And the Beast Shall Eat Itself
A hot microphone, a revelation of dishonesty, and the violation of a long-held gentleman's agreement destroyed the credibility of the Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan today, and may have changed the complexion of the American news media forever.
Noonan published an
article just this morning labeling Sarah Palin as "a real and present danger to the American left, and to the Obama candidacy."
This same afternoon on MSNBC after a segment with NBC's Chuck Todd, Republican consultant Mike Murphy and Noonan were captured on still-live microphones ridiculing McCain's running mate.
Every indication is that the raw video was
leaked directly from an increasingly partisan MSNBC to liberal blog
Talking Points Memo.
With that leak, Noonan's credibility as a columnist was severely damaged if not destroyed, a fact she seems to realize even as she becomes the first casualty as a long held gentleman's agreement among journalists to overlook each others biases, faults, mistakes and lies has been ripped apart. The media now no longer looks after their own, and naked partisanship is now the order of the day.
After being exposed, Noonan wrote that she was "mugged by the nature of modern media," which is both absolutely true and utterly irrelevant.
Noonan revealed herself a hypocrite, and MSNBC, a network that has abandoned all illusions of objective journalism in favor of naked advocacy for Barack Obama and an exclusive allegiance to partisan politics of the far left wing of the Democratic Party, shattered a common courtesy between journalists, in order to tear another journalist down for a minor temporary gain.
All bets are off now, all gentleman's agreements dead.
Welcome to the real world, kids.

I declare a class warfare.
Peggy, a silver spoon parasite who "attended Fairleigh Dickinson University" (an elite private school), was married to a chief economist for the bloated Federal government and has become intertwined in the D.C. beltway crowd seeking love, adoration and respect by other parasites, has done nothing of value for our nation. She is the proverbial grasshopper and we are the ants.
The ants are tired. We don't need grasshoppers in times of $4.70 diesel and $4.00 gasoline. Our tax burdon is insane. Every time we turn around, the damn grasshopper has hocked another $10 billion in loans to the Chinese, and listed us as co-signers. That damn grasshopper also has a bunch of friends, the roaches, that hang around drinking beer and making a mess out of the place, taking out more loans with our names on them. Yea, he's a popular sort with the roaches, but we're tired of being the sole earner for this party.
People like Peggy, Obama and the other insiders need to go. It's time to throw the grasshoppers out. Let them discover the cold, hard truth of work, taxes, hardship. The party's over. Palin and McCain have reminded us that we are the ones that provide for the wealth of this nation, and it's time that we see that wealth go for the right causes.

What's even worse is having to listen to JLo at NRO try to justify how Noonan (and other pundits/columnists) can have, essentially, on the record and off the record personas, where one might not neccesarily agree with the other and somehow this is supposed to be viewed as reasonable, expected, and acceptable--apparently Sullivan isn't the only one that's off his meds (though he's by far the most far gone).

But a journalist? Amazing what you learn in the comment sections of blogs these days.

I'm not sure how you can claim any partisan effect from Jackson. Did that hurt Barry or help? It sure hurt Jesse, is he one with the Democrats? I suspect many Democrats would object. But the point is moot as Fox has never claimed metaphysical objectivity, quite the reverse. It is the Bigs who do that or did, until Olberman. As for Noonan, she lost me long ago on unrelated grounds.

Brian Ross: Caught in the Smear
Brian Ross of ABC News is letting his political biases show in a most unseemly way.
Ross' article,
Another Controversy for Sarah Palin, attempts to undermine the Republican Vice Presidential candidate by insinuating there is still some some controversy surrounding Palin's firing of the Wasilla Police Chief more than a decade ago.
Says Ross in his lede:
Gov. Sarah Palin is already facing ethical questions over her firing of the Alaska public safety commissioner, and now she faces questions over the firing of a longtime local police chief.
Now faces?
The lawsuit
filed in 1997 by the police chief, Irl Stambaugh, was dismissed by the judge, as Palin had every right to replace him and other town officials. As a matter of public record, other officials were also pushed out of office on Palin's reform pledge, but Ross inexplicably refuses to mention their firings. Ross seeks to frame resolved history as a current scandal, and then tie it the dismissal of public safety commissioner, Walter Monegan, roughly a decade later.
This is dishonest advocacy journalism at it's most naked, and ABC News owes Sarah Palin a retraction and an apology.

I do think this is another of the shell games the MSM/Democrats love to play with conservatives and Republicans. The "best defense is a good offense" strategy.
Sling all sorts of false, illegitimate, and dishonest mud at [fill in the blank] when their man is getting more and more threatened by both revelations (Annenberg Challenge Fund) and fair attacks (surge? Georgia? Energy? Joe "let me make up some more lies" Biden as VP?). Conservatives/Republicans fall for this in the same way that Charlie Brown kept believing Lucy would actually hold the football and play it straight while the MSM/Democrats snicker all the way to the (vote fraud contaminated) polls.

