mu.nu - It's mackerel stewed in chocolate!

Call me sad...
So, looking through the SXSW convention, I see a lot of people have Blogger and Typepad gear, hats, t-shirts, that sort of thing. It sort of identifies them as bloggers, on shit hosts granted, but bloggers none the less.
Any thoughts on getting a cafe press or a spreadshirt thing going for mu.nu gear - any takers?
Cos, y'know, blogging is cool and shit. Yo.

Go for it.
What I'm thinking is a munu 2006 "World Domination Tour" shirt, with the munu logo on the front and a list of all the munu blogs on the back.
Don't know if we can fit them all on a shirt anymore, though.

Nah, Pixy, with the right font, they'd all fit.
Put MuNu World Domination Tour curved across the t-shirt at the top on both front and back, 2006 curved across the bottom on both front and back, and list the blogs in columns on both front and back.
That's one worthless suggestion I have.
The other 2 cents I'll throw in is a simple "Do You MuNu?
With the mu.nu URL on front and back.
Anyway, whatever form this takes, I'm a buyer!

Converting
Sorry, Pixy, but I'm going to follow Rightwing Duck into WordPress Land.
Well, you don't have to worry about it, Apothegm is going to handle the technical details.
I could just shut off comments again, but my nasty troll wants exactly that. He thinks he can control my blog.
Who the hell makes fun of Alzheimer's and thinks it's funny anyway? I've done everything I can. Ignoring him, deleting him, editing him, shutting off comments. Can't ban him, he uses proxy servers.
I need the comment moderation that WP provides.
I love MT, but, due to the licensing issues, in order to upgrade I'd have to move off of MuNu.
I'd rather go back to Blogsnot. MuNu isn't just a host. It's

Pretty Please....
I know it's been said before, but I will appeal again--if a Munuvian does not know the correct way to add Blacklist entries, please don't!!!!!! I just had to unlist imdb.com, as well as several English words that, while possibly offensive to some, might be used in comments on Harvey's or Jim's blogs.
When in doubt,
don't Blacklist everything, ok?

Man, this shit is getting ridiculous.
Tell ya what... Blacklist needs to just be CLOSED to all but a select few, like Pixy and Paul ONLY.
That'd stop this stupidness.... (since asking politely and REPEATEDLY doesn't seem to be friggin' working...)
Posted by: Stevie @ at March 16, 2006 01:12 AM

I don't think the people are stupid.. else they wouldn'tbe here with the rest of us in thre first place... there's just a huge lack of understanding of how the blacklist works and the proper procedures to implement blocking the fuckhead spammers jackasses.
I know it's hard on everyone's cmmentors, especially blog that get massive amounts of comments - but those people usually bitch and find a work-a-round, The smaller blogs might certainly lose readers and commenters if they can' make it thru the filter.
How about someone with more expertise than I doing a tutorial on how to use the blacklist and then we can leave it at the top to this page, maybe in the sidebar or something -- that way everyone could have a reference source beffore making wholesales blocks to the entire community.
So... if someone can do a good tutorial and post it, I'll take the post and sidebar-itize it for us all.
Any takers????????

Willie, I'm off tomorrow and will finally get a chance to write up a set of instructions.
Pixy et al... how would you like to mark it prominently so folks will see and read it?
As I see it, people who are using the Blacklist don't know that they don't know how to use it properly. Just having the info available in case they want to look for it isn't going to be enough - it needs to be mandatory that anybody who is going to use the blacklist have read and understand how to do so. I don't think that will happen if it's just over in the sidebar.

You can host it right here on munu. We also have Agora, but it seems to be seriously broken, so I'm going to turn it off.

MT Notifications Not Working
I have notifications setup where readers can enter their email address to receive an email when I put up a new post.
When I write a post, I select the appropriate option and click send.
It seems that it is not going out to my readers. It is only going out to my email, and my email is not even in the list. I am hoping this is a configuration error. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am assuming that my email is the email that was used to setup MT???
Thanks,
SR

The built-in MT search funtion is crap when you have as many blogs as we do. Google works well.

Google is the way to go. I'm just too lazy to actually slap the code in my template. Easy way to search a particular site using google, enter your query like this:
apostate rabbits site:snoozebuttondreams.com
Substitute whatever you're looking for instead of apostate rabbits. Unless you're actually looking for apostate rabbits, in which case you should leave it. And substitute the site you want to search for snoozebuttondreams.com. Though for the life of me I can't think of a reason why you'd be interested in a different site.

