Return of the el Camino

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought society laughed the el Camino out of existence. Remember these?

elcamino.jpg

Well, I passed one of these on the way to work today, and the very first thing I thought of was, "Gee, they're making el Caminos again?"

No Freedom of Religion

Once again, another court has made a royal decree that atheism shall be, and is, the official religion of the United States. Someone needs to tell the Muslims who are mad at Christians that America is NOT a Christian Nation. Instead our official, enforced, mandatory religion is atheism. And if you don't like it, tough. I wish there were a law that made it so the government couldn't decide my religion. I wish there were a rule that said something like government "shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

But I'm dreaming of a place that doesn't exist.

In the case linked above, one person tried to give another one something for free. No one tried to force anyone to do anything. The courts ruled that that should not be allowed. Instead, the court clearly said that if a person might be offended by something, that something must be stopped and not permitted to happen.

In other words, based on that court decision, if you're offended by driving by my church in the morning, the church shall be shut down. Seriously, that's what the ruling means. Of course the commies at the ACLU claim it's an "endorsement" of religion -- which by extension means that the government is endorsing my church because they accept tax dollars in property taxes from the church.

In addition, since I am subject to the laws of the government, if you don't like me praying in my home -- if that offends you -- according to this judge, I should stop. Because, you see, since I pay taxes, I'm part of the government so if I'm praying, that's government endorsement of religion.

But, not to worry -- soon I shall be jailed anyway for saying things like, "I think homosexuality is wrong."

This is NOT a free country. We do NOT have freedom of religion. We have government granted permission to worship away from others who might be offended (for the time being). That is, unless your religion is atheism -- then you have complete freedom to participate in that state-sponsored religion any time and anywhere you like.

Where's Mohammed?

So, where's Mohammad these days? You know Mohammad, the leader of the religion of peace, right? Well, Mohammed's not around these days, but there's lots of people in the world today that claim to be following his lead. What have they been doing?

For one, they're telling people to convert or die. This is a common trend with this religion. They are telling people that they must join the Muslim religion and abandon any other -- if you refuse, members of this religion will kill you. Isn't fear a wonderful way to convert people to your religion?

They're also attacking young children. Remember the discussions a year or so ago where many bloggers were attacked for saying that we cannot win against this enemy because we aren't willing to kill children? This shows yet again that the followers of Islam are perfectly willing to kill and maim anyone who opposes them.

And yes, they're killing family members of anyone who opposes them to. The message of this religion is very clear: you join them or they will kill you. To be sure there are a few -- a very few -- who do not want this type of violence. Unfortunately, the number of people who think this way is very small.

To those who would compare this religion to Christianity, I wonder -- where in the world today will you find Christians telling people to convert or they will kill you? Instead, I think you will find Christians telling people they can be saved and instead doing as their leader told them -- loving others. Where in the world today do you find Christians following their leader and maiming young children? Instead, I think you will find them ministering to children and providing them with blessings and love -- as their leader suggests. And where in the world today can you find Christians murdering innocent people for simply disagreeing with them? Instead, I think you will find the majority of the members of the Christian religion trying to follow their leader and helping families of their enemies.

To those who would equate Christianity and Islam, I humbly suggest that you don't know much about those religions today.

Charlotte Observer LOVES More

More government, more taxes, more control, more power -- more ANYTHING is what the Charlotte Observer cheers for -- well, except for more freedom, of course.

Once again it's Mary Newsom proclaiming how wonderful the socialist utopia is. Of course, she doesn't actually use the word socialist -- because if she were honest, people would not support her. Instead, she just goes on and on about how wonderful things can be if only the county had the "courage" to raise taxes again and again.

She strongly supports raising the property taxes. She strongly supports creating a brand-new punishment tax on moving (the "land-transfer" tax). She demands an increase in the sales tax -- all so that she, with her superior brain, can decide how to spend money because, well, you're just too stupid yourself.

