Friday Feast #143

Here's how it works:

Each Friday when you visit this meme, you will find 5 enticing courses for your mind to gobble up:

Appetizer
- a quick, tasty morsel to get you started

Soup
- smooth and warm to soothe your mind

Salad
- a nutritious blend of "veggies"

Main Course
- a hearty portion that is sure to satisfy

Dessert
- light concoction for your sweet tooth

And now for this week's fare:
Appetizer: Tell about a time when you had to be brave.

One time, when I was about 8 years old or so, we went to an Indian Reservation show. They dressed up all us kids as indians, even though I wanted to be a cowboy, and I'm pretty sure that since I got the rubber axe, that I was a brave and not a squaw.
Soup: Which upcoming movie are you excited about seeing?

The one starring me as king of the world. There's lots of bombs in it.
Salad: Name an item you try to always have on hand.

Nothing. I mean, if I ALWAYS had something on my hand, how would I be able to do stuff? Heck, unless it was something really small, you couldn't even walk without dropping it. Silly question.
Main Course: Imagine the most relaxing room you can think of. Now describe it!

Be back later to answer this one -- I'm busy relaxing in my mind right now...
Dessert: On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest), how spiritual or religious are you?

202 pounds. I've never seen a scale that only goes to 10. Most of them go at least to 300, and many these days go over 300. I think a scale that only goes to 10 would tend to break a lot.

Trackback Program?

Does anyone know of a 3rd-party trackback program that works with blogs? I'm looking for something like Haloscan -- because Haloscan hasn't worked in quite a long time and the trackback features of the server I'm currently on doesn't work, either. So is there a haloscan-like solution that isn't Haloscan?

Thanks in advance, if you know of anything...

Ogre's A Terrorist - Are You?

I just recently found out that I'm a terrorist. I wasn't aware of this apparent "fact." I mean, I knew that the FBI considered me a terrorist. I'm not aware if I'm in their TSDB database -- because they won't tell me. National security and all those such claims. But you see, I once read Unintended Consequences and was quite impressed with the book. Then one day I attended a FBI security briefing for technology security and was confronted with an image of the book -- strongly implying those who own or read the book were terrorists.

But now I find I'm considered a terrorist by many other government agencies! Seriously, I wonder when I shall be arrested and "Detained."

The state of PA says that I'm a terrorist. See that flag they show as a "terrorist" flag? I fly it outside my house every day -- just below the American flag. And it's on a big, 25' flagpole so I'm sure it's been spotted. Guess I better stay away from PA.

The FBI says I'm a terrorist because I (and I'm not making this up):

Request authority for a stop
Make numerous references to the US Constitution
Defender of the US Constitution

With all the references I've made to the Constitution on this very web site, I don't know how they allow me to roam free. They seriously, honestly classify me as a domestic terrorist.

The state of Alabama says I'm a terrorist. That link is to an archive of their page because apparently a lot of libertarians complained about the web page, so it just magically disappeared -- without anyone saying the information wasn't true. They claim I'm a terrorist because I believe in gun rights and protest taxes. Because I think the Constitution has been subverted, AL says that I'm a terrorist.

The state of Virginia also says I'm a terrorist. Why there? Because I'm a "property rights advocate." Seriously, in Virginia, you're a TERRORIST if you advocate for property rights. I think they're going to need to build more jails to house us all.

Here in NC, I cannot find anything on line related to the state and homeland security. So while I'm clearly a terrorist (the FBI says so), maybe I won't be arrested by the local folks just yet. But perhaps when they get a couple more taxpayer grants, they'll come visit me and I can start planning my stay at club Gitmo for supporting the Constitution (oops, I mentioned it again).

Incredibly, none of this is in jest. These various government agencies honestly believe *I* am a "domestic terrorist." That is so sad. Indeed, this once-great country has nowhere to go but down.

*** UPDATE:
Okay, I made a quiz. I used the exact words from the various government agencies web pages. Check and see if you, too, are a terrorist:

Are you a terrorist?

Your score is 75%

Congratulations, you are a domestic terrorist. Well, at least you are according to the US government. Consider turning yourself in to your local authorities. There are FBI offices all around they country and they would like to talk to you. Pack your bags for Gitmo because the government doesn't like you.

Democrat Conflict of Interest?

Jeff Taylor, over at The Meck Deck usually blogs on local issues of concern to Charlotte and politics and government. Now he's mentioned some actions of a state legislator -- he draws the picture but doesn't connect the dots. I'll connect the dots and you tell me if anything looks strange to you.

