Remember Aaron Colton?

A few months ago I posted about the 14-year old street biker who wanted to use his incredible abilities to entertain the troops. He wanted to find a way that he could go to one of the war zones in person and perform for the troops to attempt to uplift their spirits and to thank them for what they are doing.

Well, it seems Aaron found this little blog and posted a comment. I've placed it here so everyone can see what's going on with his attempts:

I just wanted to thank you for picking up on my desire to give the troops a little lift from home. They have to feel pretty depressed thinking that none of us have enough guts to stick it out when we are living in luxury and they are the ones that are making all of the sacrifices and living the misery.

I really do appreciate the military support blogs that have helped publicize what I am trying to do. We are making progress and we have hired a publicist. Calling the USO can help, especially if you have a connection with the military. I know from the troops that I have performed for that they love the show. And I am sure the support that I can show by going to Iraq and Afghanistan will mean all that much more for them and really bring the message of the support they have from many many people at home. It also reminds them of home and what they are fighting for, because many write and say that they can not wait until they can get back to America and hop on their motorcycles again and ride and stunt and be free.

I wish the soldiers could just feel how much love and pride my family alone has in its hearts for them. When I think of how many guys might feel that we have let them down and turned away from what they are giving their lives for and yet go out every day and do their jobs and face death again and again! Shame is not a strong enough word.

Thank you everybody and please find a way to show your patriotism and support. I have found that just my one persons support can affect many soldiers.

Folks, that's someone much wiser than their age of 14 years might show. Thank you for stopping by here, Aaron, and thank you for actually supporting the troops. I hope you get to head to one of those places soon. I know the troops will appreciate it.

NC Lottery Results

We already know that the NC lottery was a pack of lies. It was sold as an end to all school funding problems, and not one new dollar has appeared "for education." We also know that the little money it is generating is much less than it was project to generate. And a new report highlights the other effects of the lottery, exactly as were predicted here at Ogre's before the lottery was passed.

“Opponents of the lottery warned that it would be a tax on poor people, but it’s actually turned out worse – it is a tax on poor, unemployed people in Eastern North Carolina who already pay high taxes.”

So where's the Democrats to protect the poor? You can bet that if there were an individual doing business in North Carolina who was making most of their profit from poor people who "couldn't afford it," the Democrats would run them out of the state in a minute. AND THEY HAVE -- payday lenders. But this time, since it's the Democrat-run state government that's profiting off the poor, well that's just fine and dandy.

Read all the gory details here. It's not pretty -- but it's exactly what I predicted -- and EXACTLY what the Democrats want: more slaves dependent on government.

Eminent Domain in North Carolina

Once again, with BIPARTISAN support, a bill has been introduced in the North Carolina General Assembly. This bill, HB 878 has EIGHTY-ONE "co-sponsors" and 4 sponsors. The North Carolina House has 120 members. 85 members strongly support this bill (based on their sponsoring the bill). That's a full 71% of the chamber who supports this bill. The same bill was introduced last session -- the Democrat leadership opposed the bill and blocked any votes on the bill. Despite at least the support of 71% of the chamber, this bill has yet to see the light of day. Once again, the Democrat leadership continues to oppose this bill.

So, what could be the content of a bill that over 71% of the House strongly supports, but the Democrat leadership will not allow to the floor? Imagine, if you can, the next election cycle. The Democrat leadership, due to gerrymandering, is absolutely ensured they will never be unelected. They continue to select those who will vote for them, so they are continually NEVER at risk. They will never have to answer to voters because they will continue to select the voters instead of the other way around.

However, there are other Democrats who might actually have to put up a fight. There are a few Democrats who are in competitive districts (about 3 out of the 120 districts). And there are many Democrats who want to compete in statewide races where gerrymandering is much more difficult. So this bill will allow those Democrats to say, "See, I supported that. Heck, I co-sponsored it." But at the same time, the Democrats get to advance their agenda -- which includes strong opposition to this bill and any like it. This is how the Democrats work in North Carolina -- they claim they support something they honestly hate so they can fool voters. Then the leadership ensures that the idea they hate will never see the light of day.

