Go Gators!
I like the Florida Gators. Sure, I like Big Blue, too, but I really like the Gators. I was really glad to see them picked to head to the National Championship Game. They're going to have to be really "on" to beat the bean-people from Ohio.
I wish them luck, but unfortunately, I'll not see the game. You see, I hail from a time when college sports was about the game, not cash. I liked when all the bowl games were on January 1st. I really liked watching more than one game all afternoon. Since they moved games to after the 1st, I haven't watched a single game. I'm not interested in supporting them for spreading the games out. So I'll cheer for them, I'll rejoice if they win, but I'm not watching them.
Yeah, I'm in the minority, but that's not uncommon.

Illegals Deadlier Than War On Terror
by
American Daughter
This past Thanksgiving evening, a United States Marine who was home from Iraq was driving with his date, when another car smashed into theirs and killed them both. The other driver, who was not even injured, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
On the early broadcast news in Washington, DC this morning (Thursday, November 30th), some stations carried the report of this incident, and described the drunk driver as an “illegal immigrant.” By the time the 7 AM news came on, that version of the story had been quashed.
The
main-stream media versions of the story do not mention the illegal status of the accused driver:

More Filth in NC Politics
Have you heard the latest in the elections in NC? How about one candidate that was supported by the political party that clearly and openly broke elections laws? And then, when their opponent complained, they were ignored. After all, when Democrats in NC break election laws, they aren't prosecuted and nothing is done -- because the Attorney General and the Board of Elections are both Democrat. And no, this isn't the first time.
The only Democrat being investigated (Jim Black) has already been declared guilty -- but faced zero punishment because, again, the board of elections is Democrat. The only reason he faces the possibility of any actual punishment is because the federal government has been forced to intervene.
Sorry, freedom, including free elections, are simply NOT welcome in North Carolina.

NC Socialists Gaining Ground
Great news for socialists and Democrats (one and the same) in North Carolina! From 2000 to 2005, the amount of the state under the complete and sole control of the state has doubled from 6 million acres that was prohibited from public ownership or use; to 12 million acres that free people have no say over.
Oh, and don't worry, if you worked at any time over that time period, YOU helped to pay for the state to take that land away from the public and place it under total rule of the state -- to the tune of $670 million.
And yes, the state will, somehow, not have enough money this year, so they'll be needing to raise taxes -- to continue to pay for these sorts of actions, not "the children" as they will lie and tell you.

More Government Trouble
Hey, another lawsuit. What a shock. This time it's a man suing government because he's not allowed to sell a beer with a label that has Santa on it. Oh, and the name of the beer is "Santa's Butt." Great.
At first it sounds like a silly lawsuit. After all, if this were a free country, then anyone could choose to sell any beer they want. This man doesn't have the absolute right to force someone else to sell his beer. But then you have to understand Maine (and way too many other states): all alcohol is sold by the state, not individuals.
Now the man has a very valid point and should win his lawsuit. When government regulates the products sold (as they shouldn't), they have to adhere to the U.S. Constitution. They're not allowed to supress freedom of speech on beer labels.
Now the only reason this situation even exists is because the state has crammed itself into the business of alcohol sales. If they didn't sell beer, this wouldn't be an issue. One again, overreaching government causes MANY more problems than it solves. Stupid government.