Sign of the Times
It says quite a bit about the state of modern journalism that one of the last national media outlets to post a story about the family of Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin is the National Equirer—and something else again that the Enquirer article is less partisan in tone and apparently more solid in their sourcing than network and cable news channels, national newspapers, and magazines that have published outlandish claims that even Bat Boy would know better than to report.
The venom and vigor with which journalists have gone after Palin and her family is unsurprising. According to the practitioners of liberal theology, Palin is a gender traitor for being a conservative, and perhaps even worse, an embarrassing reminder of their own self-centeredness. Palin is guilty of what many of the left consider a most serious offense, knowingly carry to term a child with disabilities and furthermore, pledging to love and care for him.
Such a reminder of self-sacrifice cuts those who use abortion as a political tool and rallying cry. For those souls who have been in the position of being forced to choose, and chose to terminate their pregnancies, the delivery of Trig Palin and the joy he obviously brings to his family re-opens those old wounds.
Bristol Palin's pregnancy is even worse for liberal Democrats who view abortion as little more than a post-coital "easy button," and the baby is precisely the kind of pregnancy that Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama advocates killing. Barack Obama is a man who voted to refuse medical care for babies that survive abortions, and then unashamedly
lied about it.
Obama was also quite blunt about the fact that if his daughters got pregnant at roughly the same age as Bristol Palin, that he would advocate the killing of his grandchild,
stating:
...I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby. I don't want them punished with an STD at the age of 16.
Barack Obama's advocacy to his daughters is an unmistakable reflection of his character, or rather, his lack of it. In Barack Obama's responsibility-free zone, children are not a blessing to be celebrated, but an illness to be cured. He considers a growing human child in the womb a STD—a sexually transmitted disease.
Barack Obama equates unborn children with bacteria, viruses, and parasites. That certainly explains why he could oppose an act to provide medical care to abortion survivors, even the federal version of the bill that was unopposed by so much as a single liberal in the Senate. By his own words, Barack Obama views abortion as nothing more than a form of disease control, and the unwanted children as the disease.
Bristol Palin's family, however, views children as most Americans outside of certain community-based realities do, as a blessing, as the promise of new life, of joy... and of hope. And most certainly of a wonderful change.
But the live birth of babies from atypical pregnancies aren't "a change we can believe in" if we're Obama supporters in the media.
Pitted against a Vice Presidential candidate Mark Steyn correctly categorized as
hyper-American, the cadaverous, sullen selfishness of Obama's all-too-typical campaign is exposed as being "just words."
Barack Obama is a lawmaker who has passed no important laws, a community organizer who renounced his community, a Senator who has spent more time with those who have declared war against America than with Americans defending our country.
His only real accomplishments are autobiographies he hopes some will confuse with the truth. But we know the truth. He is a husk of a man. There is no substance inside.
And so when Barack the Anointed was confronted by the unexpected choice of a real reformer, a self-made leader who not just fought against machine politics, but dared to have a rich life full beyond what Obama could allow others to have, it is unsurprising that his supporters in the libel blogosphere and libel media—let's address them for what the really are—rushed out to undercut her and her family.
For Barack Obama to thrive, there must be woe in America. Recessions must always be just around the corner. Ever expanding government
must be your key to success and happiness. There can be no other way.
Sarah Palin and her family aren't perfect, and they don't claim to be.
Her sister made a bad choice, and married a bad cop, a man who drank in his patrol vehicle, who uttered death threats again her, her father, and even the governor. He was and is animal who broke laws, shot animals out of season, and tasered his own son.
You read the affidavit for yourself, and tell me Sarah Palin did anything unethical or out of line in response.
Todd Palin got a DWI in 1984. The media wants to make a big deal about that. They purposefully avoid mentioning that Barack Obama admits using cocaine and marijuana far more recently.
Bristol Palin and her boyfriend Levi Johnson are having a child. Some want to crow that this is proof of the failure of the Palin family as parents, and of abstinence education. They purposefully turn a blind eye to the fact that parents can only guide children so far. Parents teach, but children have to make their own way, their own decisions, and their own mistakes. It is how they respond to their mistakes that shows their character and how they were raised. That the Johnson and Palin families have rallied around their children and the child resulting from their union thus far is impressive.
Her husband was the member of Alaska's 3rd largest political party, a group that championed Alaskan sovereignty. Some in the media have decided this is a huge scandal, while they've ignored for years that Hawaiian Democrats (including Senate Democrat Daniel Akaka in every session of Congress since 2000) have championed that state's sovereignty as a kingdom. Has anyone ever question Obama on his views of Hawaii's independence? Don't make me laugh.
We don't expect the media to be non-partisan or unbiased. We should, however, expect them to be reasonably honest, a lowered standard that still sadly seems far too high.
The
National Enquirer can no longer be laughed at as "just" a tabloid. It isn't because that publication has raised it standards. It's because other journalists have so nakedly abandoned their own.

On a minor point: the recession. The first two quarters had a 3.3% growth rate. I seem to remember from MacroEcon that 4% or so is quite ganagbusters historically for a mature economy like the US. So the recession is not only PURELY mental as Phil Gramm said so well, it is a neurotic fiction that stands utterly destroyed by, um, the facts. The Reality Based Community, indeed. The Democrats feel a recession, it is the recession of their long looming shadow on the public scene. No wonder they feel that doom is at hand. For them, it is. Their precious sincecures that pay not handsome paychecks merely but also generous dollops of the adulation of the credulous, a diminishing multitude, and an undeserved hand in conducting our public affairs.

Wasn't planning on blogging the RNC tonight, but during Joe Lieberman's speech, my wife made a good point.
Lieberman's speech espousing John McCain's and Sarah Palin's "America First" beliefs also reflects Lieberman's own belief in America over party.
The Democrats are going to strip Lieberman of the positions and power he's earned during his time in the Senate for the speech he's giving now. He's willing to put America ahead of party as well.

If I find out down the road that he had already decided to hang it up before he made that statement, it won't matter. Lieberman has shown he is willing to give up a hell of a lot for what he knows is right.

Fantasizing that Senator Lieberman would turn Republican is akin to burying one's head in the sand. He's one of the last of the anticommunist liberal breed, with the accent on the 'liberal'.
A radical he's not, and he's well aware of the pernicious trend of the Democratic Party into the clutches of its plutocratic radical fringe and its media enablers, and the dangers to our democracy and way of life in case they should gain control of both the Presidency and Congress. And as noted before, he (unlike the supporters of the Democratic candidate, and perhaps the candidate himself) is honorable enough to put country before party. More power to him.

That stooge Richardson denounced Joe as "bitter". Sound familiar? I'm not sure what Joe should be bitter about, he is after all, still in the same high office in contrast to Lamont. Perhaps it is Richardson who feels the bite since he sold out his patrons, the Clintons, for what seems to be a rapidly wasting asset: the good grades of the O-bots.
"Country First" resonates well, I think. This is another example of what Dr Dean has pointed out: the Rightwing highjacking of patriotic themes and symbols. Thing is, no one prevents the Dems from making similar appeals and sometimes they do. It is just that they appear stilted and forced because they are and the establishment Dems can count on some doof like Carter or More to whiz on it out of hand before the media at some point. I would dearly love to see the anarcho-morons waving flags rather than wiping their asses with them, probably as much as Howard Dean but they just don't cooperate, do they?
Micro, could we be related?

Joe Lieberman is far from bitter, and Richardson is just lashing out in frustration.
Cousin Mega and I also seem to agree also on the misnamed anarcho-morons. In truth, they are more like the oh-so-sophisticated European street thugs of the 1930s, who were more into violence than politics - viz. the Communist street thugs who went over to the Nazis en masse when the German communists came out on the short end.
Our own street thugs are more pampered, however. The ACLU will provide endless free legal services and press releases blaming the police. Whereas in the 30s, said thugs actually ran the risk of having their heads busted by the opposing mob, or by the police. Ours bask in the output of an adoring MSM, unless Zombie is in the crowd - and even Zombie can't cover all of the misnamed 'protests'.

Yes, if The One isn't elected, we'll trash our own blue cities in blue states. Like toddlers breaking their own toys in a rage if their demands are not met.
Rioting would certainly do a lot to improve race relations in this country, wouldn't it? Think again, fools - if Obama loses and riots break out as a result, his chances of getting the nomination in 2012 would go down the drain. In fact, Americans would be very hestitant to nominate any black Dem for a long time. Who would want to risk voting for someone whose loss would induce violence?

This shouldn't be overblown, but not underblown either. This woman is a voice given credence in her circle and there is little doubt she reflects the sentiment there. Whatever, we will deal with it. But it is often a sobering moment for the young radical who carries on about some vague "REVOLUTION!" and sticking it to the pigs, man, when they are asked, "Are you a pretty good shot? How about your friends?" Like most of their stated positions, the Lefties haven't given this serious thought. They have certainly given it a LOT of thought but not of the serious variety. If there ever is another American Civil War it will be in a remote future over issues we can scarcely conceive; maybe internet tarriffs. There is no looming violent revolutionary threat but these mooks do like to posture as one. I find it pretty hilarious.