So, what's in this bill? What topic is it that the people of North Carolina obviously strongly support, but the Democrats clearly hate? What idea will Democrats, in the next election cycle, claim they supported while they secretly absolutely despite? Individual property rights. The bill would amend the North Carolina Constitution:

Private property shall not be taken except for a public use. Public use does not include the taking of property for the purpose of thereafter conveying an interest in the property to a third party for economic development. The previous sentence does not apply to the taking of property which is blighted as defined by general law. Just compensation shall be promptly paid and, if demanded by the owner, shall be determined by a jury. Nothing in the previous sentence affects transfer of title pending final judgment on the amount of damages if the condemnor has deposited with the court for distribution to the owner its good faith estimate of just compensation, as provided by general law.

Nice. Can you imagine that? You can actually own property and the government can't take it because they want it? The Democrats honestly HATE this bill. Why? Because it takes power away from their greedy, dirty hands. And they'll lie to you about it, too.

The Democrat leadership who will likely ensure this bill never sees the light of day will claim that the amendment isn't needed because "that's already the law." Of course, what they're really saying is that the law is written, but if we leave things the way they are, then the General Assembly can change the law any time they like and can take any land they want whenever they want. If the Constitution were amended this way, then the General Assembly would lose the power to change the law to take any land they want, whenever they want.

Democrats want power. To have power, they need to crush freedom. If you have property rights, you have power. Democrats do not like you having power because they want all the power. They honestly believe that they know, better than you, what you should do with your land. And they do not want to give up that power. Freedom shall not live while Democrats retain power in North Carolina, as the killing of this bill will show.

Go check North Carolina Property Rights Coalition for more information about this bill and how you can help support it's passage.

Carnival of Homeschooling

Government is incapable of education. The current education system in America is honestly not interested in educating anyone. Instead, the current system is 100% about cash -- getting it and spending it. Anyone who claims different is either uninformed or lying. I seriously believe that the entire government education system should be shut down -- starting with the federal department of education.

However, that would require people to work. That would require people to actually DO things. It would require people to raise their children, instead of handing that task over to the nanny state. So I guess that's not going to happen -- despite the absolutely HUGE economic impact that would happen if all government education shut down today. Instead, for now, I'll have to settle with the next best thing: homeschooling. It works, and it is good. If you want your child to be educated with your values (and you're not a liberal), you have almost no other choice. Sure, private schools are an option, but they can be expensive.

So, in further support of homeschooling, I present this week's Carnival of Homeschooling. Well, actually I'm not presenting it, Principled Discovery is -- I'm just giving you the link so you can go check it out. So what are you waiting for?

Go, Democrats, Subpoena!

Cheers to Pat Leahy (Socialist-VT)! Keep up the great work, Chuckie Schumer (Hate Party-NY)! And yes, all you "Democrat hopefuls" (Shillary, Power Mad Party-NY; Osama Obama (Muslim-IL); Joey Biden (Communist-DE); and Johnny Edwards (Class Warfare Party-Unelected) -- please continue your "hard work" on demanding testimony from the President's staff.

This is wonderful.

Seriously.

As I pointed out 2 weeks ago, there's nothing wrong here. The fired federal prosecutors specifically work for the president. He can fire any one of them at any time. That's how the government works. No one can stop him because they work for him. And don't forget, Clinton fired 96 of them, Bush fired 8. And the Democrats NEVER questioned Clinton.

But I still love this. The more often that the Democrats play stupid political games, trying to score points for elections on such absolutely useless and baseless accusations, the less often they can raise taxes and steal my freedoms.

I wonder if Bush is thinking the same thing and that's why he's digging in his heels on this issue. I'd love to see them fight these subpoenas all the way to the end and when they finally give in and appear, every single staff member should just absolutely and completely refuse to say a single word to the congressional committee.