Help the Homeless? Go to Jail.
Update: In a victory for common sense, and in no part thanks to the internet, Fairfax county will not jail you for feeding the homeless. Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly grew some courage and told the health department officials to not enforce the law. No, no, he didn't call for the removal of the law, he just ordered the county to ignore it. (H/T AOW).
*** Original Post: ***
Well, that's what will happen in
Fairfax county, VA now. Why? Because the government says so. And government is always right. Shut up now, don't argue. Do as government says, work harder, and do NOT help the homeless or you WILL be thrown in jail.
I know, you're thinking that Ogre is getting carried away. But I'm not making this up.
Under a tough new Fairfax County policy, residents can no longer donate food prepared in their homes or a church kitchen
So, if you bake a casserole and give it to the homeless in Fairfax County, you will be jailed. Now the total a-holes in government claim that it's for "public safety." Apparently there's been a huge rash of people baking cakes in their homes which they use to poison the homeless population. No?
This is just another example of overly oppressive government doing MUCH more harm than good. There is no logical, freedom-based reason for this "crackdown" on "illegal food." But that's not stopping the worthless bureaucrats at the county health department from harrassing churches and people who are trying to help people. I guess the county just wants the monopoly on helping people.
So what's the freedom-based solution? Fire the county health department. Then, once you're rid of the mindless people there, change the rules. In the meantime, the churches should openly defy the health department. Do you think the homeless will care their food isn't government certified? If they do, show them the door, too. Seriously, the churches should just continue helping the homeless as they have always done and just ignore the government -- even if they face arrest. I would.

Pro-Business Legislators?
Paul O'Connor tries to explain why Democrats keep winning at the state level in NC, but keep losing at the federal level. He claims it's because the Democrats are pro-business. Clearly Mr. O'Connor doesn't follow politics very closely. The primary reason that Democrats keep winning the House and the Senate is gerrymandering! For the past decade or more, the MAJORITY of voters in North Carolina have voted for Republicans in the Senate and the House, but due to gerrymandering, the Democrats retain control.
Now watch this attempt at spin:
As one corporate lobbyist explained, her company is not politically conservative. It supports adequate state funds for public education, roads and other state services to support a good business climate.
In other words, her company is politically socialist. They want MORE government spending on education, more spending on roads, more spending on "state services," and more giveaways to corporations in the form of free land, tax benefits, etc.
That's what business has become in North Carolina, due to the one-party rule (Democrats) for the past century. North Carolina has become a socialist state, even if not openly. Don't believe me? Take a look around. Look at how many businesses receive cash or "incentives" from the government. Can you find any business with more than 50 employees that doesn't? That's socialism: government control of businesses. And that stinks.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

Democrats are pro-business? Not in North Carolina. In fact, some Republican officeholders are pro-business.
Paul O'Connor should campare the record and positions of any Democrat state senator with that of Senator Fred Smith, a conservative who believes in the free-market.
This is all part and parcel of the Democrat Party trying to convince Americans that they aren't the socialist and neo-Marxists they truly are.
Fill the state house and senate with Fred Smiths and then you'll see a state that is pro-business.

They are pro-business: if you define pro-business as someone who takes money from the taxpayer and gives it to the big business. And yes, that is socialism. And that's what the news media is considering "pro-business."

When I was a teenager, a representative of the federal government explained why the price of sugar went up sharply in a short period of time. He said that before the price went up, America was buying much of its sugar at inflated prices from a country that we wanted to assist in some way. After that deal fell apart, we had to buy our sugar from the normal, open market at non-inflated prices and that's why the price went up so quickly.
It's been almost 30 years since I heard that and I'm still working on the math.
Posted by: Weapon of Mass Disturbance at December 04, 2006 03:06 PM (j4p/t)
4
Makes perfect sense to me.
Let's say sugar, on the open market, costs $10. To assist a foreign market that we want to help, we will buy sugar from them for $15. But people would never pay $15 when they can get it for $10, so government has to pay $8 of each $15 spent on sugar from the foreign country. Then the people get to buy sugar for $7 (not understanding that they're paying the whole $15 because it's taxpayer money that's paying the rest).
Then, when the "deal" falls apart, people have to pay the market price to get sugar ($10) because the government isn't propping up the price any more.
It absolutely sucks, but that's just one way government massively interferes with the free market.

