Finally Stopping By to Say Hi!
I've been so busy the last few days, I'm cross-eyed. But here I am! I've finally made it over to say Hello and to thank you all for inviting me to join you.
I still have to read up on the Useful Thingies and get my archives imported, but regardless of how fast that goes, I will start regular posting on my MuNu home, Monday.
All in all, it looks like a truly excellent place to blog! I have my spiffy new site, cool banners, it's very exciting!

oh dear ... have you tried doing a full rebuild of your blog? failing that you'll need to delete the poll code (or get someone to do it for you) and then rebuild

I went back through cpanel and deleted all the .php files in my public_html folder, which seems to have cured the problem. I am unsure why the address without the file name was calling up demo1.php instead of index.html as it had done previously, but it seemed to have had something to do with one or another of those .php files. Now I am keeping my fingers crossed that I did not mess something else up by doing that.

CPanel and Webmail
This CPanel thing is so cool and so compelling, I fear for my job based on the sudden blow my productivity at work has taken. Frankly, I actually understand very little of it. One thing I was curious about, though, was webmail and I thought I'd throw some questions out to the community as a whole because it might be useful for others and I found nothing on point in the archives. I hope these questions are not too basic.
When I click on "webmail", I am offered the choice between: Neomail; Horde; and, Squirrel Mail. How does one choose between the three? Does anyone have any particular recommendations to make?
Also, is webmail something you find useful or desirable? Is it duplicative of, say, Gmail or any other web based email service?
Thanks in advance!

The various webmail selections are just portals to your pop email server. They all do the same thing, just with different interfaces. You can set up email accounts with name@randompensees.mu.nu and then use the webmail interfaces to check them no matter where you are.

Bug Fix For Those Exporting Entries From MT 3.0 to MT 2.64
I finally got feedback on the import issue I was having importing entries from Movable Type 3.0 to Movable Type 2.64. Here is a link and here is the text for quick reference:
At line 432 in lib/MT/ImportExport.pm:
## Make sure dates are in English.
$blog->language('english');
I believe this an incorrect specification of the language, which is used to figure out how AM/PM needs to be output. Since 'english' isn't a valid language code, MT outputs nothing for the %p (AM/PM) format code.
I've tested the following change on my weblog, and it now includes the AM/PM in an export file:
## Make sure dates are in English.
$blog->language('en');
Hope this helps!

Buses Considered Harmful
The lovely and talented LeeAnn links to a blog that recently got unceremoniously dumped from its host, Greeblie. I don't know that much about Greeblie, but as far as I know it was a blogging community like MuNu. Now it seems to be gone.
Which raises the question of what if something happened to me? If, for whatever reason, I couldn't attend to MuNu for an extended period, there's currently no backup Pixy in place. I'd like to do something about that; just because I get run over by a bus is no reason for MuNu to get run over as well.
I fully intend to keep MuNu not just running but growing for the next fifty years at a minimum, but buses do happen and we have to take precautions. The two critical things are the master MuNu password, and the monthly payment for the server. The first I will entrust to a couple of Munuvians. For the second, I'll probably set up a PayPal account so that people can contribute towards the running costs should that become necessary. Any other thoughts?

The old "bus theory"... I am familiar with that form of managment!!
I think that covers things pretty well... there is a post regarding the guidelines for membership... we have Ellis Island for nominations and discussion... the helpful thingys in the sidebar... all in all a pretty good foundation.

Sounds good. Perhaps a backup monetary plan so those of us who don't have Paypal can send in our two cents.

A great idea. You didn't cover the lightning strikes or killer snakes, but being Australian these things never happen to us.
I can see the documentary now, when the TV crew follows the team into the Munu crypt to finally reveal the secrets within. I'm really hoping you put a jack-in-the-box in the crypt, just to give everyone a bit of a jolt.
More seriously, can I suggest a Paypal button anyway so we can contribute to the running costs? I know I certainly would like to give something back...aside for the annual Christmas lunch (I'm in Oz from mid Dec to early Jan again - are you around?)

I'll put the PayPal button up, and if I end up with too much money we can get a bigger server

You'll be doing the ordering again.
Was it my imagination or was it a particularly sunny Sydney summer's day that day?
Good times.
Let us know once the button is up. Maybe we'll offer that Glenn a spot in Munu one day.

