Quote of the Day

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing! --ANON

Additionally a married man should always remember:

A woman has the last word in any argument.
Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

GOLF

In 1923, Who Was:

1. President of the largest steel company?
2. President of the largest gas company?
3. President of the New York stock Exchange?
4. Greatest wheat speculator?
5. President of the Bank of International Settlement?
6. Great Bear of Wall Street?

These men were considered some of the worlds most successful of their days.

Now, 80 years later, the history book asks us if we know what ultimately became of them.

The Answers:
1. The president of the largest steel company. Charles Schwab, died a pauper.

2. The president of the largest gas company, Edward Hopson, went insane.

3. The president of the NYSE, Richard Whitney, was released from prison to die at home.

4. The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur Cooger, died abroad, penniless.

5.. The president of the Bank of International Settlement, shot himself.

6 The Great Bear of Wall Street, Cosabee Livermore, also committed suicide However, in that same year, 1923, the PGA Champion and the winner of the most important golf tournament, the US Open, was Gene Sarazen. What became of him?

He played golf until he was 92, died in 1999 at the age of 95.
He was financially secure at the time of his death.

The Moral:

Screw work..

Play golf.

The Palestinian State...

When I listen to Nobama talk about a "two state solution" to solve the problems in the Middle East, it never fails to amaze me how a bunch of hoodlums has hoodwinked the entire world.

If you are enamored of the plight of the misplaced Jordinians "Palestinian people", might I suggest you take the following quiz by my good friend at Dry Bones Blog?

Quote of the Day

"You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy
out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another
person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to
anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because
the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets
the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get
what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any
nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Dog for sale

A guy is driving around the back woods of Louisiana.
And he sees a sign in front of a broken down Cajun cabin: "Talking Dog for Sale".
He rings the bell, and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.
The guy goes into the back yard and sees a nice looking Beagle sitting there.
"You talk?" he asks.
"Yep," the Beagle replies.
After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says
"So, what's your story?"

The Beagle looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young..
I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA.
And they had me sworn into the toughest branch of the armed services... the US Army Special Forces.
You know the reputation of them Green Berets.
In no time at all, they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders; because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping.
I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running, but the
jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger.
So, I decided to settle down.
I retired from the Army (8 dog years is 56 human years)
And signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security.
Wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.
I uncovered some incredible dealings and a awarded a batch of medals.
I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed.
He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

"Ten dollars," the guy says. "Ten dollars"?
This dog is amazing!
Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"
"Because he's such a liar!
He never did any of that stuff. He was in the Coast Guard!"

(Even at that, the dog has done more for this country than Obama !)

Biden Blows It --- Again

Biden reveals himself as an idiot yet again, revealing the location of a secret VP bunker under the VP's residence.

There are some things that the general public just does NOT need to know, and this was one of them...It seems that Ol Joe just can't keep his trap shut when he's in front of a group of people; he just has to say the first thing that comes to his mind to show that he is "in the loop".

God help us all. We have an administration that is the epitomy of amateurism in just about every major slot, but especially in the top two positions.

Godwin be damned; sometimes the comparison is apt!

This is a bit long, but enlightening. Lest you think it was written by some right-wing kook, David Kaiser is a respected historian whose published works have covered a broad range of topics, from European Warfare to American League Baseball. Born in 1947, the son of a diplomat, Kaiser spent his childhood in three capital cities: Washington D.C., Albany, New York, and Dakar, Senegal. He attended HarvardUniversity, graduating there in 1969 with a B.A. in history. He then spent several years more at Harvard, gaining a PhD in history in 1976. He served in the Army Reserve from 1970 to 1976.

He is a professor in the Strategy and Policy Department of the United States Naval War College and has previously taught at Carnegie Mellon,Williams College and Harvard University. Kaiser's latest book, The Road to Dallas, about the Kennedy assassination, was just published byHarvard University Press.

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."

History Unfolding

I am a student of history. Professionally, I have written 15 books on history that have been published in six languages, and I have studied history all my life. I have come to think there is something monumentally large afoot, and I do not believe it is simply a banking crisis, or a mortgage crisis, or a credit crisis. Yes these exist, but they are merely single facets on a very large gemstone that is only now coming into a sharper focus.

Something of historic proportions is happening. I can sense it because I know how it feels, smells, what it looks like, and how people react to it.. Yes, a perfect storm may be brewing, but there is something happening within our country that has been evolving for about ten to fifteen years. The pace has dramatically quickened in the past two.

We demand and then codify into law the requirement that our banks make massive loans to people we know they can never pay back? Why?

We learned just days ago that the Federal Reserve, which has little or no real oversight by anyone, has "loaned" two trillion dollars (that is $2,000,000,000,000) over the past few months, but will not tell us to whom or why or disclose the terms. That is our money. Yours and mine. And that is three times the $700 billion we all argued about so strenuously just this past September. Who has this money? Why do they have it? Why are the terms unavailable to us? Who asked for it? Who authorized it? I thought this was a government of "we the people," who loaned our powers to our elected leaders. Apparently not.

