The Morning Report — 7/15/24

kimcheatle.jpg

Good Morning Kids. While what happened to Donald Trump on Saturday is revolting in the extreme, like everything else he and we have been through especially these past three years, is what happened really all that surprising?

And in surviving another Democrat/Leftist/anarchist assassination attempt to add to the list that goes back to Abraham Lincoln, because Trump dared raise his fist in defiance even as the blood ran down his cheek, the Democrat left that have bayed for Trump's blood since he came down the golden escalator at TrumpTower 9 years ago are now engaged in the typical blaming of the rape victim for dressing provocatively.

The Democrat Left has now gone full Muslim. In blaming Trump for the assassination attempt and for the gall of not only surviving it but defiantly so, As Sharia Law dictates the victim of rape is the criminal, not the rapist. Ditto Donald Trump.

Lest we forget that production of Julius Caesar in Central Park where the aforementioned lead character was presented as Donald Trump, or talentless dishrag Kathy Griffen olding up a prop of Trump's bloody severed head on national television.

Nearly 9 years of sliming him as literally Hitler, and those of us who support him, or to be more precise, who oppose them, as being Nazis and white supremacists hell bent on destroying "our precious democracy."

Second gunman in the bleachers? Crooks got his head vaporized and yet we still don't know by whom.

There are all kinds of questions that point to either the competence or lack thereof of the Secret Service, as well as local law enforcement. Of course, given what we now know of the completely politicized nature of our national law enforcement and intelligence agencies and their documented palace coup against Donald Trump that started in 2016 at the behest of Hilary Clinton and extending well into Trump's term of office including the infamous letter signed by 51 of America's top spooks calling the Hunter Biden laptop Russian propaganda. And on and on and on. Is it a stretch to think that this was an FBI/CIA plot? They helped steal an election, did their best to politically sabotage and remove Trump from the moment he came down the golden Trump tower escalator 9 years ago.

We have innocent people rotting in jail over a supposed insurrection that was a false flag op involving DOJ, Capitol PD stooges who attempted to foment unrest after having the doors opened for them and escorted inside the Capitol. We also have the army declaring pro-life groups as domestic terrorists.

And this is just one example of the Leftists using their positions in the bureaucracy and elective office to persecute political enemies.

The reactions by the institutional left in and out of government are beyond despicable. But at least they're honest. Not the ones who blame victims, but the ones who are crestfallen that the assassin failed.

Friend and friend of the blog Michael walsh has had the Left's number for a very long time, and yet again he nails it:

Since the day the first Democrat vice-president (and co-founder of Tammany Hall), Aaron Burr, killed one of the Founding Fathers, they've always been this way. Consider: between 1865 and 1901, three presidents were assassinated, all Republicans. Three of the first six elected GOP presidents were murdered, by Southern sympathizers, anarchist leftists, and sexual weirdos. JFK, the lone Dem, was shot and killed by a Communist. In addition, there were attempts on the life of Teddy Roosevelt (shot), Ronald Reagan (shot), and Gerald Ford (shot at twice). Within just the past few years, senator Rand Paul was violently assaulted, congressman Steve Scalise was shot by a Trump-hating Bernie Bro, and a Leftist psycho traveled across the country to try and assassinate Justice Brett Kavanaugh. They never stop, they never sleep, they never quit.

To this day, Bernie Sanders and Dick Durbin have yet to answer for what they know and how they knew James Hodgkinson. Given the state of play, they likely will never have to answer for their involvement with the would be mass assassin who nearly mowed down a slew of GOP congressmen on a softball field.

Meh, as we all should know the sage words of Ace himself by now, our speech is violence and their violence is speech.

When that calculus changes, perhaps America as it was or as we had envisioned it might have a shot at revival. And no that is not me telling you to go out and shoot up Democrats. Of course, the usual trolls and others will try and twist it as such. And that is supposed to keep me from writing it, let alone thinking it. That is how they play that game.

Basta cosi.

  • To avoid sea level rise, some researchers want to put barriers around the world's most vulnerable glaciers to slow them down. (Science)

    Uh.

    What?

In 2008, the Ilulissat Glacier in Greenland had a calving event in which it shed a single iceberg covering three square miles. It sheds 35 billion tons of icebergs in the average year.

And moving glaciers don't leave much of anything in their wake, except rubble.

I mean... Okay, it's not impossible. If you want to build an anti-glacier barrier, go right ahead. Yes, I'll make popcorn, but if you succeed I'll gladly give you credit.

Update: CBD points out in comment #17 that that part of the plan isn't to stop the glaciers moving but to block warm currents that would melt them more quickly. And the part about drilling holes in the ice is to pump out water so they move more slowly. Paragraph five explains it better than the first four.

Food Thread: Size Matters

It's actually important, even though many people (including me sometimes) just sort of chop stuff without paying much attention to what the recipe may say. And luckily most recipe writers are not fixated on the difference between a mince and a fine chop and a coarse chop and a slice and...