1. Rep. Mary McAllister (D) votes to give thousands of dollars to a non-profit organization called "Operation Sickle Cell." In total, the non-profit organization receives at least $343,683 from North Carolina, and a total of $465,794 from government sources (taxpayer money).
2. Operation Sickle Cell has as it's executive direction, one Mary McAllister (one and the same). Her salary for last year was $115,000.

You see, the actual stated salary of a North Carolina Legislator is around $30,000. It's supposed to be a part-time job and people are supposed to earn their livings elsewhere. But take a look in the parking lot of the general assembly and tell me what you'll find there. I'll give you a clue, it's not going to be a rusted-out pickup truck.

So yes, Rep. McAllister actually votes to take MORE taxpayer money from workign people via higher taxes -- so she can then vote to give it to a "non-profit" organization -- which then gives her a large sum of money. I wonder if Ms. McAllister is the "Executive Director" of any other "non-profits" -- or how many Democrats in the Legislature are also "Executive Directiors."

Democrat-led North Carolina government -- stinking worse than hog lagoons for decades.

Wrongful Life Lawsuit

Here's something weird. I was going to post today about the fellow that's suing because he didn't die. I'm sure if you watch or read the news, you've heard of this fellow. Apparently a doctor told him that he was going to die from cancer. Therefore, he went and spent all his money. Then he didn't die. So now he's broke and alive. So, what is one to do when you have no money? Sue someone with money. And that's what he did.

Strangely enough, I've just spent the last half-hour searching for the story on the internet. It's gone. I simply cannot find any references to it on any news site. I know I read it just yesterday. I saw something about it on the TV last night. I know it exists, but it's completely vanished. That's just odd.

But anyway, I was going to mention that he should win the lawsuit. After all, society has already determined that everyone ELSE, including government, is responsible for your actions -- and you, as an individual, are not. So seriously, this isn't his fault and he's entitled to lots of cash -- from you, the working taxpayer, of course.

Muslim Complainers

Ok, so with the big news about the Muslims who planned to kill American soldiers, of course there will be those who are offended and are going to complain. As Michelle Malkin points out, CAIR is trolling for "victims." But what's New Jersey's most prominent Muslim saying?

But when the government says `Islamic militants,' it sends a message to the public that Islam and militancy are synonymous."

Don't equate actions with religion

That's Sohail Mohammed. Know what, Sohail? It's not the government that's equating actions with religions, it's THE MUSLIMS. The government didn't claim that they were Muslims wanting to kill Americans, THEY DID. Stop crying that your religion is the victim when it's the members of your religion that are causing the problems.

So what else has Sohail said?

It's a disgrace to link a religion with these terrorists.

That was Sohail in June of 2006, talking about the 9/11 hijackers. Once again, Sohail, it's the terrorists who are linking religion to their own actions this time. It's not people sitting around pointing fingers, saying "Oh, they have foreign names, so it's Muslims." It's the MUSLIMS who are planning to commit these actions IN THE NAME OF ISLAM.

And yes, this is the same Sohail that complained about a television show ("24") that showed Muslim terrorists:

Somewhere, some lunatic out there watching this will do something to an innocent American Muslim because he believes what he saw on TV

Gee, Sohail, you mean like these Muslim Extremists terrorists that are working "independently" and are modeling their own actions after al-Queda all over the world? Perhaps, Sohail, it's the MUSLIMS who are modeling their actions after what they're seeing in the world to attack AMERICANS and not the opposite, as you claim.

Sohail, it's time for you to shut up and go back to your business. Stop trying to be the voice of Muslims in New Jersey, because your own religious brothers are making you look foolish.

NC Legislature to Raise Taxes

Are you surprised? This is what Democrats DO. They raise taxes. That IS their platform. They continue to raise taxes EVERY time they're elected. So what North Carolina taxes are the Democrats in the Legislature wanting to raise this time?

First, they want to raise the sales tax by and extra "halfpenny." Of course, that's really raising the tax by seven percent because they are going to raise the sales tax from 6.5% to 7%. Why? Because they want to spend more money, plain and simple. They want to force YOU to pay more for anything you buy in the state so they can spend money on, well, whatever they feel like this week. Keep in mind -- part of that sales tax money goes to PERSONAL accounts of the Speaker of the House and the leader of the Senate (both Democrats). Seriously -- they're completely unaccountable for that money.

What else? Oh, they want to raise the income tax as well. They have decided, in their infinite wisdom, that too many people are earning too much money, so they want to punish those who work and succeed by taking away their earnings. Why? Old faithful: "for the children." And yes, people STILL buy that line!