The threat wasn't "there will be a revolution," but there will be a "race and class war."

be's...Obamaniacs are so scared that their Messiah finally has met his match, and they are so scared that a pro-life, pro-gun, feminist will be number 2 in our White House, that they have no alternative but to swear, smear, and threaten. Pelosi certainly is more dangerous than Obama and she is #3 in line for the presidency....
Poor dumb black thugs will burn and loot their own communities and kill their own, like they have been doing forever. But guess what? Since their elitist, liberal, nanny-state "leaders" have deprived them all from the right to keep and bear arms...and only thugs have guns in the cities where blacks are the majority (Chicago, Detroit, Philly, DC, etc.)...those Black Panther wanna-be's are in for a surprise...there are 90,000,000 (legal) gun owners in the USA, with over 200,000,000 guns in their possession and the VAST MAJORITY OF THOSE LEGAL GUN OWNERS ARE WHITE CONSERVATIVES, LOTS OF THEM HUNTERS, TARGET SHOOTERS, or VETERANS!....tsk tsk tsk...I think we can certainly predict the outcome of a "full-fledged race war" in the USA...the black minority will be reduced from 12% to less than 5%. I guess crime will go down dramatically after the "war" is over, just to name a positive outcome. Come and get it!

What Day Will Barack Obama Drop Out?
For reasons only "progressive" minds can fathom, several bloggers on the left think—or more likely, are perhaps wishing—that Sarah Palin, John McCain's newly-announced choice for Vice President, will drop out of the Presidential race.
Jeralyn Merritt, probably once the most consistently rational member of the leftist blogosphere, is actively promoting a
drop-out pool.
Merritt claims that McCain must force Palin out because she wasn't adequately vetted, and then quite seriously suggests that Obama was:
Obama presented himself for 17 months to the American people, they heard him debate more than a dozen times, they made their own decision that he was ready for the job and the Democrats voted him their nominee.
Obama wasn't unilaterally appointed by a party's nominee in a transparent play for the evangelical and female vote. As if Sarah Palin could fill Hillary Clinton's shoes by virtue of her gender. As if women wouldn't see that Sarah Palin is the antithesis of Hillary Clinton on issues. As if anything would evoke Palin's lack of qualifications more than to compare them to Hillary's.
We now know far more about Sarah Palin in just four days than we've learned about Barack Obama in 17 months. That is just sad. It's a pathetic reflection of the mainstream media's unwillingness to do their jobs for fear of finding stories that would hurt the candidate so many of them openly desire to win.
But periodically appearing to read teleprompters isn't vetting, not matter how many months a candidate has done it, and Obama's ability to perform in set-piece debates is both dubious—Hillary once famously took him apart—and irrelevant. Barack Obama really has never been fully vetted. He hasn't even come close.
You want examples?
If Obama does not share the radical cultural and religious views of Jeremiah Wright, then why was he a member of Trinity United Church of Christ for more than two decades?
Of all the churches in Chicago, why did Obama chose a church that espouses Black Liberation Theology? The doctrine was conceived by James Cone, based upon the rhetoric of the Black Panthers and Malcolm X and the civil rights movement. It is a radical religion primarily based upon the oppression of blacks by whites. How can Barack Obama make the claim that he is a post-racial candidate, when his entire religious focal point was one of bitter victimization?
We don't know, because no one has ever vetted Obama over his radical and openly racial faith, which is a cult that views whites as an enemy incapable of redemption, and views the Trinity as either "black" in spirit, or deems God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit to be false and not only not worth following, but worth killing.
Cone writes in
A Black Theology of Liberation:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
Jeralyn, does Barack Obama believe God a murderer if he isn't racially-biased toward blacks, as Obama's church and pastor for more than 20 years believes? We don't know, because Barack Obama has never been vetted in depth about his belief system.
To their great dishonor, the media has focused more energy on Sarah Palin's religious background in just the few days since her announcement as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate than they have on Obama's in the entire campaign. The extent they've explored Obama's faith stops at his declaration that he isn't a Muslim and that he is a Christian, even though he goes to a church that stretches the definition of Christianity to the breaking point, if not beyond.
And what, my dear friends, of Obama's three decades-long relationship with terrorists?
If John McCain had so much as ever shaken Eric Robert Rudolph's hand in an anonymous campaign stop, is there any doubt that the far left blogosphere would use such information to push the candidate out of the race?
You
do remember Rudolph, don't you? He was behind the Centennial Olympic Park bombing. He bombed a lesbian nightclub and abortion clinics as well. A relationship to someone like Rudolph should be a career-killer for any politician.
But Barack Obama is closely aligned with not one, but two infamous domestic terrorists, Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn. What is remarkable about their relationship is that Barack Obama befriended Ayers and Dohrn well after their status as terrorists was well known. Despite knowing Ayers and Dohrn were terrorists, he befriended them, and worked with them.
The Weather Underground that Ayers helped found and Dohn helped lead are responsible for bombings and armed robberies that left law enforcement officers dead and wounded in at least two states.
They declared war upon the United States. They bombed American government buildings. They bombed police stations, and conducted armed robberies. Their attempt at mass murder—the planned bombing of a soldier's dance at Fort Dix—only failed because Ayers' then-girlfriend Diana Oughten screwed up while building the massive roofing nails and dynamite bombs (the same key components Rudolph used, it is worth noting) and blew herself and two other terrorists up as well.
Barack Obama knew Bill Ayers was a terrorist when they first met. Barack Obama knew that Bernadine Dohrn was a terrorist when they met, and probably knew she was a fan of Charles Manson's murderous cult as well. He still chose to work with Ayers in numerous groups in leadership positions, and the relationship was close enough for Obama to start his his political career with a fundraiser at Ayers' and Dohrn's home.
What makes it all the more fascinating is that Barack Obama will not repudiate his 21-year relationship with Bill Ayers and Bernie Dohrn. Barack Obama threw his own grandmother under the bus without a thought, portraying her as a racist for short-term political sympathy.
He tossed his friend and mentor Jeremiah Wright under the bus when it became politically advantageous for him to do so, then his church and congregation, and he hasn't looked back. Father Michael Fleger, the radical priest who advocated lynching a gun store owner, was also a friend of many years (at least 22) tossed aside by Obama without a look back.
But Barack Obama won't repudiate his relationship with American terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernie Dorhn. He repudiates what they did, but makes a point of not assailing who they are or what they believe. Of all the people in his life that have popped up during this campaign, Barack Obama has shown more loyalty to these two terrorists that he has shown anyone else, including his own pastor, church, and grandmother.
But the media hasn't pressed Obama about this relationship, and why Obama started and still maintains this relationship. They refuse to investigate the $100 million in education grants that Ayers and Obama burned through in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge with no results, some of which was funneled to their friends.
Barack Obama simply hasn't be vetted about key aspects of his life that would reveal his character and his potential suitability as a leader.
So, Jeralyn, when are you going to push for him to step down?
Update: wrong word choice above; switched from "refute" to "repudiate."

