Conservatives in NC General Assembly?
What else would be different if conservatives controlled the North Carolina General Assembly? Yesterday I mentioned some of the biggest differences. But one of the most obvious differences would be the bills that would be proposed and the laws that would be passed. Hundreds, if not thousands of good conservative bills have been ignored -- often simply because of the person who proposed them. That would all change. With conservatives in charge, bills would get up or down votes. And good bills would pass.
For example, conservatives have introduced the Defense of Marriage Act three years in a row. Over 50% of the House has signed on as sponsors of the Act -- but the Act has not gotten a hearing in the House because the Democrat leadership will simply not allow it. Conservatives would likely introduce baseline budgeting and a taxpayer bill of rights that would actually limit the utter out of control spending of the Democrats. When times are good, Democrats spend more money because they have it. When times are tight, Democrats spend more money because they need to "stimulate the economy." Conservatives would get a handle on spending. 48% of the state's residents self-identify themselves as conservatives. Isn't it about time we had a government of the people and by the people?
