Environment Victories = Freedom's Defeat
The anti-freedom North Carolina Conservation Network has released it's victory list of the 2006 North Carolina Legislative session. Every single one of their "victories" was a loss of freedom.
$179,000 for "Shellfish pollution monitoring" -- from the taxpayer, of course. While legislators are claiming to have cut the budget "to the bone," they're spending tax money to map shellfish water surveys. How much bread could "the poor" buy with $179,000? How much of the $2 Billion tax increase this year was wasted on such programs?
If you dare to get your water from a private well on your own property, the "victory" achieved this year was that you might not be able to drink your own damn water if the state decides it's not "safe" enough for you. They put in new standards, with additional spending for testing and compliance for
private drinking wells. Sorry, no freedom for you.
The legislature passed a ban on throwing away trash, calling it a moratorium on landfills. There's no word on whether you should just empty your trash containers on the front lawn of the legislature, or whether you should dump in in the legislative chambers themselves.
They also claimed victory when the legislature, by fiat, declared all school children safer -- because they limited arsenic in treated wood. The fact that this had nothing to do with actual safety, except actually making the wood products LESS safe because they cannot be treated for exposure, is not mentioned.
Oh, and the legislature passed numerous "studies" that will spend piles of cash because they literally have unlimited cash to spend.
So as your freedom decreases and your taxes increase; while there is zero change in the environment, feel free to thank the North Carolina "Conservation" Network. The only thing they are apparently interested in conserving is their own jobs and government spending on themselves.

I guess I can't complain too much about something that I don't have to pay for -- unless I'm a Democrat, then I can declare that I'm entitled to free email...I seem to be getting this error more and more often. Anyone else?

So, if you're waiting for email from me, it might be awhile.

Border Patrol Agents Sentencing
Folks, this issue is really a travesty. If you haven't heard about this, please do pay attention -- it shows the heart of the current battle against the illegal invaders from Mexico.
Two Border Patrol agents are about to be sentenced for enforcing the border laws -- and they may get sent to prison for 20 years -- FOR ENFORCING THE BORDER LAWS.
Please do read this post in the extended entry. What is happening here is very, very wrong. It is not very often that I promote signing any of the hundreds of petitions that are promoted on the internet, but this one is really, really big. If these agents are sentenced, it will complete the absolute and total neutering of any attempt at a southern border.

EXACTLY!
That's why this is such an important issue. If this punishment goes on as planned, that is the final result of the border patrol. They will be placed IN PRISON if they actually attempt to enforce the border!

Unimaginable, but somehow, likely. This IS the state of our southern border. It is NO exaggeration to say that if they receive this sentence, WE WILL HAVE NO BORDER.

I remember when the news first came out about this and thinking, "so much for any further recruitment of good people or any future initiative on the part of other BP officers".
I've seen this happen with city cops in a few places -- a few are disciplined for violating some PC code or other or brought up on charges for something they were forced to do in the heat of an adrenalized situation, and their brother cops just say, "okay, fine -- from now on, I'm not taking any more risks... I'll just keep a low profile and throw in my papers with 20."

I am ashamed of our American government. This can't be happening! What, so now it's okay to disrepect America, bring illegal drugs and people into America? Dirty America up with the sludge that has to sneak in, sell drugs and have no loyalty to our country? WE the people must join together and STOP the insane decisions that are made by those that are not putting America and her best interest before their own. THIS IS AMERICA. We have every right to protect her borders and we should protect her borders at any cost. I am glad those two border patrol agents were there protecting America's borders and stopped the illegal, disrespectful SOB that was smuggling drugs into America. It is too bad that there are not more of them like that protecting our borders. They put their lives on the line daily and what does our government do. I will tell you. They put together all of these BS policies and procedures as to how America's borders can be protected. We all know what that means. Were suppose to shake their hand as they walk across the border with their drugs and whatever other junk they bring with them and then pat them on the back. Other countries protect their borders why can't America? I am distgusted that our government would allow such nonsense to take place. Charge and convict border patrol agents? Unbelievable!! They may get 20 years or longer in prison for doing their job. Oh, but the illegal drug smuggler, gets a handshake and a pat on the back. The illegal gets amnesty and medical treatment and now claims his civil rights were violated. Please. He didn't have any civil rights, he was illegally crossing the border. We must do whatever we can to save these hero's from spending anymore of their life in a cell. WE the people!!!! That is what Amercia stands for. Not,WE the government!

