Weekend News Briefs

I saw a lot of interesting news this weekend. I don't have a lot to say about any one of these, but here's a few comments on a few of the events:

1. Turkish Airliner Hijacking Ends in Surrender. This one didn't make much news, did it? Two men hijacked a plane. The two hijackers were "protesting against the United States." So who did this? It's not racial profiling to report the words of the hijackers, is it? "We are Muslims."

2. A lot of noise was made about the Arkansas Law that's a "mistake." What's the horrible mistake? That the legislature accidentally gave away a little bit of freedom. Don't worry, the legislators are scrambling around, working hard to grab back that tiny bit of freedom they let escape. You see, they allowed parents to supervise their children. Again, don't worry, they WILL take that freedom back as soon as they possibly can. Can't have people being free, can we? No, they don't give any reason for not allowing the freedom.

3. New evidence that marijuana has good effects. I'm rather surprised this one slipped through the censors editors. It just won't do for people to think that there's actually some good uses for any substance that the government has deemed to be evil.

4. Call me callus, but from the details that have been released, I'm not sure why this guy has to go to jail. I think he just needs to get a good jury (that has the guts to obey the law and not the judge) and he'll go free. After all, if you had a 17-year old daughter and found a 19-year old boy in her room, what would you do? Perhaps there's more details, but on it's face this looks like a crime of passion type thing.

More Free Cash!

You working people need to work a little bit harder today. Oh, and you can be a little bit less responsible. Don't worry, because the state of North Carolina is going to take your money and spend it more property for you, because you're just not smart enought to spend it how you should. Oh, and it's "For The Children," so it's perfectly okay and Constitutional. Maybe you weren't aware that clause was added in all Constitutions, but apparently it's there. It says something like, "And any legislature can do anything they want if it's 'For the Children.'"

This time it's even more socialist-style health care. Keep in mind, this is the same system that makes people wait months or years for service. This is the same system that people flee from whenever they want good service. Socialized health care absolutely stinks anywhere and everywhere it's tried.

But Democrats who run North Carolina honestly don't care. You see, they have the money and the power, so they know that the legislators will always have the best health care -- they'll just take more of your money to ensure that. If everyone else suffers because they want to provide "health care" for "underinsured children," well you're scum if you oppose them.

No, Democrats in North Carolina have no use for freedom. They actively oppose it at every turn. If you want freedom, you will have to head somewhere else. I'd suggest The Free State.

The Emotional Conservative

How about a political game for Saturday?

In politics, emotions always win. That's just the way it is. When you scream "for the children," that's a winner every single time. Don't believe me? Look how much money is spent on education and look at the zero results that money is getting us.

However, Democrats win because they're using emotions. With the Iraq war, look at how the issues are framed. Pro-war people talk about things that are saved and good -- but anti-war people talk about the "innocent" deaths. Anti-war wins. Typically conservatives tend to use logic and facts to present their ideas. Typically socialists and leftists use emotions.

So here's the game:

See how many emotional arguments you can come up with to support genuinely conservative positions. You can't outright lie, but you can really, really, really stretch the truth a lot to play on people's emotions. Who can come up with the most heart-wrenching reason that will convince millions of people to absolutely support your position because to do otherwise would kill babies (or something equally bad)?

Feel free to give it a shot here in the comments or post something on your blog, should you have one. If you post elsewhere, please post a link to your post in the comments here, since the trackbacks aren't working.

Have at it!

NC Turnpike Authority

Oh, this is just great. This story REALLY illustrates how utterly out of control and out of touch with reality the Democrat-led North Carolina General Assembly really is.

You see, the Democrats recently created a "turnpike authority" to take money from working people build toll roads. Why? Because the Democrats in the General Assembly have been completely and utterly irresponsible regarding road building in North Carolina and they're now billions of dollars behind. So instead of doing something responsible, like using tax money raised for roads to actually build roads, the Democrats instead created a new government agency to build roads -- and they didn't fund it.

So now we have to pay dozens of new bureaucrats with money we don't have to build roads with money they don't have. Meanwhile, Democrats continue to waste money on their own pet projects, and continue to take gas taxes and use them for, well, whatever they feel like.

Even worse, since the new government bureaucracy doesn't have any money because the legislature didn't give them any, they're trying to borrow money! Yes, because the Democrats are irresponsible in spending and don't want to reduce their personal pet projects to build roads (one of the few things government SHOULD do), they simply created MORE bureaucracy so they could BORROW the money!

This really is the height of total reckless and irresponsible spending. These Democrats should be fired. These people are morally bankrupt and cannot be trusted with $10 of our money, much less $20 billion. But they won't be because they get to make the rules. They simple cannot be fired because they draw the districts. Go ahead, try and convince me we are free to vote for anyone we want.

