Prayer Requests: 7/21 – TA needs prayers for his daughter, Sarah, who is profoundly sad and lonely. 8/2 – She Hobbit and her young children need prayers on the passing of her husband, Kate Winslet’s Boobs. He succumbed to a lengthy struggle with kidney cancer over the weekend. 8/11 – Grannysaurus Rex requests prayers for her sister-in-law’s father, who has gone into hospice for lung cancer. Please pray for a peaceful passing and God’s grace and comfort for his family, friends, and medical staff. 8/16 – Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) asks for prayers for his mother, who is undergoing a (hopefully minor) surgery next week. 8/16 – Joe Mama sends his thanks for all the prayers. He is on the mend; his blood clots are slowly dissolving. 8/20 – Pooky’s Girl sends thanks that she has received preliminary approval for the VA Caregiver Program, so she can cut back her hours at work while she takes care of Pooky full-time. They have lots of appointments in the next month as different specialists try to tackle his mental and hormonal problems, so prayers would be appreciated as they try to find viable solutions.
For Healing: 7/15 – Taxpayer1234 would like prayers for her mother, who had a heart attack while coming out of anesthesia for cataract surgery. She is conscious and able to speak, but was being transferred to a different hospital for angioplasty and will need to spend time recovering. Taxpayer1234 asks for prayers for total healing and a speedy recovery.
7/26 Update – Taxpayer1234’s mom is home and doing well. 7/26 – Polliwog requests prayers for her sister and dad. Her sister is having back surgery Wednesday (7/27). It should be an out-patient procedure. Prayers for a successful surgery and quick healing/recovery are welcome. Her Dad has tested positive for Covid. He mostly just feels really tired, but the concern is that if he caught it even when vaccinated that her grandparents could get it too, and they’re in their 90s. Prayers for Dad’s complete recovery and protection for the others in the house would be much appreciated.
8/2 Update – Her sister’s surgery went well, and she had immediate relief from the constant burning pain in her legs. Her recovery seems to be steady and she’s working hard on the physical therapy so she can get back to work. Also, her dad has recovered from Covid, and her grandfather may have caught it too (no test done), but seems to be recovering pretty well even though he’s in his late 90s and has much reduced lung function. Thanks for everyone’s prayers. 7/28 – BignJames asks for prayers for his big brother BignSteve, who has pancreatic cancer. A course of chemo went well and he’s scheduled for a “Whipple Procedure” on 8/12. Any and all prayers are sincerely appreciated. 8/4 – IllTemperedCur requests prayers for his mom’s husband, Jan. He is going through chemo right now for stage 4 lung cancer. They are keeping him as cheerful as possible, but any prayers from the Horde would be appreciated. 8/10 – Katya, the designated driver, sends an update on her cancer treatments and continuing care. She is struggling with lymphedema now. It’s getting very painful, and her arm is beginning to swell. It’s causing more pain than any other aspect of the cancer. Please pray for relief. 8/21 – Tonypete asks for prayers for a previous work pal, Ryan. Ryan suffered a massive toke on 8/12 and has been in the ICU since then. He is in pretty bad shape but is fighting hard to hold on. He is a single parent of two young kids, and only 43 years old. 8/22 – Hrothgar asks for prayers for Emma, a 16-year-old girl who apparently had a stroke. Her condition is still being evaluated, and she has been medevaced to the Children’s Hospital in Baltimore.

The way I remember it is that the first, second, third is the count to get back to siblings, i.e. my cousins are first cousins because we're one step from our parents who are siblings. My kids and my cousin's kids are second cousins, two steps from the siblings, and so on.
The "removed" denotes a generational difference. I'm the first cousin, once removed, to my cousin's kids. (As they are to me.)
Not too hard once you get the hang of it.

The GA GOP did it to themselves. I can't believe that they think getting either Purdue or Loeffler to play savior against Walker will help them - they were the stiffs that lost those two seats in the first place.
I certainly understand (and support) why both were turfed out in the first place. If GA voters don't see that the only way out this time is to get a Trumpian voice inside the Senate in 2022, they should be left to their fate. Like I said before, Walker has some baggage that needs to be addressed, but he deserves the shot. The rest of the GOP have obviously been failures to this point.

I love good typos in cookbooks. My favorite, seen twice now, is to add eggs and heat well. The first time I saw this it was in a Christmas cookbook in a used bookstore; it was a pudding, so it wasn’t entirely obvious it was a typo. However, one of the previous owners had carefully crossed out the “h” and replaced it with a “b”.

I bought my first tube, which I've barely used, from Tractor Supply. They have disabled that item, so I found A & M Farm Supply, https://www.cactusvalleytx.com/, and ordered 3 more tubes -- about $22 total with shipping. As for the amount, the tube has a measuring stick within it. You line up the marker ring to the correct point -- 1 marker = about 50 lbs. on an adult human, so I did 3 marks -- and push the paste out. Mix it with some peanut butter, and it's not horrible at all. I've taken it twice over 2 weeks. No side effects.

Got a bunch of older books with waffle recipes. Separating the eggs and folding in the whipped egg whites just before putting into the waffle iron is the traditional way of making them.
Folding after cooking and just before serving would probably be damned good, especially if you put sugar in the whipped egg whites. It would be waffle cereal.

I cannot imagine Mitch allowing Democrats to backend their future leaders into the presidency like this. My opinion of Mitch has definitely fallen over the course of the Trump administration, but not so far as to see him as anything less than a political animal.
He'd sooner leave the VP slot empty than fill it with someone less than 70 years old. I could imagine Mitch getting Romney in through negotiations with Biden's team sooner than Buttigieg.

I'm pretty cynical, but the Australia situation is just bewildering. Don't they CARE how this looks? Doesn't it bother them that people are now drawing parallels between them and Nazi Germany? I read a comment (might have even been here) where someone referred to authoritarian governments, "like CCP, North Korea, Australia..." Probably just being snarky, but a year ago that would have been incomprehensible, especially as a joke. I'm at the point I wonder when a Western country will start warning its citizens not to travel to Australia because of the danger of death at the hands of government agents.

Well it's not like Canada has any lumber. Well at least it had more. Fucking Canucks ruined half my summer with their wildfires, I had days @ my cabin that we couldn't even go outside because of the smoke, a few days we couldn't see the other side of the lake. We have our own fires up here now to even the score! Dryer than a popcorn fart all summer but looks like we are about to get some much needed rain. They of course are blaming the hot dry summer on climate change, because we've NEVER had those here before.

Back in my Army days, I was in Istanbul. One of the pilots recommended a restuarant in town and he would order desserts. Apparently you had to order by 2 PM or you couldn't get one. Chocolate souffle.

Dude, ran into her in an auto parts store in Battle Ground, Wa. years ago. She is a midget. Was wearing camo and was packing some pounds. The young motorheads showed keen interest in her. Which was very troubling, especially because within the prior 12 months she had been charged with beating her boyfriend with a hubcap.