So you there, servant of the state -- get back to work and work harder -- the Democrats who run North Carolina need more money and they're certainly not going to work and produce anything, so you better.

GOP Presidential Debate

That really sums it up. Unfortunately, I truly think Ronald Reagan was a once in a lifetime person. It will indeed take a big, big man to fill his shoes -- and I haven't seen one big enough to do so yet.

High Gas Prices? Don't Blame Bush

Instead, people in Wisconsin can blame the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture. This is apparently the unelected government bureaucrats who have directly ordered a gas station to raise their prices by at least 3 cents a gallon. Seriously.

The entire concept absolutely baffles me -- but that's because I am still deluded enough to really want to believe we are in a free country. However, as this event shows, I'm just plain wrong -- we do NOT have freedom in this country. It simply doesn't exist.

If there were freedom, I would be free to purchase an item from a supplier and sell it for any price I wanted. I could sell it for 10% more than I bought it; or I could sell it for 50% more than I paid. Heck, if I wanted to, I could sell it for LESS than I paid for it. Obviously, I couldn't keep that up for too long, but I would be free to do it. But not in America today.

Why?

Well, according to the bureaucrats in Wisconsin, it's not "fair" for me to sell at a different price than anyone else. In that state, the government gets to determine the sales price of gas. I would love for someone to try and convince me of the difference between that and socialism. The government is controlling the manufacturing, delivery, and even the price and profit for the sales of an item. Folks, that is the complete and total opposite of freedom. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Jessica's Law NC

Well-Known Country Artist Charlie Daniels has issued an exclusive statement to Jessicas Law Now North Carolina:

We should all work together to make sure that Jessica's Law is passed in all fifty states. There are presently 15 states that have not yet passed any form of Jessica's Law,it saddens me to think that my home state of Tennessee and North Carolina were I grew up are included in the list of states that have not passed Jessica's Law. I do not know why, but I intend to find out." God Bless, Charlie Daniels

Various individuals, groups and organizations formed an action group called, Jessicas Law Now North Carolina. Group formed in response to the apathetic lawmakers, who are dithering about Jessicas Law rather than making a solid difference toward protecting our children. Our sole mission is seeing Jessica's Law passed in N.C.

The laws pertaining to Sex Offenders has been lacking in North Carolina. Still, North Carolina state lawmakers and officials' priorities lack the necessary emphasis for stricter guidelines pertaining to North Carolina Sex Offenders. Our children are not Democratic or Republican; they are children and should be innocent and free.

These days, children cannot play outside nor do anything without close supervision; parents are in fear of them being abducted. Many situations have occurred through out North Carolina, where Individuals that commit sexual crimes abducted children; these crimes against children need to be stopped. These individuals need incarceration or strict comprehensive monitoring.

Responsibility Conflicts

I was watching the hit show "24" last night. There was one scene that really highlighted some rather conflicting values of this country (The United States) today. Imagine, if you can, viewing the overall values and morals of this country as a whole. Imagine you are a visitor (or a child) trying to determine what it means to be a citizen of this country and determine what where it's values lie.

The scene was that where the kid was lamenting about his father's actions. For those who don't watch that show, his father was responsible for getting information to terrorists that enabled them to obtain and detonate a nuclear bomb in California. Over 12,000 people were killed. The son said, "I wish I'd never been born." He was associating his father's actions with his own -- he was taking some responsibility for at least part of his father's actions.

So, should he have? Are we responsible for the actions of others?

In the past, that was certainly the case. Entire families were held responsible for the actions of any member of that family. But is that the case today? Are parents held responsible for the actions of their children? When someone commits a crime, are their parents contacted? Certainly not. Heck, even in the case of minors at schools, parents are not held responsible. In some cases where that has been tried, there has been outrage!

But at the same time, what does it mean when government "apologizes" for actions of others in the past? Various governments and corporations in recent years and months have issued "apologies" for slavery -- despite any members of those bodies actually being involved in slavery EVER. So they are taking responsibility for things that they are NOT responsible for, nor ever have been.

At the same time, we also have government taking over the responsibility for the actions of, well, everyone. If you choose to not have health insurance, government will gladly provide it for you. If you do not have "enough" money, government will give you more. So you certainly have the option of not being responsible at ALL in this society and there are zero repercussions for that.

So where does that leave us today?