Obama supporters such as Andrew Sullivan will accuse you of being a racist for even suggesting that anybody should look into Obama's background. On the other habd, Sullivan has no problem at all with posting a couple dozen stories with virtually no basis in fact and no source reporting that slander, in often gross and nasty ways, and belittle a woman and a teenage girl. His defense was that he was only "seeking the truth." What a load of crap, but that's all some of these asshats on the Left have in them.

This is a truly bewildering talking point that the Obama campaign is promulgating: that Obama has been "vetted" because he won the Democrat nomination, and that therefore questions about his inexperience are unfounded. Tom Brokaw used this same slippery sophism when he interviewed Tim Pawlenty on Sunday. He grilled Pawlenty about Palin's alleged inexperience, and when Pawlenty responded by pointing out BO's complete lack of executive experience, Brokaw bristled, and said that Obama has been before a national audience for several years and has been "vetted". [Pawlenty was brilliant, BTW, and would make a great, albeit overqualified, press secretary.]
So, "won the nomination by the narrowest of margins, with the help of superdelegates" equals "vetted" equals "more experience than a governor and former mayor".
I can imagine leftists chortling with self-satisfaction at this wordplay, but are there really voters that believe this line of argument?

Sarah Palin is rapidly proving to be the figure who confounds the media/liberal establishment more than anyone since Ronald Reagan. I can't tell you how many liberal blogs are out there proclaiming that her hunting will turn off America, her family's fecundity will turn off America, her accent and hairdo will turn off America, her not coming up the approved establishment way (ie. Harvard Law Review and Chicago machine) will turn off America... well, Georgetown and Malibu ain't America, dumbsh*ts, and I think they are setting themselves up for the sucker punch of all time as their innate sexism and condescension puts votes in McCain's column every time they open their mouths (or press Post).

Palin: She studied business admin. at Hawaii Pacific University for one semester then transferred to North Idaho College and received a degree in communications-journalism.
Before being on city council and mayor of a town of less than 9000 people she was a sports broadcaster of the local TV station. She was then on the Alaska Ethics Commission for about two years before her term as governor which has been about an year and a half. The population of Alaska is 670,000.
Obama: Very briefly, he's a graduate of Columbia University (political science--international relations) and Harvard Law School (Juris Doctor magna cum laude) and it would take a full article to describe his accomplishments before entering into politics.
As State Senator of the 13th district in Illinois, Obama represented 750,000 people. As US Senator from Illinois he represents 13,000,000 people. He's been the head of a highly successful national campaign for longer than Sarah Palin has been governor of Alaska.
Of course Obama has been vetted. He's been raked over the coals by the corporate-controlled media for many issues in his past, and yet he still obtained the nomination from the voters. The McCain campaign is only now sending a delegation to Alaska to vet Sarah Palin.

Just once, I'd like to see someone list Obama's accomplishments in a way that doesn't merely constitute "positions held."
Obama seems the ultimate apple-polisher, lifted upward by the needs of the establishment for well-spoken young minorities, but what has he ever DONE in any of those positions besides network his way to the next one? I fully expect to be called racist for raising this issue, but I'll withdraw it when someone can tell me something concrete his community organizing accomplished, some piece of legislation he championed, some innovative idea he's been an original thinker on.
Opposing the war in hyperliberal Hyde Park does NOT count.

@j and Dale - Might as well give it up. The neocons are grouchy this year because the best they can hope for is McCain. The best CY can do is say that Obama has bad friends. The radical black church thing is simply red meat for evangelicals. You can't hate him because he's black, that's racist. But if goes to a "radical" black church, then that's ok. Here is a kick in the shorts, historically all founders of churches are considered radicals or heritics! How does one vet their religious belief system? Has McCain? Would that be before or after he divorced his first wife? Its a trick question because religious beliefs can't be vetted.
Just remember, what's good for the goose will be good for the gander. The next Republican candidate for president better have sat next to the foot of God and took notes, otherwise this tactic will be fair play.
Palin was an obvious stab at getting the gender vote. Its pretty obvious that they didn't do much vetting on her, it almost feels like they were desperate to find someone who would agree to run with him. I mean all it takes is a google on youtube to find her addressing the 2008 AIG conference. A political party that believes Alaska should secede from the United States. It seems she was a member of that august group before she decided to become a Republican. Obviously she is a "true" American. Or how about all the earmarks she got from hiring a lobbyist while mayor? Or the millions of dollars that her state took while she is the govenor of Alaska for the bridge to no where but never gave back to the US? How often does she get personally involved in firing State Troopers or is only for those divorcing her sister(I don't care if he shot a moose drunk, naked and while on duty, does the govenor get involved in police personnel management or might there be a procedure or 2 that needs to be followed?)?

We need to challenge BOs bona fides. He was a "community organizer" (for ACORN). Big whoop. What did he accomplish? Any "hope and change" of note, any brilliant breakthrough for the poor and downtrodden of the South Side? Apparently - at least as far as I can find out - the only person to really benefit from all his "organizing" was himself.
Ditto with his years in the Illinois Senate. It's one thing to propose legislation and a whole 'nuther' ball game to fight for it and shepherd it through committees to arrive largely intact at the other end. Obama didn't do ANYTHING like that - instead, he sat largely apart and voted with the mob/majority of his party or voted "present" or, when it was known he wanted to go national, got some real legislator to sign over all his work to him at the last minute.
He never did the heavy lifting on "ethics reform" - and if you actually READ THE REFORM it isn't much of a "reform" - full of loopholes for the same old corrupt politicians to use. No 'game changing' hope and change there either.
In the US Senate he did NOTHING of note. No major piece of legislation, no bi-partisan profile in courage, no brilliant unheard of insight in foreign policy, health care, domestic policy or wonkery.
He's handled a campaign with 2500 workers. OK, but has he had to deal with a budget that will be scrutinized, with opposition he'll need to cooperate with, etc.? No. That's part of the reason Senators don't typically become President. (And yes, McCain WASN'T MY FIRST CHOICE EITHER...)
Comparing the running of a campaign to the running of a state is a real stretch. But he's the wonderworker. The Messiah full of hope and change. Fine, whatever - but show me sign of him actually changing some zip code for the better.
Rhetoric and "policy positions" are one thing, cheap and don't matter much. Anyone can be "against the war", what was HIS brilliant alternative? Al Qaeda apparently was in 80 countries EXCEPT Iraq? Domestically, show me one LIBERAL program Barry was a leader on that has actually worked.
Not in crime prevention, not in poverty alleviation, not in improving education, not in infrastructure improvement. He's been "for" things but hasn't actually fought for much.

This has got to be the lamest dodge on record, "The true, full Obama record would take a full article to describe, so I won't do it." Genius. As circular as Barry's claim that his campaign IS his experience. And the notion that winning the Dem nom means he is vetted is a joke. He managed to get millions of Leftwingers to, barely, give it up while a supine press declined to send one onehundreth of the resources to Chicago than they have aimed at Wassilla. For two years. We know the Obies are on the run because, from top to bottom, they all say the same nonesensical thing, "This is the mayor of a town of less than 9,000...." Okay, Barry was a state senator. Once. Is that what he is now? The Dems demonstrate their stupidity here. Do they really want Barry running against Palin? Even if he wins, which is doubtful, guess what? BARRY IS THE TOP OF YOUR TICKET! He doesn't want to engage McCain because he can't. What can Barry offer a real American, as opposed to an anti-American electorate, compared to McCain's record, bio and character? The answer to this question is so obvious the Obies cannot have it asked, therefore, this.