Winner!
Hey. Didya notice? Yep, with one day left in NaNoWriMo, I actually did it. 50,000 words in 29 days. And heck, I didn't even write on the weekends. Nice.
Now I have two things left to do -- First I have to actually finish the story. I have just the epilogue to go, but I haven't decided what's going to happen in it. For those interested, you can read the
last chapter and see where I'm left. Without a deadline looming over me, I hope I actually finish the story!
Next, if I get it done, I need to go back and fix the darn thing. There's all sorts of editorial problems. Heck, in the first draft, one of the people was given a vial, but by the time he needed to use it, I needed it to be a string. And no, I didn't go back and edit, that's the whole point of NaNoWriMo.
So hey, if you like writing and always wanted to write a book, why not join us crazy people come next November and write your own? I know you don't have time, neither did I...

Muslim Takeover
First, let me get this out of the way: A very large number of members of the muslim religion DO want to take over the world. They want their law in place and enforced by government agencies. If you don't believe that, feel free to stick your head back in the sand.
Now,
Always on Watch has
outlined one way they're doing that in England. They are instituing Sharia law. They ARE forcing their religion on everyone else. But they're not stopping there.
FrontPage Magazine and
The Washington Post highlight an area of Maryland where Muslims are gathering. These are relatively peaceful muslims, in that they're not openly beheading their opponents (yet). Instead, they're trying to work within the American system to take it over. And yes, they're working with Democrats.
The problem is that their system of law is simply not permitted in this country under the Constitution that formed this country-- or is it? Now, they, with the aid of terrorists in CAIR, are trying to claim anything that prevents them from instituting their law in America is a supression of their religion, which they claim under the First Amendment. So we have a rather unique situation.
The First Amendment to the US Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Therefore, based on that text, muslims claim they are free to exercise their religion. And their religion
requires them to "behead those that insult Islam." In addition, there are dozens and dozens of laws that need to be enforced by government, in order for them to exercise their religion.
However, this conflicts with Article IV, Section 4:
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
Well, they simply overcome that idea by having "elections." You know Saddam was "elected," don't you? That's where Democrats and Republicans are moving with Gerrymandering, and the muslims are moving right along with them. Both the muslims and the Democrats agree that if the majority vote for no freedom, then you get no freedom. After all, there is no higher power in their minds than government.
So, what's to stop Maryland and Dearbornistan from insituting Sharia law if they simply vote it in?

What gets to me about muslims across the world is they just don't get it. They wonder why everyone thinks they are violent and out to conquer the world. They say "violence is against Islam" and stuff like that. But when someone draws a cartoon of Muhammad, there are violent riots in the streets. When was the last time a caricature of the pope caused violent protests? They complain the West is intolerant, but they should take a good look at themselves.

They don't care, High Fashion. They honestly don't. Their mandate is to take over the world, period. They even have a word in their religion that means it's perfectly okay to lie at will if that lie will help them take over the world. I don't think their religion has a world for hypocrisy.
Posted by: Ogre at November 30, 2006 07:56 PM (oifEm)

Ogre,
"They even have a word in their religion that means it's perfectly okay to lie at will if that lie will help them take over the world."
It's called taqiyya (There are variant spellings). Anything uttered which furthers the cause of Allah is permissible.
Muslims are using our freedoms against us. Brigitte Gabriel has frequently mentioned that, and in her speeches delineates how that happened in Lebanon a few decades ago. Beirut used to be an open city--and a thriving one, at that. No longer!
And let's not forget that Hezbollah was democratically elected in Lebanon. The same is happening here as Muslims take political office and start pushing their agenda.
I believe that before long (within 2 years?) we could well see that any criticism of Islam will be a crime known as hate speech. Ellison and Conyers are going to try to see to that. And here's another strategy the liberals are using, the old bait-and-switch:
http://northernvirginiastan.blogspot.com/2006/11/jerry-kleins-spoof.html
The entire scenario of the future awaiting America is damned depressing.

