New Employee Test

Put 400 bricks in a closed room.
Put your new hires in the room and close the door.
Leave them alone and come back after 6 hours.
Then analyze the situation:

If they are counting the bricks,
put them in the Accounting Department.

If they are recounting them,
put them in Auditing.

If they have messed up the whole place with the bricks,
put them in Engineering.

If they are arranging the bricks in some strange order,
put them in Planning.

If they are throwing the bricks at each other,
put them in Operations.

If they are sleeping,
put them in Security.

If they have broken the bricks into pieces and are analyzing them,
put them in Information Technology.

If they are sitting idle,
put them in Human Resources.

If they say they have tried different combinations, they are looking for more,
yet not a brick has been moved,
put them in Sales.

If they have already left for the day,
put them in Management.

If they are staring out of the window,
put them in Strategic Planning.

If they are talking to each other, and not a single brick has been moved, congratulate them and
put them in Top Management.

Finally, if they have surrounded themselves with bricks in such a way
that they can neither be seen nor heard from,
put them in Congress.

Duncan Hunter on Free Republic

So, did you see the live thread of Duncan Hunter on Free Republic? You should go read it if you want to know more about this candidate for president. A few quotes from the thread for those who don't want to read it all, but want to know what sort of positions Mr. Hunter has:

I reject Al Gores and others doomsday alarmism on the subject. [man-made global warming]

As, President I will build the border fence, all 854 miles, in six months.

During this time I gained the insight that the Hispanic community in the U.S. is not aided by open borders, but rather their wages are the first to be lowered when cheap illegal labor flows across the border.

I like homeschooling because it offers a clear choice for parents who want to impart values and knowledge to their children. I would substantially cut the bureaucracy in the Department of Education, top to bottom.

I would eliminate such programs as National Endowment for the Arts and dozens of programs identified in the Bush Administrations cut list. (These include programs from HUD, the Departments of Justice, Labor, Energy, Agriculture, Commerce, Transportation, Interior, HHS, DHS, and the EPA).

[I]n the past I have opposed the Law of the Sea Treaty. I expect that to continue.

Any group that acts as an apologist for terrorism and attempts to undermine legitimate US law enforcement activities, will not get an ear in a Hunter Whitehouse.

Go read more if you like. Not bad, huh?

Kill More Babies

Harvard University decides that lethal injections for newborns is better than risking violating the law. And strangely enough, lethal injections for newborns isn't against the law.

This is in response to the partial birth abortion ban. You see, previously "doctors" would deliver an "unwanted" baby and then kill it. The partial-birth abortion ban is a law that says that doctors are simply not allowed to do that any more. So in order to make sure no doctor is guilty of allowing an "unwanted" baby to see the light of day, they're now using potassium chloride -- the same thing used in lethal injections of criminals -- and injecting babies in the womb.

Yes, the same people who claim that it's "cruel and unusual" to inject mass murderers and rapists with a drug that kills them are now supporting injecting innocent, unborn babies with that very same drug. Wow. And these people are called "doctors." Just, wow.

Well, there's some people who want to do something about this -- likely the only real solution, too. They're going to pray about it -- for 40 days. I think I'll join them.

Anti-Freedom "Win" in NC?

Gary Robertson has written an article titled, "Smoking Foes Still Win in 2007." A more accurate title would be "Freedom loses again in NC." If you're a self-proclaimed "smoking foe," you ARE anti-freedom, whether you want to admit it or not.

The article talks about "health advocates" (read: people who want to control your life and tell you what you should have the freedom to do) and their optimism in reducing smoking (or decreasing your choices to be free). The article goes on to describe how people are "more health conscious." That's not quite true -- if you force someone to do something, you haven't changed their mind, you've just used force or the threat of force to convince them to do something.

One of the few representatives who may understand a little about how government is supposed to work, Rep. Nelson Cole of Rockingham County said that restaurant owners already have the freedom to ban smoking if they want to. But he still supported banning smoking just about everywhere else. Smoking outdoors was banned in only a few places, not the entire state -- just yet.

Look, if smoking is so bad, make it illegal. Seriously. This crap about banning it in some private places and some public places is just wrong. Where can one smoke today? Well, you can't really tell any more. Sometimes smoking outdoors is a crime, sometimes it's not. And studies still have shown that there are no serious adverse effects to second-hand smoke -- yet that's still sold as a way to reduce freedom.

If you, personally, don't like smoking, that's fine. Don't smoke. But you are absolutely destroying freedom by telling others that they cannot smoke. That's just wrong. But then, North Carolina today is not a place where freedom is welcome.

