. And that makes me yearn for a time in which art and music and movies weren't entwined with politics, with the angry, screeching opinions of everyone with a guitar or skill at regurgitating lines in a script, and who think that their celebrity gives them license to double as a political pundit.

The stupidity of most "artists" is well documented by their own words. Perhaps their skills at mimicry and singing and playing an instrument come at the expense of higher-order thinking. And certainly the industries in which they work are subsumed in leftist orthodoxy.

But there is a difference between the casual ignorance of some B-list singer jabbering about a ceasefire in Gaza or defunding the police (but my private security will keep their guns!) or how Trump will force pregnant women into birthing camps, and the virulent anti-Western, anti-Semitic words and deeds of Cat Stevens. Nope...I won't use his new name. Why should I? He has no respect for me...why would I respect him?

From his support for the murder of Salman Rushdie for the sin of writing a book (a rare misstep), to his ongoing support of "Palestine," and of course a ceasefire in Gaza that would allow Hamas to recover and continue their Islamic-based murder and destruction of Jews and Israel...Cat Stevens has (mostly) carefully threaded the needle and presented a peaceful, hippie-like public persona, but his deeds are solidly in the pro-Islam, anti-Israel camp. He makes a lot of money from detached boomers who love his music and buy his whitewashing of his true beliefs.

But not from me. When one of his songs comes up on my algorithmic music feed I skip it, and I don't have his music on my lists. Short of cancelling my Spotify account there isn't much else I can do. I guess I can smash my CDs, but that is a sunk cost and won't hurt him at all.

Mostly I'm pissed off that nothing is off limits. Everything is political. Yes, Breitbart was correct, "politics is downstream from culture," but sometimes I just want to listen to music or watch a movie and not be punched in the nose by somebody else's politics.

Fair season isn't until May for the casual participant but for us competitors, it starts now. Registration for the culinary arts competition is this week; actual entries due March 2.

I don't like to brag but I have had success in the last few years with pickles, jerky and apple butter with best of class and best of division awards for each at the Los Angeles County Fair. I don't like to repeat what I have already done so this year I will submit peach jelly and applesauce. I suspect the jelly competition will be tough; lots of people enter that one.

I see something that looks delicious there.

The Week In Woke, Part II

Violent leftists assaulted Missouri's GOP election's chief but of course the leftwing Enemy of the People media is covering it up.

Corporate media regularly run dishonest articles hyping concerns about the safety of election officials throughout the country. So, why haven't they reported on Missouri's leading election official getting accosted by leftist agitators last week?

The incident in question occurred on Feb. 6, when Republican Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft was attempting to enter a venue hosted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee....

According to KOMU, a local NBC affiliate, anti-Israel demonstrators were already in the area and blocking traffic prior to Ashcroft's arrival...

"There's a lot of yelling and screaming but as I was just walking along the sidewalk, it was fine until I turned left to actually head into the doorway," Ashcroft told The Federalist. "That's when they ... collapsed around me and [started] shoving me and pushing me."

Despite being jostled, Ashcroft kept attempting to enter the facility. As he was reaching for the doorhandle, Ashcroft said one agitator -- who video footage appears to show grabbed the secretary -- told him he was going to "throw me to the ground."

"I just didn't think it was good to go to the ground in this mass of Hamas supporters, so I threw him over my hip and that's when the police came in and arrested him," Ashcroft said.

Trans activists also staged an insurrection at the Iowa state house to block the people's delegates from passing laws.

As you heard from the guy with the colored hair, "We shut it down today, but they're going to try to bring this back when we're not looking." That's a reference to a bill that would have classified gender dysphoria as a disability. The Iowa House rejected that legislation after the mob showed up and occupied the statehouse, which is apparently acceptable when trans activists do it. But as the walking anime character predicted, there would indeed be more legislation coming that these activists wouldn't like. And in response, they once again occupied the capitol.

This latest bill that we're told will inevitably lead to the genocide of trans activists is actually pretty straightforward. For one thing, it would provide a clear definition for "man" and "woman." Specifically, the bill would define a "female" as "a person whose biological reproductive system is developed to produce ova." And it would define "male" as someone "whose biological reproductive system is developed to fertilize the ova of a female."

You know else who tried to define a "man" as "someone whose reproductive system is designed to fertilize ova," and a "woman" as "someone whose reproductive system is designed to produce ova"? That's right, a chap with a short mustache. I seem to remember he became quite the demagogue and whipped up the public's emotions until the conditions were right for the...

Of Course: Soviet Judge Demands Trump Pay $355 Million for the Non-Crime of Not Defrauding Anybody

Literally everyone up-estimates the value of their holdings when applying for a loan.