She complains that it's impossible for a government to NOT raise taxes. She actually implies that you're a moron if you think government could ever hope to survive without raising taxes -- never mind the fact that they already bring in more money -- they NEED to raise taxes.

She fervently hopes that the Charlotte city council will make MORE rules preventing you from having ANY property rights at all -- instead the city "leaders" and those who are smarter than you fools reading the paper will make all decisions regarding any use of any land anywhere. You see, she knows better than you.

She demands that Charlotte build light rail. Amazingly, she still is trying to sell the idea that it will reduce congestion! She's also going with the anti-freedom theme that threatens to cut all buses if the voters DARE to want to decrease any tax, ever.

Please realize, if you're reading the Charlotte Observer, you ARE reading a publication that exists to advance socialism. The editors there (who get to determine what news appears there) honestly hate freedom. They seriously believe they are smarter than you, and you're nothing but idiots who don't know how to spend money you earn. Oh, and they'll attack you and crush you all with a smile on their face.

Meet the Free State

I've mentioned the Free State Project more than a few times here. Some of you have read about it, and some have commented on it (thank you). But perhaps it's just not really "real" to you. Check out this short video that shows a few of the people that are actually part of this wonderful new experiment in liberty.

It's coming, folks. The only question remains is whether you want to be part of it.

Government Education

Government education is horrible. I haven't written much about the government education system recently because I simply don't have words to describe it. If you think the current "public" education system is even remotely interested in educating your children, you're deeply confused. The government education system exists to support itself, and has absolutely NO other purpose.

Have you seen the "evil" sketch that got a student suspended in Arizona? The silly thing doesn't even look like a gun. But worse, the government bureaucrats (teachers and administrators) are actually defending their actions. At this point, I'm now beyond saying that it's just the bureaucrats -- the teachers are just as bad these days.

Why do I say that? Because in order for this event to happen, a teacher had to see the drawing. The teacher had to look at the picture and either think, "Oh, I'm scared;" or "That's against the rules." The TEACHER then had to report the student. Then the moron that is the principal then had to agree, "Oh, this is dangerous." Then the idiots that are the district administrators had to look at this and say, "This is absolutely a threat."

Every last person in that chain of events is a stupid moron. I don't say that lightly. You people who look at a poorly drawn imaginary "gun" (it's even a LASER gun that doesn't exist!) and are threatened should be locked up in an insane asylum. You're fools. You're the worst type of government employee. And with this many people involved that are total idiots shows that the entire system is utterly and completely infected by morons.

No, there's NO way to compare this to Columbine, as the idiot administrators actually did! There was NO THREAT. It was an imaginary drawing of an imaginary object. There was no blood. There was no one dying. There was nothing even remotely threatening. This would be exactly the same as a person drawing a monster and people being "threatened" by that.

The government education system, from the administrators on down to the teachers, are completely and totally hopeless. They are useless. They serve NO purpose other than to consume your tax dollars, literally. They do not educate. They do not teach. They have no value. The government education system is completely and totally beyond repair and has nothing worth saving.

NC Republicans vs. Freedom

Those who read this site regularly (thank you so much) know that the morning post is usually about something to do with North Carolina state government. I like to find out and post information about goings-on in Raleigh because that information simply is rather hard to find. And often when you find such information, it's filtered through press outlets that despise freedom. I like to point out what a state would look like with more freedom. Often that means pointing out what Democrats are doing.

This time, however, I'd like to point out the difference between a big-government Republican and freedom. At issue are the comments of one Sen. Stan Bingham. He's a Republican from Davidson County, NC. He comments in The Lexington Dispatch.

He was asked about the recent activities of the Democrat-led General Assembly.

Things he was rather excited about this year: taking a literally infinite amount of money from taxpayers to give to cancer research. He's very glad that he was able to use the force of government to make people pay to research cancer. He's happy that people will either fund this research or be jailed. A freedom-oriented legislator would be very sorry a literally endless open expenditure would even be considered.