Ogre:
We do need to do something. Last week I wrote letters to both my Senators and to my Congressman. Still waiting for a response from one Senator and one Congressman. The letter I did get was just a form letter and never addressed any of my questions and concerns.
How the hell do we get them to listen to us? Will we have to march on Washington? What if a million Americans descended on Washington and loudly proclaim that we oppose ANY other law but the law of the Constitution and of our Judeo Christian heritage? What if we all started to peacefully demonstrate everywhere?
Can we do this? We must wake them up!
Posted by: atheling2 at December 01, 2006 05:12 AM (+7zTe)
10
I know you're on top of this, AOW. I just wish there was some way to stop it.
Atheling2, what do you want government to do? The muslims who are taking over aren't breaking the law -- that's my point. We can demonstrate against them, but there's no way to stop them using our current form of government. That's why this is so damn depressing. They're using our good nature and our freedoms to destroy this once-great country.
Posted by: Ogre at December 01, 2006 12:30 PM (oifEm)
11
I'm not talking about the Muslims and whether or not they are breaking the law. I'm talking about Congress introducing any legislation which gives Muslims special "civil rights." I'm also talking about Keith Ellison swearing in on the Koran, instead of the Bible. Why is it that he has special treatment? Did Joe Leiberman use the Torah? Nope!
It's this treating Muslims with "special" consideration that must be stopped. School programs which are endorsed by the UN to teach the joys of being a Muslim in Calif and Oregon, which were funded by the Saudis goes on right now. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals rejected parents' appeal to have this nonsense removed, which blatantly violates separation of Church and State.
You'll find more evidence of this kind of alarming patterns in our nation at Jihad Watch.
Posted by: atheling2 at December 02, 2006 10:17 PM (+7zTe)

It's incredibly scary, isn't it? Muslims are winning. Muslims are taking over this country before our eyes.
Posted by: Ogre at December 03, 2006 01:44 AM (ECkKW)

Well, that's why I think we have to start considering action: peaceful demonstrations, grass roots efforts to spread awareness, even civil disobedience.
I'm going to post something about a letter writing campaign for everyone to send to their Senators and Congressmen. We have to wake these people up!
I don't want to see our nation go down the tubes like Europe!
Posted by: atheling2 at December 03, 2006 11:55 PM (+7zTe)
14
But government cannot DO anything, short of banning the religion outright. I'm not sure there's anything wrong with that, but I don't see any way Democrats, or even Republicans, would ever consider doing that.
The only hope is for individuals, without government, to convince the muslims to give up their religion and their murderous ways.

Judge Creates New Rights
Well, isn't that special. Everyone out there who wants free housing payments for life, just go put yourself in the way of a natural disaster. Because if you do, you will have THE RIGHT to free housing for the rest of your life (and maybe your children's lives, too).
So
says US District Judge Richard J. "It's not my money" Lean, as he ORDERS FEMA to resume payments to all Katrina victims because
he Federal Emergency Management Agency failed to adequately explain why it ended the 18-month housing assistance program
In other words, until FEMA PROVES they had a reason that satisfies this one judge's personal opinion, they are required to continue paying out cash.
But wait, there's more. The judge agreed that
FEMA had violated the rights of Katrina victims by abruptly stopping housing payments.
So you've got that right. These people now have a RIGHT to YOUR money. You need to either word harder and earn more money that will be taken from you and given to these people
because they have a right to your cash; or, just put yourself in the path of another hurricane and suddenly have the right to free housing payments forever.
The right thing to do here? President Bush (who is in charge of FEMA) should tell the judge to take a long walk off a short pier. Then he should completely dismantle and abolish FEMA so there's no one left to pay the money.

Here we go again -- in the private sector, they have this item called "homeowners' insurance". I know it exists because I have a policy myself. Didn't these folks know about it? hadn't anyone told them?
On the same note, at least several million people, including me, donated money through one venue and another for Katrina relief -- that's the American way, or the way it's supposed to be; donate with your check book, not your taxes. In this way, the taxpaying public, as a whole, determines what we can afford to give.
This judge is just another one of those socialist parasites devoted to milking the government and therefore the taxpayer.
It's becoming increasingly more difficult to maintain any respect for the courts in this country, what with the rubbish that finds its way onto the bench these days, and passes for judges.

Why do you have insurance? You don't need any. If you need anything or lose anything, just ask the government and they will take it from me and give it to you. That's their job, apparently.