I told my father about this a couple of days ago. He did not believe it and said there was just no way that this could be happening as he had never heard about it before.
Let's ASSUME that the agent saw no shiny object in the guys hand....let's ASSUME that the guy was fleeing and had his back to the agent. The fact STILL remains that the PERPETRATOR INJURED his partner causing a DIRECT THREAT to their very lives AND illegal drugs were found at the scene. WHO CARES ABOUT THE SHELL CASINGS! SHOOT THE BA$&@%d.
And what is this with his 'civil rights' being violated? Um....you don't GET those UNTIL you are a US CITIZEN. Wanna fight for your Mexican Civil Rights being violated? Go right ahead....you were in the USA at the time of your felonious activities.
And...what I have only read once, but would like to know MORE about, is this FELON was arrested SINCE then for smuggling MORE drugs into our country. But oh yeah, that's okay because he has immunity and Civil Rights and he's not even a citizen...he's nothing more than a Felon, thug and drug pusher.
Thank God they postponed the hearing.
Who wants to bet that we will never see this over a TV broadcast????
The US Attorney General should be arrested and given 20 years for being not only an absolute idiot but also being aligned with drug dealers and violating a citizen's constitutional right to a FAIR TRIAL!

Indeed, the prosecutor of this case should be jailed at the least. But you're right, this will just continue under the radar until they finish this travesty.
But under the new Constitution promoted by the left, everyone on the planet has all the rights "granted" by the U.S. Constitution, with zero exceptions, EVER. That's where the left is bringing America -- sad, but true.
Thanks for stopping by!

The AG MAY consult with the Secretary, but is not required to. Both of them, however, work for Bush, who is SUPPOSED to work for the people. But that would be a representative republic, which is just a dream today.

War on Drugs
Folks, we've lost. While many complain about the money spent on the war in Iraq and the war on terror, how about the families destroyed by and the massive amount of money spent on the war on drugs? At what point do we declare victory?
Need more evidence? How about 5,000 policemen who
made a video opposing the war on drugs? And don't forget -- if you are called to jury duty in a criminal case regarding drugs, you are completely, 100% within your rights to declare a "not guilty" decision, no matter the facts. Juries ARE allowed to ignore laws -- that's why they exist!

Because they incarcerate the victims who have been hooked on the drugs instead of getting them treatment so they no longer need to purchase it. They don't put drug deals to death - like I think they should; the big cartels for sure, or put small timers in prison for life.

I don't agree with treatment, either, to be honest -- at least not government treatment. If the government would stop treating drug addicts, you can be sure private groups would be happy to do it -- and those who refused treatment, it sounds harsh, but let them kill themselves. And if they harm someone else before that, punish them for the harm they did, not for carrying around some dried leaves!

NC Judge Rules Peons Acceptable
No, really. The king judge who has decided that the North Carolina Constitution does not apply to him because "it's for the children," has ruled that the peasants have "done what I want done."
Judge Manning, who has declared himself king of education in North Carolina, had said that he would order schools closed if they didn't spend more money. How much more was not dictated, but the judge clearly outlined that HE would determine how much money the schools would spend. He then ruled that if they did not spend "enough" money, that HE, personally, would ORDER the schools to close. Last week he decided
he would permit them to open.
I wish he would have "ordered" them closed.
I wonder if the judge has ever actually read the Constitution. I wonder if he knows that spending, according to the Constitution, is to be determined by the legislative branch, and not the judicial. I wonder if he knows that creating and enforcing laws is to be done by the executive branch, not the judicial. I think he does, which is why he didn't order the schools closed -- I don't think they would have listened.