LMA, it's fine to use the quick despam process, but if you're not familiar with the requirements for proper Blacklist entries, just stop after the despamming's been done and don't continue with the adding to Blacklist part. (It's more than just not blacklisting commom words.)
I'm going to write up a full set of Blacklist instructions in the next couple of days, which, if people will read, should help cut way down on blacklisting woes.

changing link colors within blockquotes
Hi all,
Thanks to those who assisted me with creating a different format for my blog blockquotes. One problem still persists (just one!): How can I change the links (standard, active, etc.) colors
within my blockquotes? I ask b/c the background color I've chosen for my blockquotes now makes it difficult to see any links within them. I tried copying the link codes from the beginning of the stylesheet template, posting it within the blockquote code, and merely changing the color parameters. No dice.
Thanks in advance!

Insert a new section in your CSS (stylesheet) where you can put your blockquote link controls. Put the word blockquote in front of the A: , A:link , A:visited , A:active , A:hover code.
blockquote A: { color: #FFFFFF; font-weight: bold; background: #000066; }Let me know how that works out for you.

MW: Here's the code as I have it now:
blockquote A:link{ color: #C82536; text-decoration: none; }
A:visited { color: #CCCC66; text-decoration: none; }
A:active { color: #FFFF99; }
A:hover { color: #FFFF99; }
blockquote{
margin:15px 30px 15px 30px;
padding:8px 10px 8px 10px;
border: 1px solid #E8E8E8;
color:#030303;
font-family:arial, tahoma;
background:#E8E8E8;
}
***********
I originally had the bottom blockquote code to get the background and text different for my blockquote boxes; so, I added the blockquote link codes above that. I'm not entirely certain this was the proper course of action.
Nevertheless, what has happened is that LINK color has indeed changed to what I desired; however, the FOLLOWED and ACTIVE link colors will not change as I wish. (In the code above I have changed them back to the default stylesheet colors -- FYI.) When I changed those, they changed the FOLLOWED and ACTIVE link colors for the entire index page.

You just need to add the word blockquote in front of all the link entries.
When you are done, you should have one set of link controls for your main page that all start with a and one set of link controls for your blockquotes that start with blockquote a:.
You can use this same method to display different link controls in your sidebar also - just add the appropriate class name in front of a new set of controls.

That's exactly how it should be. We have two DNS servers (as it says), and blog.mu.nu lives at that IP address.
The
DNS checker at squish.net (a wonderful tool), returns:
Results
50.0% of queries will be returned by 69.72.215.218 (ns1.mu.nu)
blog.mu.nu. 14400 IN A 69.72.215.227
50.0% of queries will be returned by 69.72.215.226 (ns2.mu.nu)
blog.mu.nu. 14400 IN A 69.72.215.227
Again, no errors, both DNS servers working, correct result returned.
Anyone out there who is DNS savvy, could you take a quick look at what you are seeing from your point of view and leave a comment. I
think that the problem is due to flaky DNS caching servers being run by various ISPs, but I'd like to be sure.
Update: I thought I'd managed to duplicate the problem on my wireless internet, but before I could do any real diagnosis it started working again. Damn.

Okay this is strange. My friend Tammi has been having this problem. She's on Insight for her ISP. I thought it might be a flaky dns too. Unfortunately I didn't have her tracert or ping the correct name. As this has been ongoing I'll see if she can do it tomorrow. Unless it's figured out by then.

That's interesting. I've had reports of other people on Insight having the same problem. I'll see if I can work out what's going on there.

No, I can't work it out. Oh well.

I found that I had regained access to Munu sites (including my own) when I checked Saturday evening. Maybe my ISP is stupid and recalcitrant but finally surrendered to Pixy's indomitable will.
Yeah, that's it (because that kind of explanation makes much more sense to me than the scripty codey stuff.)
Yay Pixy!

Yay! I think it may be because we changed DNS *servers* rather than just the DNS settings, and that can have a longer delay time. It still shouldn't have taken so long, but at least it's all happy now.

Sorry About The Fruitcakes
If you are getting a "fruitcake error" when trying to log in to Movable Type, or when adding a post or a comment or something, it's a problem relating to MySQL, and I'm working on it.
Update: It may be to do with the current spam-storm. It's all getting zapped, but that seems to be generating errors on MySQL, because Fluffy keeps killing the comment script while it is querying the database.
I've put something in place to prevent this from causing problems while I do a bit more digging.
Update: Found it. It was indeed the spam-storm. Over 100,000 spams in the past couple of hours, and no sign of letting up. Bleh.
All under control now.
Update: Currently clocking between 600 and 1000 spams
per minute. All being rejected.
Update: Confirmed. Spammer smacked, errors stopped. Yay. Bed time.

What's the scoop with the pLog blogs? Mine says something about a suspended account?
Thanks!

Sorry, I'll unsuspend that. It was a suspect in the Great Fruitcake Caper, but turned out not to be guilty after all.
Done.

New error message from my bookmark link and my login link:

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