As a general society, we have apparently decided to allow no one to be responsible for anything -- and at the same time hold everyone responsible for everything -- but only in a corporate manner. So individual responsibility simply does not exist. If you choose to be individually responsible, today you are a rebel. You are at odds with the vast majority of the current society, whether you want to be or not.

Instead, today's society has relegated all responsibility to government -- even if that government is claimed to be "by the people." As a result, YOU, personally, are not responsible for anything. If you attempt to be responsible for your own actions, government may permit you to, or it may stop you. Clearly, individual responsibility is a concept that has disappeared from America, whether you want it to or not.

NC Mortgage "Reform"

According to the Democrat-controlled North Carolina Legislature, people need to be protected from freedom. You see, apparently there's too much freedom going on, and the guardians of right and wrong -- Democrats -- are working hard to curtail that freedom. After all, if you're free, you might do something dumb, and the legislature cannot allow that.

This time, once again, it's "unfair mortgages" that are in the sights of North Carolina Democrats. By "unfair," that means anything where you are free to make any agreement you want to borrow money under terms that you, personally, freely agree to. Democrats are smarter than you -- so they claim. So they will personally analyze any agreement you might want to enter in to, and they will personally determine whether it is fair to you -- no matter what you might think.

At issue is foreclosures in North Carolina -- which is what happens when you don't pay your mortgage payment for months and months. That's "unfair" according to Democrats. They're working to make it harder for lenders to collect on money owed them. What is the natural result of that action? Simple -- the lenders will loan less money since the risk increases that they will not get their money back. Thanks, Democrats, for making it harder for people to own their own homes.

Democrats: destroying freedom in North Carolina for decades. Then again, without them, you'd all be idiots drooling in the streets without any direction. Well, that's their view of you.

Over time, you have proven yourself as loyal and steadfast.

And you are by no means boring. You do well in any situation - from fancy to laid back.

Your mortal enemy: The Grilled Cheese Sandwich

What Kind of Sandwich Are You?

NC Rules Some Gambling Illegal

The North Carolina state of appeals has made it official -- things are illegal only if the government doesn't get their share. And many of the judges on this court claim to be Republican -- showing again that conservative and small-government are NOT synonymous with Republican.

Responding to the recent craze of poker playing, some businesses attempted to engage in free transactions between people who wanted to give them money. However, the state of North Carolina refused to give this company permission to operate a business because they said that poker was illegal. The company sued, spending thousands, because they believed people should be free to give them money for entertainment; and argued that poker was a game of skill.

The court ruled that poker is a game of chance and that only the state government is allowed to run games of chance -- private businesses would not be contributing most of their money to the state coffers, so the state simply cannot permit individuals to play games of chance unless the state is running the game. Don't you love what North Carolina considers "freedom?"

Friday Feast #142

Here's how it works:

Each Friday when you visit this meme, you will find 5 enticing courses for your mind to gobble up:

Appetizer

Soup
- smooth and warm to soothe your mind

Salad
- a nutritious blend of "veggies"

Main Course
- a hearty portion that is sure to satisfy

Dessert
- light concoction for your sweet tooth

And now for this week's fare:
Appetizer: Name something you would not want to own.

Phil.
Soup: Describe your hair (texture, color, length, etc.).

That's a rather personal question, isn't it? And racist and intolerant, too -- what if I'm bald? Wouldn't that be offensive? Do I get to riot, burn things, and stone people now because I'm offended? Can I sue someone? Do I get a radio show?
Salad: Finish this sentence: Ill never forget ___________.

And I bet you won't, either.
Main Course: Which famous person would you like to be for one day? Why?

Wouldn't that be rather mean? I mean what would happen to that person? Would they be me? What if they messed things up for me? What if they killed themselves because they weren't famous any more and that act killed me? Would I get to stay being them? What if I was the one who killed me while I wasn't me? Would the new me get to be both of me? Or would a tear appear in the fabric of time and space and suck the two mes into it? I think it's much safer to just be me.
Dessert: Write one sentence about yourself that includes one thing that is true and another thing that is not.

I think, therefore, I am.

Go ahead, ponder that one for awhile.

Mt Ararat

I imagine most people have heard of Mt. Ararat. It sounds like a neat place to visit. It's supposed to look especially imposing because the mountain rises up to it's massive height straight out of the plains. Well, now you, too, can see Mt. Ararat -- right now. Live.

It's at the Mt. Ararat web cam. No, really. It's kind of cloudy over there today, but check it out and wait for the weather to clear -- it's pretty neat. Oh, and keep in mind the time difference if you're viewing from the US...