Duncan Hunter in Iowa

So, did you see how Duncan Hunter fared in Iowa? Me neither. I read dozens of reports about how wonderful Romney is for buying the win there, but every report left out mention of Duncan Hunter. After searching for literally a couple days, I finally found the results of the Straw Poll:

Mitt Romney: 4,516 votes (32%)
Mike Huckabee: 2,587 votes (18%)
Sam Brownback: 2,192 votes (15%)
Tom Tancredo: 1,961 votes (14%)
Ron Paul: 1,305 votes (9%)
Tommy Thompson: 1,039 votes (7%)
Fred Thompson: 203 votes (1%)
Rudy Giuliani: 183 votes (1%)
Duncan Hunter: 174 votes (1%)
John McCain: 101 votes (1%)
John Cox: 41 votes (0%)

While I won't go into the actual value of a straw poll where the politicians buy votes, one thing stands out to me. The supposed purpose of the straw poll is to raise money for the Iowa Republican Party. However, from all that I've read, most of the money comes from the candidates. So the candidates are giving money to the Republican Party that then turns around and spends getting candidates elected? Sure, that makes sense.

However, I was surprised by the strong showing of Tancredo and Ron Paul. I was also surprised by the poor showing by Duncan Hunter. If you want to see what Hunter said at the polls, view here and here.

Unions Stink

If you've read this site for any period of time, you know my position on unions. In case you don't, I'll outline it in brief for you: Unions suck. Sure, there was a time in American history when they made sense. Today unions are nothing more than political machines designed to make money for themselves and protect themselves from competition by exploiting others at any expense.

Here's an example -- from the Boston "janitor's" union:

Rosalia Minas, 41, said she is barely able to support her two children on her part-time job cleaning a building in the Financial District and had to pick up a second job.

That's what these slimeballs are after -- free cash. So, how much money do you think you should make to raise two children? Is $50,000 a year enough? Maybe we should be safe and call it $75,000. Now this greedy, miserable SOB wants to earn that much PART TIME. So she is honestly asking for $75 AN HOUR to sweep the floor. Seriously, that's what the union is asking for in this case! Gee, how many of you would work for $75 an hour, 20 hours a week, sweeping floors?

Slimy, greedy, miserable bums, the lot of them.

If you want money, how about working and earning it? If your job doesn't pay enough, how about trying to find another job? Gee, don't have the skills to be a brain surgeon? How about going to school? Oh, gee, you have kids to support? Maybe you should have thought about that before you had those kids -- the stork didn't bring them, you know? And by the way, Miss Minas, where's their father? Huh?

Sorry, I have no pity at all for someone who marches in the street to demand more for nothing. Worse, since this is in Massachusetts, I bet the government gives them their raise. Lots more money for doing absolutely nothing -- only government can achieve this feat.

I reiterate -- unions have no purpose today. You want to form one, you go ahead. However, don't try and stop me from crushing them.

The Lone Protester

The Lone Protester continues his campaign. If you forget who this is, it's a South Carolina man who was arrested while protesting illegal aliens committing a crime in progress. Yes, while the police were arresting him for protesting, he pointed out illegals in the process of committing crimes. He was arrested and the illegals continue their "work."

Terry Funderburk (the Lone Protester) says:

How is it that the political parties in this great country of ours, which prides itself as a nation of laws forget that they serve at the will of the people? How is it that they can control the system to the extent that they determine that certain of our laws will not be enforced? Who in this country has the authority to exceed the limits of the Constitution? How is it that these same parties can allow America to be invaded by millions upon millions of illegal aliens from other countries, totally against the wishes of a huge majority of Americans and in violation of the Constitution.
How can they allow our great foundations that were established 231 years ago to become so corrupted? How can they rip the Constitution to shreds, tear apart the Declaration of Independence and forget the Bill of Rights? How can they completely destroy everything our country was built upon? How can these two political parties so effectively and completely alter the future of this country and almost destroy the fabric of American society?
How is it that the American people can sit idly by and watch these once great political parties become so corrupt as to ignore the rule of law? Where are our great foundations of justice, the Bill of Rights, our local courts, the Supreme Court, indeed our entire legal system when the American people are in dire need of them? Where are our law enforcement institutions, local, state and federal when the American people need them? They are supposed to be the American citizens' first line of defense and they have been willfully negligent in their assigned responsibilities.
Why has government of all levels abdicated their responsibilities to the citizens of this country? Why does the will of the American people not matter anymore to certain people and parties in this country? How can we as Americans allow certain groups to so control our future that they are well on the way to destroying this once great country?
It is time for change. It is time for we Americans to take back our once great country. It is time we begin to set things right again. It is time for us to repair the damage these people and parties have done to us. It is time for us to rid ourselves of corrupt officials at all levels that totally control the system to the extent that the will of the American people are ignored and our laws are not enforced. It is time for us to hold our law enforcement officials at all levels to the oath that they swore to when they took those positions. To demand of them that they will not ignore certain laws. To demand of them to enforce all laws fairly and equally. Simply enforce our laws under the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and every other law in the land.
It is time for a change in this great country. It is time for the American people to start getting angry about the great problems facing us and at the ones who are responsible for it. Angry at the ones whose solutions only erode this country more. It is time for the America people to take our country back. It is time for us to remember all of the great Americans that gave their lives, from the revolution to Iraq and Afghanistan, the ones who gave their everything. It is time to rid ourselves of politicians who have been in office so long that they think they own an inherited position. It is time to rid ourselves of politicians who have forgotten who this country actually belongs to. It belongs to us and we need to take it back. It is time for a change.