Another thing he's rather happy about is the increase in Medicare funding to the tune of 300%. He's glad that the state can raise taxes and spend lots more tax money on giving away free health care for, well, people who want it because they want it. Apparently he's glad that we're getting closer and closer to outlawing private expenditures for health care. A freedom-oriented legislator would be sad that government is spending more and taking away more freedom.

Sen. Bingham is sad that the teachers got a giant pay raise for doing nothing. That sounds good until you read further -- he's not sad because they got a giant pay raise for doing nothing -- he's actually sad that the teachers got a giant pay raise for doing nothing, but other state workers did not! He would have been happier if government could have spent A LOT more money giving away MORE pay raises to other government bureaucrats for doing nothing! No, I don't know why Mr. Bingham runs on the Republican ticket. He clearly supports everything that means government gets to take MORE from working people to give away to the people Mr. Bingham likes.

The state had a $1.5 BILLION surplus this year. That means they took in $1.5 BILLION more than they were supposed to. If someone were interested in freedom, even remotely, they would have given that money back to the taxpayers who paid too much. Of course, the Democrats who have run the NC General Assembly for over 100 years (seriously!) would never even consider such an option. But Senator Bingham happened to agree with the Democrats and was rather happy that they had spent every single dime and more. He apparently thought it was great that they had the "extra" money to spend.

He's also apparently clueless. When asked about the Jim Black scandal (that's the Democrat Speaker of the House who is in federal prison right now), he actually claims that 99.9% of legislators weren't involved with ANY wrongdoing. With only 170 legislators, that would be exactly 17/100th of a lawmaker who was involved. With JUST Black involved, that's already 0.58% who are involved. In other words, Mr. Bingham thinks that absolutely NO ONE else was involved with the Black scandals. Since there's already one other legislator that's in jail, and many others that simply HAD to cooperate with Black, I think Mr. Bingham needs to get out a little more and look around.

So you see, it's not JUST Democrats in North Carolina who hate freedom. There are Republicans like Senator Bingham who honestly don't like people being free. You see, people like Mr. Bingham know better than you how to spend your money -- therefore you should just give all your money to him so he can spend it "correctly." Oh, and if you don't, he will simply use the power of government to force you to give him your money. You're free to not do that, of course, but then he will have you jailed or shot.

Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Lifewalk

It is quite seldom that I ask for money from you, my good readers. Of course, part of that could be that I'm not providing you anything that's worth paying for...

But this one time, I'm just putting this out there. Don't worry, you don't have to participate. You can just continue reading along and I'll continue posting. In fact, I'll probably not post about this again, I just thought I'd put this out there in case you're interested.

On September 22, 2007, I'll be walking to raise money for the Mooresville Community Pregnancy Center. Who are they?

The Mooresville Community Pregnancy Center is an evangelistic ministry which upholds the Sanctity of Life by providing practical assistance, encouragement, and unconditional love to women and families facing crisis pregnancies. We offer alternatives to abortion, promote sexual purity, and provide post-abortion counseling.

And they do all this without a dime from the government. Imagine that.

My goal is to collect $500 in pledges for this walk. I'm planning on matching any contributions that others pledge, so if you pledge $10, the center will get $20. If you want receipts for tax purposes, those can be provided as well. It's a 2-mile walk, rain or shine. And in fact, just for you internet folks, I'll take requests for the walk. If you'd like to sponsor me to walk 0.5 mile with a banana in my ear, I'll do that (and provide photographic evidence, if needed). So give it a thought, I promise you, every dollar you donate will be put to very good use.

And if you don't want to do this over the internet or what not, do consider helping out the pregnancy center near you.

Problems with the Qur'an

There are certainly people who have an irrational reaction to appearances. There are those who unjustly accuse others of things they have not done. But if you want to read an authority on Islam today, be sure to check out Always on Watch. That blog will give you lots of accurate information on the advance of Islam in America and elsewhere in the world.