Mudslinging in NC
It's standard fare in the semi-annual political battles for the United States House -- sling mud, call names, see what "sticks" to your opponent. Of course, the first casualty of these actions is the truth. Opponents of Robin Hayes are actually claiming that Robin Hayes kills puppies. Seriously.
For those who don't want to follow the link into the sewers, the post is about a news report that 60 dogs died in a traffic accident -- and because the government didn't stop people from shipping pets so you could buy them (free enterprise), it's Robin Hayes' fault they died. And if you think that post is a joke, check the comments:
"I realized Hayes really does hold some responsibility for the ... death of those dogs."
"This is no joke"
"Robin Hayes fiddled and 60 puppies burned."
"Our favorite Foxx is on Hayes' puppy killing committee."
And this is from the self-proclaimed "reality-based" community.

Criminals Free to Hide
In case you missed it, government officials have now declared that if you are a convicted criminal and wanted for admitted crimes, you do not have to face any punishment or consequences. Instead, you may go to a church and avoid all jail time, fines, or anything else that a judge decides. It is not clear if it has to be a United Methodist Church, or if you can hide in any church you like. I'm going to email the federal authorities here in North Carolina to ask for confirmation.

Great post on Elvira. Elvira will never be arrested. I went back to 2001 interviews with Juan Hernandex and John McCain and both talked about open borders. Think NAFTA super highway, SPP.gov and Bush not securing the southern border. This sovereign country is on it's way out and we will soon be a minority answering to Hispanics and Muslims. Big business and the new world order folks will bring the North American Union. I hope I am not alive to see it. Until then I will fly my flag every day.

This illegal invader's hiding in a church is setting a dangerous precedent. And the feds are caving in. I look for many, many more such incidents.
As my flag has done every since 9/11, it flies from my front porch, and I have pig ornaments on my porch as well. The latter are a little anti-Muslim insurance.

And the Second Amendment will keep that flag flying there until I'm out of bullets. I guess that I'm like my grandmother, who held off the power company here by making the poor fellows stare down the barrel of a shotgun--the power lines went in a few blocks south of the property.
On a very serious note here...That NAFTA superhighway is so very dangerous to our national security and our national sovereignty. I'm beyond disappointed with GWB on that issue and the issue of illegal invaders.

NC Democrat "Success"
Want to know how the Democrats of North Carolina spell success? M-O-N-E-Y. Don't believe me? How about in their own words? Here's NC Senator Kay Hagan (Democrat):
We [Democrats] have also led the way in education. From 1994-2004, North Carolina was among the top states in raising teacher pay; this year we've proposed an additional 8 percent raise to help recruit and retain the best educators. Our education lottery will generate more than $400 million a year to reduce class sizes and increase college scholarships.
So literally, Democrats in North Carolina define "successful" as spending more money. Note there is nothing in that quote about anything to do with educating -- just spending more.
If you hate having your own money, keep voting Democrat.

YOu know, I've tried to comment for awhile from my cell but I'm unable to do so. While I was on Vacation in FLa I fell in love with the south all over again.
Then I visit you and my love for the south is tempered by the sad realism of what I read on your blog. I've always loved NC, especially Charlotte & Raleigh, but with what happened this week there and these types of politicians I think I'd rather look into WV or Virgina.
That is, unless the conservatives do manage to get and retain control of the GA over the next few years.

It's funny, though, since despite all their spending the quality of education is going down in NC. I assume that most of the money is going to the cost of buses to move kids from one side of town to another. Heck, in Raleigh, 10,000 students were moved to different schools.

The people and weather in NC are nice. The politics run by Democrats, are NOT nice. Sorry, Michele.
And Teach, why do you think quality of education has anything to do with success? Educating people has absolutely nothing to do with the government-run education system. Nothing. Understand that and everything will make perfect sense.

