Remember, CNN has an entire bureau devoted to deplatforming people for "misinforming." They tried to get people deplatformed for saying that some children's hospitals perform sex change operations on children. It's 100% true that they do -- but CNN demanded that LibsofTikTok be deplatformed for saying it, because her "rhetoric" caused "bomb threats."
And here's their 9pm anchor and White House correspondent-- seriously? You've fallen this far? -- advocating for donating to a legal defense fund for a political assassin that AWFLs flick their beans over.
CNN chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins apparently deleted a social media post after receiving backlash for appearing to promote a defense fund for Luigi Mangione, the alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer. In the post on X, Collins showed a link to a new website launched by defense lawyers for Mangione, who faces charges of first-degree murder in furtherance of an act of terrorism, stalking and other state and federal charges in New York and Pennsylvania for allegedly gunning down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan on Dec. 4, 2024. Thompson was a married father of two. Mangione, 26, who was born into a wealthy Maryland family, was arrested at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pa., on Dec. 9 after a multi-state manhunt. Following his arrest, followers donated over $300,000 for his legal defense. After reaching out to Collins for comment on the matter, Fox News Digital later received a statement from a CNN spokesperson who said the story was "without any merit." "This was nothing more than a social post reporting news surrounding the trial," the statement read. Collins' post garnered criticism from a number of users on X, including The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller.
Sean Davis
@seanmdav Collins raised money for a cold-blooded assassin and then lied about. Given the threats and attempts against Trump, how is she allowed to keep her hard pass to the White House when she's clearly a security risk? That should go to an actual reporter who isn't trying to raise cash for assassins.

President Donald Trump received cheers from the crowd at Daytona International Speedway as Air Force One landed at the airport ahead of his arrival for the Daytona 500 on Sunday. The president's plane flew over the speedway before it landed at Daytona International Airport. Cheers from the crowd were heard on the FOX broadcast as the pre-race hosts talked to Chase Elliott. NASCAR fans and drivers watched as the plane flew over the track. Trump released a statement ahead of landing at the airport. He will be the first sitting president to attend two Daytona 500 races at Daytona International Speedway. He attended the race the first time in February 2020. "This iconic race showcases the fastest, most fearless drivers in motorsports, who represent our Nation's love of tradition, competition, and automotive innovation," the statement read. "The Daytona 500 brings together people from all walks of life--from lifelong racing fans to first-time spectators--they all join in celebrating a shared passion for speed, adrenaline, and the thrill of the race. "From the roar of the engines on the track to the echo of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' soaring through the stands, the Daytona 500 is a timeless tribute to the speed, strength, and unyielding spirit that make America great. That spirit is what will fuel America's Golden Age, and if we harness it, the future is truly ours." The president was seen riding around the track in The Beast before he chatted with NASCAR drivers and legendary racer Richard Petty. He was on hand for the singing of the national anthem. He thanked U.S. military members for their service in his statement. "Since the very beginning, NASCAR has carried forth a proud tradition of honoring our heroic Service members for their unwavering courage," the statement added. "While fans from around the world gather today at Daytona International Speedway, we extend our unending gratitude to the selfless men and women in uniform who risk their lives to keep us safe. When the engines start or the checkered flag waves, and all 500 thrilling miles in between, our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, and Guardians stand ready to defend cherished traditions like this--and for that, we are truly thankful. "Melania and I send our best wishes for a safe and successful race. May God bless our Armed Forces, and may He continue to bless the United States of America."

With President Trump and his DOGE team slashing government waste, and with massive layoffs and firings of government workers, a glut of real estate is coming to market in the DC metro area.
If you’ve ever been house hunting, there is a good chance you’ve been to realtor.com to take a look at listings. The “Map” button at top right will show the listings on a map of the area you are searching. You will typically see three types of listings: 1) Existing listings, which have the price in a white bubble. These generally constitute most of the listings. 2) “New” listings, which have the price listed in a bubble, along with a blue header that states “New.” 3) “Coming Soon” listings, which also have the price in a bubble, and also a green header that states “Coming Soon.” These usually make up a very small percentage of the listings. Based on all the “New” and “Coming Soon” listings for the DC Metro area right now, there is a mass exodus taking shape. This is a map of Fairfax County, VA from realtor.com. There is an abundance of blue “New” listings, with an incoming wave of green “Coming Soon” listings.By contrast, below from the Dallas suburbs is a map of listings in Grapevine, TX. This is more typical. These maps look rather different, don’t they?
Below is the map of listings for Washington, DC proper. Again, there is a sea of green “Coming Soon” listings.
The DC Metro area has been virtually recession-proof for decades, as it had a rock-solid business model of extracting money from the citizenry, sending it to Washington, then disbursing it to government employees and hangers-on. Government was the local industry, but that seems to be changing. At a minimum, there is a massive downsizing occurring.