Meanwhile, I'd like to point out something about the Holy Book of Islam that perhaps you didn't realize. I'm sure even the casual reader knows that Mohammad is the prophet of Islam. He's the one, that if you say his name wrong, or draw a picture of him, many Muslims will literally kill you. Did you know he wrote the Qur'an? Well, not exactly.

The story behind the Qur'an is that Mohammad exiled himself to a cave and the angel Gabriel came to him and had him recite verses. When he was told the verses, he could repeat them at will -- he had them memorized. Mohammad was illiterate, so later on he repeated his memories for scribes, who then wrote them down. Years after Mohammed's death, these verses were compiled into the Qur'an.

No one else ever witnessed these revelations. There was no one else to confirm or deny these visits from an angel. The entire book of the Qur'an was "written" by one man. Compare that to the Bible, which was written over a thousand years by 40 different authors and has been verfied by hundreds of others.

And I'm sure many people have heard about the "Satanic Verses." Do you know what those are? According to the Muslim religion, the Qur'an is the final revelation of God. All it's words are the unchangeable words of God. The "Satanic Verses," however, are a set of four verses that were written one way, then changed to read something completely different. That sort of kills the idea that the Qur'an is the pure, unchangable word of God, doesn't it.

Mohammad was just a man who came up with the Qur'an. It simply is not possible that this book is the word of God.

Government to Monitor Babies

Yes, more news with one purpose: to expand government massively and as quickly as possible. This one really is a two-fer crisis -- it's about health AND "For The Children (TM)."

This new study, paid for with unwilling taxpayer cash, claims that there are 1,500,000 children who have high blood pressure and don't know it -- implying that they will die any minute. One doctor, who wasn't even involved in the study, cried that this was a crisis that could not wait another minute. He actually said that "we" (that's the royal "we," meaning government and agents of the government paid by the government) need to immediately

sit down and go over family history, talk about diet, exercise and other potential treatments including medicine

for three year-olds. He's serious. He wants government to force all 3-year old children to come sit with him and talk about treatments.

America is no longer the land of the free. There are large groups and organizations, like the American Academy of Pediatrics that want to control you because they believe they are smarter than you and that you're too dumb to live without their help. And they're not afraid to use government and government's monopoly on force to get you to do their bidding.

Don't be surprised when they turn up testing your wastewater from your house to attempt to determine if you need help. Gee, don't you wish Hillary would hurry up and be crowned elected queen president so these doctors can have more power to tell us what to do?

NC Money Priorities

The roads in North Carolina are bad. Few people will disagree with that statement. We have roads in disrepair and a backlog of road upgrades and widening that the state allegedly cannot afford. The Democrat-led General Assembly continues to tell the peons people that there's just not enough money. They threaten to raise taxes to pay for roads because they just don't have the money.

They're blatant liars.

The Democrat's own state Department of Transportation estimates that this year there was a $40 million shortfall in roads spending (not including the shortfalls of every other year in the past 2 decades). At the same time, THIS YEAR, the Democrats in the Legislature voted to GIVE Goodyear $40 million. Seriously. The Democrats just told Goodyear, "Gee, we like you. If you stay open, we'll give you $40 million in cash."

Again, Democrats give $40 million to Goodyear and we're $40 million short on roads this year.

It's completely and totally wrong. This is the opposite of what a free government does. The people who support such a move claim it's an "investment" in jobs. They will point to the two thousand jobs that Goodyear provides and talk about how that's money given to "the community." Those people are anti-freedom socialists, whether they even know it or not. Government should NEVER be "investing" in, well, anything. That's not the function of a free society's government.

If Goodyear wants to move, let them move. Government should NEVER be in the business of determining which businesses they want to stay or which they want to go. That's NOT freedom, that's pure socialism. If this were a government based on freedom, the proper response would be, "I'm sorry, we don't have the authority to pick and choose which companies get huge piles of cash, so no one gets any. And besides, we need that money to provide government services -- like ROADS."

Remember when you vote -- Democrats in North Carolina honestly and seriously do NOT want to build roads. Instead, they want to control the means of production and decide which companies they will favor and which ones they dislike.