Talk about having a different view of things, but this stood out ...I sat in on a session with three leaders of Veterans for Obama, a group of retired young officers who had served in Iraq and Afghanistan, courtesy of the New Republic's writer on the scene, David Samuels. With passion and enthusiasm, these young people spoke of their hopes for nation-building in Iraq. The George W Bush administration should have pute twice the resources into the beleaguered country, they harangued me - not just soldiers, but agronomists, traffic cops, lawyers, judges, and physicians. The Department of Agriculture should have mobilized, along with the Department of Justice.
Nation-building? Doubling down on the US commitment to Iraq? Isn't that trying to out-Bush the Bush administration, while Obama campaigned on getting out of Iraq and spending the money on programs at home? Unblinking, one of the soldiers said, "That's what we think Barack will do." They believed in a more expensive version of the administration's program, and faulted Bush for half measures - and somehow they believed that Obama really agreed with them, all the public evidence to the contrary. And they believed in Barack with perfect faith.

I do not "hate" Obama, nor do I hate him because he is black. I do however question his judgment when he attends a "church" that calls for the deaths of those of another race. Whites would be assailed for this, so why not assail a black for the same thing?
Obama was NOT vetted. Obama's connections & the abysmal failure of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge have not been vetted. The documents have been blocked from full access. Sarah Palin's have not.
The Ayers connection is one that truly goes to judgment. Not that he "knew him. Not that Ayers may have launched Obama's political career. BUT, that Obama still stands by him still does not acknowledge that Ayers is still an unrepentant terrorist, & they worked on a failed program few have been told all about, indicates he cannot be trusted to judge the character of those he associates with. Would Obama put Ayers in an official position? Would Obama use Ayers as a consultant or advisor? A terrorist! A man who is sorry he did not do enough with bombs! Comeon!!!
Palin's term as Governor so far, far outweighs all of Obama's supposed experience & leftists know it!
Republicans might lose this election, but it will not be because Obama is more qualified. It will have lots to do with the indoctrination tactics of the media to sell America this socialist. Just what we need to do, emulate Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez & their oppressive regimes.
What leftists have done to Palin already should turn all women against the Democrat ticket this time around. If those attacks had been launched at Jeralynn, she would be apoplectic, & rightfully so.
Obama's campaign experience does not equate to Palin's running a state, even if for only two years. She's balanced budgets, dealt with human resources issues, dealt with energy industry issues, dealt with climate issues, etc., etc. Obama has none of this & less.
Palin has managed. Obama has attended!

Can't get more racist than that...
Of course you can, matta. Merely look to Obama's faith, a cult created by James Cone, modeled on the racial supremacy of the Black Panthers, which says whites cannot be forgiven, and that God himself must be murdered if he isn't black.
Direct quote from the founder of Barack's race-based religion, James Cone:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."
These beliefs are the core of Barack Obama's faith. Frankly, it's racist. To sit in the pews and willingly subject themselves to this faith for 20 years shows that Barack and Michelle Obama are racists as well.

Gustav Takes Aim At The Gulf Coast
I've got a bad feeling about this.
I hope those along the Gulf coastline are in the process of packing up and heading out, especially those in New Orleans. There will be no shelters of last resort; the Superdome will be locked down.
It doesn't matter where you hide...

Thanks CY. We have done a lot of evacuations already today in Beaumont,Tx. We have a Mandatory Evacuation starting at 6am on Sunday, but the town looks like everyone is taking to the notices, not alot of heavy traffic. WB offered to come and stay here for a while, but I told him that he was close enough to us already.. say a Prayer for the Gulf coast.. Dan

I expect things will go much more smoothly this time around with Bobby Jindal in there as governor. We know the complete imcompetence of both Blanco and Nagin. Hopefully Nagin learned something but being a democrat I doubt it. Blaming everything on Bush worked last time so I suppose he'll just sit on his butt like during Katrina and practice blaming everything on the current administration.

He can't do it, though. With a Republican governor in office, and the conventioneers planning to become rescuers, Nagin is going to look like the worst sort of bum if he just sits on his assets.

Still offering to come "house-sit" for Dan, but he keeps turning me down. Go figure...
So far, we're ok in P-cola and are just starting to get some of the rains associated with Gustov. We're told that it should not be anything more than 30mph winds here...a lot better than they're going to get over in N.O. and at Dan's house (if the storm stays its course).

People on the Mississippi Gulf Coast started getting ready Wednesday. Homes and businesses began being boarded up by Friday. The new plans for evacuating those without transportation seems to have gone off smoothly. The local and state officials have been working closely together.
Thus far, just one bad squall has come through. It looks like we're going to dodge this one and maybe only have tropical force winds.
We in Mississippi remember Katrina all too well and will for years to come.
I hope Louisiana comes through okay.

Is the Obama Campaign Behind Smear Sites?
This is an interesting find. Charles Johnson does the rundown, showing that Sarah Palin Supports Gay Rights and Obamadefense.com share the same IP address of 74.208.74.232.
Copy and paste that into your address bar, and guess where you end up being redirected? Obama campaign Web site,
Fight the Smears.
Johnson also notes that other pro-Obama and anti-McCain web sites trace back to the same IP address. Are there IP sleuths out there who can conclusively run down the ownership of these sites?
If Barack Obama's campaign is associated with these sites (not yet proven by any stretch, I hasten to add), the campaign would seem to be in direct violation of campaign laws.
Are there any campaign law attorneys out there who could speak to this possibility with more authority?

IP spoofing? Really? Do you know what IP spoofing is "Duh"? If it was IP spoofing then your browser wouldn't lead anywhere, because the IP was spoofed... Run back to your Windows 3.11 for Dummies book and try to find some other technical term to throw out there.

As Johnson notes in updates, the site is unrelated either campaign, but under what theory would it be illegal for a campaign to create a site like that? I'm happy to do the legal research, but I don't see a theory here.

Nerd fight! "Duh" what you're describing is a man in the middle attack. For that to work DNS caches across the world would have to be poisoned - or a machine at every ISP backbone to handle the task... or maybe you're talking about browser hijacking through some kind of xss attack? Dude, when you're presented with multiple explanations for a condition the simple one is usually the right one. By your logic it could also be extraterrestrials using electromagnetic interference from across the cosmos to twiddle individual bits on our motherboards at precisely the right moment to redirect our browsers... of course that means that they'd have to anticipate this many many years ago to allow for the speed of light and such... but no, thats a real possibility. Or, and I'm going out on a limb here but say with me, maybe - just maybe the same person that registered http://obamadefense.com/ also registered http://www.sarahpalingayrights.com/

From Charles at LGF:
There is apparently no connection between these attack sites and the official Obama campaign; to get to the bottom of it I emailed the owner of an associated site, and here's his reply:
I run ObamaTaxCut.com, or actually alchemytoday.com/obamataxcut
I think the person who registered the domain and forwarded traffic to it also owns/ran ObamaDefense.com -- this used to be a separate site with short defenses of various factually inaccurate charges against Obama during the primary, but the owner changed it to redirect to Obama's site after the campaign made one themselves.