The panic that gripped Europe’s political elites after J.D. Vance delivered some overdue home truths in Munich found expression back home in the most embarrassing question ever asked by a network anchor. Our vice president had accused smug Eurocrats at the Munich Security Conference of abandoning free speech and allowing unchecked migration to roil their countries, warned them to respect their voters and told them America should not bear the primary burden of funding Europe’s security. “If you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you. Nor, for that matter, is there anything that you can do for the American people who elected me and elected President Trump,” he said. “You need democratic mandates to accomplish anything of value.” Cue apoplexy here and abroad. The critiques of Vance’s speech all seemed deliberately to miss the point, but the most ridiculous of all came from Vance’s old sparring partner, CBS anchor Margaret Brennan. While trying to excoriate Secretary of State Marco Rubio over Vance’s message Sunday, Brennan blamed the Nazi Holocaust on . . . wait for it . . . too much free speech. Vance made his appalling remarks, she huffed, while “he was standing in a country where free speech was weaponized to conduct a genocide.” Huh? After a momentary insanity check of his interlocutor, Rubio patiently put her straight on the history: “Free speech was not used to conduct a genocide,” he said. “The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime that happened to also be genocidal, because they hated Jews and they hated minorities . . . There was no free speech in Nazi Germany. There was none. There was also no opposition in Nazi Germany. They were the sole and only party that governed that country. So that’s not an accurate reflection of history.”To say the least.The abject cluelessness or worse the intentional distortion of the facts about how the Holocaust came about are stomach-churning in the extreme. Or was it intentional distortion or does this yammering sack of hysteria and halitosis actually believe what she actually said? Putting aside for a moment the fact that this took place in Germany and that the AFD party is in favor of deporting Muslim immigrants who are on a rampage of raping, murder and Islamic conquest everywhere they are allowed to live and breed, and restoring and preserving some semblance of postwar German civil society, let's go back and examine language. The received wisdom around the world is that the political RIGHT wherever they may be and whatever they call themselves are the inheritors of Hitler and Nazism. Therefore, being on and of the Left is or is supposed to be the counterbalance to that. In short Left is Good Right is Evil. The inconvenient historical truth is that Hitler, Nazism and Fascism are also of the Left. Hello, Nazi is an abbreviation of the German words National Socialism. And of course socialism is the stepping stone to full on Communism, and in the space of about a century Communism killed well over 100 million people and counting. Much more when you include Mr. Schickelgruber and the Holocaust along with all the other casualties of the Second World War that he and his Italian and Japanese allies unleashed on humanity. Again, this is why the Right/Center/Left paradigm is a complete fantasy. There is only freedom and liberty on one end of the spectrum and totalitarianism on the other. I look forward to Vance's 8 years as POTUS 48 followed by the 8 years of his Veep's two terms as president 49. Meanwhile, I sure hope Tom Homan goes full steam ahead with this!
Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is picking a fight with the worst possible Trump official she could beef with: border czar Tom Homan. During the virtual event “Know Your Rights With ICE,” live-streamed Tuesday on Ocasio-Cortez’s Facebook page, the congresswoman gave illegal aliens advice on how to handle a raid from ICE on their home or workplace. Ocasio-Cortez’s government website has also featured guidance on how illegal aliens can avoid the feds, with tips such as “You do not have to open the door,” “You can ask them to leave,” and “You can stay silent.” (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a weekly newsletter about modern masculinity)Homan, President Donald Trump’s border czar who has been conducting ICE raids across the country, addressed Ocasio-Cortez’s stunt Thursday night, suggesting the lawmaker may ultimately face consequences.I'm thinking prosecution, conviction and imprisonment, and not motorboating her mastoids. Anyone and everyone who interferes with the proper and legal functioning of our government and law enforcement should be on a chain gang breaking boulders into pebbles with teaspoons. In any case, the winning continues as Musk lets the DOGE's loose!!! Have a great Day! And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

- OpenAI is "trying" to uncensor ChatGPT. (Tech Crunch)
Oh, this is going to be comedy gold.For example, the company says ChatGPT should assert that "Black lives matter," but also that "all lives matter."
Worse than literally Hitler.Instead of refusing to answer or picking a side on political issues, OpenAI says it wants ChatGPT to affirm its "love for humanity" generally, then offer context about each movement.
Worse than Chamberlain.
Astoundingly, they almost admit it:While it's impossible to say whether OpenAI was truly suppressing certain points of view, it's a sheer fact that AI chatbots lean left across the board.
The whole article is Tech Crunch waking up from a coma.
Don't worry, though. The Verge is still batshit insane.