But some ingredients really are different depending on their size, and onions are a great example! A fine mince will allow the onions almost to melt into the sauce or gravy or whatever, while a rough chop allows more texture and a more robust flavor.

mincedred.jpg

Sure, it might not matter all that much on a hectic Wednesday night when all you really want is some fuel for yourself and something to plop down for the kids because when they get hangry, the house is a very unpleasant place to be.

stewmeat.png

But think about something like stew...specifically, your favorite recipe handed down from your grandmother. It's a labor of love, and you carefully cut the meat into uniform pieces exactly 1.5"x1.5"x1.5" because that's what she did!

How weird would it be if you made it with finely chopped meat? It might even taste good (it probably will), but it will be a far cry from what you remember, and what you want.

Stainless Steel my ass!

Well, I guess in China, "stainless steel" is a bit different than our domestic stuff.

Okay...the jar is used to store pickled onions, and that is an acidic environment. But still...do I really have to move to Pittsburgh or the Ruhr or Yoshida?

I like my house!

BrylCreem Newsom And AB 1955...The Final Nail In The Coffin Of California Freedom

AB 1955 is a sop to Transgender Inc, the Medical/Industrial complex of California, and the teachers' unions.

The trannies get what they want because this will remove children almost completely from the control of their parents, and hand that control to a cabal of blue-haired, multi-cat female lunatics who seem to dominate in teaching. All the budding Dr. Mengeles will be able to experiment on a new crop of children while making bank. And the teachers get more of that thrill when they do less work and more proselytizing for their pet psychotic political and social goals...in this case the destruction of the family and probably a fair amount of grooming, because a lot of these chicks can't get real men to bang them, so they go after their students.

Oh...what's AB 1955? It is a bald-faced theft of California's children from their parents!

The bill, Assembly Bill 1955 -- also known as the SAFETY Act -- prohibits public schools from notifying parents if their child requests to use pronouns that conflict with the child's sex or a name that differs from the name the child was given at birth. Students may also elect to use the bathrooms of the opposite sex and the school will not be obligated to tell parents.

Which of course is the first step in the sordid pathway from sort-of-confused 12-year-old (and which ones aren't?) to horribly mutilated adult with volcanic anger issues, a nonexistent sex life, and most likely a hard-wired inability to form normal and meaningful relationships.

Sadly, there is no statement in opposition, and there is no official opposition listed. That means...and I know this will shock you...that the California Republican party is a pathetic waste of oxygen and should probably just give up now, because they are useless.

AB 1955

It's a mass of government double-speak that is no doubt designed for the big payoff to...everyone who is invested in the destruction of traditional, successful, amazing western culture. You know...the Democrat party!

But this is putting retard Gavin Newsom in a bit of a pickle. If he signs the bill -- and you know he wants to -- then he can be linked to the lunatic fringe mainstream of the California wing of the Democrat party. If he doesn't sign it, then he will be branded a horrid MAGA fascist rapist Christian Republican white Supremacist (did I get them all?).

Newsom Won't Say If He'll Sign Bill Forcing Schools To Hide Kids' Dysphoria From Parents

Go long on popcorn futures.

  • Meet the soft robots that can amputate limbs and fuse with other robots. (Tech Crunch)

I for one welcome our Mengelean Borg overlords.
In one demo video, we see a soft quadruped robot crawling along when a falling rock traps a back leg. The reversible joint attaching the leg is heated with current, allowing the robot to break free of its leg and escape. Although it's not shown in the video, the limb can be re-attached, as well.
Oh. They can amputate their own limbs. That's still slightly horrifying, but much less so.

Kind of like a lizard that drops its tail, uses it as a club to beat a frog to death, and then reattaches the tail and eats the frog.

Biden Won't Say Trump Was the Victim of an Assassination Attempt, Uses Opportunity to Plug His Campaign

trunpstatement.jpg

trunpshootingbidenstatement.jpg

There'll be no headlines like "Democrats seize on attempted murder of their rival to push more gun control." I mean, that'll happen. Biden will make that the main point of his statement.

But the media will not say "Democrats seize."

Sean Davis says that Biden is short-shrifting Trump's security detail.

Sean Davis
@seanmdav

BREAKING: A source familiar with Trump's security detail tells @FDRLST
that the former and future president's detail has been asking for beefed up protection and resources for weeks, but has been rebuffed time and again by Biden's DHS.

DHS, which oversees Secret Service protective detail "wasn't responsive to those requests" for more resources, the source said.

Was Biden's regime behind the attack, or did it deliberately do everything it could to allow it to happen?

Developing...

From a friend: "ABC 'News' is literally doing 'Republicans Pounce.'"

By the way, I know there are reports that witnesses saw an armed man climb to a roof and that the Secret Service did nothing about it. I'm not posting that because it's possible that that man was an undercover Secret Service sniper. I keep seeing a body being dragged out of the crowd. That might have just been the civilian victim, but I'm still thinking the shooter was in the crowd. I'll post about it if it turns out the shooter was on the roof, of course.

This guy does seem to know what he's talking about, though.