Scarypiron,
1. I would think a career criminal withOUT sense probably wouldnt be a career criminal. But perhaps its values we are talking about - not sense. Like family values that ship jobs overseas - you know, good ol' American values, the Republican way.
2. Who is Hussein O.? Is this your propagation of racist / hatred undertones to scare people from voting for Obama? How Republican! way to go.
3. Not sure what you mean by "criminal by association" but have you looked lately at the convicted felons your idols Bush, Cheney and McCain call friends? If we start at Watergate and end with Spygate (or with Ted Stevens) and put all the Ken Lays in between, I think your side will lose big - especially when it comes to crimes responsible for destroying people.
cheers!

"Otherwise you prove yourself to be an idiot, and an arrogant idiot at that."
I'm not the one leaping to grand conclusions that are obviously incorrect, Bob.
And, I was referring to IP spoofing to hijack a browser. That should be pretty obvious to even the casual tech observer. Rhetorical semantics aside…
"When IP spoofing is used to hijack a browser, a visitor who types in the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of a legitimate site is taken to a fraudulent Web page created by the hijacker. For example, if the hijacker spoofed the Library of Congress Web site, then any Internet user who typed in the URL www.loc.gov would see spoofed content created by the hijacker."
And, it turns out it was indeed a form of redirection... as suspected.
I was brief for times sake and had no intention of getting into an argument about tech stuff, since the facts were still sketchy and Charles was making inquiries.
But, logic was pretty simple on this one: It was obvious it wasn't the Obama camp because it was too easy to track. They aren’t stupid (think so at your peril) and hide their tracks much better than this. It was pretty obvious this was a form of spoof or redirection. And, that turned out to be the case.
The attacks the Obama camp launch are scattered far and away from their own servers. Anyone who doesn't get that is just playing at detective.
Or worse, parroting others posts with an added twist that includes obvious jumps in logic and mistakes meant to promote the assumption that is incorrect. Charles was VERY clear that it was a developing story, but you folks took it as truth at your own peril.
And that speaks VOLUMES.

The Class of Kos
The sewer elves of the Daily Kos—the same "progressives" that wanted to "out" Chief Justice John Roberts' four-year-old son Jack—are back in the slime, trying to claim that new Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin's son Trig isn't hers.
They're
trying to claim Palin's eldest daughter is actually the mother of Palin's youngest child.
They just can't seem to accept that people unlike themselves might actually chose to bring a Down's child into this world, instead of terminating it as an inconvenience... or as Obama might call it, a
punishment.

Think Progress Covers Up Child Abuse in Palin Nomination Smear
Just the kind of integrity-free poison we've come to expect:
In Dayton, OH today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) will announce that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be his vice presidential running mate. Palin, who entered office in 2006 after running as a reformer, is touted by conservatives as being “a politician of eye-popping integrity.”
But Palin’s reformer image took a hit last month when she was accused of attempting to get a state trooper fired. That state trooper was her former brother-in-law who had gone through “a messy divorce” with her sister. After the trooper’s boss wouldn’t act on the governor’s request, she fired him. Though Palin says she doesn’t “have anything to hide” and she “didn’t do anything wrong there,” an investigation has found that one of her aides pushed the firing:
Gov. Sarah Palin on Wednesday revealed an audio recording that shows an aide pressuring the Public Safety Department to fire a state trooper embroiled in a custody battle with her sister.
Palin, who has previously said her administration didn’t exert pressure to get rid of trooper Mike Wooten, also disclosed that members of her staff had made about two dozen contacts with public safety officials about the trooper.
Of course, there is nothing that has suggested Palin had any direct involvement with pressure brought against her former brother-in-law, and it was her aides that were accused of wanting the state trooper fired.
And perhaps part of the reason the governor's aides wanted this trooper fired wasn't because he was part of a divorce, but because he shot a cow moose... out of season.
It
could also have been because he was caught driving drunk... in a patrol car.
May be it even might have had something to do with the fact he
tasered his 11-year-old-son.
Of course, Think Progress leaves that all out.
It doesn't help the smear they're trying to create.

Not to mention that the Staffer - one Frank Bailey - was suspended for two months for his actions since they were outside his powers as Director of Boards and Commissions.
They also don't add that the Alaskan Legislature opened an independent investigation into the issue and has, so far, uncovered no wrongdoing.
But of course, when you're trying to slander someone you can't let facts get in the way ...

Nice try.
But if the trooper did all those things, then he would be subject to discipline, including possible firing, through the normal channels of the PS Dept's internal review system.
It would be inappropriate for the governor to intervene in such a case whether it was her brother-in-law or not. The trooper would be brought up on charges and have the right to defend himself, and if found guilty, then punished.
Since when does the governor arbitrarily decide that he must be guilty and be fired?
Your argument makes no sense.

Big Country,
You seem to be seriously missing the point.
Why do you think that it is so funny that the Dems are questioning Palin's experience?
Dont you understand the obvious point here? They dont really think she is unqualified - nor do they really care whether she is or not. The issue is rather, quite simply this;
When a prez nominee chooses a VP, they are asserting that that person is ready to be president - on Jan 20, if necessary. The VP is not a second-string job - one must be fully qualified to be president.
So McCain is saying that Palin is qualified to be president. How on earth could he now possibly sustain an argument that Obama is not?
He has completely eviserated his only strong argument in this entire campaign. A colossal mistake.
Palin is a great young pol - but she is not the issue. No one votes for the VP. But her presence on the ticket completely undermines the attack against O, so it is a huge negative.
Posted by: JoeCitizen at August 29, 2008 02:12 PM (I/GPD)
7
Joe, the best I can determine, there hasn't been any indication Palin intervened in this case. Can you provide actual evidence she did, or are you just repeating what you want to believe?
As for other arguments against Obama, the fact he's consorted with terrorists for 21 years, has been intimately involved with a racist minister, and a lynching advocate priest, and may have run a educational grant fund of $100 million into the ground as a form of welfare for 60s radicals are all strong enough to defeat Obama.
Also, Joe, you probably shouldn't gripe about whether the Republican Veep is "fully qualified to be president" when she has has more executive experience in government than Obama and Biden combined.

Actually, she has already been found to be a liar about whether her office intervened - here is a link to a local AK news report on the matter.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/211310.php
And you also seem to be missing the point. Need I repeat - Dems are NOT griping about whether she is qualified (or if you find some that are, it isnt sincere). The issue is that YOUR guy is the one who has been pushing the experience argument - against Obama. Now he cant do that anymore.
I'll go along with y'all. She is qualified. Therefore, so is Obama.
And the "she has more executive experience than Obana and biden combined" argument is pretty weak as well. She has more executive experience than McCain. So if she trumps Obama, she trumps McCain too. I dont think you want to go there.
Your "other arguments" against Obama are pretty revealing. Seems that you understand that those may be all you are left with after today. Good luck with 'em. I am sure there will be a couple of tens of millions of voters who will not vote for Obama!