McHenry Fraud?

Patrick McHenry is my representative in Congress. When he won his primary election, he won by 85 votes. That was back in 2004. As is usual with North Carolina politics, once someone decides the vote is over, it's over. Therefore, he was pronounced the winner -- despite some rather serious allegations of voter fraud.

Now, 3 YEARS later, there's some people pleading guilty of voter fraud -- and apparently by having illegally voted for Patrick McHenry.

Now the McHenry campaign is claiming this was nothing but a political attempt to smear McHenry. However, Michael Lay was a legal resident of Tennessee when he voted for McHenry. That seems pretty darn clear to me. And Lay accepted a plea deal in the case. If he was not guilty, what's wrong with a "not guilty" plea? It's also known that McHenry brought in hundreds of campaign workers -- just like Lay -- for his campaign. Were there hundreds of illegal, felonious votes case for McHenry? Does anyone care?

In addition, Lay, the person who just admitted guilt (I think) is working for Bill Graham for governor -- recruiting college students to help. I wonder how many of those college students being recruited do not have a residence in North Carolina?

McHenry, Lay, and others are just making the filthy business of politics worse. Should McHenry resign? That's up to him and his conscience. However, to sit back and claim that he and his campaign did nothing wrong is, well, wrong. And for Bill Graham to continue to allow Lay to assist with his campaign after this incident can only hurt his campaign as well.

Ah, politics in North Carolina: total and complete filth from one end to the other.

A New Blog

Hey, want to read a brand-new shiny blog?

Go check out Periodically Correct:

I've always been politically minded but I do my best not to fall into any one camp. Walking lock-step behind anyone reminds me of lemmings running off a cliff. While I have no fear of heights I'm not too fond of the sudden stop at the bottom. So I choose to make my own mind up about things. Sometimes they're left, other times their right, frequently they'll make you think, "What orifice did he pull that idea out of?"

What else did you have to do today?

DRM Going the Way of Betamax?

I know indie music has been going against the grain as far as Digital Rights Management goes, but "Big Music" has always been opposed to free music. Now I have no problem with someone who creates something wanting to own it. I think that if a music company wants to protect copies of their property from being made, they should absolutely be able to.

But this is big news: Universal is going to start some distribution of music without DRM. This means that a person can buy one copy of the music and make as many copies as they like. Artists have decried this for years, because they fear that they will start losing money -- and with the internet, I don't see how they can be wrong.

Even if most people pay for their music, once legal copies are allowed, I can easily see many people posting on web sites copies of their music. And then how will artists get any money? Well, apart from record deals. And not including concerts. Or promotions. And not counting advertising deals. And music videos. I mean, these artists are going to start starving, aren't they?

Charlotte Panters Burden

Get ready, peons. Get ready to work harder and pay more. I hope you really like your Charlotte Carolina Panthers football team. You see, the 11-year old stadium is now "out of date." And since the NBA managed to bribe convince the taxpayers government to buy them a new stadium, the Panthers will not be far behind.

Why? Well, to listen to the team, there's 14 new stadiums that have been built, and Charlotte needs to "keep up." No, they don't say there's anything at all wrong with the current stadium, just that others are newer. Prepare for the campaigning for the next 3 years. Watch for yearly updates and comparisons. Watch for "complaints" from businesses. Watch for government claiming they could "create jobs" with a new stadium.

And then, watch for the "grassroots" movement (orchestrated by professional government bureaucrats) that will "rise up" to demand a stadium referendum. And then the threats of "moving" will begin. Since the team is named "Carolina," I expect to see Raleigh, NC and Columbia, SC to start "bidding" to encourage the team to move.