NC Democrat Agenda
So, what can we look forward to in the next session of the NC General Assembly, since it is now (and almost ALWAYS has been) dominated by Democrats? According to liberal Democrat; oh, I'm sorry, "independent" Lynn Bonner; there's three things that are on the top of the Democrat agenda:
1. No more executions for child rapists; mass murderers; or violent sexual predators.
2. More destruction of freedom of choice and massive fines and penalties for putting plants in one's mouth.
3. Drastically increased costs for insurance for anyone who actually works for a living.
So what will the result be? Spend more money to incarcerate violent, evil, destructive people for longer periods of time. Spend more money to enforce nanny-state laws. Increase taxes on those who exercise freedom. Spend much, much more money by giving away cash and rewarding those who are irresponsible.
Folks, that IS today's Democrat Party in NC.

Money is Prejudiced
Did you notice that suddenly, just now, paper money has become prejudiced? No, it's been fine all throughout recorded history, just now it's no longer "fair."
U.S. District Judge James Robertson (yeah, Clinton appointed him), claims that US Cash "violates the Rehabilitation Act" because it's not fair to blind people. Of course, the fact that blind people have been doing just fine with their cash has absolutely NO bearing on the case.
So, what's the liberal solution? Mess up the entire country. Force the US Treasury to completely change everything they do. Force all retailers in the country to refit every piece of equipment they own dealing with cash. Make all banks adjust everything they do. Cost the citizens billions upon billions of dollars: all because a couple people complained.
The simple and proper solution? Congress should simply abolish the Rehabilitation Act. Yeah, I know, Democrats are in charge, so the logical, simple, freedom-based solution will NEVER happen.

I dunno -- about 30 years ago I knew some blind folks in DC who ran a news stand, and they had some way of feeling a bill and knowing its denomination, no problem.
What does this guy propose, 5, 10, and 20 dollar brailles?

He wants the bills to all be different sizes -- completely changing everything that has anything to do with cash in the entire country.

Brail might work but doing away with a program that has cost the taxpayers billions and added 0 benefit would seem the better solution.

Let's go with the Democrat solution: spend as much taxpayer cash as possible without actually solving any problems so they can continue to spend more to prove they're "doing something" about the problem.

He probably got it from Europe. It really drove me nuts the first couple of months I was in Germany with the different size bills. But it certainly made it easier after a while. I agree they should abolish the Rehabilitation Act. And just say they want to change the bills to make it easier for blind or those hard of seeing. Heck, it might even help us that can't think straight. ;-)

The expense involved in changing the currency would be absolutely astronomical. Everything from bank valuts to ATMs to cash registers would have to be completely replaced. What a waste.

Ogre, I can't see cash registers needing to be changed, just make sure we make the dollars smaller. Heck, our coins are different sizes. ATM machines, again... make the new bills smaller. It might take a small change to keep them together, but that is part of the American way to make money - right? ;-) Yaa... I can't resist. Bank Vaults? Please... GRIN

You think they'll make them smaller? But then the "visibility challenged" won't be able to see them. And the ATMs and stuff just won't work with smaller bills.
Hopefully Harvey's right on this one and it will become moot quickly.

Government Blows
Get ready, North Carolina. Now if you DARE to enter a car and don't immediately put on a seat belt, you can be fined by the nanny state. No, it doesn't matter if you're in the front or back seat any more.
As I read on a forum dedicated to
The Free State:
I'll be dead and gone before I get any more liberty here in NC. I'm all done here.
No freedom shall be allowed or permitted by the Democrat-led North Carolina General Assembly.