Junk Science Trumps Freedom

A North Carolina Democrat House panel has reduced freedom yet again in North Carolina, basing their decision on emotional junk science and not factual information. The supporters of the new bill want to "help workers" and protect them from the boogeyman. Of course, in case you didn't know, there is no boogeyman. But that doesn't stop Democrats from passing laws that destroy your own freedom in order to protect you from the non-existant boogeyman.

Your personal freedoms on your own property is going away. No, it doesn't matter that you personally paid for the building, the government is going to "protect workers" who are in your building. And the boogeyman IS real, just ask Rep. Verla Insko. She's only protecting you from the boogeyman because you don't know he's there! Without Rep. Hugh Holliman to protect your workers from the boogeyman, he'd get them all! Oh, but there's an exemption in the bill for your own house.

So, if you want to allow the boogeyman to kill you in your own house, that's okay. But you are not allowed to let the boogeyman get you in your place of business. Didn't you know that the Democrats can protect you from the boogeyman?

Are you scared yet? Did you know that you're not protected from the boogeyman right now? The bill hasn't passed into law yet, so you're UNPROTECTED! At any moment the boogeyman might get you. No, he hasn't actually gotten anyone yet. That's right, the boogeyman that the Democrats want to "protect workers" from has never actually appeared. BUT HE MIGHT! AT ANY MINUTE! I don't know how you can keep working, knowing that at any minute, the Boogeyman might get you. You're not safe without Democrats, you know.

For years, heck, DECADES now, the boogeyman has been free to roam YOUR place of business! He's lurking around the corner, about to get you. YOU'RE NOT SAFE!

No, no, he's never gotten anyone before. No one actually knows anyone who the boogeyman has gotten. There's absolutely no evidence at all that the boogeyman even exists. BUT HE MIGHT! And only the Democrats, by crushing your freedom, by making rules for your personal business that you built, can save you from the boogeyman. Just keep on voting Democrat. Without them, well, there'd be too much freedom.

The boogeyman? Oh, it's "secondhand smoke."

NC Smart Start

"Smart Start." It sure sounds nice, doesn't it? Heck, if you're opposed to "smart start," then you must like "Dumb Start." You must be a racist if you oppose this one. It fits in the same category as "Smart Growth." SURELY you wouldn't DARE to oppose a program with such a wonderful name as that, would you?

Wait, before you answer, I need to tell you one more thing -- it's for the children. No, wait, it's for the POOR children. If you haven't heard anything about this program, don't worry, you will. There's no way ANYONE can oppose this. It has a good name and it's not just to help the children, but it's to help poor children. Do you support it yet?

Well, it costs billions of dollars and produces absolutely ZERO measureable results. Sounds like a Democrat's dream come true, doesn't it? Well, it is. And socialists gathered by the thousands hundreds dozens last week to "celebrate" this wonderful program that sucks tens of millions of dollars out of the pockets of working people to help the poor children, yet produces absolutely no results -- to ask for more money. And it's being held up as a model for the rest of the socialist nation. Just try to hold on to your wallet.

The concept is that since poor black children are doing bad in school, if we just give them money and train them before they enter school, since their parents aren't doing it, then they will do better. The concept sounds great. Let's take those who are "pre-disposed" to do poorly in school and get them up to the level of everyone else so that everyone starts at the same level. Then everyone will be wonderful.

One problem: it doesn't work. There has been no decrease in dropout numbers for participants. And the reports in the linked article are blatant lying -- they actually claim that a program started in 1991 produces people who are "more likely to ... be employed at age 40." For those slow on math, those who started the program in 1991 at age 4 are now only 18 or 19. So even graduation rates cannot even be measured yet! But dropout rates can. And they're bad.

But, like any good socialist program, all they need is a little more money. They measure success by how much money they spend, not by how many people are actually helped. Smart start is nothing more than yet another income redistribution plan that punishes the working and rewards the lazy.

