AMEN!
There is also one I like (the thought behind), but I can never remember the exact wording, or who said it, it's something like.....
Free men sleep soundly at night, because men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
No matter what the wording is, I can sleep tonight thanks to those men and women willing to risk their lives for my freedom.
GOD BLESS!

The Marines Hymn
From the halls of Montezuma To the shores of Tripoli'.
We fight our countrys battles In the air', on land, and sea.
First to fight for right and freedom , And to keep our honor clean.
We are proud to claim the title Of United States Marines.
Our flags unfurl'd to every breeze From dawn to setting sun';
We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun.
In the snow of far-off northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes,
You will find us always on the job - The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve;
In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve.
If the Army and the Navy Ever gaze on Heaven's scenes,
They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.

Creed of the U.S. Marine
THIS IS MY RIFLE. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
My rifle, without me is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will....
My rifle and myself know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit....
My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will....
Before God I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until there is no enemy, but Peace!

Happy Birthday Marines!
From the Commandant of the Marine Corps:
1. On November 10th, 1775, the Second Continental Congress resolved to raise two battalions of Continental Marines marking the birth of our United States Marine Corps. As Major General Lejune's message reminds us, the ensuing generations of Marines would come to signafy all that is highest in warfighting excellence and military virtue. Each November as Marines the world over celebrate the birth of our Corps, we pay tribute to that long line of "soldiers of the sea" and the illustrious legacy they have handed down to us.
2. This past year has been one of continuous combat operations overseas and distinguished service here at home - a year of challenges that have brough out the very best in our Corps. In Iraq and Afghanistan, Marine courage and mastery of complex and chaotic environments have truly made a difference inthe lives of millions. Marine compassion and flexibility provided humanitarian assistance to thousands in the wake of the south east asian tsunami, and here at home, Marines with AAVs, helicopters, and sometimes with their bare hands saved hundreds of our own fellow Americans in the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Across the full spectrum of operations, you have showcased that Marines create stability in an unstable world, and have reinforced our Corps' reputation for setting the standard of excellence.
3. The sense of honor, courage, and patriotism that epitomized those who answered that first call to arms 230 years ago is still indelibly imprinted on our ranks today. In commemorating our anniversary, let us strengthen our ties to the past by paying homage to those who have gone before us. As we honor the sacrifices of our wounded and fallen comrades, our commitment to one another remains unshakable. We take special pride in the actions of the Marines now serving in harm's way, and rededicate ourselves to the service of our nation and our corps.
4. Happy Birthday Marines, Semper Fidelis, and keep attacking!
M.W. Hagee, General, U.S. Marine Corps, Commandant of the Marine Corps.

Free Money in Vance
Do you live in Vance, NC? Would you like $20,000 cash for free? All you have to do is own a house and be unemployed! What a deal.
Seriously. The North Carolina General Assembly appropriated over $2.4 million dollars in the budget that was absolutely cut to the bone with no room for any spending cuts anywhere to give $20,000 to any unemployed person in Vance, NC.
They call it the "Home Loan Protection" program. I'm looking for a new program called the "Obey Article I Section I of the North Carolina Constitution:"
We hold it to be self-evident that all persons are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, the enjoyment of the fruits of their own labor, and the pursuit of happiness.
I'm not holding my breath because the Democrats in the General Assembly have been laying claim to all the fruits of my own labor for decades.

I don't know why I haven't been there, I just haven't. Of course, to save Texas, from what I've seen, you'd have to give the southern tip back to Mexico...

America is a Socialist Nation
I was thinking about this when I read a comment from someone advertising Shotgun Shells regarding my post on rights from a while ago. Mr. Shotgun said,
I thought that stuff only existed in liberal socialist countries in Europe. Can't believe that happened in Florida.
My eyes have finally been opened. You see, all this time I honestly believed that America was a free country -- a collection of states -- a free republic. I now know that I was wrong.
America is a socialist state. I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

Yesterday I got a chance to watch a video called "The Money Masters". Some of it was old news to me, but it did a great job of describing the details of how our money system works. It only loosely relates to this topic, but I would highly recommend it if you can find time to watch it (it's 3.5 hours long).
You can download part one here:
http://madcowpolitics.com/moneymasters.wmv
and part two here:

Even if you can only run it in a window in the background on your computer and listen to it, be sure to check it out.