City Journal is the nations premier urban-policy magazine, the Bible of the new urbanism, as Londons Daily Telegraph puts it

Why not take a peek?

This edition features War and Peace studies -- including articles about why we should study war and why "Peace studies" are, well, nothing more than a government-supported racket.

Peace in Iraq

Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun

Come on, peace. Out there in the darkness, I really feel that peace is there. We can have peace. Sure, it will be difficult. Sure, it will require sacrifice. But how much sacrifice, and by whom? We can have peace right now if we surrender to Islam. How many people around the world are willing to do that? An awful lot, from what I read. But can we have peace without surrender?

Only for so long. In other words, we can stop fighting and continue resisting. We can stop attacking and simply defend. If that happens, the price will be high. The price will be death. Many people will be killed by the religion of peace -- but we'll have peace. Are you willing to pay that price, or would you rather obey the words of Mohammad in order to have peace?

Interestingly now, there appears to be only one candidate in the 2008 Presidential election campaign that wants peace and wants peace now. Hillary supports continued military action (today). McCain says pulling out is wrong. Democrats in Congress now say they will continue to fight. In fact, right now, there's only ONE candidate that wants to stop fighting in Iraq -- Ron Paul.

This could be quite an interesting campaign. If the American people, as the Democrats claim, are completely against this war, they will quickly unite behind Ron Paul. At this point, seriously, he is the ONLY presidential candidate that really wants to get out of Iraq now. I wonder if people will hear that message, or if his voice will be drowned out by all the other candidates -- who are ALL pro-war now.

Vick Twisting Words

Once again, public figures are allowed to use whatever words they want, regardless of the actual meaning of those words.

Now I realize what a public spectacle the case surrounding Michael Vick has become. If you live under a rock, perhaps you don't know that a very gifted and talented, but immature professional athlete has committed some serious crimes. These types of story always make the headline because people enjoy seeing the mighty fall. But did you see how the spin is going on this one?

Vick's lawyer (he's much too important to actually talk himself) claims that Vick will "accept full responsibility" for his actions. But at the same time, reports claim that he has accepted a "plea agreement." That means, in simple terms, he has agreed to plead guilty ONLY under certain conditions. That is NOT accepting full responsibility.

Then again, the entire concept of the word "responsibility" is lost on most Americans today. If Vick were truly willing to accept "full responsibility," he would simply go to the court and enter a guilty plea, then accept whatever the court imposes. THAT'S accepting responsibility. Instead, this looks much more like, "Gee, three other people are about to testify against me and I'll get caught, so I better agree to save the court some time and money by pleading guilty, but only if the prosecution agrees to not push certain punishments."

Then again, Vick is more important than the average person, so if he wants to define words to mean what he wants them to mean, we scum should just let him, right?

NC Democrats Fund LESS Roads

While North Carolina's roads get worse -- now rated in the top 10 in the country for horrible roads -- the Democrats who rule the North Carolina Legislature continue to spend less. As pointed out in that report, in 2007 the Democrats REDUCED funding for roads by over $217 million. That's a cut of over $217 million in roads. That's $217 million that should have been spent on roads that the Democrats voted to NOT spend on roads. And the Department of Transportation estimates only a $65 million shortfall in roads.

Gee, you mean if Democrats had NOT cut road projects, we wouldn't have a shortfall? Once again, North Carolina Democrats show that they are simply fiscally irresponsible with money that YOU earn.

So, what are Democrats doing with that money they should be spending on roads, but they're not? Well, they spent $40 million on fishery projects. Yes, instead of roads, we'll spend $4 million deepening Wilmington harbor. We'll spend hundreds of thousands on various "studies" of the Neuse River, Surf City Beach, West Onslow Beach, and Dare County Beaches. We'll ensure lots of congestion (increasing pollution from idling cars) so we can spend hundreds of thousands on aquatic plant control in Lake Gaston. And instead of finishing roads that would make transportation better for everyone, we'll spend $20 million taking land off the tax rolls and buying up beach front property, completely interfering with the free market because, well, because Democrats in North Carolina simply don't care about reality.