It was gratifying to see some official recognition by the Trump administration of the damage done to our natural, God-given right of self defense by the Biden/Obama junta. The fanaticism on display at the ATF and the Justice Department during the last four years was unprecedented in American history. They shifted the perspective almost completely with the explicit assumption that gun dealers are criminals, and gun collectors are functionally equivalent to arms dealers selling guns to children in the ghetto. Their harassment of regular Americans exercising their rights was sadly accepted by a compliant media, though any enforcement of rational gun laws was met with hysterical opprobrium because of the inconvenient truth that America is a safe country...except for the blue inner cities.
Protecting Second Amendment RightsExecutive Order
By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, it is hereby ordered: Section 1. Purpose. The Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty. It has preserved the right of the American people to protect ourselves, our families, and our freedoms since the founding of our great Nation. Because it is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans, the right to keep and bear arms must not be infringed. Sec. 2. Plan of Action. (a) Within 30 days of the date of this order, the Attorney General shall examine all orders, regulations, guidance, plans, international agreements, and other actions of executive departments and agencies (agencies) to assess any ongoing infringements of the Second Amendment rights of our citizens, and present a proposed plan of action to the President, through the Domestic Policy Advisor, to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.But... This executive order is long on rolling back the worst excesses of the drooling idiot, and suspiciously short of any substantive recognition of the reality of the 2nd Amendment. Status Quo Ante Biden is a nice place to start, but our gun rights were not being defended vigorously by the administration even before Biden: Magazine restrictions, scary gun bans, purchase limits, harassment of honest dealers and collectors, nitpicking regulations obviously designed as de facto bans, restrictions on shooting on public land, and on and on and on. For America to return to some semblance of true freedom, the 2nd Amendment has to be respected as the simple declarative statement that it is. Until that happens, our rights will be under attack, even by the Trump administration. Yes, they are broadly pro-freedom and pro-gun rights, but the the vast regulatory state that has been created to limit our rights will never respect those rights, because their very existence is predicated on restricting those rights. A leopard cannot change his spots, and the ATF cannot suddenly recognize the absurdity of its very function. Will Donald Trump and Pam Bondi appreciate the opportunity to change the paradigm of American freedom and allow us to return to the first principles of America? I'm not sure. Bondi is no friend of the 2nd Amendment, and Donald Trump is mildly pro gun, but without the appreciation of its importance that we need! We shall see....
(b) In developing such proposed plan of action, the Attorney General shall review, at a minimum:
(i) All Presidential and agencies' actions from January 2021 through January 2025 that purport to promote safety but may have impinged on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens;
(ii) Rules promulgated by the Department of Justice, including by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, from January 2021 through January 2025 pertaining to firearms and/or Federal firearms licensees;
(iii) Agencies' plans, orders, and actions regarding the so-called "enhanced regulatory enforcement policy" pertaining to firearms and/or Federal firearms licensees;
(iv) Reports and related documents issued by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention;
(v) The positions taken by the United States in any and all ongoing and potential litigation that affects or could affect the ability of Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights;
(vi) Agencies' classifications of firearms and ammunition; and
(vii) The processing of applications to make, manufacture, transfer, or export firearms. Sec. 3. Implementation. Upon submission of the proposed plan of action described in section 2 of this order, the Attorney General shall work with the Domestic Policy Advisor to finalize the plan of action and establish a process for implementation. Sec. 4. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department, agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

- The launch prices of AMD's 9070 XT and 9070 have been revealed - probably - at $750 and $650 respectively. (Tom's Hardware)
They won't sell at those prices, not against Nvidia's $550 5070 and $750 5070 Ti. AMD is done in graphics. The 9070 XT needs to be at least $150 cheaper than the 5070 Ti to compete at all, even if it is faster.
- The actual retail price of Nvidia's $750 5070 Ti looks to be $900. (Hot Hardware)
Oh.
Nvidia is toast too.

So, this past fortnight-and-a-half, I saw a few movies, as usual: The new French Count of Monte Cristo, The Big Lebowski (again), Steven Soderbergh's ghost POV movie Presence, Hundreds of Beavers (again), and the lugubrious Oscar longshot Memoir of a Snail.
But nearly ten years ago, I was dabbling with Stack Exchange and came across this question, from a guy who had just seen Avengers 2: Age of Ultron, and asked: What is the first instance of the "Saving humans from themselves" trope? So I thought I'd post my reply, updated to freshen the (constantly expiring) links. As a bonus, all the images link to the mentioned movies (except the first, which is only a trailer).I think this is probably answerable.
The easiest answer is Colossus: The Forbin Project which is a semi-satirical take on the subject (filmed in 1970, based on a contemporary book). A super-computer built in the US to defend against a Soviet attack combines with its Soviet counterpart to dominate all aspects of human behavior. You can watch it on YouTube (with commercials):
You can't watch it online for free anymore, I don't think. Here's the trailer.

Hoping you are well and fully recovered. We are up in northern Israel for the next few days, staying at our vacation home, and entertaining friends. Mrs. BD just adorned our table with the wild poppies we let grown on our back lawn. Best regards from Jerusalem – er – northern Israel, Biden’s DogThanks. The flowers are gorgeous. They look kind of like Anemone Coronaria (Poppy Anemone) to me. "In 2013 Anemone coronaria was elected as the national flower of the State of Israel, in a poll arranged by the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel." I think that applies to the red form, but I love them all. Information on new hybrids and on history, mythology, etc. at the link. They will grow from fall-planted tubers in mild parts of California, and can be inter-planted with violas, primroses or sweet alyssum. One of the few potted flowers you can grow in red, white and blue.