I just wonder if it's too late to do anything about it without violence. I fear that it is.
Posted by: Ogre at November 09, 2005 04:10 PM (7PCNv)
5
No, nothing can be done nonviolently since it will eventually turn into a "Red Scare" situation. Worse, it could flip and the "revolutionaries" would be viewed as communist or anti-american.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at November 09, 2005 06:36 PM (5+Jvh)
6
Most certainly any revolutionaries will be completely vilified as anti-American and every other name they can be called. Just look at what people are called when they try and peacefully advance freedom!
I still support The Free State Project, but I'm not sure they can succeed. If it can be done without violence, great, but Jefferson's quote about the tree of liberty needing to be refreshed comes to mind here.
Posted by: Ogre at November 09, 2005 06:47 PM (7PCNv)
7
I would love for a peacefull revolution but in these times only a revolution like in China in the 90's would work. The blood of protesting American's would spark interest in the US. I hate to say it but that is the only way. Hopefully if this did happen someone could lead it and make it organized or it could result in more problems like the race riots or what is occuring in France.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at November 09, 2005 06:54 PM (5+Jvh)
8
A single leader would be problematic -- the US knows how to fight rather well. If a single leader were to emerge, they would be a target -- for assassination or simply capture and disappearance.
I think it would need to be a well-organized group, yes, but then again, organizing to overthrow the government is a crime, so it could be rather difficult to assemble.
The free-staters, free-westers, and christian exodous people might have the right idea on how to get things moving -- at least in the beginning.
Posted by: Ogre at November 10, 2005 04:39 AM (7PCNv)
9
Yes, a single leader would be a problem when it comes to the government; but if enough people heard of the person or their voice and then suddenly disappeared or was assignated; then people may see a direct correlation and might view him a martyr. My only concern with this is that American's prefer violence and with their death would come a civil war or massive riots. Besides who said the leader did not have other "officers" such as a para-military or other rebel groups.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at November 10, 2005 06:09 AM (/k+l4)
10
That's why I think the government would be very careful NOT to kill a leader -- just arrest him and hold him incommunicado in Gitmo or some such place.
True, Americans may be prone to violence, but perhaps not as much so as other countries. If it came to a civil war, and I'm not sure it could because Americans, in general, are pretty damn lazy, it would indeed be very bloody because so many Americans are armed -- and that is a good thing.
Posted by: Ogre at November 10, 2005 06:49 AM (/k+l4)
11
Yeah Americans are armed, which is good, but I fear that the government will either become more strict such as communist or possible slip into a monarchy styled system. Worst of all the Union could split or fall apart all together.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at November 10, 2005 07:05 AM (/k+l4)
12
I can certainly see the union splitting apart. If freedom is to survive, that will be the only way -- there are way too many people, organized, that are wholly committed to socialism and communism for freedom to co-exist with them in one country.
Some areas of the country are already more strict.
I don't see a monarchy making a comeback short of a serious nuclear destruction -- too many people just wouldn't accept the ordination of kings by the right of God, nor blood-lineage successors without drastic changes.
I think it will be most interesting to watch, perhaps in my lifetime, whether the country manages to be held together by force and continue towards more communism, or if it will split and some portions will move towards freedom.
Many people have discussed taking states and declaring independence from America, no matter what laws and rules dictate. Certainly, if this were to happen, there would be a federal response -- but what would the people's response be?
For example, if Texas were to split, the welfare socialists in Houston and other big cities would support the federalists, while the people in the rural areas would support the freedom fighters. Then what?
Would order be restored only in cities? Could Socialist America only exist in armed, walled cities while outside freedom reined? Could be very interesting.
Posted by: Ogre at November 10, 2005 09:03 AM (/k+l4)
13
I didn't mean a monarchy system as in king's but along the lines you discussed as in the cities being run their way and those in rural areas would be like the peasants of past and considered outsiders.
The larger cities would likely side with the federal government who would in turn send troops or other forms of control such as in the movie "The Siege", which I feel would represent a more realistic look as to what the government would do in extreme situations.
Posted by: Arbitratorofall at November 10, 2005 09:14 AM (/k+l4)
14
Wouldn't that be something to see? I think it would end up being like the old west -- shipments would have to be made from one federal city to another, and the "outsiders" would attack shipments, etc.
Of course, without all the outsiders producing for them, I'm not sure the cities could survive on their own. A socialist and communist form of government relies upon people working and producing for other people without benefit to the producer.
Yes, that's how this government functions now, but the larger it gets, the more it takes -- at some point the producers are going to stop producing only for others, aren't they?
Posted by: Ogre at November 10, 2005 09:22 AM (/k+l4)
15
Yes, it would be like the Old West but don't forget the US is still split up into different production areas. New York has the most active farms, Washington produces apples and potatoes, and the Mid-west controls alot of cattle so if they side with the government then the "peasants" would move or be relocated to other "rouge" states. This would then allow for most of the needed supplies.
The point I am making is many companies would pickup and move to a needed area and the government would "procure" needed resources even if it meant killing the "peasants". The armed forces, say loyal to the government and sided with them so they could then be used to "peacekeep" much like in Bosnia and now in Iraq.