New York State just decided this is illegal, and in fact a crime worth a $355 million penalty.

Just kidding -- this rule will not be applied to anyone else. This is yet another Trump Only Law.

A New York judge ordered Donald Trump and his companies on Friday to pay $355 million, finding they engaged in a yearslong scheme to dupe banks and others with financial statements that inflated his wealth.

Trump won't have to pay out the money immediately as an appeals process plays out, but the verdict still is a stunning setback for the former president.

If he's ultimately forced to pay, the magnitude of the penalty, on top of earlier judgments, could dramatically diminish his financial resources. And it undermines the image of a successful businessman that he's carefully tailored to power his unlikely rise from a reality television star to a onetime -- and perhaps future -- president.

Which was the whole point, of course.

Film Threat: To Achieve 50/50 "Equity," DEIsney Knew They Had to "Drive Out the Old White Guys." So They Embarked on a Strategy of "First, Exasperate, and Then Attack" the Old White Guys Until They Quit

This is how the DEI sausage gets made.

In the last D-Files, I showed how outside sinister forces got their foot in the door at Walt Disney Animation, beginning with Raya and the Last Dragon and under the banner of #MeToo and gender equity. Rather than naturally developing female and minority talent, Disney, under the leadership of Jennifer Lee, chose to force 50/50 equity at the studio, like Mickey Mouse cleaning up the Yensid's laboratory in Fantasia.

The result of Lee's "wish" may have destroyed the animation industry in America in one fell swoop. The unintended (or some would say intended) consequences of her actions were the creation of a toxic work environment where everyone is walking on eggshells and intent on shoving out veteran talent and ushering in an army of activists dead set on transforming the company in a way that Walt Disney himself would not recognize.

Because there simply were not many women, minorities, or Women of Color in animation, or even in animation school, DEIsney just started sliding into WOC's DMs on social media and hiring them.

(This is now common, by the way.)

Instead of hiring formerly trained artists from traditional institutions like Cal-Arts, Disney (with the help of Women in Animation) explicitly recruited from social media sites, including Tumblr and Reddit--a fact confirmed by numerous sources.

To be clear, Tumblr was not inherently problematic. Most of my contacts used Tumblr to host their portfolios and included links to the site on their CV. What mattered was that your social media profile checked the right boxes (i.e., "female" and "not White"). Today, that box has revised to "female-presenting."

Actually, Tumblr is very problematic. Tumblr was the Petri dish for growing this repulsive leftwing SJW toxic mold.

Tumblr is/was the Ground Zero for everything bizarre, weird, and toxic going on in social media and the media generally today. It was a training filed for zealous, mentally-ill Marxist revolutionaries.

So don't be a cuck, Film Threat.

One source said as long as gender quotients in hiring were being met, "it didn't matter what your experience was, as long as your 'stuff looked good' you can work for Disney Animation...and any animation studios--Paramount, Dreamworks, Netflix, Warner Bros, etc."

Another source noted that Tumblr was "UNEQUIVOCALLY" the base for new talent.

Women from the social media site were quickly scooped up and placed on Raya and the Last Dragon, along with other animated shows and features. Talent was always an afterthought. It was more important that these women could pad the quotas and become useful foot soldiers for the cause of DEI. Once in, the activists were asked for referrals, and now they were in a position to hire other artists from their "friend squads." They were now hiring based seemingly on their politics; these "friend squads" quickly created a powerful contingent not just at Disney.

It is well-known in the art community Tumblr has a bad reputation. In fact, "Tumblr cartoons" is a term for awful animation featuring bad design and uninspired storytelling. One source told me, "Tumblr was Ground Zero for this mess we're in. Along with a sub-part portfolio, these artists had not yet completed their 'ten thousand hours,' and they brought bad art habits with them into the big animation studios." Some artists also find Tumblr cartoons too preachy or heavy-handed, sacrificing subtlety and nuance to align with "The Message."

Tumblr "artists" got scooped up by Marvel and DC. These two woke basketcases hired anti-talent after anti-talent off Tumblr, based on nothing but race, sex, and status as a trans person.

And you can see what happened to Marvel and DC. Both are on the glidepath to bankruptcy.

Social media isn't exactly the breeding ground for building a healthy community and interpersonal interactions. Tumblr communities foster an echo chamber effect where certain ideas or ideologies are reinforced without much critical discussion or diversity of thought. Relevant here is a new form of woke storytelling where villains are no longer needed, or female protagonists don't need no man to save them. Can someone remind me what the definition of "incel" is? Tumblr became the perfect breeding ground for activists perfect for Disney's new "reimagined" storytelling.