Bottom line? Hold on to your wallet, because yet another private enterprise is getting ready to demand cash that you have earned -- and there will be a heavily armed government ready to use massive force to take that money you earn and give it to these millionaires.

Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Carolina Ren Fest

It's almost time! The Carolina Renaissance Festival is coming. It starts this year on October 6th -- less than two months away now. Is it bad to be looking forward to this sort of event? Does it make me more of a geek (or is that nerd?)?

Unfortunately, I'll be out of town the first weekend (Oct 6-7), but I'll be there on more than a couple of the other weekends. If you have never been you really should make plans to attend. I really like it because it truly is an escape. You can spend the entire day pretending you're in another world. It's calm, it's peaceful, and you rarely hear a word about the troubles of the world today.

There's almost no electricity anywhere. My favorite guy to see is Dextre Tripp. He's an incredible acrobat and he's a downright wonderful person to meet and know. If you want to meet him, just hang around after a show and talk to him, he's really nice.

I'll start now by extending an open invitation to anyone to come out and join me. I'm there most weekends, and I'd love to meet up with anyone who can get out there. If you want a day of relaxation, total escape and fun, come on out. And no, I don't get paid by them for this ad, I'm just letting you know it really is nice. Oh, and if you're in a hurry and want to see everything in one day, count me out -- I like to go and just take my time and enjoy it.

Drop me a line in comments if you can make it out there one day and I'll be glad to meet up with you! Oh, and the counter in the right column does show exactly how many days to the first weekend...

Ride Amtrak?

So, isn't the train wonderful? It's so relaxing and scenic, right? I like riding the train. Did you know that Amtrak, the wonder of the train world, only survives because your tax dollars pay for it? It's a business that simply DOES NOT WORK in today's economy. But that doesn't stop government Government honestly doesn't care about supply and demand, instead, they will FORCE you to pay for Amtrak.

So at least it's good, right? Well, you might want to ask Kender about his experience with their customer service and the attitude of the permanently employed government people working for Amtrak:

[W]hen I say Amtrak Sucks I mean that Amtrak sucks in the worst way it is possible for anything to suck:
...
They are the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked a sucked.

More Forced Contributions

Do you like the zoo? I sure do. I really like being able to see animals up close. I like seeing the animals being taken care of. I like being able to take pictures of animals without having to travel to far away places. I sure hope you like the zoo as much as I do -- because you're being forced to pay for it, whether you like it or not.

Once again, Democrats in North Carolina declare that they know best what you should spend your money on. Democrats agree that you're too stupid to know how to spend the money you earn, so they're going to take that money from you by force (and if you don't give it to them, they'll jail or kill you) and they're going to spend it as they see fit.

$3.4 million dollars of money that you, personally, have earned that you cannot use. $3.4 million dollars of labor that is being taken away from you, no matter what. What could you have done with your portion of $3.4 million that you worked for? Would you have given $3.4 million of money you earned to the zoo? I sure wish I had the opportunity to spend my money the way I want to.

But then, I'm wishing for freedom -- which is not going to happen in North Carolina as long as the Democrats retain their iron grip on the scum peons taxpayers of the state.

Public Financing Lies

Democrats in the North Carolina Legislature are working hard to spend more money make elections "public financed." They're calling them "voter owned elections" (VOE) -- which couldn't be further from the truth.

These are common ideas from the left. It claims that there will be more participation in elections and that there will be less influence from special interests. States that have implemented these new election rules, however, have found the exact opposite has happened:

Incumbent re-election rates ROSE when public financing was put in place.
More incumbents decide to run for re-election with public financing.
In AZ, from 2002 to 2004, the number of statewide candidates fell from 39 to 7.
40 academic studies have shown that legislators elected under public financing vote exactly the same as legislators who were not.
Public financed elections have the exact same margins of victory as non-public funded.
Voter turnout is completely unaffected.
Public opinion of legislators is unchanged by public financing.

So what, exactly, does public financing do? It increases the power of the incumbent and forces the taxpayer to finance a candidate they dislike. It reduces the choices of the voter. It makes it MORE difficult for an unexperienced candidate to navigate the red tape of the election process. Elected candidates will be LESS responsive to voters -- because they don't need to raise money from them any more.

Public financing is completely and totally wrong on many levels. And those states who have implemented it have shown it will have a detrimental effect on Democracy -- which is why North Carolina Democrats support it.

Hershey's Kisses are called that because the machine that make them looks like it's kissing the conveyor belt.

A. One thousand

In English pubs, ale is ordered by pints and quarts. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them mind their own pints and quarts and settle down. It's where we get the phrase mind your P's and Q's" (Hey, it could be true!)
