Finally Stopping By to Say Hi!

I've been so busy the last few days, I'm cross-eyed. But here I am! I've finally made it over to say Hello and to thank you all for inviting me to join you.

I still have to read up on the Useful Thingies and get my archives imported, but regardless of how fast that goes, I will start regular posting on my MuNu home, Monday.

All in all, it looks like a truly excellent place to blog! I have my spiffy new site, cool banners, it's very exciting!

I done made a boo-boo

OK, I was working in c-panel yesterday tryin' to create a poll, and somehow messed up my blog. If you just put in the root directory http://tig.mu.nu/ it no longer shows my blog but shows the corrupted poll page. HELP!

CPanel and Webmail

This CPanel thing is so cool and so compelling, I fear for my job based on the sudden blow my productivity at work has taken. Frankly, I actually understand very little of it. One thing I was curious about, though, was webmail and I thought I'd throw some questions out to the community as a whole because it might be useful for others and I found nothing on point in the archives. I hope these questions are not too basic.

When I click on "webmail", I am offered the choice between: Neomail; Horde; and, Squirrel Mail. How does one choose between the three? Does anyone have any particular recommendations to make?

Also, is webmail something you find useful or desirable? Is it duplicative of, say, Gmail or any other web based email service?

Thanks in advance!

Too Good To Be True

Urgent security patch for PHP. Pixy runs handy installer program in CPanel. Hilarity ensues.

If you got a nasty message earlier when trying to post, sorry, it should be fixed now.

Update: Oh look, the cure was worse than the disease. How quaint.

Sorry about all the drama, folks.

P.S. If you are still having problems from this or anything else, email me at a n d r e w -at- p i x y m i s a -dot- n e t and I'll jump all over it.

It doesn't like me...

I keep getting this message when I try to post a new piece this morning...

Writing to '/home/mhking/www/index.html.new' failed: Opening local file '/home/mhking/www/index.html.new' failed: Permission denied

[sniff!] I didn't mean to break it! Honest!

What's the Opposite of Premature Ejaculation?

Hello, All!

If there's a such a thing as a lurker blog, it's mine. It's been sitting out there since ohhhhhh... the middle of May and I am just now getting around to posting something.

It's not good at all right now because I'm in a foul mood, but stop by some time later on once I've hit my stride.

Anyhooo, I just wanted to stop by and say hello as requested.

-Flib

PS You may know me from somewhere else but this is my top-secret-secret blog, so if you see something familiar in my 'face,' I'll thank you to keep mum as the word.

So Quirky It Is

Why is that you must replace posts in MT rather than just deleting?

(In other words, I didn't mean to soap-operafy Munuviana with the previous post! But if it refuses to go away, enjoy...)

Bug Fix For Those Exporting Entries From MT 3.0 to MT 2.64

I finally got feedback on the import issue I was having importing entries from Movable Type 3.0 to Movable Type 2.64. Here is a link and here is the text for quick reference:

At line 432 in lib/MT/ImportExport.pm:

## Make sure dates are in English.
$blog->language('english');

I believe this an incorrect specification of the language, which is used to figure out how AM/PM needs to be output. Since 'english' isn't a valid language code, MT outputs nothing for the %p (AM/PM) format code.

I've tested the following change on my weblog, and it now includes the AM/PM in an export file:

## Make sure dates are in English.
$blog->language('en');

Hope this helps!

Happy Lurker Day?

What if we have a Happy Lurker Day one day, like say Wednesday next week or something, where we turn off IP tracking for one day and encourage people to just say hello?

Or have I been smoking the funny stuff again?

Buses Considered Harmful

The lovely and talented LeeAnn links to a blog that recently got unceremoniously dumped from its host, Greeblie. I don't know that much about Greeblie, but as far as I know it was a blogging community like MuNu. Now it seems to be gone.

Which raises the question of what if something happened to me? If, for whatever reason, I couldn't attend to MuNu for an extended period, there's currently no backup Pixy in place. I'd like to do something about that; just because I get run over by a bus is no reason for MuNu to get run over as well.

I fully intend to keep MuNu not just running but growing for the next fifty years at a minimum, but buses do happen and we have to take precautions. The two critical things are the master MuNu password, and the monthly payment for the server. The first I will entrust to a couple of Munuvians. For the second, I'll probably set up a PayPal account so that people can contribute towards the running costs should that become necessary. Any other thoughts?

Both Hands Typing Away!

Yay! Both Hands is up and running. Thanks Pixy! The new digs are swell!

I'll be packing up and moving from Diaryland to Munuvania shortly, just have to get my affairs in order. And learn Moveable Type...that should only take a few years.

Greetings

Hey all, this is Howard of 3leggeddog. I just wanted to say Thanks for making me a Munuvian. I feel like one of the cool kids, now. The dogs were so excited to be here that they've already logged in and tried to post. Fortunately, they don't type quickly with one front paw, so I was able to stop them before they said something that would embarass me.

I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me in the form of, HELP! I've screwed something up!...I'll try and keep these to a minimum.

Thanks to Alex and Pixy for getting me here.

Howard

Howdy-Howdy-Howdy!

Just a quick post to say 'Howdy'.

It's Mad Mikey and I'm here at the persistance of Stevie at CaughtintheXfire and of course, Pixy.

Thank you to Stevie and Pixy for setting me up here at Munu. I hope that I prove to be worthy of this opportunity and that I make everyone giggle (man-style) and/or laugh hysterically once in while.

Please allow me to introduce myself. . .

I am very much a random, sometimes even scattered, thinker. Hence, Random Penseur. I am, at your kind invitation, one of the new bloggers joining this merry band. I will, when I recover from my befuddlement caused by the amazing amount of options presented, be found at Random Pensees.mu.nu. In the meantime, my blog sits at Blogspot. Thank you, Pixie, for the very cool opportunity to join such an interesting and talented community. And thank you, Helen, for your nomination!

With apologies to the Rolling Stones for the title of this post. I just can't get that song out of my head this morning. Still, better than Barney.

Eleventy-One Today!

There are now 111 blogs set up in the MuNu MT database. This includes the various laboratories, but discludes Xset.

Oh, and 150 bloggers. Some of whom don't exist, but still.

Hmm. 94 blogs on the 'roll. Need 6 more!

Update: Emails sent to Mad Mikey, 3leggeddog, Mrs Frinklin and Random Penseur. If someone could forward me Teresa of Technicalities' address, I'll send the welcome wagon round her place as well. Which leaves... Lynn. Right. Darn, I don't have Lynn's address either. Helllllp!

Small Delay

Hi all. I've got a whole bunch of blogs set up (and one or two more to go), and I just need to check that the logins work and send out the welcome emails. Unfortunately, my Windows PC blew up and I've spent the past couple of hours fixing that instead of doing the other. And now it's 2:15 am.

Of course, I spent most of the day watching silly anime, but I blame it all on Microsoft anyway. But people waiting on new blogs should hear from me in the next 24 hours, and after that I'll get back to people wanting to import entries from their old blogs. (Hi Linda!) And then I need to do some work on the MuNu forums, and then on the MuNu home page, and then...

Speaking of the MuNu home page, I'd like to make it a group blog.* Not a blog for the group, the way Munuviana is, but a blog by the group. Probably it would lean towards the more serious/analytical/newsworthy stuff, but interleaved with cheesy humour. And I think the best format would be short excerpts and links back to the individual MuNu blogs. So it would be a sort of rolling Carnival of the Munuvians. What thinkest thou?

* Because I sure ain't doing much with it...