These recruits had a very specific personality. In them, Disney found their value as influencers, not artists. As one source puts it, "[Disney] was more than ready to hire influencers than a more reserved person with actual talent. Influencers have the potential to bring in their fan base to 'replace' whatever old fan base was there before. Unfortunately, Disney gave these influencers too much credit to do exactly that." In other words, Disney overestimated their artistic talent and underestimated their ability to attract an audience.

But of course, you can't hire an army of anti-talented, zero training, zero experience WOCs and trannies off Tumbler without clearing out the... Old Deplorables.

When these recruits started doing their highly coveted jobs, they struggled to succeed at a job they weren't qualified to have in the first place. Attempts to offer help or mentoring from the "Old White Guys" were met with an undeniable cold shoulder. One veteran animator described the new hires as having "open disdain for the 'Old White Guys.'" Comments veterans made during creative meetings were met with snarky replies by the youngsters. The goal was to make life so miserable that they'd quit or be forced to fall in line with the new normal. If that didn't work, something worse was waiting in the wings.

House Learns of Bank Account Used to Funnel Money to Joe Biden

Hmmm...

"In one of the interviews -- that we haven't, I don't believe, disclosed the transcript yet -- the witness made reference to an account we didn't know about. We're researching that account," Comer said in an interview on "Just the News, No Noise." "They also said that that account could have possibly been paid with some infusion from the grandchildren."

Comer pointed out that, if true, it would be highly usual.

"Now, I don't know about you. But I don't know anyone in the world whose grandchildren have ever deposited money into a savings account for their elderly grandfather," Comer said. "But now, maybe I'm wrong. But that's something we're certainly looking into."

Comer wouldn't disclose the identity of the informant supplying his committee with these juicy new details. However, a reliable congressional source collaborating with Democrats revealed that the information came from a longtime business associate of Hunter Biden who also occasionally accessed Joe Biden's financial accounts.

I can't think of the name, but doesn't that describe, exactly, the financial advisor (or was he an accountant?) who would service both Joe an Hunter Biden...? I know he's talked to Congress. Not Devon Archer, not Rob Walker...

Did Fani Willis Admit to Campaign Finance Abuses?

Yesterday, Fani Willis perjured herself absurdly, claiming she paid Sweetdick back for all the taxpayer money he spent on her for flights, cruises, and hotel rooms.

When asked if she could produce any bank withdrawal records showing she'd taken out money to pay him back, she began spamming out a series of perjurious claims to explain why no such records exist:

1, her Black Panther father told her that every woman should have a half a year's worth of cash stowed around the house.

2, she would overpay at Publix and other markets and get $40 or $60 cash back. Apparently, she wants us to believe that she shops so frequently that she can rapidly accumulate the $2500 needed to pay Sweetdick back for one trip just by taking out a 20-spot here or there at Walgreen's or The Dollar Store.

3, and this is the headline story, she breezily admitted that she'd simply taken money she raised for her political campaign and simply converted it into her own private slushfund and Sex Stash.

The Armorer On the Rust Set Says That All During His Firearms Safety Training, Alec Baldwin Was Texting and FaceTiming with Other People

I always said that Alec Baldwin's twitter addiction would get him.

Well I didn't say that but it seems obvious in retrospect. I mean, I should have said it.

We all should have.

Rust film armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed testified that Alec Baldwin spent time texting, FaceTiming, and having his assistant shoot video of him with the gun for Instagram during firearms training, RadarOnline.com has learned.

On October 21, 2021, Baldwin fired a prop gun that shot and killed the film's director of photography Halyna Hutchins.

"She was my friend! My wife and I had dinner with what's-her-name! My wife ordered pupusas and pollo con arroz! Even though we were at Outback Steakhouse! It's just what she does, I can't stop her!"

Gutierrez-Reed held a training session for the dozen or so actors whose roles called for them to handle guns, but Baldwin was unable to attend.

"I was very impressed by the training session," Halls testified to the OSHB. "She made sure that all those actors were holding the gun properly, pulling it out of their holster. They all shot blanks."

The armorer claimed that she held a private training session for Baldwin at the church....

The armorer said that Baldwin spent much of the planned session on his phone texting, FaceTiming his wife and children, and having his assistant shoot video of him for his social media.

Oh, of course. Selfies before safety (TM)!

After the session, Gutierrez-Reed said she requested the producers grant her more training time, "Particularly with Alec, just because his role is so gun-heavy, and I wanted to make sure he was familiar with his weapon."

Gutierrez-Reed testified, "I told them that he needed more time to practice his cross draw because I didn't want him to have complications with it on filming day."

The article doesn't say if Baldwin agreed to that additional time. Based on context, I'd think he didn't agree, but I'm not sure.
