basic html question
I want to put a copy&paste javascript on my mainpage and was almost sure all I needed was a form tag for that, but it did not work. Of course, it might be because I attempted to put a width delimiter in.
Hints anyone?

Not enough info... but I would guess that if it is a copy & paste script, you would just insert it where you wanted the output to display... maybe you would need to wrap the script in a div class to format the output... IM me on Messenger and we can work through it... or leave a link to the script source and someone can check it out for you.

OK, I finally broke something...
I finally broke something -- my entire left rail is down below my text.
The one other time I did it, I figured out that I used a "div" tag in a post and didn't close it.
I can't find any such miscue this time. I'm sure it's a stupid mistake (as I'm prone to do from time to time) but can I petition the Gods for some measure of help?
Thanks!

Mr King:
It looks like you have a close div tag right after your photo that closes the links div. See if deleting that tag clears up your problem.

Mr King:
After reviewing Jim's comment, you didn't close the table after the two images in that Madonna/Ester post. I don't know if that would cause the links to slide under, and I didn't notice them slid undee over the last tow days.

Jim & Willie, you're the closest.
As I said, it was a stupid mistake; I didn't close the table tag for the photos in the Madonna/Aunt Esther post.
Retarded.
Sue me.
Feh. (and it didn't show up until another table was built -- i.e., the GA Bloggers table on the rail -- this morning...)
Thanks everyone!

Getting centered
Hey everyone! (*waving*)
What is the code for centering in my sidebar?

There are several ways to center text in your sidebar:
1) With CSS (sstylesheet), go to the .side class and use this code text-align: center;
2) With HTML (main index), in the div class designation, <div class="side" align="center">
3) Enclose your text and/or image between <center> and </center> tags
Posted by: Madfish Willie @ at June 19, 2004 05:43 PM

If that did the trick for you, you are very welcome! If not, just let me know what exactly you are trying to center and I'll shoot you the code!!

Hey there, Mr. BArtender.
I am exhausted from having had one of R's friends from the Marine Corps Days stay with us for 8 days.
I tinkered a bit after posting the question, but, I think your method will be better.
Thanks so much for your help

I am sorry that I took so long letting you know that I appreicate it- just a bit hectic around here the past week and have had very little time to blog or get on and read anything.
P.S. Still have the COTBB code; gonna get to that tomorrow, too.

Google Has a Memory Like a Freakin Elephant
I recently deleted a blog entry that if put in the wrong hands could cause some trouble. However, if you do a google search for my blog, that entry shows up.
Is there something I can do to get rid of this forever?

Google's terms of use say they won't hold cached pages if the owner doesn't want them saved. It doesn't say how to go about initiating an "uncache this" request though.
Check in and arround their FAQs and service areas.

Ok, I dug around google and found that you can put a meta tag in your code that actually tells them not to show cached material.
Place this in the section:
The bad news is that they "crawl" the sites once a month and you have to contact them to get rid of the cached material they already have.
Just incase anyone else was interested

I think this is what DeAnna wanted to show us:
==============================================
7. How should I request that Google not return cached material from my site?
Google stores many web pages in its cache to retrieve for users as a back-up in case the server where the page resides temporarily fails. Users can view the cached version by choosing the "Cached" link on the search results page. If you don't want your content to be accessible through Google's cache, use a <META> tag with a CONTENT="NOARCHIVE" attribute. To do so, place the following line in the <HEAD> section of your documents:
<META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE">
This tag tells robots not to archive the page. Google will continue to index and follow links from the page, but will not present cached material to users. If you want to allow other robots to cache your content, but prevent Google's robots from doing so, use the following tag:
<META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOARCHIVE">
Please note that the change will take effect the next time Google crawls the page containing the NOARCHIVE directive in a <META> tag. If you want this change to take effect sooner, the site owner must contact us and request immediate removal of archived content. Note also that the NOARCHIVE directive only controls whether a cached version of the page is made available. To control whether the page is indexed, use CONTENT="NOINDEX". To control whether links are followed, use CONTENT="NOFOLLOW". For more information, see the Robots Exclusion page.

Add/Edit Author Madfish Willie
Over the course of assisting several of the new members in their moves to MuNuviana, I've been added as an author to a lot of sites.
If you have added
Madfish Willie or
MJ Taylor or
M J Taylor as an author to your site, could you please be so kind as to delete me from your author list. Of course, if there is anything else we need to do to your site, let me know and I'll get it done this week-end.

Attention MAC wielding Munivians
If you are reading this then this test works.
I downloaded a little blogging utility that supports multiple blogs on MT (and others). So far in just playing around with it, I love it. Even if posting from this doesn't work, I'll probably pony up the $20 shareware fee just for its formatting functions. There is a list of preset tags that you can edit and add to, and build in keyboard shortcuts for.
It will do multiple categories. You can manage recent posts. You can send notifications, You can turn comments and pings on and off.
And get this
THE PREVIEW WORKS. You see your post in color and the right fonts. You also have the option of setting up a live preview so that the preview updates as you type.
You need to be on at least OS x 10.3 but I wouldn't hesitate to try the demo on an older version of OS X either.
If you want it you can find it
here.
There's a screen shot of the preview in the extended entry (maybe).
UPDATE: I just discovered that they make a version for
Windows (not that there's anything wrong with that.)