Sue Myrick on Bank of America

I'm amazed. I'm shocked. A politician is actually doing the right thing, no matter the consequences. This is what is meant when you hear that integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. This politician is actually taking an action that is only good for America -- but will likely cut off funds from one of her largest campaign contributors!

Sue Myrick, one of my personal favorite politicians is doing good. That shouldn't be surprising to me, as I've followed Ms. Myrick since the late 90s. She represented me when I lived in Charlotte and continues to represent conservatives rather well most of the time. I have personally contributed to her campaign and I've not been ashamed to say so. The big "SUE" sticker on the back of my car is my open support for her -- even though I don't live in her district any more.

In case you forgot, Bank of America has decided that making a profit is more important to them than America. They have been promoting criminal activity and supporting illegal aliens with bank accounts and credit cards. They have been claiming that they've been "obeying the law." Sue Myrick has decided that if they're "obeying the law" when they support criminal activity, then the law should be changed!

Myrick's bill would make it so that banks can only accept legal United States forms of identification to ensure that active criminals will not be opening accounts and transferring money out of the country (perhaps in support of terrorism). And Bank of America is Myrick's biggest campaign contributor, so she's really risking a lot with this action. GREAT job, Sue Myrick!

Oh, and the Democrats oppose this action because they love illegal aliens. Mel Watt, Democrat racist from Charlotte, is either a moron or is intentionally trying to confuse people. He claims that he opposes the bill because he doesn't think banks should be responsible for checking people's immigration status. Since the bill doesn't require banks to actually check ANYONE'S immigration status, Watt continues to make a fool of himself.

We need more representatives like Sue Myrick. Then maybe we could have a country called "America" again.

Rally Against Terrorism

So, you missed the recent Gathering of Eagles in D.C., but you still want to attend a rally. Maybe you lived too far away and just couldn't make it to the gathering. But you support America and don't want to surrender to terrorists like the Democrat Party. Well, here's your chance to show your support for America and your opposition to radical Islamic terrorists:

On Saturday March 31st Americans of all ethnicities and of all religious backgrounds are urged to take to the streets in peaceful protest of Islamic radicalism. The primary locations of the rallies will be in front of several offices of the Council on American Islamic Relations deemed by many as a radical Islamist front organization.

The event ... will be a joint effort of organizations in a common goal of educating others to the dangers posed by radical Islam. “This is an opportunity for people of all walks of life to come together, setting aside political or religious differences.” remarks United American Committee Chairman Jesse Petrilla, who also noted that Muslims are especially encouraged to join in the rallies.

The rallies will be in Anaheim, New York City, Orlando, Boston, and Columbia, MO. Join Americans who oppose terrorism!

Total Hypocrisy in Education

It's perfectly okay, according to the United States government, the government of Idaho, and the education establishment in America, to tell captive students to assassinate those who vote Republican. According to the members of the ruling class and the education bureaucracy, that's fine because it's "to get ... students to think."

However, if someone tries "to get them [students] thinking" -- but DARES to refer to the Bible, you're out the door as fast as the very same people can throw you.

Can someone please explain to me how this is not a double standard? If the educrats are trying to induce students to think, why is it okay to suggest murder to get one to think, but not okay to refer to a book that's sold more copies than any other book in the history of the world?

Go ahead, try and convince me that Christianity isn't under attack in America. Someone please explain to me that suggesting outright slaughter of vast numbers of people in America is fine, while using a book that has provided a pathway to freedom, prosperity, and peace for millions is bad.

Once again -- when government gets involved where they should not be -- education -- they can do absolutely nothing but make a horrible mess of it. This provides yet more evidence that government is completely incapable of education. They cannot do it. They were never authorized to educate the populace. They should not be in the business because they absolutely stink at it. Go ahead, trust your children to be educated by a system that openly despises the Bible, yet praises those who suggest mass murder.