Conservatives in NC
The last couple of days, I've mentioned a few changes that would take place if the North Carolina General Assembly were run by conservatives. But what would have to take place for conservatives to actually obtain that power? Actually, if there were accurate representation in Raleigh and no gerrymandering, they'd already control it since nearly 50% of all voters self-identify as "conservative" in the state. But realistically, this year, could conservatives obtain control?
According to Max Veale, just four liberals in the House and five in the Senate could shift the entire balance of power in the state.

Property Rights: Riviera Beach, FL
Perhaps, since you hadn't heard about the fight for property rights in Riviera Beach, Fl, you thought it was all settled. If you thought that, you'd be wrong. Instead, government officials in Florida continue to use their monopoly power on force to attempt to harass and intimidate any who oppose them.
Governments are supposed to serve people, not the other way around. Any government official that's found using the power of government to harass and intimidate should be removed from power immediately -- but if the government controls the power, what power can be used? When the mayor sends the police to harass you, what choice do you have? Who can you call? Where do you go for help?

Conservatives in NC General Assembly?
What else would be different if conservatives controlled the North Carolina General Assembly? Yesterday I mentioned some of the biggest differences. But one of the most obvious differences would be the bills that would be proposed and the laws that would be passed. Hundreds, if not thousands of good conservative bills have been ignored -- often simply because of the person who proposed them. That would all change. With conservatives in charge, bills would get up or down votes. And good bills would pass.
For example, conservatives have introduced the Defense of Marriage Act three years in a row. Over 50% of the House has signed on as sponsors of the Act -- but the Act has not gotten a hearing in the House because the Democrat leadership will simply not allow it.
Conservatives would likely introduce baseline budgeting and a taxpayer bill of rights that would actually limit the utter out of control spending of the Democrats. When times are good, Democrats spend more money because they have it. When times are tight, Democrats spend more money because they need to "stimulate the economy." Conservatives would get a handle on spending.
48% of the state's residents self-identify themselves as conservatives. Isn't it about time we had a government of the people and by the people?

Cherrix Freed (Sort of)
A couple weeks ago I mentioned the story of government intrusion into personal lives when the Virginia Department of Social Services (or DPS, whatever the morons call it) demanded that a person take radiation treatment or he and his family would be locked up in jail (for his own good, of course). The family decided to fight and appear to have partially beaten the horrible government system.
The family and the
enemy scum spineless, weak-kneed power-hungry bureaucrats government agency reached a "consent decree" to avoid a hearing. According to
news reports, the boy will see an oncologist who is "interested in alternative treatments" -- so they will not be forced to receive deadly radiation therapy against their will.
However, they are also
required to "provide the court updates" on his medical condition every 3 months. Yes, that's what we need to cram the damn overcrowded court system with -- updates on a person's medical treatments. There's a great use for tax money, isn't it? And there's no word what will happen if the state-approved oncologist suggests radiation treatment and the state subject (read: peon) refuses.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Reporters Invincible
I wonder if a reporter would feel "obligated" to report a crime they witnessed. I wonder if they actually saw a person pull the trigger of a gun and murder someone in cold blood if the reporter would call for a "shield law" so they could report what they saw without actually revealing the criminals name.
That sure
seems to be the case. In the Bonds/Steroid scandal, someone broke the law. Someone was directly told by a judge to NOT reveal information about an ONGOING criminal case. That some person ran to a reporter and told them what they knew, clearly violating the judge's order. Now the judge is ordering the reporter to reveal the identity of the criminal -- and the reporters are refusing on "First Amendment" grounds.
If that's a valid excuse, then any criminal can object to any order by any judge with the same excuse. "Gee, judge, I can't tell you who I saw commit that crime because the First Amendment shields me." How about you just tell us who broke the damn law?