Can I second LeeAnn's idea of a non-pay pal method when you get around to it? I don't have pay pal because I am relunctant to give them access to my checking account (so they can deposit 2 cents or whatever), but I very much would like to be able to make a contribution. Also, mind the subways, please. They always seem more dangerous to me than the buses.

The fellow who was running Greeblie ran out of energy and money, as I understand it, and when he decided to pull the plug, he did so without telling any of us until after the fact. Which meant our blogs were here one day and had gone kablooie the next. No archives or anything left.
I would be interested in MuNu, if you will e-mail me, please.

Hi all. I've emailed Jordana, and hope that she will make MuNu her new home.
As for non-PayPal contributions - probably the best thing would be if some kind USian Munuvian with PayPal could collect the contributions in other forms and forward them? I know that if you were to send me a cheque, the banks would probably eat the whole thing and then some in fees. (Banks. Grrr!)

Isn't this the correct format:

It looks like tha right format to me... although Pixy is the expert on it.
You might try this post... there is a link in the comments too that may help. I hope that helps you out some.
You may want to do a search or post a question on the MT Support Forum (link in sidebar)... you'll get a pretty quick response. May sure to tell them you are using MT 2.6 and what software you are importing from.
In any event, if you cannot get it worked out, Pixy would be the man help you with that specific problem. I just kind of help out with the tempaltes and stylesheets thingys, he is the gura or all thingys technical and such.

Greetings
Hey all, this is Howard of 3leggeddog. I just wanted to say Thanks for making me a Munuvian. I feel like one of the cool kids, now. The dogs were so excited to be here that they've already logged in and tried to post. Fortunately, they don't type quickly with one front paw, so I was able to stop them before they said something that would embarass me.
I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me in the form of, HELP! I've screwed something up!...I'll try and keep these to a minimum.
Thanks to

Thanks for welcoming me into your home! I sent you an e-mail Pixy, but my e-mail address is also here in this post. Is it possible to change my new URL to YourMooseyFate.mu.nu?

It's even possible that I already set you up with both!

Mr Pixy: Should we increase the number of posts in the list of lastest group posts in the sidebar?

Hmm. It's already getting kind of long.

I agree, but so is the blogroll... how much does adding to the number add to the load time... the sidebar still is shorter than the content column... just wondering out loud....

Yeah, it's not really a load time issue, just a do-we-really-want-to-list-the-last-three-hundred-posts issue.

Small Delay
Hi all. I've got a whole bunch of blogs set up (and one or two more to go), and I just need to check that the logins work and send out the welcome emails. Unfortunately, my Windows PC blew up and I've spent the past couple of hours fixing that instead of doing the other. And now it's 2:15 am.
Of course, I spent most of the day watching silly anime, but I blame it all on Microsoft anyway. But people waiting on new blogs should hear from me in the next 24 hours, and after that I'll get back to people wanting to import entries from their old blogs. (Hi Linda!) And then I need to do some work on the MuNu forums, and then on the MuNu home page, and then...
Speaking of the MuNu home page, I'd like to make it a group blog.* Not a blog for the group, the way Munuviana is, but a blog
by the group. Probably it would lean towards the more serious/analytical/newsworthy stuff, but interleaved with cheesy humour. And I think the best format would be short excerpts and links back to the individual MuNu blogs. So it would be a sort of rolling Carnival of the Munuvians. What thinkest thou?
* Because I sure ain't doing much with it...

Hey, this post is number 666 for Munuviana. Does that mean it's an evil post?

A MuNu Carnival? Down south we's call that a RoDeo.

What's the name of that blog with the parrot on the front page that links to a bunch of different sites everyday... the main page in white, the post has a thin black outline around it, the sidebar is on the right... inoperable terrain?
Anyway, we could set up the MuNu site to display excerpts from all the group and each post excerpt links back to that site... maybe only display 1 days worth of posts as the daily list will be pretty extensive...
Then, we could figure out a way to pimp the site and draw additional traffic to our members sites... maybe classify the blog site by a category label like humor, lifestyle, sports, entertainment, commentary, poli-right or poli-left or poli-center and on and on so the browsers would know what style site they were linking to... maybe that might be a little crazy...