These Democrats have been in charge for literally over 100 years. They continue to rule this state with an iron fist. So any and every problem created by government, especially the horrible road system, is completely and totally the fault of North Carolina Democrats. Perhaps it's time for a change. One-party rule in North Carolina shows that this sort of system is nothing but trouble -- especially for freedom and the free market.

Jason Bourne vs. Johnny English

Sorry, this is NOT a post to discuss which James Bond is the coolest, or whether Chuck Norris could beat Jack Bauer (he could). Instead, just a quick note on a couple spy movies.

I don't see many movies. In fact, it is a rare year when I watch more than two in the entire year. It's just not that common. And it's not because I'm trying to make a political statement against Hollywood or actors (they would NOT get it). I just don't see many movies. But in the past week I saw two spy movies: The Bourne Ultimatum and Johnny English. If you're looking for a good spy movie, I'd suggest Johnny English.

Yes, I realize Bourne is making millions. And I know the actors there are using that cash to crush freedom -- and I'd be willing to bet that the irony of using capitalism and freedom to destroy freedom never dawns on those doing it.

Besides all those points, I'd suggest Johnny English simply because of the story. In the Bourne Ultimatum, pure evil is one thing, and one thing only: America. Not only is America completely and totally evil; not only is America the protagonist; but this movie is so twisted that even the HERO turns out to be utterly and totally evil America. That was very disappointing.

It was especially disappointing considering the movie had absolutely nothing to do with the book. The book was much, much better -- evil was an evil person and NOT America. In Johnny English, the protagonist is a silly Frenchman megalomaniac. I'd much rather watch a movie with an individual who is evil than a movie that completely and totally paints anyone and anything associated with America as evil. But apparently I'm rather alone in my opinion. That's sad.

Gun Exchange

They're still doing these things? I thought by now common sense had taken over and people realized that "guns for ..." well, anything was nothing but stupidity. Then again, since liberalism still lives, things like this will certainly continue. After all, these "gun exchanges" are a true example of total style over substance.

In this particular article, a person traded in a missile launcher for a pair of sneakers (which YOU paid for). These stupid, taxpayer money wasting events are supposed to "get guns off the streets." Others claim they make the streets safer because there will be less guns on the street. So, how many people honestly think that we're safer because this fellow turned in his rocket launcher? Seriously.

Do you think he was planning on using the darn thing? Do you think he was getting ready to fire at the police station, but at the last minute thought, "gee, I can turn this thing in for a pair of sneakers. I think I'd rather have those!" Incredibly, those people who support these things (and FORCE you to pay for them with your money) actually do.

Instead, do you think it's more likely that this missile launcher had already been used? There's a lot of people that think there was a US Airliner shot down in NY years ago using a missile launcher. What a perfect way to get rid of any evidence against you, huh?

The vast majority of guns that are turned into these stupid events are either broken or tainted. Even having such a system in place gives criminals a perfect way to get rid of any firearm used in a crime without any chance of punishment. What a great system we have, huh?

Gun trade-ins do less than nothing to reduce crime -- instead they're more likely to give people a way to get away with a crime than have someone not commit a crime. But that is classic liberalism -- it feels good, so they do it -- no matter what the real consequences might be.

More Useless Government

By now I'm sure most people know about the evil Dean, hurricane extrodinaire. Well, since Katrina's Democrat disaster was blamed completely on Bush (since he created the hurricane, after all), Bush is moving quickly. Even though according to all forecasts there's a zero percent chance of the hurriance striking anywhere NEAR Texas, Bush has started giving them billions of dollars.

What total and complete BS. You there, in North Dakota, you now must give money (and if you don't, you'll be jailed or killed) to people in Texas because a hurricane is going to hit Mexico. What's next, giving cash to New York when a thunderstorm hits Kansas?

Go ahead, try to explain to me government is good. I dare you.