What would be most interesting would the numbers of people who chose sides. If there were a vast majority of people that chose the "peasant" side, there would be no movement of produce from one city to another -- the peasants, armed, would simply stop them.
On the other hand, if the majority chose socialist cities, the federal government would have the upper hand.
I'm not sure, in this situation, if there would be enough loyal to the federal government to effectively keep the peace in such a large nation. There have been surveys of active duty military asking if they would take arms up against their own countrymen, and large numbers of them have said that they would not.

Big Victory for Socialists
Socialists can claim a huge victory in the Charlotte area of North Carolina this morning as the socialist and environmentalist candidates won elections across the board with only one tiny exception.
Environmentalist party member Pat McCrory easily won re-election as the Charlotte mayor, his 6th term, since there are no term limits. Said McCrory:
I'm mayor over everybody in this city!
Socialist Susan Burgess said,
The people of Charlotte demonstrated with their votes that they think we're on the right course
That course is: ignore crime and it will go away; raise taxes; increase spending; ignore ALL property rights; build buildings for the rich and banks uptown; spend as much money as can be raised on a train system that everyone knows will not work.

I can't think of anything witty to say other than in Monty Python voices 'run away, run away' The goal of socialism is Communism, run as fast as you can.

Charlotte's socialist mayor is a major environmentalist and enormous government proponent in Republican clothing.
And Michael, if enough people would listen and run away, socialism would completely fall flat. It depends on people working for the government!

I'm not sure on those visuals. A bunny means you're smart, a snail means you're far from stupid? Where does it go from there? What in the heck would 100% stupid be? Molasses in January?
Stevin, thanks for stopping by! Even if you are wearing a sweater-vest...

Another Opinion on France's Civil War
In case you haven't read any of the numerous opinions in the blogs and the newspapers about France burning, you should head over and see what Graumagus has to say about it. Perhaps the best part is this line:
How many of you out there have been watching the burning vehicles, the molotov cocktails, the looting, etc. and have been pointing at the TV doing the Nelson Muntz laugh??
Go read it all now.

Nice One
Sometimes someone does something good, and we like to sit up and take notice (other than our troops, firemen, etc.). Early this morning in California some truckers worked together to stop a felon from escaping from police.
Feel free to follow the link, there's a nice video of the moron trying to escape police while two tractor-trailers (or transfer trucks) squash the little car.
I know some people will complain about safety or some such crap, but this was just a good job by the truckers to stop the moron. One reporter asked, "What if the guy had a gun?" You know what? The truckers might have had bigger guns.
I just hope the truckers don't lose their job or have to pay for the damages done by the moron. Nice job, guys, no matter what anyone else says!!!

France's Civil War
What a headline: "ONLY 1,173 cars burned last night."
Am I the only one that thinks that's about 1,173 TOO MANY? But yet it's supposed to be good news? But it's ok -- the socialists have a solution:
speed up a $35.5 billion urban redevelopment plan, triple the number of merit scholarships for talented students and offer jobs, training or internships to disadvantaged young people.
Seriously. That is how today's American Democrat Party and the socialists think -- just give these people some money and they will be happy. The Democrats believe money can buy happiness because they are so happy spending everyone else's money.
But there's good news: President Bush may be
sending in the Marines! That would solve that problem pretty quickly.
There are still many people trying to spin this as just some disgruntled youth. But when the attackers are screaming, "God is Great," it's only with great effort that one can leave out the religious portion of this battle.

Ogre, you intolerant fool, didn't you know that it's not only OK, but it's the "globalist" way to do things, allowing people to FORCE YOU to change your country into theirs? Wait, that can't be right, wouldn't a "global community" be one where no one is FORCED to assimilate unless they move to an area already running a certain way? DANG IT, HILLARY AND HER ILK OWE ME A LIFETIME SUPPLY OF TYLENOL (OR SCOTCH, AND TEDDY K CAN SUPPLY THAT W/O SPENING A DIME), I have a head ache!