NC Tax Reform Lies

When you hear reports and read about the "North Carolina Tax Reform" commission, realize that you will hear lies. To begin with, then name of the group is deceptive. When you think of "reform," what you do think of? Here's a couple definitions from dictionary.com:

the improvement or amendment of what is wrong, corrupt, unsatisfactory, etc.

to change to a better state, form, etc.; improve by alteration, substitution, abolition, etc.

to put an end to (abuses, disorders, etc.)

to abandon evil conduct or error

None of those is what the "North Carolina Tax Reform Panel" wants to do. Instead, they are interested in one one thing: getting more money from those who work. Seriously. And they're even admitting it now -- read the first paragraph in that linked article:
A tax reform panel that's trying to find more money for the state from an economy that's dramatically different than a generation ago is committed to making more than incremental changes to the tax system, a commission co-chairman said Monday.

In other words, this "tax reform" group has one goal: getting cash for the government at the expense of workers. And yes, it's a group of Democrats who continue to rule the state (as they have for over 100 years) who want to ensure they remain in power and have lots of money (that they didn't work for) to retain that power.

Right now, they're discussing raising tax rates, raising sales taxes, applying the sales tax to more things, removing tax deductions, taxing health care, lowering corporate tax rates, allowing localities to raise taxes even more -- including adding new taxes on local fees, autos, and the moving tax.

And worse, Democrats actually believe that the word "reform" means "to get more money for government from workers." Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

New Advertiser

I'm proud to announce a new advertiser for this week -- but this isn't your usual, run-of the mill advertiser or advertisement. This week is the third time that this advertiser has chosen to spend his advertising dollars here at Ogre's -- and that should tell you something about the results you can get from advertising here!

But even better, I really like this advertiser. This week, it's once again New York Nitty Gritty that is advertising here. They'll be here all week at the top of the left column, and scattered throughout the blog.

This blog is a photoblog from New York City. It's not even the subject that attracts me to this blog, it's the quality of the pictures. The framing, the subjects, and the technical details of the pictures is just incredible. Head on over and take a peek -- you'll see what I mean. Really, this is a great photo blog that you should visit at least once a week.

Palm Beach Taxes

Palm Beach County must be run by the same bureaucratic morons that seem to infiltrate government. Yet again, they see a problem and have determined that government can solve it if they just had more money. To the left, and it seems, everyone in government, money is the solution to everything. They're dead wrong.

In this case, the county alleges that some people are breaking the law. Therefore, their solution is NOT to enforce the law, but instead is to raise taxes! And to raise taxes on people who are NOT even breaking the law! There's government logic for you. What total lunatics. Do these people have all vestiages of common sense physically removed from their brains when they accept employment in government?

I often wonder if these people are as dumb as they make themselves appear, or if they really don't care what people think of them as long as they get their cash to spend on anything they desire.

In this specific case, the county claims (without any actual evidence at all) that some people are paying criminal aliens less than minimum wage. Therefore, the county will charge everyone higher taxes so they county can provide these criminal invaders with free housing to make up for the lower wages. Using that logic, doesn'y it make sense that if we shoot all the county officials then the price of rice in China will decrease?

Instead of raising taxes, in a free country, where there were laws and justice; the county would simply enforce the laws. They would tell the illegal invaders that they get zero because they're criminals. They'd arrest the criminals and send them to ICE. They'd audit the homeowners and find out who wasn't paying legal wages to LEGAL residents -- and they'd punish those who break the law.

Unfortunately, this country is NOT about freedom or justice. Palm Beach county instead wants to punish those who do not break the law and reward those who do with free houses. Such is the state of this once-great country.

Lincoln County to Tax Moving

Some in Lincoln county, NC, have decided that they have found something that you are permitted to do by government that isn't taxed. So they want to tax it. They want to put a tax on moving. That's right, any time you decide that you want a new place to live, they want to tax you. And yes, part of the reasoning behind that is to stop you from moving -- especially away from higher taxed places.