Someone had better show me where the words "...and reporters don't have to obey a court order to testify" appear in the First Amendment, because my copy of the Constitution sure doesn't have 'em.

Good call, Francis. Nor does it include any Right to keep their sources secret.

I think you guys have an "old" copy of the Constitution. If yours isn't written in pencil, you don't have the current liberal copy.

The Progressive Democrats' Sales Tax
I consider myself to be fairly liberal on most issues. So some of you might be surprised that I am about to take a position that’s usually the providence of hardcore conservatives. I support HR25—the Fair Tax Act of 2005.

Most sales taxes make life considerably harder for the impoverished, because they increase the cost of basic necessities
Most of the tax on inelastic goods (one definition of "necessities") is paid by the buyer, but that's true even if the tax is nominally paid by the producer in other forms, because the price goes up. As you recognize further down the page, such a change in the tax structure reduces the producers' (nominal) costs, and thus will reduce the (nominal) prices of goods, including necessities, though perhaps not by the full 23%.

Very accurate.
When the price falls for the producer, they will fall for the buyer -- presuming a free market, of course. If there is no competition (read: government monopoly), then there is no incentive for the price to drop.
Businesses "pay" so much in taxes today because they're easy targets. The businesses don't much care if the taxes go up, because they'll just charge more and make a profit. In this type of society, ALL taxes are paid by consumers.

I'm a chinese Singaporean
We have nabbed like 30 + terrorists here. 2 years ago the bunch of them tried to blow up some of our major bus terminals.
We detained most of them without
trial, some have since been released; the rest of them are still being tortured by our internal security.(mind you, i dunno
whether that's a good thing or not; just stating facts.)
Targeted the American service men in town too. And
apparently they also toyed with the idea
of crashing a plane into our iconic? Changi
traffic control tower.
http://www.changiairport.com/changi/en/index.html
Intel dug up in Afghanistan dug by you yanks helped head off the
attacks.
Letting you know that muslim terrorist aren't just a White problem:
they are a pain in the ass all over Asia.
Blowing up trains in India,
shooting Thais, planning attacks against just
about any country that is
more prosperous, more religiously tolerant and pluralistic than a typical muslim country. And more sexually liberated of course.
Did i mention they are blowing up things in China as well?
All this proves a point that Muslims all over the world have yet to accept:
there's something screwed up in their culture that's leading to
friction with people all over the world.
I won't say this is a problem
unique to Muslims - Jews and Christians in the past couldn't get
along with most other "types" of people if you like.
i rather not categorise people. You define yourself as "i'm proud to be
Muslim" or "i'm proud to be Catholic" and sooner or later you or your
children or your grandchildren r gonna sign up for Al Queda or the IRA respectively.
Be proud to be yourself and happen to be Muslim or Catholic or whatever.
Peoples who are insecure, ethno-centric are the ones that produce terrorists.
Lets put it this way: muslims claim so and so are racist
"Americans are racist"
"English are racist"
E.T.C
But! how often do you hear Chinese, Vietnamnese e.t.c complain about racism and go rioting?
Not often. They work hard, try to earn a living.
Sure there's prejudice here and there but they dun GENERALLY DONT GIVE A
FLYING FUCK.
Remember Shaq's joke about Yao Ming? He tried speaking like a chink to
mock Yao Ming.
What was yao ming's reaction? he shrugged his shoulders.
Sure some asian groups made some noise but its a squeak compared to the noises muslims make.
A china man is pretty secure. You can say hey "chink" and he won' t give a fuck. Sure he's annoyed you are trying to mock but its not like its some kind of declaration of war against his ethnic group.
I repeat: Peoples who are insecure, ethno-centric are the ones that produce terrorists.
Aussies are racists - thats a known fact. And french people can be big time assholes, but for me i would deal wiht this sort of prejudice by
working harder to prove myself. And so would most Singaporeans: they wouldn't go blowing up buildings or going around shouting
"Discrimination!"
Another fact; Racists are ALWAYS THE ONES ALWAYS CALLING OTHERS RACISTS.
A post on your forum says muslims care bout their families ( about lives ) but not about jewish families. they cheer when jews are killed.
Like when innocent jewish children are killed.
I've asked muslims in singapore whether they hate jews:
we are 10 000 miles away. the muslims here have never seen jews, never spoken to one, never even smelled one b4.
And yet invariably the answer is YES (or ambivalent-which to me is no beter than a yes)
Do jews deserve to die?
YES.
Where's the "oh the humanity of it, i wish there could be peach between
arabs and jews... "
none of that. Its just plain and simple : I hate jews.
Who;s the real racist now? Americans and Brits have their faults, but by and large a black, an asian, anybody can succede there. No problem.
So why do muslims have so many problems?
Psychologist will always tell you that in any quarrel it takes 2 to tango. A marraige fails because BOTH husband and wife are fucked up.
The american and brit govs may not be perfect.
But muslims clearly aren't either.
They should accept that.
MUSLIMS AREN'T INNOCENT
MUSLIMS AREN'T ALL TERRORISTS, BUT MOST TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIM
And most MUSLIMS ARE ABIVALENT WHEN IT COMES TO CONDEMNING
TERRORISTS.
They are ambivalent bout condemning people who blow up classrooms full of kids? Of cuddly innocent children?
And the they say they are innocent and the West is fucked up.
Who's the one who's really fucked up here?
To sum up, a few things muslims world wide should learn. Some have and they are called moderates. And they try to change their own people; i
appreciate that but for rest they really need to grow up.
i can't put it any more politely.
MUSLIMS AREN'T INNOCENT
MUSLIMS AREN'T ALL TERRORISTS, BUT MOST TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIM
And most MUSLIMS ARE ABIVALENT WHEN IT COMES TO CONDEMNING
TERRORISTS.
Racists are ALWAYS THE ONES ALWAYS CALLING OTHERS RACISTS.
Be proud to be yourself and happen to be Muslim or Catholic or
whatever.
Peoples who are insecure, ethno-centric are the ones that produce
terrorists.