We have spent two or more decades intentionally de-industrializing our economy. Why?

We have intentionally dumbed down our schools, ignored our history, and no longer teach our founding documents, why we are exceptional, and why we are worth preserving. Students by and large cannot write, think critically, read, or articulate. Parents are not revolting, teachers are not picketing, school boards continue to back mediocrity. Why?

We have now established the precedent of protesting every close election (violently in California over a proposition that is so controversial that it simply wants marriage to remain defined as between one man and one woman. Did you ever think such a thing possible just a decade ago?) We have corrupted our sacred political process by allowing unelected judges to write laws that radically change our way of life, and then mainstream Marxist groups like ACORN and others to turn our voting system into a banana republic. To what purpose?

Now our mortgage industry is collapsing, housing prices are in free fall, major industries are failing, our banking system is on the verge of collapse, social security is nearly bankrupt, as is medicare and our entire government. Our education system is worse than a joke (I teach college and I know precisely what I am talking about) - the list is staggering in its length, breadth, and depth.. It is potentially 1929 x ten... And we are at war with an enemy we cannot even name for fear of offending people of the same religion, who, in turn, cannot wait to slit the throats of your children if they have the opportunity to do so.

And finally, we have elected a man that no one really knows anything about, who has never run so much as a Dairy Queen, let alone a town as big as Wasilla, Alaska . All of his associations and alliances are with real radicals in their chosen fields of employment, and everything we learn about him, drip by drip, is unsettling if not downright scary (Surely you have heard him speak about his idea to create and fund a mandatory civilian defense force stronger than our military for use inside our borders? No? Oh, of course. The media would never play that for you over and over and then demand he answer it. Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter and $150,000 wardrobe are more important.)

Mr. Obama's winning platform can be boiled down to one word: Change. Why?

I have never been so afraid for my country and for my children as I am now.

This man campaigned on bringing people together, something he has never, ever done in his professional life. In my assessment, Obama will divide us along philosophical lines, push us apart, and then try to realign the pieces into a new and different power structure. Change is indeed coming. And when it comes, you will never see the same nation again.

And that is only the beginning..

As a serious student of history, I thought I would never come to experience what the ordinary, moral German must have felt in the mid-1930s In those times, the "savior" was a former smooth-talking rabble-rouser from the streets, about whom the average German knew next to nothing. What they should have known was that he was associated with groups that shouted, shoved, and pushed around people with whom they disagreed; he edged his way onto the political stage through great oratory. Conservative "losers" read it right now.

And there were the promises. Economic times were tough, people were losing jobs, and he was a great speaker. And he smiled and frowned and waved a lot. And people, even newspapers, were afraid to speak out for fear that his "brown shirts" would bully and beat them into submission. Which they did - regularly. And then, he was duly elected to office, while a full-throttled economic crisis bloomed at hand - the Great Depression. Slowly, but surely he seized the controls of government power, person by person, department by departme nt, bureaucracy by bureaucracy. The children of German citizens were at first, encouraged to join a Youth Movement in his name where they were taught exactly what to think. Later, they were required to do so. No Jews of course,

How did he get people on his side? He did it by promising jobs to the jobless, money to the money-less, and rewards for the military-industrial complex. He did it by indoctrinating the children, advocating gun control, health care for all, better wages, better jobs, and promising to re-instill pride once again in the country, across Europe , and across the world. He did it with a compliant media - did you know that? And he did this all in the name of justice and .... . .. change. And the people surely got what they voted for.

If you think I am exaggerating, look it up. It's all there in the history books.

So read your history books. Many people of conscience objected in 1933 and were shouted down, called names, laughed at, and ridiculed. When Winston Churchill pointed out the obvious in the late 1930s while seated in the House of Lords in England (he was not yet Prime Minister), he was booed into his seat and called a crazy troublemaker. He was right, though. And the world came to regret that he was not listened to.

Do not forget that Germany was the most educated, the most cultured country in Europe . It was full of music, art, museums, hospitals, laboratories, and universities. And yet, in less than six years (a shorter time span than just two terms of the U. S. presidency) it was rounding up its own citizens, killing others, abrogating its laws, turning children against parents, and neighbors against neighbors.. All with the best of intentions, of course. The road to Hell is paved with them.

As a practical thinker, one not overly prone to emotional decisions, I have a choice: I can either believe what the objective pieces of evidence tell me (even if they make me cringe with disgust); I can believe what history is shouting to me from across the chasm of seven decades; or I can hope I am wrong by closing my eyes, having another latte, and ignoring what is tr anspiring around me..

