Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, 159 years ago?

California became a state.

The State had no electricity.

The State had no money.

Almost everyone spoke Spanish.

There were gunfights in the streets.

So basically, it was just like it is today except the women had real breasts and the men didn't hold hands.

Quote of the Day

"Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right." -- Hugo Chavez

When the POTUS starts becoming the but of socialist in-jokes between Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro; you KNOW there is something very, VERY wrong with the state of government in the U.S. !

Just for Grins

Pinocchio, Snow White and Superman are out for a stroll in town one day...
As they walk, they come across a sign:
"Beauty contest for the most beautiful woman in the world."

"I am enter ing!" said Snow White.
After half an hour she comes out and they ask her, "Well, how'd you do?"
"First Place !" said Snow White.

They continue walking and they see a sign:
"Contest for the strongest man in the world."

"I'm entering," says Superman.
After half an hour, he returns and they ask him, "How did you make out?"
"First Place" answers Superman. "Did you ever doubt?"

They continue walking when they see a sign:
"Contest! Who is the greatest liar in the world?"
"I'm entering" says Pinocchio. After half an hour he returns with tears in his eyes.
"What happened?" they asked.
"Who the hell is Nancy Pelosi?" asked Pinocchio.

When Guns Are Outlawed...Only Government Will Have Guns

A man by the name of John Bowman has written what I believe to be one of the best essays ever written on WHY gun gun control is so bad for the People as a whole. It's long, so I put most of it below the fold, but please, PLEASE, PLEASE, take the time to read it in it's entirety.

Here's just a taste:

Author R.J. Rummel has produced a significant body of work including numerous essays and several books that deal with the subject of democide, a term he coined to describe a widely-accepted legal definition of murder that applies when perpetrated by government upon its own people. After examining about 10,000 sources over many years, Rummel estimates that governments of the world have murdered (i.e., committed democide on) approximately 262 million people in the 20th century alone. That shocking figure is no joke and, as Rummel points out, is about 7 times higher than the combat death toll from all wars fought over the same period combined. 20th Century wars were the worst in man's history and killed almost twice as many people as "ordinary" civilian criminal murders across the globe over the same one-hundred-year span. Yet, even though "the 20th century is noted for its absolute and bloody wars," war was not the 20th Century's biggest killer. Democide was. Or rather government was. And the comparison was not even close.

Quote of the Day

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb." -Benjamin Franklin

"'...just because you have an individual right does not mean that the state or local government can't constrain the exercise of that right...' Barrack Hussein Obama, 2008 Philadelphia primary debate, speaking on the exercise of 2nd Amendment"

Compare and contrast those two differing views, and you will be able to see WHY we are in the state we are currently in.

Re: Teh One's Agenda

Even the Russians are aware of Obama's agenda to drive us into Socialism.

It may be somewhat easier to see the trend if you're not living in the midst of it, but still. And the author lays out the method that was used to bring us to this pass; and it ios exactly the same reasoning as those of us on the political right have expressed for years.

Maybe thats not so surprising, as the author is a tiny cog in the machinery behind the master plan, that plan being to bring the entire world under the rule of Socialism.

The difference is that, having experienced over 70 years of the great joys of the socialist workers paradise, the Russian people have begun to move away from that paradigm and are moving more towards where we used to be.

But we should take note from the voice of experience anmd start to wake up from the somambulence we've been in over the last 40 years or so, before it's too late. I do believe (or more realistically, HOPE) the Mr. Mishin is incorrect in one respect; the American people WILL wake up before it's too late and reverse the course we're on, the question is, how soon. The sooner it occurs, the less blood and pain it will entail.

I just can't believe that the American spirit has sunken to the point that they will don the chains of Socialism without a whimper....if it has, there is no hope left for the world.

What a Ride!

Here it is 1600 hrs. and I'm beat down to the bone. I just returned from a long riding day on my Goldwing. Even managed to stay dry until the last five minutes of the ride!

I participated in my fourth PGR Mission, this one a flag line and funeral escort for a Vietnam special forces vet named Steve McCarty. Mr. McCarty served with distinction and had received the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle and a Bronze Star for bravery above and beyond the call of duty.

The services were held in Gas City, IN., a little town about 82 miles NNE of where I live in Indianapolis. The staging for the flag line was to begin at approximately 0915...an hour and a half ride to get there; an early staging time, you do the math.

I had only had roughly two hours sleep last night, so it was definitely a strong mug of jump-start time just to get this beat-up old hulk moving...and on top of it; my daughter decided that 14 WASN'T really the right age to be home alone for the time I would require to make the mission; and furthermore, the location was 2/3 of the way to the little town in NE IND. where my parents live, and "daddy, I haven't seen Oma and Opa in ever so long, can't I go with you, Pleeeeeeeezzzzeee?" So against what I thought was my better judgement, I took Anna along, hoping she wouldn't embarrass me at such a solemn occasion.