No, Democrats in North Carolina are horrible. They are completely and totally fiscally irresponsible. And they can continue to be because they maintain their hold on power, even if they have to cheat and break the law to do it.

Government vs. Government

As usual, when government gets too big, it can only fight against itself. This is in regards to the recent story that the census bureau it trying to tell Homeland Security to "suspend enforcement raids." Oh, they're just doing their job, of course.

Two quick points--

First, why just Homeland Security? The Census Bureau is literally telling a law enforcement agency to stop enforcing the law. Why just that one? Why not tell the sheriffs to stop serving warrants on people because they might not answer the door? Why not tell police departments to stop "bothering" bank robbers because the Census Bureau wants to count them? It seems a little dishonest to tell law enforcement to just stop enforcing one law and not all the others. What about "equal protection under the law?"

Second, aren't they asking Homeland Security to do what they're already doing? Is there anyone left out there that honestly believes that there is ANY attempt at ANY border enforcement at all? Most large cities encourage illegal invaders from Mexico. Bush and his branch of government actively discourage border patrol agents from doing their job. Those who think that Homeland Security is currently conducting "enforcement raids" are living in a fantasy land.

But, this is what you get when government grows too big. And the whole Census Bureau is another game altogether. Just remember -- if the bureacratic bums come to your door, the ONLY answer you are required to give is the number of people in your house. Don't answer any other questions, no matter what they claim. And don't feel sorry for the "poor" census taker who is "only doing his job." So were the Nazi guards (why do I keep hearing about "only doing my job" over and over these days?)

Denounce Jesus or Go To Jail

This is the clear message being sent today, around the world. While you expect such actions from the Muslim world, where they kill you if you don't renounce Jesus and accept Allah, you don't always expect this from the more civilized nations. But it's happening more and more.

First up, here is what Senator Kennedy and 43 of his billionaire buddies (including Obama and Clinton) want to see in America: Police harassment and possible punishment for suggesting you, personally, don't completely and totally approve of everything "gay." This is in relation to Senate Bill 1105, which would basically make you a criminal if you speak out in any way against homosexuality. Me simply printing this:

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

or this:
Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Could get me locked up and put away. But the Democrats want what they want and they don't care who they have to jail, hurt, or kill to get their way. 44 United States Senators think that it's just fine to jail me for printing those words.

Next up, how about the East Penn School District. If you dare to say a prayer in school to Jesus, you're tossed out. But if you write a book that says "F- Jesus," then that's not only okay, that's REQUIRED reading for the 10th-graders. In this government school, loving Jesus gets you thrown out; but hating Jesus gets you cash royalties.

Finally, it's off to Canada where the latest massive persecution of Christians is taking place in a more "civilized" way. In Roxton Falls, the government there has told residents that they must force their children to renounce Jesus, or the children will be taken away from the parents. How do you like them apples? The people are doing the only thing they can, they're running from the persecution -- they're moving. However, I'm not sure there's a lot of places left in the world where you can move and be free to raise your children as a Christian.

Just imagine, if you can, being told by armed agents of the government that if you do not FORCE your children to renounce Jesus, then the government agents will use deadly force to take your children away from you so that the government agents can force your children to renounce Jesus. The only real difference between Roxton Falls and ancient Rome is that they're not throwing the believers to the lions. Instead, they're taking their children. I wonder how far behind burning the heretics at the stake will be.

Well, it is written that "all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, while evil men and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceivers and deceived." I think we're just seeing it more and more today in countries where it used to not be common.

Jesus did say,

Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you

The blessings continue and expand in today's world -- in Canada, Pennsylvania, and in the United States Senate. I just wish more people would be honest and admit they just don't like Christians.

NC Government Takes MORE

The Democrat-led North Carolina government has once again shown that they honestly do not understand freedom. They have shown that they honestly do not care about freedom, and instead consider their own personal desires more important than anyone else in the state. Of course, they claim it's for "the public good," but then again, that's why Hitler starting killing the Jews, wasn't it?

So how much money have the Democrats of North Carolina decided to take from people who work and earn it this time? An infinite amount. Literally. They agreed to take $50 million from people who earn it this year; $50 million from them next year; and $50 million every year forever. That's $500 million in 10 years. That's forever. You who work in North Carolina must work harder, because your "Democratically" elected selected representatives just promised to take away more money from you for as long as you live.

Oh, but it's okay because it's "For the Children." And cancer. And it's "only" $50 million a year -- forever. And yes, socialists love the plan and claim it's "visionary." Now while that's not on Harvey's List of Liberal code words, it probably should be.

