About DNS Management

I'm about ready to unpack my stuff in my new blogsite, but can't figure out why I can't get DNS management to work. I gather that one has to use DNS management to preserve all the links to specific posts as one migrates from the old site. I've created two Cname records, one for www.demosophia.com and another for demosophia.com. I'm not sure what to do for the A record, since the blog doesn't appear to have a unique IP address. Can I just ignore the A record? If not do I have to use URL forwarding instead of DNS management?

At the moment I've disabled URL forwarding, but my domain name still points to some broken page in the Blogspot domain, which just shows a lonely "ok" in the upper lefthand corner. What am I doing wrong?

White List?

I just removed usnews.com from the blacklist. Is there anything we can do about these false positives? Have someone check additions to the blacklist? A whitelist? Something?

What Happened To My Template

Something weird happened to my template. Half of it is just disappeared. Is that me or did this happen to anyone else?

It only affects the sidebar, luckily. I went into the template to see what happened and it's like it got deleted below a certain point.

Shadow blogging?

So anyway, I was reading through a comments thread at Random Pensees and noticed the name "Christina". Not sure if I knew who that was, I put my cursor over the name to see the URL. It was a .mu.nu blog that I'd never heard of; Just *dot* Christina.

Turns out that it's the same Christina who used to the blog at Feisty Repartee. She's been blogging again since October, but she's not the .mu.nu blogroll. Eeep!

Hope there aren't any other undocumented Munuvians out there.

Need Help to Transfer blog

Hi everyone. Phin has been helping me transfer my blog (http://gmroper.com) to http://gmroper.mu.nu but he has a new family member and hasn't been able to help. Can anyone help me with the transfer? I can set up someone to get into my .com (mt 3.2) if there is someon that can help transfer the archives and current stuff. I'm paid up for April at the old site, but really am a dunce when it comes to knowing enough to make the transfer. If anyone can help, it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

GM Roper

3.2

Little note for the handful of people on MT3: I've updated the system to MT 3.2. This seems to be mostly transparent, but MT Blacklist has been disabled and replaced by the built-in Junk comment/trackback system. We'll see how that goes.

Hey Everybody,

I am no longer getting email notifications when I get a new comment or trackback. I looked in CP and cannot see anything wrong.

Any ideas?

Cpanel access issues?

Hey gang, am I the only one who cannot seem to log into Cpanel lately?

I've been trying since late last night but to no avail?

I keep getting this message:

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.whatsakyer.mu.nu:2082.
I don't know where that "2082" thing is coming from since I'm putting "whatsakyer.mu.nu/cpanel" as the url.... any i-dears?

Categories RSS?

Is there a way to have an individual RSS feed for each of the categories that we use? I'd like to highlight the book reviews that I do by putting a "Latest Reviews" thing on one sidebar that would show the headlines for my latest reviews.

File Dump!

Got something you want to share? Getting into podcasts or vlogging, or want to upload some music you've written? Or maybe you're ready to unleash your own Linux distro on an unsuspecting world?

But you held off because you didn't want to use up all your bandwidth and get Pixy mad with you?

Well, now there's a solution! filedump.mu.nu. It's an easy-to-use BitTorrent tracker, which means that for popular files it uses a thousand times less bandwidth on the munu servers. You don't even need a BitTorrent client to use it, but you can if you prefer. The software is called Broadcast Machine, and they want to be to vlogging what... Uh, what something else was to something else.

Currently there are no files there, but you can see a working installation on my blog.

If you'd like to use it, email me and I'll set you up with an account.

Love that email!

Oh, you just gotta love checking the email in the morning:
spammy.GIF
Note the 101 entries -- exactly 9 are actual emails, the rest are trackback spam from 10pm to 7:30am EST.

I'm not complaining, Pixy, just bitching, you know? I mean, I know it's not your fault (or is it...could Pixy BE the evil spammer? No, even Pixy isn't THAT evil...) I'm just about to give up on trackbacks entirely, except I really like them, dammit.

Bandwidth Limit Exceeded

Yikes! I need to go on an "uploaded file diet" or something!

Pixy, would you be so kind as to bump me up? I promise not to be such a "bandwidth hog" in the future.

Wordpress

I got bored on Saturday night and decided to give Wordpress a try. Awhile back I tried it, and was not impressed. That was easily a few years ago. Now I am much more enthused about it. It seems cleaner and smoother, and the themes are better managed. Pixy, might WP be a solution to our woes if Minx doesn't pan out? Just a thought, but I for one am beginning to hate with a passion reminiscent of John Kerry the bloody spammers. Not only the comment spammers, but also the trackback ones. Blacklist seems to be faulty, and Wordpress seems to have some nice plugins to combat it.

In any case if anyone wants to see my small set-up check it out here:

http://weaver.nickqueen.com

I have it to where you need to register to visit the site since I am posting snippets of a book I'm working on there. Wordpress can have many levels of protection in that regard, down to having to register to post comments. Stop by and take a look!

PS

As for the Munu shirt, can I lobby for a big shirt, cause I'm a big guy, and I do mean in the 4x or so range. If you make it, I'll buy it and show my Munu love.

And nothing vilgar people, ie Madfish! I'd like to be able to wear this in public without being trampled by family, friends, or the decency police! ;-)

Rebuilding Problem

Why, when I attempt to rebuild the entire site, do I get stuck with Individual Archives 1-100 on the counter? Is my site rebuilding? Or is there something that is preventing that from happening? The same thing happens when I try to rebuild Individual Archives -- but not any other rebuild configuration.

T-Shirts Are Cool

But, like, we could use a flag, too.

I pledge allegiance, to the flag

Of the United Blogs of Munuviana

And to the psychoses, for which it stands

One Blogdom, under God, indivisible

With liberty from spam, and Mohammed cartoons for all

Oh, man, watch the ACLU take a crap over THAT!

Google Serches

I get a huge amount of google serches for some rather popular images that I have put up over the last year and a half. Is there any way to "block" the google search as they eat up a huge amount of my bandwidth....

any ideas besides quit blogging ;-)