O.K. the extended entry didn't work correctly until I opened the standard browser editor and re-saved the post but other than that I have that special warm happy feeling that can only come from a fantastic, cool, piece of software that only cost $20.

Never mind. I know what the problem is. Something in the code for showing the extended entry on the main page doesn't play well with Apple's Safari. The extended entry works fine in IE.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, MadFish, but NeoMail's purpose is only to allow you to access your email via a web browser. If you want to get that account's mail delivered to your Mozilla mail program, you would set up the email account in MozillaMail using your id/password, and the pop server information for the account. It wouldn't have anything to do with NeoMail. Are you trying to get a MuNu email account to deliver to Mozilla on your computer?

Use the option to show you the code instead of create a new entry and paste each code bit in Notepad. For the very last picture use the create new entry option off of the upload and paste all of your collected code into that entry.

Okay, I need to weigh in here. Peanut Butter M&M's are NOT Reece's Pieces, they are several times more delicious.
And yes, I'm the only one I know who likes the damned things, even my wife thinks I'm nuts.

"Latest Comments" Code?
I dig that Latest Comments feature on the sidebar here. Is there code available for adding that to our blogs? For one site specifically, I mean.
Seems to be a great way to let readers know where the comment activity is, without scanning every post.

There are several threads concerning recent comments over at the MT Support Forum.
Try this code:
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="0">
<MTGlobalComments sort_order="descend">
<MTIfLess a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="5" numeric="1">
<MTIfNotEqual a="[MTCommentAuthor]" b="Lisa">
• <MTCommentAuthorLink spam_protect="1">:
<MTCommentEntry>
<a href="">[...]
</MTCommentEntry>
<MTIfEqual a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="4" numeric="1">
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="5">
</MTIfEqual>
<MTIfEqual a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="3" numeric="1">
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="4">
</MTIfEqual>
<MTIfEqual a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="2" numeric="1">
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="3">
</MTIfEqual>
<MTIfEqual a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="1" numeric="1">
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="2">
</MTIfEqual>
<MTIfEqual a="[MTGetVar name='Counter']" b="0" numeric="1">
<MTSetVar name="Counter" value="1">
</MTIfEqual>
</MTIfNotEqual>
</MTIfLess>
</MTGlobalComments>
from this thread. Replace "Lisa" in line #4 with whatever your name is and it will give the last 5 comments that were made by people other than you. If you want to display more than 5 comments, just look at the code and modify where appropriate.

Thanks. The second bit of code works.
I didn't try the first bit. I wasn't sure if that bold-bullet in the first paragraph was supposed to be there or is just an error.
Also, I didn't know if the bit three lines after that, containing this:
[...]
was realy supposed to be coded that way, of if there's something I'm suppsed to substitute in for the [...} .
Is there a big difference between the two?
Either way, thanks. Like I said, the second one works great.

Actually, I spoke too soon. The second code displays the latest posts, but the "entry" link doesn't link to the comment; it just links right to the main page.

The first code, at least for me, gives an error on rebuild. It tells me that I used a "commentauthor" entry outside of a comment, and then it suggested that perhaps I'd mistakenly used it outside an MTCommententry "container."

The first one, follow the link back to the discussion thread. The rest of the thread should tell you something about if it works and what the problems were implementing it. The bullet was supposed to be there. I didn't test it, so I don't know how/if it works.
The second one should read:
<a href="<$MTEntryLink$>"><i>entry</i></a>
I missed converting the tags and it got parsed.

Blogroll
Er... Has anyone else noticed that the mu.nu blogroll hasn't been updated in a while?
I was wondering when the Llama Butchers were gonna start blogging and I, on a whim, typed in llamabutchers.mu.nu and there they were. Is something wrong? The last post is titled "Is The Thing Working Yet?"
The thought of Robert and Steve blogging in a vacuum for the past month almost makes me wanna cry.
And what about Memeblog? How many shadow Munuvians are there? Pixy, please update the blogroll so's we can stop our new cow puppies from getting sucked into the void!

Ban the Company?
That's two days in a row now that I have been screwed by a company called CP Cyber Wurx, who have blistered my site with 31 comments worth of spam, all on the same entry, all of them involving animals, fists, and a variety of equipment.
I have banned the two IP addresses that they came in on, but how do I ban the range? They are pissing me off!

Hmm. CPanel lets you block a group of IPs, but it has to be a class A, B or C - which means you could block 66.154.everything by entering "66.154", but that's a bit too much. You can't seem to block a range or a CIDR block.

Just an idea.

HammerHead - Green Spots
I have a new skin up over at the MadLab. It's called Green Spots.
It's a pretty mild design with light shades of green on background of multicolored "spots". There are several colored "spots" in the background. By grabbing one of those colors and changing the color scheme, you could modify the design color to your preferences.
I just formatted the front page. If anyone wants to grab it, let me know and I'll tweak it to where everything is consistent throughout the entire site. If not, I'll just add it to my growing list of Madfish Willie skins.
As usual, browsing in Mozilla will give you the full
Green Spots experience!

You can always change the color scheme and/or background image to suite your own particular taste and design style. The main objective was to get the element placement, paddings, margins, borders, etc in place for a skin. I wouldn't particularly use this color scheme myself, but that's the whole point of CSS... easy to change design elements.
PS Hasn't been tested in IE yet... so it prolly looks like hell over there.