So next time you think you're free in North Carolina, just take a peek at that paycheck you're getting. The line labeled "gross pay" is how much you earned. The government took the rest from you to give to their personal causes. That's not freedom.

Allah and Peace

I'm quite sure by now that everyone who isn't living under a rock (and even those of us who are) has heard of the bishop who says that we should all worship Allah to "ease tensions." Others more knowledgeable than I have written volumes condemning this bishop. I've seen no official reaction from the Catholic church. But I think I understand Bishop Tiny Muskens.

All Bishop Muskens wants is peace. And he's willing to do anything in the name of peace. Unfortunately, this simply won't work.

Look, I want peace, too. I very much want peace. I will not, however, do anything in order to get peace. This Bishop believes that if he can "build a bridge" between Christians and Muslims, then there will be peace between them. However, he comes from a Christian point of view and truly does not understand the state of mind of the Muslim. If you look at the reaction of the Muslim world to his statement, notice what you see:

Seriously. The only response from the Muslims in this Bishop's own country has been that they didn't ask for this. In other words, according to Muslims themselves, this action does absolutely nothing to appease the Muslims nor make peace with the religion of Islam.

However, in one thing, I think the Bishop may be right. The Bishop thinks that within 100 years, all Dutch churches will be using the name "Allah" for God. The way things are going now, that will be the case -- it's called "Dhimmitude." This is the process in which non-Muslims are permitted to live in countries ruled by Islam. Under this situation, ALL citizens are subject to all aspects of the Quran, no matter what your religion. It's a term used when a country has been conquered by Muslims -- to describe the losers in that battle.

In another area, however, I think this Bishop is way off. Now this Bishop is a Catholic. For those who aren't familiar with the Catholic religion, they believe that only priests are qualified to read the Bible and determine it's meaning. Therefore, technically, if you follow the Catholic religion, you're supposed to take the Bishop's word for whatever he says is in the Bible. If you're Christian, you can read the Bible yourself.

The Bishop claims that God doesn't care what you call him. The Bishop says it's okay to call God "Allah" because it just doesn't matter. However, if you read the Bible, the biggest reference to God's name is in Exodus 3:

Moses said to God, If I go to the Israelites and tell them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me, What is his name? what should I say to them?

God said to Moses, I am that I am.

I don't read anywhere where it says, "Gee, Moses, just call me whatever you want. I don't really care." It doesn't say, "You know, my name really is Allah, but you Jewish people can just call me anything." I don't see, "Call me anything, just don't call me late for dinner." That's simply not what it says. Personally, I think God is above being named by mere morals. He just IS.

But personal religion aside, again, I think this Bishop is misguided. He honestly believes that by appeasing the Muslims that there will be peace today. I want there to be peace -- but this Bishop is willing to give up everything for peace -- including his own religion. Please take careful note of the response of the Muslims world to these actions -- THEY DON'T CARE. In other words, simply calling God "Allah" is NOT advancing peace in any way, shape or form -- it's simply surrendering to the religion of Islam.

Support this Bishop and his actions if you like -- but be prepared to follow all the tenets of Sharia Law if you do.

Ron Paul Undercounted?

So, did anyone else notice that the person who "certified" the results of the Iowa Straw Poll was a member of Mitt Romney's Leadership team? How about a little math on the Straw Poll (provided via Steve Watson of Infowars.net):

FUZZY MATH #1
So we know from the state Auditor that one problem machine contained 500 votes. Assuming most machines contained a similar pattern of use, then they should also contain about the same number of votes. 60 (machines) x 500 = 30,000 votes. That is more than TWICE as many as the official count. Based on a total vote count of 14,301, if all machines were used about equally, then the average number of votes per machine SHOULD have been 238 {14,301 (total votes) / 60 (machines) = 238 votes per machine}. What are the odds that one of the machines that malfunctioned and actually gave up an audited vote tally would contain TWICE as many votes as the average machine? But it gets worse

FUZZY MATH #2
State Auditor David Vaudt (who unofficially certified the vote count) said that there were only 2 machines out of the 60 that were inconsistent (paper printout vs. electronic tabulation) and needed to be recounted. Mary Tiffany of the Iowa GOP said that a total of approximately 1500 votes were re-fed into the Diebold machines. Since we know that there were only two machines that were a problem and one of them contained 500 votes, then the second machine must have contained about 1000 ballots, which is more than FOUR TIMES what the average machine should contain based on a total vote of 14,301. It seems more likely that there were actually 3 problem machines, and the true average per machine was about 500 votes, which would have resulted in a total vote of about 30,000 which is twice the official total vote count.