Joe, I'm sorry, but it is pretty clear you're the one being dishonest. I wasted my time and listen through the entire video at TPM. There has been no credible evidence presented that Palin was involved, just overzealous aides, and as Dan noted, the aide involved suffered a suspension.
Nice to see you could care less about how Think Progress tried to spin this.
Accuracy and honesty are obviously not your primary concern.

Simple. Palin is not going to be President if elected, but Obama will be.
Therefore, since Democrats are screaming that Palin is unqualified to be President, Obama must be as well.
The problem here, JoeCitizen, is that you have been outflanked and outrun. McCain picked a person who, aside from having a stellar record, also happens to be a minority member.
You and your fellow Democrats went with minority member first and tried to ignore the lack of record.

I can understand, given the nature of partisanship, that you would not be kindly disposed to me making the argument that I am. How about coming from Ponnuru over at NRO? He has the cred to be listened to and not seen as a troll, no?
"As a political matter, it undercuts the case against Obama. Conservatives are pointing out that it is tricky for the Obama campaign to raise the issue of her inexperience given his own, and note that the presidency matters more than the vice-presidency. But that gets things backward. To the extent the experience, qualifications, and national-security arguments are taken off the table, Obama wins."
Couldn't have said it better myself.
Y'all should also realize that the field is really tilted for the Dems this year. Obama's relative inexperinece, and, to a lesser extent, McCain's distance from the GOP brand, were pretty much the ONLY factors that could possibly forestall a Dem win. Now that first one is gone as an argument. Ooops....

I think there are plenty of positives and negatives to this choice; however, if you think she is going to pull Hillary supporters just because she is a woman, that would be quite a stretch.
The concern over her not being ready for president may be valid since McCain is 100 years old.
If anything happens to Obama, there seems to be a capable backup.
She is a huge grab for the conservative base. She is Pro-life (which I guess means she is anti-death penalty and abortion).
She has strong ties to labor unions, a nice addition to the McCain ticket, but doubtful to move the union loyalists to the right.
I think that she is a big risk, but she could present a HUGE reward to McCain, just his style!
I look forward to the RNC, but think if McCain has a chance to stand for change, he must stand up at his own convention and fight the recent republican platform to prove he is a maverick and a reformer. It might just be what the Republicans have in store...
I think that Obama made a better VP selection, but I also think he had to. As far as who can say what about the other candidate or VP, who cares... All that talk is just noise... If I voted against someone because of ridiculous comments I would deserve an idiot to lead me... its would be a perfect match.
My one beef with the Republicans: Not standing up and dispelling the false e-mails that have been circulating about Obama as the Anti-Christ... As Christians, they should re read Revelations to know that it never mentions Islam because Mohammed came years after Jesus. Not to mention the fact that Revelations is a cryptic book written in a time of religious persecution to guide believers in the fight against their rulers.

Palin braces the ticket across a much stronger spectrum of the Republican party from RINOs to hard core CFRS such as myself.
p.s. Big Mac (lifetime ACU ~84)is slightly to the right of true RINOs like Stevens (lifetime ACU ~60).

Palin has business experience, Hussein does not, not even a hot dog stand. Palin has executive experience as governor, Hussien has a speach someone else wrote and he gave years ago. Palin is a real human, Hussein O is not. Palin keeps a baby with special needs, Hussein O throws them in the garbage, sometimes alive. Well he didn't do it with his own hands but he enabled it to be done so the blood is on someone else's hands. Palin's life is an open book, Hussein O's is hidden from birth to date.

Corey--
I thought it was crazy to think a pro-life Republican woman would pull in Hillary supporters until I read some of today's posts from Hillary supporters.
They're going to vote McCain/Palin. They are so angry at the way their candidate was treated that they will vote for the Republican ticket. I didn't believe it was possible, but it's true.
As far as your claim about the Antichrist is concerned, do you believe the Bible or do you not? If Revelation describes things to come, then whether or not those things existed at the time the prediction was made is surely irrelevant?
We cannot start a war against the Taliban, or the Jihadists, or terror. War has been declared against us. And why is it wrong to try to stop terrorism? How is that terrible?
Re that trooper business: Palin's damned if she does, and damned if she doesn't. Fire him, and she's using her office to side with her sister. Don't fire him, and she's using her office to play preferences. And in what mad universe would it be acceptable to taser a child because he "wanted to know what it felt like"?

Time was, I would have given JM and even TPM some credit for honesty amidst the noise, but that time has passed.
She wasn't "forced to admit" anything. She stated, at the beginning, that she had no knowledge her aide was doing that, and certainly never suggested to him that he do it, nor pressured him to do it. THAT was what she had been accused of. THAT was what she has since disproven.
TPM must have realized tonight that they're gonna see four more years of a Republican presidency, and it unhinged them, and pushed them over the line from partisans, to partisan liars. So much for honor, eh, guys?

Well when you consider it, Obama has close ties to several ties to US Terrorists. William Ayers who was responsible for several terrorist attacks on US soil during the 1960's, and had the unfortunate experience of stating in the September 11, 2001 issue of the the Chicago Sun Times "I feel we did not do enough."
Obama worked with him on several projects in Chicago, announced his candiacy for president in Ayers home.

What Joe Citizen and others are trying to do in their arguments about Palin, Obama, and inexperience is to control the narrative.
That is, they want to argue the issue on terms they control. "Imagine that all people were really good. Would current military spending be justified?"
You saw this full-blown when Obama threw REV Wright under the bus. Suddenly, the focus of the issue wasn't what Wright had said, or Obama's 20 years of attending Wright's church.
No, the issue was that Wright had said the same sort of things at a press conference after Obama had said positive things about him. Thus, rather than "throwing him under the bus," it was a justified reaction to Wright's betrayal.
Notice how it was also a blatant attempt at refocusing the issue onto Obama being justified, rather than Obama having acted in a questionable way.

sorry to delete the comment you were responding to, Urban, but I don't care for lies. The only direct comment she's made about creationism is this:
"Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information.
"Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.
"And, you know, I say this, too, as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject — creationism and evolution.
"It's been a healthy foundation for me. But don't be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides."
She--the daughter of a science teacher--supports a free exchange of ideas so that people can decide on their own which they want to believe. What a scary idea, this concept of intellectual and religious freedom.
I guess to fanatical atheists, that freedom is close enough to creationism for them to go on a bender, but it isn't intellectually honest.
Full disclosure: I'm not a creationist, but I'm offended by them, either.