I choose to believe the evidence. No doubt some people will scoff at me, others laugh, or think I am foolish, naive, or both. To some degree, perhaps I am. But I have never been afraid to look people in the eye and tell them exactly what I believe-and why I believe it.

I pray I am wrong. I do not think I am. Perhaps the only hope is our vote in the next elections.

Two Women Playing Golf

Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched in horror as her
ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.

The ball hit one of the men. He immediately clasped his hands together
at his groin, fell to the ground, and proceeded to roll around in agony.

The woman rushed down to the man, and immediately began to apologize.

"Please allow me to help. I'm a Physical Therapist and I know I could
relieve your pain if you'd allow me," she told him.

"Oh, no, I'll be all right. I'll be fine in a few minutes," the man
replied.

He was in obvious agony, lying in the fetal position, still clasping his
hands there at his groin. At her persistence, however, he finally
allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, loosened his pants and put her hands inside.

She administered tender and artful massage for several long moments and
asked, "How does that feel?"

He replied, "It feels great, but I still think my thumb's broken!"

For those that accuse Conservatives of being "anti-Muslim racists" and that we "use Muslims as the boogeyman" to engender unnecessary fear; I request you view the following video and then come tell me that we are NOT in a war for the survival of our Judeo-Christian culture. I noted with sadness that it is already too late for a reversal in the trend towards Islam in my birth-land, please, PLEASE, DON'T allow it to happen in my adopted homeland too.

I'm hearing this second hand; supposedly it was a story on Fox news:

Some pro golfer supposedly said that if a Marine was in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and Osama BinLaden, and he only had 2 bullets in his gun...

...Pelosi would be shot twice, and Reid and BinLaden would be strangled to death.

Like I said, I can't vouch for the veracity of the story, but is sure game ME a beautiful mind picture!

Marines vs Taliban:

A large group of Taliban soldiers are moving down a road when they
hear a voice call from behind a sand-dune say, "One Marine is better
than ten Taliban."

The Taliban commander quickly sends 10 of his best soldiers over the
dune whereupon a gun-battle breaks out and continues for a few
minutes, then silence.

The voice then calls out, "One Marine is better than a hundred Taliban
soldiers."

Furious, the Taliban commander sends his next best 100 troops over the
dune and instantly a huge gun fight commences. After 10 minutes of
battle, again silence.

The Marine voice calls out, "One Marine is better than one thousand Taliban."

The enraged Taliban commander musters a thousand fighters and sends
them over the dune. Cannon, rocket, and machine gun fire rings out as
a huge battle is fought.

Then silence. Finally one wounded Taliban fighter crawls back over
the dune and with his dying words tells his commander, "Don't send any
more men, it's a trap !"

"There are two of them."

New Element Found

Lawrence Livermore Laboratories has discovered the heaviest element yet known to science. The new element, Governmentium (Gv), has one neutron, 25 assistant neutrons, 88 deputy neutrons, and 198 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of lepton-like particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert; however, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact. A tiny amount of Governmentium can cause a reaction that would normally take less than a second, to take from four days to four years to complete.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 2- 6 years; It does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes. This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a critical concentration. This hypothetical quantity is referred to as critical morass.

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium, an element that radiates just as much energy as Governmentium since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

Can YOU imagine a better use of $2.5 MILLION tax dollars than teaching Chinese hookers how to drink responsibly?!?

I could ALMOST see spending some tax dollars to help American hookers be safer, under "the public health theory", but just WHERE in HELL is it written that American taxpayers should spend hard earned dollars teaching CHINESE hookers?!?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Today is my birthday. No big deal, really, but after the events of the past three years, I'm greatful for every extra year I can add to the list.

Special treat this year; I get to see an Aunt I haven't seen since I was around eight years old.

The whole family is getting together at Stoney Creek restaurant and having a good dinner, after which, hopefully, my parents and my aunt will come here to Casa Meyer and let me show off the joint. Beth and I (ya riiight, MOSTLY Beth! surprise surprise!!) have worked our tails off to get the place presentable, and I think the results are worth being proud of.

I still need to cut the grass, but I had to wait until yesterday to get a new lawnmower I could use, and it needs to be charged for at least 24 hours before it's first use, so it will have to wait until tomorrow...least I got a nice birthday present that will "keep on giving" for a hopefully long time!

Lets see.....He appoints tax evading retreads for all of his cabinet positions...he reveals memo's that damage the security of the United States....he talks about U.S. "culpability" and "hubris" while ostensibly representing the U.S. as POTUS on foreign soil....he puts our great grandchildren in debt to "bailout" private companies and then uses those bailouts as leverage to control those companies...his chief of Homeland Security intimates that veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan are prime suspects of being "homegrown terrorists"(as is ANYONE that might have the temerity to disagree with Teh One's policies)....Yeah, I would say that any credibility that you MIGHT have had at one time is just about shot, Mr. Resident.