I needn't have worried, she fit in like a true Rider, and she was allowed to stand the Flag Line with the rest of us, which made her feel extra special....it was a sight to behold; a little slip of a 14 yo girl proudly holding her banner in her assigned post amid 40-45 grizzled leather clad old Vet riders, responding to the line commands as if she was a seasoned veteran herself.

After the funeral was over and Mr. McCarty had been properly consigned to his well deserved final rest, I asked her what she had thought of the whole affair and she responded that she felt honored to have been a part of something so important, and she was looking forward to attending her NEXT mission for the PGR, but she hoped that it would be greeting returning troops and not another funeral too soon. There IS hope for the next generation after all!

We then rode for 45 minutes to get to my parent's apartment and had a nice visit and a small lunch with them while Anna recounted her adventures of the morning.

Alas, the time to start the 3 hour trek home came sooner than either of us would have wished, but a darkening sky threatened possible rain in the foresee-ably near future, and there is little I dislike worse than riding in the rain, and one of those things is riding "two up" in the rain.

Anna was tired from the exertions of the day and was complaining of 'feeling dizzy' and wanted to stop and test her blood sugar, as she was "sure it was much too low". (Sometimes 14 year olds can really be drama queens --she "was fading fast" and "not sure she could stay in the saddle", yet when we got home her first instinct was to want to go play at the park, LOL)

We logged 260 miles in the course of our activities and used up 6.19 gallons of fuel, so we averaged around 40 mpg, not bad for a 1500 CC Cruiser loaded almost to max. carrying load, glad I finally had that overdue service done last week!

I know this is rambling and disjointed....but it's MY blog, and I'll write any way I wish too, and you can ignore it the same way.

My main point is that I am really greatful that there is such a group as the PGR and I feel extremely honored to be a part of it. I hope Anna will continue to feel as she did today; another couple of missions, and I'll have to see about getting her her own set of leathers so she can feel a true part of the group....she's already bugging me to teach her to ride, but I don't see that day happening any time soon, I'll be DAMNED if I let her practice with MY bike LMAO!

Senility is a terrrible thing

From my pal Jack Keel:

The idiom "familiarity breeds contempt" meets senility, this is too human not to have a small measure of truth, it's funny.

An elderly gent was invited to an old friends home for dinner one evening.
He was impressed by the way his buddy preceded every request to his wife with endearing terms such as:
Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc.

The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love.

While the wife was in the kitchen , the man leaned over to his host, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your wife those loving pet names.

The old man hung his head. 'I have to tell you the truth,' he said, 'Her name slipped my mind about 10 years ago , and I'm scared
to death to ask the cranky miserable old bitch what her name is.

Patients United Now

For those of you who still insist that Single Payer or UHC as it's better known, is the way to go with our health care system, please go here and learn what you are truly wishing to subject your fellow Citizens to.

All you one-payer system advocates, just what is your response to stories like Ms. Holmes ? Canada spends over 10% on average of it's GDP on it's health care system(s), yet they do not have the means to pay for adequate service for it's citizens. This same result has occurred in EVERY nation where a single payer system has been tried --- long wait times for diagnosis and/or treatment, or no treatment options being available at all.

I do have a dog in this hunt. I am a three year post op Cardiac patient. I have been diagnosed with Coronary Heart Disease and chronic Congestive Heart Failure complicated by stage one COPD and Diabetes.
I have had a total of two multiple stent and two open heart procedures (a total of four stents, nine bypasses, and one valve repair)done within the last four years. I depend on a C-pak unit to help me breath through the night and insulin to regulate my blood sugars.

Am I in debt from these conditions/treatments?

Hell YES!

BUT
I am alive to worry about these debts. Had I still been residing in my native Netherlands, I most likely wouldn't have survived the wait to see a Cardiologist, much less the wait for a Surgeon.

Single payer works great for standard preventative care, but when the rubber hits the road and you get truly ill, you'd better hope that you're not under such a system, if you are, you either come to the U.S. or you D. I. E. (there I spelled it for you knuckleheads, I can't get any clearer than that.)

We do need reform in our medical delivery system, but government is a great deal a part of the problem and has very little to do with the solution. The ONLY area where government may be of use is if it will enact some true reform in the judicial system and make it so that a case of simple human error doesn't become a way for someone to become, in effect, a lottery grand prize winner.

Prez Murders Two -- No news at 11

THIS would be a lot funnier if it didn't contain such a large grain of truth in it vis a vis President Obama and his treatment by the MSM.