I think I'm going to make it. 48,124 words down with 2-1/2 days to go! And to think, I was worried I was going to run out of story before I got to 50K. I'm only now at the climax of the story, so I think this may not run out of steam until near 60,000. Hooray writing! Govt vs. Govt: Illegals win
Damn, can government GET any more useless when it comes to illegal, criminal invaders? Keep in mind, these are people who have broken the law.
First up, we have the Dept of Homeland Security giving a directive that can be enforced by their goons, saying that all businesses must hire only citizens or legal immigrants. This has been the law for a long time now, some just choose to ignore it. In NC, a business, in theory, could be fined $10,000 for EACH illegal they hire. There's also federal laws against hiring non-citizens. Therefore, if you employ illegal alien (criminal invaders), YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW and can be punished.
Now, the incoming
chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee has
written a letter to a company, telling them that they will be "charged with illegal activities in violation of state and federal law" if they DARE to fire any illegal alien criminal invaders.
(H/T to
Raven and
Always on Watch.)
So, which is it? If you hire an illegal, you get fined. If you fire an illegal, you get fined. Either way, if you have a company in this once-great country, you will be fined by government simply for existing.
Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

I've already written off the concept of the govt doing anything about the criminal alien problem. We got nowhere with a Republican Congress, and with the Democrats now at the helm, by 2008, telephone recordings will probably say, "For English, hang up, gringo."

Racists Update
An update on the head racist in the US: Jesse Jackson declares a new race war. He wants there to be a perpetual war between the races because he gets to profit from the war.
Now, he's urging a boycott of the Seinfeld CD set because one of the members of the cast dared to commit a new hate crime, uttering the forbidden "n-word." However, there has been ZERO call for a boycott of Lil John and the East Side Boyz, Trick Daddy, Wu-Tang Clan, Lyfe Jennings, Ruff Ryders, Project Pat, B.G., Eddie Griffin, Tru, Jeru the Damaja, Daz, T.I.P, Big Punisha, Cappadonna, DJ Screw, Lil'Flip, Paris, Melvin Riley, P.K.O, The Pine, Play Circle, Nino, K-Sam, Lubie, LOKO, Queen Boyz, D-Roc, The 2 Tight Click, PSK-13, K-Rino, Point Blank, Raheem, Profit, ProHoeZak, Trick Daddy, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Yung Joc, A Tribe Called Quest, Ice Cube, Nas, Ice Cube, Little John, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Geto Boys, Chamillionaire, Tupac Shakur, Mobb Depp, Juvenile, E-40, Ft. Cool, Nappy Roots, UGK, Spice 1, Chingy, Prophet Posse, Ja Rule, DJ Whoo Kid, Onyx, Boogie Down Productions, Joi, Bloods and Crips, Bloods, AZ, 8Ball, Mack 10, Capleton, Erick Sermon, Mystikal, or Lucky Luciano: EVERY SINGLE ONE of which use that dreaded "n-word"
in the title of a song.

The reason is that the Lefties have a generally deep and abiding sympathy towards "revolutionaries". A criminal is a revolutionary insofar as he is rebelling (read: attacking, helping to disrupt) against the established social order, which the Left finds racist, bigoted, homophobic, etc. Criminal behavior which serves the purpose of helping to destroy the established social order and mores is applauded (see: Tawana Brawley, Mumia, William Jefferson, Bill & Hillery Clinton, Ted Kennedy, various ALF and ELF eco-terrorism, et al.).
But not all crime is equal. Crimes which don't serve the general Leftist goals of overthrowing society are typcially ignored or condemned.
Depending on who the criminal and victims are, the criminal himself may be condemned by the Left, especially if there is percieved to be some other ideological purpose (blaming the evil white male heterosexual conservatives, Big Business, etc). Some of these crimes would include the Olympic Park and Abortion Clinic bombings, the Waco and Ruby Ridge Massacres, various business scandals, etc.

And they looked from man to pig and pig to man and man to pig again, and soon it became impossible to tell the difference.
The value that anyone places upon a human life is a function of their relationship. Human life has no intrinsic value applicable to each life equally. Your best friend's life means everything. A stranger who lives thousands of miles away means almost nothing.
It's really not a liberal/conservative thing. Everyone cherry picks who should live and who should die, at least in their own mind.

Because, as I have noted in my own LJ: Pro-abortionists and anti-death-penalty advocates are wedded to the same loathsome proposition: the right to commit murder with impunity.
