NC Republicans vs. Freedom

Those who read this site regularly (thank you so much) know that the morning post is usually about something to do with North Carolina state government. I like to find out and post information about goings-on in Raleigh because that information simply is rather hard to find. And often when you find such information, it's filtered through press outlets that despise freedom. I like to point out what a state would look like with more freedom. Often that means pointing out what Democrats are doing.

This time, however, I'd like to point out the difference between a big-government Republican and freedom. At issue are the comments of one Sen. Stan Bingham. He's a Republican from Davidson County, NC. He comments in The Lexington Dispatch.

He was asked about the recent activities of the Democrat-led General Assembly.

Things he was rather excited about this year: taking a literally infinite amount of money from taxpayers to give to cancer research. He's very glad that he was able to use the force of government to make people pay to research cancer. He's happy that people will either fund this research or be jailed. A freedom-oriented legislator would be very sorry a literally endless open expenditure would even be considered.

Another thing he's rather happy about is the increase in Medicare funding to the tune of 300%. He's glad that the state can raise taxes and spend lots more tax money on giving away free health care for, well, people who want it because they want it. Apparently he's glad that we're getting closer and closer to outlawing private expenditures for health care. A freedom-oriented legislator would be sad that government is spending more and taking away more freedom.

Sen. Bingham is sad that the teachers got a giant pay raise for doing nothing. That sounds good until you read further -- he's not sad because they got a giant pay raise for doing nothing -- he's actually sad that the teachers got a giant pay raise for doing nothing, but other state workers did not! He would have been happier if government could have spent A LOT more money giving away MORE pay raises to other government bureaucrats for doing nothing! No, I don't know why Mr. Bingham runs on the Republican ticket. He clearly supports everything that means government gets to take MORE from working people to give away to the people Mr. Bingham likes.

The state had a $1.5 BILLION surplus this year. That means they took in $1.5 BILLION more than they were supposed to. If someone were interested in freedom, even remotely, they would have given that money back to the taxpayers who paid too much. Of course, the Democrats who have run the NC General Assembly for over 100 years (seriously!) would never even consider such an option. But Senator Bingham happened to agree with the Democrats and was rather happy that they had spent every single dime and more. He apparently thought it was great that they had the "extra" money to spend.

He's also apparently clueless. When asked about the Jim Black scandal (that's the Democrat Speaker of the House who is in federal prison right now), he actually claims that 99.9% of legislators weren't involved with ANY wrongdoing. With only 170 legislators, that would be exactly 17/100th of a lawmaker who was involved. With JUST Black involved, that's already 0.58% who are involved. In other words, Mr. Bingham thinks that absolutely NO ONE else was involved with the Black scandals. Since there's already one other legislator that's in jail, and many others that simply HAD to cooperate with Black, I think Mr. Bingham needs to get out a little more and look around.

So you see, it's not JUST Democrats in North Carolina who hate freedom. There are Republicans like Senator Bingham who honestly don't like people being free. You see, people like Mr. Bingham know better than you how to spend your money -- therefore you should just give all your money to him so he can spend it "correctly." Oh, and if you don't, he will simply use the power of government to force you to give him your money. You're free to not do that, of course, but then he will have you jailed or shot.

Oh, how I yearn for freedom.