Conservatives in NC General Assembly?
What is Conservatives were in control in the North Carolina General Assembly? I'm not talking about Republicans or Democrats here, but conservatives, who might happen to be Republicans or Democrats. Democrats have controlled the General Assembly, well, forever (Republicans have NEVER had control of the Senate and only one had control of the Governorship and the House). So what would be different if people elected conservatives? Chad Hinton writes about this idea in the Summer edition of the Conservative Citizen.
The biggest change would be in the leadership. Jim Black, who has ruled the House with an iron fist, and who may be taken away in handcuffs for breaking the law, would not be in charge. In the Senate, Marc Basnight has controlled that chamber for 14 years. The budget there gets written by about 3 people and everyone else is expected to vote on it. But with a conservative leader, the Senate might have rules that are actually fair, instead of having bills that the Democrats don't like "lost" in committee hearings.
The leadership would also help determine the rules for each chamber. Last year the Democrats in the Senate decided that they could suspend the rules for any period of time they wanted to. They also changed the rules for getting legislation OUT of committees. In addition, conservatives have suggested a rule that would require a waiting period before a budget vote. Currently the budget appears and is expected to be voted on within hours -- giving those who did not write the bill (everyone but the leadership) no possible way to actually READ the bill. Conservatives have suggested that they would require giving legislators enough time to actually READ bills before they vote on them -- what a concept.
Think it's time to vote for conservatives yet?

New Renter!
The renter is about to leave, but not before I get a chance to mention him! This week, Full Metal Photography has been linked to in the upper left corner. Now there's some REALLY great pictures over there, so if you've got a few moments, head on over and take a peek.
There's also a story about a "confrontation" regarding taking photos of allegedly "banned" things. He very eloquently makes the point about freedom of speech and provides advice for other photographers of "sensitive" items.