NC Legislature + Health Care = ?
You all know the answer to that question, don't you? If you don't, I'll give you a hint: the Legislature is ruled with an iron fist by Democrats. Now you know the answer, don't you?
The Legislature has formed a health care panel. Why?
The panel is charged with recommending ways that the state can provide health coverage to more people while keeping it affordable and of high quality.
They don't need a panel, they just need to know it's Democrats in North Carolina. The answer is already pre-ordained. Their answer is the same answer they always give, no matter the question: more government.
Their answer will be for government to spend more money and increase regulations. The only issue at question is if they will attempt to price cap on health care, too.
Of course, anyone who has studied history knows exactly how horrible that answer will be. The correct answer is to REDUCE government. Get rid of all the horrible, expensive government regulations and release the free market on medicine!
Costs would plummet! Services would increase! People would be free!
But that's not what North Carolina Democrats want. They want control and money -- and that's the opposite of freedom.

ahhh... the age old question of lowering ones Health insurance. There is no ONE thing that will lower health insurance. First. it costs insurance companies a lot to keep up with both various legal mandates and the high cost of paying for services. Services are expensive because Doctors/clinics/hospitals have to pay really high malpractice insurance premiums. Those premiums are high because the courts are dolling out insane rewards in law suits for things that were not "Mal practice" (Which should only be a lack of competancy/training when performing a procedure). Why are these rewards so high? Put a price on someones life, loss of lifestyle, pain and suffering.
If they want to reduce healthcare costs they are going to have to do something about that entire cycle.

I guarantee that removing the government regulations and requirements would absolutely reduce the cost quickly. Second, a cap on frivolous lawsuits would reduce even more costs.
Posted by: Ogre at November 08, 2005 09:53 AM (/k+l4)
3
I guarantee that removing federal and state requirements will have an impact, just not as large of a one that you are thinking. Now that most of the clients are used to a lot of them, they will be adding them to their contract. IE the time frames to pay claims, answer questions, etc. They also will keep certain benefits, such as infertility, well care and emergency benefits.
If you want to reduce the government, isn't adding caps to lawsuits just more government?
Posted by: Contagion at November 08, 2005 04:11 PM (Q5WxB)

The biggest reason that removing government regulation is because is will drastically reduce costs. For example, here in North Carolina, if I wany any health insurance, I am absolutely forced to buy ALL if it. I have to get coverage for mental health treatments, AIDS coverage, acupuncture, and a hundred other coverages I DON'T WANT.
Why? Because those coverages have so little actual demand that they would be prohibitively expensive if only the people who wanted them paid for them. So the majority of my coverage pays for all those things I don't want.
I want catostrophic coverage -- don't pay my doctor visits, don't pay for anything short of me being hospitalized. I am currently in a very low risk category for that happening, so my insurance costs would be VERY low if that's all I was paying for -- on the order of around $100 a month. Instead, the best deal I can find now puts me in at around $800 a month.
Needless to say, I'm uninsured.

If you get insurance through your employer... you may not be able to eliminate those options even if the government removed the mandates. Group policies are generally all in the same they pick packages and then offer them to people. Depending on what the company wants depends on what benefits are available.
For individual direct pay policies, that is a different story. Then again a lot of states have wording in their laws that exclude direct pays from the mandates. You may want to look into if NC is one of those.
Posted by: Contagion at November 09, 2005 07:51 AM (Q5WxB)
6
The employer doesn't have a choice, either -- the state mandates that the group policies cover all the 135+ different individual coverages and items. If you want to sell insurance in this state, you HAVE to cover all the crap I don't want, no exceptions.
Posted by: Ogre at November 09, 2005 08:00 AM (/k+l4)
7
I understand that, what I was trying to explain is that even with out those mandates, the groups might decide they STILL want them. If they do, then their employees are still going to have to pay for it in their premiums.
Posted by: Contagion at November 09, 2005 03:31 PM (Q5WxB)
8
And that's what freedom is all about -- letting people choose. They can choose whatever the heck they want, as long as they let me choose too.
I can certainly see instances where a company might have all the options in a group policy, but I think more companies would opt for the cheaper and majority plan, or even the old cafeteria plan.
Posted by: Ogre at November 09, 2005 04:11 PM (7PCNv)
9
Nope, the execs/management want all the coverage so the company plans end up covering everything.

You think? I don't think they will. I think they'd be more interested in saving money. I know I would, and I've run a couple businesses.

Having owned a hunting and fishing store in Colorado, I'm reminded of a comment our hunting outfitters liked to make in reference to llamas: "How do you pack a llama?" Answer? "On either side of a mule." Colorado llama breeders thought their "beasts of burden" would be highly prized by hunters. Hunters have NO confidence in them.

Who said anything about stopping eating them? You just shave them before you eat them...
And VW, they're like sheep -- you just trim them -- but from what I'm reading you only get one good trimming a year.
Beasts of Burden? I haven't heard of anyone even considering that, Dagney! I thought they were pretty much just raised for fur and meat.