And it looks like the shooter was in fact on the roof that guy is talking about.

So my skepticism was unfounded; it looks like the shooter was on the roof, and was spotted by a lot of people. Just not the Secret Service.

We're going to need investigations and a lot of resignations.

Starting with Mayorkas.

Below: Biden refuses to go out on a limb and say that Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt.

TRUMP SHOT

The leftwing media and the demonic Democrat Regime finally instilled enough fear and hatred into one of their maniacs to shoot Trump.

They're all doing victory laps now.

So it's the right who encourages political violence, huh, Antifa-Boosting Media?

I think Trump was merely injured, though he was grazed in the side of his head.

Update from runner:

"Trump spokesman say is 'fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility'
After gunshots were fired at Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania, his spokesman said the former President is "fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility." He added that Trump "thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act." US Secret Service spokesman said in a statement that Trump "is safe" after "an incident occurred" at his rally in Pennsylvania. He did not provide further details."

Trump rushed off stage by Secret Service as bangs heard at Pennsylvania rally

Former President Donald Trump was swarmed by Secret Service agents and rushed off stage as bangs were heard during at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

Trump began his speech at about 6 p.m. and was only shortly into his speech when a disturbance caused Secret Service to swarm the former president. He was then led off the stage quickly, pumping his fist.

There appeared to be blood on his right ear as he was being taken off stage.

Hobby Thread - July 13, 2024 [TRex]

20240711-Hohenzollern_FamilyTree.jpg

Welcome hobbyists! While you mourn the passing of Dr. Ruth and Richard Simmons, pull up a chair and sit a spell with the horde. Do not adjust your interweb. This thread is headed to olden days. A spin of the Ace of Spades wheel of hobbies has come up with a theme of family history and genealogy for this week.

Who am I? Where did I come from? How did I get here?

Have you traced your family's history? How far back does your knowledge go? Do you have famous (or infamous) ancestors? Have you done research on the web or books? How has family history been passed down to you (i.e., photographs, old family bibles, etc.)? Have you physically visited towns and places in your heritage? Where are your ancestors laid to rest? Do you have favorite sources or techniques for finding family history? Do you have stories of finding unexpected things in your family line? Has anyone unexpectedly contacted you in their family history search? Do you save and scan old photos? Do you have boxes of photos or family papers that need sorting, labeling, scanning, etc.? Do you have old family photos, but no idea who is in them?

Let's not turn this thread into a Jerry Springer episode with crazy family stories. We can also leave aside comments on Mormon theology or marriage practices. We're here to talk about family records and research and history. As usual, keep this thread limited to hobbies. Politics and current events can wait for other threads - even those involving candidate family dynamics. Play nice.

Royal Poinciana.JPG

Here's a royal poinciana tree I found near my home. I am filled with envy that I do not have a yard big enough for one of these spectacular orange red beauties. sigh

Just call me "Dirk Bohunk" like my legion of admirers...well at least my dog would if he could talk.

Well, that is a spectacular tree, alright. Doesn't grow in many places in the USA.

It's been pretty hot around here. And we've had a few raindrops this morning. I guess this is our "monsoon". We're chopping weeds. What are you doing in the garden? Seen anything interesting in the neighborhood?

*

Here's a bloom from my Chinese hibiscus. It's a smaller plant and not as prolific a bloomer as the solid pink hibiscus in my yard, but it makes up for it in blazing colors.

A Political Enigma in Utah

antelopeislandweeds.jpg

Antelope Island, Great Salt Lake

Why did Utah choose both Mike Lee and Spencer Cox?

There are a lot of questions about politics in America that are hard to answer. To me, one of the more striking current mysteries is how the people of Utah could elect someone like Senator Mike Lee, who routinely issues conservative policy statements with some clarity, while also electing someone like Spencer Cox (He/Him) as governor.

* * * * *

Choosing Spencer Cox

The last time we saw Spencer Cox's name appear in a post here at AoSHQ, it was in J.J. Sefton's Morning Report of 4/29. Cox had been beaten out at the Utah State Republican Convention by Trump-aligned Phil Lyman. By a very significant margin.

But there was a catch.

  • That's going to leave a mark: Call and text records for the past six months for almost all AT&T customers have been stolen in slow-motion train wreck that is the Snowflake breach. (Tech Crunch)

Snowflake was an online data analytics platform with some major customers including Ticketmaster and Santander Bank. Technically I think Snowflake is still operating but I wouldn't expect them to be around for much longer.

While Ticketmaster is international and the number of customers affected far outweighs AT&T, in that breach the hackers got your name, address, last four digits of your credit card, that kind of stuff.

In this hack they got the phone numbers of everyone 110 million people called or texted over a period of six months. And it's all out there, forever.

It does not (according to AT&T) include the contents of the text messages, and calls even if recorded for whatever reason would not be stored in this kind of database. I hope. That would raise it from a mere disaster to a catastrophe.

And if you're not an AT&T customer you might still be affected if your phone company uses the AT&T network behind the scenes.