People, Obama is a socialistic-fascist, and if you don't believe it, ask any company that took TARP money and what leverage that gave the President over their internal business practices. Look at the current Government Motors fiasco and tell me he isn't acting as a fascist in the mode of Mussolini or Chavez. Look at whats going on in the ACORN and investigations into it's activities and tell me that there is isn't room for doubt about just what kind of man the 53% of idiots voters put into the Oval Office; namely a Chicago political thug.

Oh, that's right, you don't know much about ANY of these events, it seems that our "watchdog" Main Stream Media has forgotten their role in a Democratic Republic and have become just a Governmental propaganda arm ala Pravda or Tass.

People, it's time to stock up on precious metals for the coming storm. The two most important being Lead and Brass, and the third being either Gold or Silver, since our regular currency will be worth less than the Reichsmark in 1933.

Obama & Co KNOW exactly what they are doing, Obama told us during the campaign what he was going to do, all you had to do was look at his past history to know exactly who and what he is. They are doing nothing less than tearing this Republic down fiscally and judicially so as to rebuild it into their Socialist/Fascist dream state, and We the People are standing idly by and watching it happen at the least, and actively assisting him in this endeavour at worst.

America I cry for you.

I cry for my youngest daughter; she will only know the Socialist State of Amerika, not the American Republic I knew and loved.

I will not know that State, for I assume that I will not survive trying to resist it from occurring. I can only say that that I would consider it an honor to die fighting, in whatever way possible to me, the coming tyranny up to my last breath.

An Oldie but a Goody from the archives

Subject: a blonde's horseback riding adventure...

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no
lessons or prior experience. She mounts the horse, unassisted,
and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady
and rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slip from the saddle.

In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm
grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but
she slides down the side of the horse anyway. The horse gallops along,
seemingly impervious to its slipping rider.

Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blonde attempts to leap away from the
horse and throw herself to safety. Unfortunately, her foot
has become entangled in the stirrup, and she is now at the mercy of the
horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over
and over.

As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away from
unconsciousness when to her great fortune . . .

Frank, the Wal-Mart greeter, sees her and unplugs the horse.

SCOTUS Nominee

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasnt lived that life."

So saith Obama's pick for the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor.

So tell me, imagine that I was the nominee (okay stop laughing, I KNOW how amusing that sounds), and as the conservative that I am had said:

"I would hope that a wise Caucasian man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a Latina female who hasnt lived that life."

I am POSITIVE I would be (and correctly, in my opinion) be excoriated as both a racist and a misogynist...but Ms. Sotomayer can expound thus all day and be praised as a 'compassionate free thinker' by her fans on the left.
She is further on record as opining that the "appeals court is where policy is made" Oh REALLY Ms Sotomayer? I was always taught that in our system of jurisprudence, policy was made by the Legislature, NOT by the Court.

If you are really interested in forming public policy Ms. Sotomayer, you should be running for the Congress or the Senate, not the Supreme Court.

I admittedly know too little about Sotomayer's views as yet, but that is why there is "advise and consent" in the Senate on Presidential nominees; to discover those views and opinions. I have learned, however, that her record on the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals is less than stellar, having been overturned on review in roughly 80% of her rulings....just on the face of it, do we really want someone with such a record sitting on the highest court in the land ?

I'm not naive enough to believe that a SCOTUS nominee isn't a political appointment, a President usually picks a candidate in line with his own judicial views, that's part of the privilege of being President; but I would expect that the appointee should at least be very highly qualified, and not be chosen, as I believe she was in this case, just because she was: A. a woman, and B., because she is a Latina; and so constitutes a sop to constituent groups that Obama is seeking to curry more favor with.

Mr. Obama, you ARE the President; it's time you stopped campaigning for the office and start fulfilling the obligations of the office.

Another Quote of the day

"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." --attributed to so many different people, it's impossible to know the originator (just goes to show you that there are a "thousand parents" of common sense)

Memorial Day

Photobucket

Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and we should all take the time to remember just what the day is SUPPOSED to be all about. It's not a day just for picnics and BBQ's, although that can be one way of celebrating.

Maybe it's because I was born in a foreign land, but I think that Memorial Day is the most important holiday we celebrate as a nation. To take one day out of the year to simply pay honor to those that payed the ultimate price for the liberty we enjoy is so little to expect, yet seems to have been somewhat forgotten in this modern age of partisan politics and total self-absorption.

Remember those that gave you the freedoms you enjoy; those that payed for those freedoms with their blood. Go to the cemetery and walk the graves of those fallen. You can give up an hour or two for those that gave up their lives for you. It's so little to ask....