What's really funny is the reason they want to create this new tax (beyond the usual reason that legislators just want your money). They seem to have just now found out that the LOANS that the voters approved in 2000 and 2004 (called "school bonds") actually have to be repaid! Yes, folks, the "free" school bonds that didn't cost any money in 2000, but was "for the children" actually have to be paid back! Just because it's called a "bond" doesn't mean it's not a loan.

So now the county is stuck with trying to find a way to make a $10 million debt payment this year and they don't have the money. So they're doing what they always do when there's total fiscal mismanagement in government: just take more from the taxpayer.

Fortunately, the county is represented by a couple Republicans in Raleigh, and they're not interested:

I'm not inclined to introduce a tax bill

Now if only we could get some people elected who have a concept of how economics actually works, instead of how Democrats want them to work, we might make some progress in creating a society based on freedom. That sure would be nice.

Lying NC Democrats

Now I realize that if you follow politics at all in North Carolina, you realize that it's not news that Democrats are liars. Why? It's what they do. And if they actually admitted the truth of what they want for you, the peon, even they might not get elected, no matter how much they continue to rig the election process.

Those of you who watched the elections last year and remember them (I know, that's very, very few people) may remember the main theme to the NC Democrat's campaign: Stop Corruption. Jim Black was in the process of denying that he had done anything wrong while everyone else was providing clear evidence that he was a felon. The Democrats continued to promise they would "fix" government and "end corruption."

As an aside, a quick note about Jim Black. Jim Black insisted for years that he did not do anything wrong. Even when he plead guilty to various felonies, he continued to claim he didn't do anything wrong. I can understand a person who breaks the law while claiming he did no wrong. In fact, I do that often. There are certain laws that are wrong. They are unjust laws. They do not apply to me because I answer to a higher power. No matter how many laws are passed, if they're unjust, I'm not obeying them. So I can understand Jim Black, the face of the Democrat party. But realize which laws it was that he thought were unjust and didn't apply to him: extortion, bribery, and forgery. That's the view of the Democrat party in North Carolina. Things like bribery and forgery are perfectly okay with them -- they honestly don't see anything wrong with committing those acts!

So, during the entire campaign season, with this huge cloud over their leader, the Democrats continued to say that they were the ones who were going to fix everything (after being the ones who started all the corruption). You cannot blame one bit of the corruption at the feet of Republicans -- the Democrats have run the state for OVER 100 years.

Now that the election is over and Black has finally plead guilty to felonies, the Democrat-led legislature is back at work. So, what have they got in the works for corruption? What do they plan for this year to "fix government" and ensure people like Jim Black don't continue the Democrat rein of terror, bribery, extortion, and forgery? Let's check their agenda:

Well, there you have it. That's right, the Democrats are doing absolutely nothing to change any way they have done business in the past. The new Democrat speaker of the House is completely free to engage in all the same corruption that Black engaged in. He's got his personal checking account, filled with taxpayer dollars, and he can write checks with your money for anything he wants and no one is allowed to question him.

In fact, in some ways, government is MORE secretive and can be even MORE corrupt -- they've closed hearings by the state ethics committee to the public! That's right, the committee that's supposed to meet and determine what's ethical or not in government is now only meeting in secret! So you're not even allowed to know any more what government considers ethical! Heck, Jim Black might even be ON THAT BOARD for all we know -- because we're not allowed to see it meet.

And yes, Governor Easley is on board with the total control and corruption. Two of his staffers (like he didn't know what they were doing) used their contacts and the "good old boy" network to give piles of taxpayer cash to Easley's pals. And Easley doesn't care. While it's clear that it was corrupt to the bone, and even Easley admits it was "inappropriate" (Democrat code word for criminal), Easley will not punish the staffers at all -- and the contracts still are in place.

Corruption: it's how Democrats run government in North Carolina.
