Can This Be Done???

I was curious if there were such things as Subdomains within the greatness that is Munuviana.

I had wanted to build a little blog for the nine yr old as a means for her to improve her writing skills during what is left of the summer, and M-blog just isn't as friendly as I'd like it to be. I would have so much more parental control if I could set her up as a little corner of my own world. And with the nonsense you see on the web and in the non-virtual world today, that's something I have to take pretty seriously.

Shoot, I even have a banner all built for her.

Is this even possible?

Doing My Bit For the Good Of All Munuvians

Well if Pixy Misa can take a break from this to add a bunch of new Mu.Nu blogs., the least that I can do is to update the Pull Down Blogroll.

Already Needing Help!

Hello,

I need help from someone a little more knowledgable on importing files to Movable Type from a previous Movable Type blog. I exported the file, saved it as a text file and uploaded it to a directory called import. Went to import in MT and all I get is this:

Importing entries into blog 'Patriot Paradox'
Importing entries as author 'Nick Queen'

All data imported successfully! Make sure that you remove
the files that you imported from the 'import' folder, so that
if/when you run the import process again, those files will not
be re-imported.

Is it just me?

Consent of the Governed

I haven't been posting to Consent of the Governed like I should. I moved and got a new job, yada yada yada.

I'd like to see that blog bet up and running better, and on a more consistent basis.

I just posted a new article there. Check it out.

If even he's checking it out again, so should you. I'm looking for feedback on turning the showcase into a link-based contest. Let me know...

Is This Thing On?

Fellow Munuvians, I posted this over at Ellis Island a couple of days ago - traffic there has been slow, I guess. I'll repost here.

Hello All,

I just wanted to offer a site for absorption! It's my friend, Howard, from 3 Legged Dog. You can find him here . He's a good friend of mine, and I think he would make an excellent addition to the mu nu family. He is helpful, warm, caring, and easy to get along with. He would also give you the shirt off his back. AND! AND! He has a damn good sense of humor. I think this is a great quality - there can never be too much of it. Please, check him out and let me know, I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT, if he could be part of this, too! And I promise not to squeeze any more commas into one sentence. Spank you veddy much.

Thanks for your time! Have a great day/evening!

Cross that off my new year resolutions list

Thanks to everyone for their support of the Showcase. If you haven't had a chance yet, please give it a look and even a plug on your site. There's been some great entries already.

I mean everybody is looking at it these days...

I'm here...sort of

Let the trumpets ring, Rusty Shackleford has joined the ranks of the great and has made the mu.nu move!!!! Sort of. Thanks to all who helped make the move possible and to Pixy for getting things set up.

Unfortunately Blogger has made a few changes since the IMPORTING YOUR ENTRIES manual was written. This means complete 'tards like me are having a difficult time making the ol' switcheroonie.

1) The dark forces over at that unnamed wholly owned subsidiary of Google no longer specify the path to your Blog Filename, so I'm not sure how to save that for later importation into MT. Also, what should said file be saved as? (text?)

2) To where should I FTP said file once I have it saved? Is there a way to create subdirectories myself? Is there some administrative access that I'm not sure how to get at?

I appreciate any help y'all can give.

Remember Personal Info?

Alright. I'm a bit confused about this. When I first came to mu.nu, my information would never be saved on the pop up version of comments, despite the fact that I checked the little box. At some point, it started doing it, and I wish to God I had remembered what I did for that to happen. Why? Well, because I recently did some computer maintenance, like deleting my cache and cookies, defrag, etc., and now it doesn't remember my info again. Can anyone tell me what I should do that it works again?

Oh, oddly, it works with other blogs, but every mu.nu site that has comments pop-up...NO DICE. Weird.

Help. I'm lazy and hate entering my info every time I want to post a comment.

Blacklist Backfire

Hey, I can't use the word "socialist" in my comments because it contains the word "Cialis." Can anyone fix this? Pixy? Anybody?

Um, what? Help requested.

I edited my main template, just to correct a spelling error in a blogroll link name. After I saved and rebuilt, all but the most recent post were missing. I just added a little post, partly as a test. It and the previous one show up, but everything from before is still missing. Did I do something dumb?

Um, what? Help requested.

I logged into my blog this evening and every post except the most recent has become center justified. At least, it appears that way on my computer. Does anyone else see that behavior on their computer? If so, any ideas on how to change it back? Some of the posts display poorly now and I'd like to fix them. However, since I haven't made any changes to my templates in a long time, I cannot fathom what the problem could be. Any suggestions? Bueller? Thanks in advance.

Thingys & Doodads - Rotating Banners

This edition of Thingys & Doodads will outline the procedures used to install rotating banner images on your website.

I can't tell you if other people notice things like new banners when they log on to a site, but I do. I see that Rocket Ted keeps fresh banners on a regular basis. Jennifer is always tweaking around with her banners and site design. Linda has displayed three or four really nice banners until she settled on her current one. This script will select a random image from a list and load that image when the page is loaded or refreshed. I use 3 images on my site. I set up Harvey's site with 8 or 10 banners (if I remember correctly). I set up Sir John of Argghhh!!! with 6 banners. Pam did all the banners for Harvey, John and me (if you want some nice new banners, she can come up with something real good for you).

There are several ways to set this up... you can just put them in your templates, you can put them in a template module and use an MTinclude statements in your templates, you can set up text files and use php includes in your templates... the last method is the best way to keep your rebuild times fast. For the purposed of this tutorial, I'll use the method for MTincludes.

Scripts and instructions are listed out in the extended entry...

I know, I know . . .

I only come around when I want to pick everyone's brains. But did we resolve the question of how to get one's blog to retain information on commenters? The worst thing is, my own blog doesn't recognize me?--how embarrassing is that? I have to re-enter my own information each time I go there. If this is happening to my "guests," so much the worse.

Let me know, O my faithful friends.

New Blog Showcase

I'm happy to announce a new blog. Following the Bear's lead I'm starting a New Blog Showcase blog. All your questions are answered here.

Of course, to get this to work, I need to spread the word and get some new blogs to start posting some gems. And what better way to appeal to the good nature of my fellow Munuvians. So please help spread the word...you may be on the way to discovering the next Glenn.