Though it was reported that "there were nothing but Ron Paul signs in the crowd" and that his campaign signs lined the highways and streets leading into Ames, Iowa, Paul came in fifth place behind Romney, Huckabee, Brownback and Tancredo.

Some exit polls also suggested that Ron Paul had actually WON the poll outright, before the final result was announced.

Sounds pretty shady to me. Just imagine the absolute SHOCK waves that would reverberate around the country if Ron Paul had actually won that poll...

Another detail from Vote in the Sunshine: their exit polling gave quite contradictory results to the "official" voting results. Exit polling showed these results:

Ron Paul 37%
Mike Huckabee 21%
Tom Tancredo 17%
Mitt Romney 10%
Sam Brownback 7%
Tommy Thompson 4%
Duncan Hunter 1%
John McCain 1%
Fred Thompson 0%
John Cox 0%
Rudy Giuliani 0%
Hillary Clinton 0% (1 vote)
Dennis Kucinich 0% (1 vote)

That's awful different than the Mitt-Romney Campaign Manager who counted the votes, isn't it?

Go ahead, fit me for the tinfoil hat, but something looks awful fishy here.

Jessica's Law in NC

A press release from Jessica's Law Now NC:

Join Jessicas Law Now North Carolina help makes Jessicas Law a reality for N.C.

Jessicas Law Now North Carolina is grateful for the recent passage of the North Carolina House of HB 933 Jessica Lunsford Act aka. Jessicas Law. We are appreciative of Representative Tim Moores, hard work towards making this happen. As commendatory, as we feel over getting over this hurtle, we are still at a crossroads with HB 933, The Jessica Lunsford Act. After the North Carolina House passed HB 933 Jessica Lunsford Act, it was forwarded to [S] Ref Judiciary I Committee (Civil). If favorable, it would re-ref to the Appropriations/Base Budget.

Jessicas Law Now North Carolina, as a group, we were hopeful that Senator Martin L. Nesbitt, Jr. Chairman of the [S] Judiciary I Committee would help HB 933 Jessica Lunsford Act to move forward into becoming law. Sadly this did not occur. Several concerned members of the North Carolina House well as the North Carolina Senate tried their best, but politics simply just got in the way.

Jessicas Law Now North Carolina is asking for your help, you can assist us by contacting the members of the Judiciary I Committee. Request that the members use this short session to help move forward HB 933, The Jessica Lunsford Act, so the Senate can vote and hopefully will pass this into law.

On the extended page (click the post title) is a list of all members of the Judiciary I Committee, along with all their contact information.

Thank you,

Police State, FL

I know that when many of you read that title, you get turned off. I know some will read that title and think, "Oh, here goes that radical right-wing lunatic yelling that the sky is falling." Those of you who think that, please read on just a little bit more. I'm going to provide you a statement from a police officer in Florida, and I want you to think about it just for a moment:

When we tell someone to stop doing something and they say no, it becomes a battle of the wills, and our will will always win.

Those are the words of Police Sgt. Bill Pecci of Stuart, FL.

Please, just think and reflect for a moment on those words. Imagine a police officer saying them to you.

A policeman tells you to stop, and if you don't, you're jailed -- no matter what you're doing.

This case is about a policeman telling a woman to stop writing with chalk. No, she wasn't writing anything obscene, she was just writing. She was not harming anyone. She was not blocking traffic. She was not interfering with anyone. She was minding her own business, writing with chalk. The policeman apparently didn't like what she was writing, so it's off to jail for her. Seriously -- 60 days in jail for not listening to a policeman telling her to not write in chalk on the sidewalk.

She hasn't been convicted yet, but the police department and the prosecutor are continuing to attempt to have her jailed for disobeying the police officer.

Again, she did no harm to anyone. She didn't bother anyone. Heck, there's not even any reports that she "offended" someone. Instead, just because she disobeyed the police officer, she may be in jail.

Think about that next time you see a police officer. Think about that next time someone says the words, "police state." Disobey ANY request of an officer at your own risk. Yes, that IS a police state.

Viguerie on Rove

Richard Viguerie on Karl Roves Resignation:
Good News for Conservatives

(Manassas, Virginia) The following is a statement from Richard A. Viguerie, author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause (Bonus Books, 2006), on the resignation of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove:

Karl Roves departure from the White House is good news for conservatives. We maymayhave a more conservative Bush presidency with Rove back in Texas.

As President Bushs chief political advisor, Karl Rove was a master in the care and feeding of conservative leaders, keeping them mostly silent as the Republican Party moved Left during the Bush presidency.