It's Palin!
Oops, sorry.
This one.
I guess we'll know soon enough, won't we?
Update: Mark Levin makes
the case for the Alaskan Governor:
Palin is by all accounts a principled conservative and government reformer who can contribute mightily to the decision-making that occurs in the White House. She has more executive experience in her two years as governor than Obama, Biden, and McCain combined. She is a mother of five in what appears to be a loving and functioning family. And she is someone Republicans, conservatives, and others can rally behind in the future.
From a purely tactical aspect, Palin would knock the legs out from under Obama's monopoly hold on "change." And attacks on her "inexperience" will only highlight one of Obama's greatest vulnerabilities — and he's at the top of the Democrat ticket. And because Hillary Clinton spent months telling women voters that they are being dissed by Obama, some percentage of women who normally would not vote for McCain will take a second look if Palin's on the ticket. There is no question that a Palin selection would cause the Obama camp headaches.
Bill Kristol ,
MSNBC, and the
Chicago Tribune just called it for Palin according to their sources as well.
Is it true that Palin is McCain's Veep pick, or an elaborate head-fake?
We'll now within a few hours, but if it is Palin, I think Levin is right... providing she doesn't have any significant skeletons in her closet, she's going to be a huge problem for Obama on a number of fronts. Check out her
Wikipedia biography. It has to terrify Obama's camp.
All the major networks are now quickly confirming. Over at Hot Air, they are

Should be a FUN campaign. I look forward to putting the McCain/Palin bumper sticker alongside my "ReElect Dino Rossi" bumper sticker and driving around Seattle.

Her willingness to take on corrupt fat-cat Republicans is just what McCain needs by his side to bolster his Maverick image, while her fiscal conservatism helps the rest of us hold our noses to vote for him. She isn't perfect, but she brings everything to the table that is needed.
Obama should save his money and drop out.
Of course, the MSM will do their best to turn her into a whore, thief, racist, whatever in the voters eyes. But then the PUMAs will be watching.

After reading her Wikipedia bio (yes, I know. don't trust Wikipedia), I am fascinated to see how this will play out.
On the one hand, I don't think she has enough experience; either for the world class level of battle that she will enter or for the presidency.
On the other hand, she is one of the best steps forward to demonstrate the direction of the Republican party: away from cronyism and pork-barrel politics as usual and towards a more responsible form of republic.
And her gender is important too. It can be a negative (just playing identity politics) or a positive (qualified AND once again the evil Rethuglicans demonstrate that they are for real gender equality).
It all depends on how well they execute during the race.

the other ed--
Mondale didn't lose because his running mate was female. Mondale lost because he and his running mate were both left-wing extremists.
Experience is vital, and Palin has it. She has been both a mayor and a governor, while neither man on the Democrat ticket has any administrative experience at all.

She was mayor of a town of 6,700 people, some polar bears, and some seals. She's been governor for a year and a half.
Some experience.

Dinsdale is right, you gain much more relevant experience as a community organizer. Being governor of the largest state in the US is a trivial accomplishment next to that.

Swooosh!
Hear that? That's the wind exiting Obama's post convention sails.

Unlike Obama McCain didn't have to choose some one to make up for his lack of experience and ability.

Time Well Spent
I pledged my time last night to watching a dedicated, talented African-American man build his dream. Of course, I'm talking about Ice Cube in "Are We Done Yet?"
Having read Tom Maguire's
analysis of Obamamessiah's warmed-over
populist platitudes, I strongly suspect watching the dollar-rental movie was a much better value.

He'd make a hell'uva better elected offical than the offal that is running now. I'd consider voting for him.

David Neiwert's Interesting Idea of Double Standards
Firedoglake's resident shrieker David Neiwert has his underoos in a bunch because of what his addled mind considers a racist double standard regarding how various morons have been treated after threatening presidential candidates:
It seems there may be a reason federal law-enforcement officials are not interested in pursuing serious charges against the white-supremacist tweakers who were caught this week in Denver: The man making the decision is a Republican operative. And when it came to a threat against John McCain by a black man, he had a completely different approach.
The AP story describing the official pooh-poohing of the threat gives us a clue:
"We're absolutely confident there is no credible threat to the candidate, the Democratic National Convention, or the people of Colorado," U.S. Attorney Troy Eid said in a statement.
But when a black man in prison sent John McCain a threatening letter containing baby powder, it was another story altogether:
The man accused of sending a threatening letter to John McCain through McCain's Colorado headquarters office detailed the contents of his letter in an exclusive interview with 7NEWS Friday.
Marc Ramsey, an inmate in the Arapahoe County Jail, admitted that he sent the letter. On Friday afternoon, the US AttorneyTroy Eid announced Ramsey will be charged with knowingly threatening to harm or kill through the U.S. mail. The charge is punishable up to five years in federal prison and up to $250,000 fines.
"We won't stand for threats of this kind in Colorado," Eid said. "A death threat is not a legitimate form of political expression," Eid said.
Hmmmm. Let's see: Men with rifles, a caches of other guns and ammo, all talking about killing Obama ... they're not a "serious threat." But a man in jail sending baby powder, well, that's a "serious threat."
Lighten up, Francis.
Despite the injustices seen in the black-helicopter rantings of Neiwert, reality is something quite different.
Marc Ramsey, the black inmate, managed to successfully send the MCCain campaign the following
letter, laced with a white powder.
Senator McCain,
IF you are reading this then you are already Dead!
Unless of course you can't or don't breathe.
There are numerous substances which are deadly for humans to inhale.
There are just as many time periods for signs of illness to show, by which time it's to late.
Who expects to develop cancer 40 years after Vietnam?
Only those that knew the risk and side effects of Agent Orange.
DoD, DOW, Diamond Shamrock, U.S. Surgeon General
You're out of time.
Allahu Akbar
Akeem Ramsel El
For the threat, Ramsey faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The three morons that Neiwert thinks is getting off lightly? They're only doing so in Neiwert's bizarre
community-based reality:
Shawn Robert Adolf, age 33. Adolf is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, one count of possession of body armor by a violent felon, and one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
Nathan Dwaine Johnson, age 32. Johnson is charged with one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
Tharin Robert Gartrell, age 28. Gartrell is charged with one count of possession of Methamphetamine.
If convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the defendants face not more than 10 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possession of body armor by a violent felon, the defendant will face not more than 3 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine. If convicted of possession of Methamphetamine, the defendants face either 2 years in federal prison, or up to 20 years, depending on the amount of Methamphetamine possessed.
Adolf faces a sentence ranging up to 15 years and up to a $500,000 fine, or up to 35 years if he was arrested with enough meth.
Johnson faces a sentence ranging up to 12 years and up to a $250,000 fine, or up to 33 years if he was arrested with enough meth.
Gartrell, the high-on-meth driver that started this whole mess with a traffic stop, faces 2-20 years in prison.
And yet in Dave Neiwert's fantasy world, it is these guys are getting off lightly compared to the self-described terrorist sympathizer's potential sentence of up to five years.
That's some racist double standard.

Dave Neiwert is a super genius who sees dangerous wingnuts lurking around every corner and conspiracies hatched by evil conservatives to persecute peace and freedom loving progressives. The man can split atoms, with his mind.