He used the usual carrot and stick to do this. The carrot was access to the White Houseand conservative leaders proved just as vulnerable as others to the lure of a photo op with the President, lunch in the West Wing, or a returned phone call from Karl Rove. The stick was fearspeak out, and not only will you lose any hope of access, you will be branded as an extremist, or someone whos helping the Democrats by speaking out.

Using both carrot and stick, Karl Rove was able to silence or get the support of most conservative leaders as President Bush and congressional Republicans greatly expanded the size and reach of the federal government, including (but certainly not limited to)

* No Child Left Behind
* McCain-Feingold
* Prescription drug benefits
* Nation-building on a scale never attempted before
* Farm subsidies
* Steel tariffs
* Massive federal deficits

Yes, Karl Rove was a political geniushe was, after all, the successful architect of Bushs election in 2000 and reelection in 2004. But as the Presidents chief policy advisor, Rove was the architect of George W. Bushs betrayal of the conservative cause.

Karl Roves biggest failure was to leave the White House without achieving his stated goal of establishing the Republicans as Americas permanent governing party. To even mention that todayafter the 2006 elections, President Bushs plummeting poll numbers, and the GOPs bleak prospects for 2008brings embarrassment or laughter, depending on your political viewpoint. No wonder Karl Rove wants to forget about those boasts.

Rove failed in that goal primarily because he attempted to advance the Republican Party by using raw, naked political power and bribing voters. He copied the Democrats and was more successful than themfor a while. But then conservatives and independents caught on to his game. We started rebelling, first over Harriet Miers and most recently over the amnesty bill. Meanwhile, the Republican Party had lost its brand as the party of small government.

How do we recover from the Rove Era? We have to reject the bribing of voters and instead build on President Reagans legacy. We must re-establish the conservative movement (and the Republican Party, if it wishes to survive) as the movement and party of ideas, empowering people instead of government, and with a strong national defense but no more nation-building.

Bushs brain will soon be gone. Lets hope that wiser counsel prevails in the White House in the future, but lets not depend on that. We conservatives have work to do.

MN Bridge Affects NC

Since Democrats are in charge of the legislature, and have been for over 100 years, I'm sure you can imagine how this effects North Carolina. Keep in mind, Democrats are the ones who are completely and 100% responsible for the current spending on all North Carolina roads. They're out of session now, but some people are calling for them to go back to "emergency session" to deal with this problem. What are the suggested solutions?

1. Raise taxes on everyone in the country. The author of the opinion piece wants more money to come from everyone else via thugs in Washington. However, the author admits this would be pretty hard to do.

2. Stop transfers from the highway fund. This is the only logical answer. For over a decade, the Democrats in Raleigh vote each and every year to take money that was specifically collected to fund roads and give that money away to other things (welfare, Medicare, etc.). They do this EVERY YEAR, despite the poor conditions of our roads.

3. Use highway money for highways. Many of you might be saying, "Duh" at this one. But Democrats in the legislature simply aren't doing it. They are taking money that's supposed to be spent on highways and just giving it away for whoever will vote for them other purposes.

4. Raise taxes. A lot. The author suggests raising the gas tax by at least 18.5 cents. As he mentions, that's not going to be real popular. However, that's the ONLY tax solution that actually makes sense. Sure, it's really bad because the reason we have a problem is because the Democrats, for decades, have been utterly and totally irresponsible with spending gas tax money -- but now we're going to have to pay for them being irresponsible. In this case, those who use the roads will have to pay to fix them. That's fair in a way, but an insanely bad idea because people won't like that.

5. Raise county property taxes by 21%. Oh yeah, that's going to be REAL popular. This would allow counties to build more roads since the Democrats who run the state are so bad at it. If you want to see some really mad voters, go ahead and go down this road.

6. Use the general fund (and raise taxes to replace the money). This is probably the best solution. This would punish those who have been irresponsible (North Carolina Democrats) by taking away their personal money (the taxpayer general fund) and put it back where it was supposed to be. This would fully fund the roads and force Democrats to rein in their pork spending. Unfortunately, it's likely that it wouldn't work -- Democrats would simply take a billion out of the general fund, then complain they didn't have enough for education, and they'd just vote to raise income taxes and sales taxes again.

7. Raise taxes via toll roads. This is one of the worst solutions. Toll roads create nothing but more bureaucratic nightmares, massively exploding and expansive government, and horrible traffic jams -- which is why it's probably the most likely solution that Democrats will choose.

Yes, North Carolina roads are bad. Don't forget that they're bad BECAUSE of North Carolina Democrats, who have been spending irresponsibly for decades. It's going to cost money to fix -- the only question remaining is who will be punished (via taxes) for the irresponsible Democrats' actions.
