Yes, Hrothgar, fish can be pets. Thelma and Louise. But mostly Louise Meet Miss Louise, of the Misses Thelma and Louise, from deep in the Piney Woods of East Texas. We rescued the teeny, tiny sisters from a likely drowning and brought them home; so young, they didn't really know how to eat so we spoon fed them til they decided to bury their little faces in kitten kibble. Three years and 17 pounds later, Miss Louise is unbothered, moisturized, happy , in her lane, focused (sort of) and flourishing. S.A wonderful story and a great photo! We look forward to seeing her sister. Wanted to share with you and the Horde - we just got back from vacation to Alaska and Canada. On of the excursions we (my husband's cousin and I) took was a real bucket list item. We took a helicopter ride to the top of Mendenhall Glacier and got to ride behind a dog sled team in training at the top of the glacier. It was SO. MUCH. FUN!!!!! I highly recommend it, if anyone ever has the chance to do it. It was pricy, but something I will always remember ♥️ I was worried the helicopter ride would be scary, but it was exhilarating - seeing the vast expanse of the glacier was absolutely spectacular (and eye-opening). I would do it again in a heartbeat! TeresaWow! What an adventure! K.T., Thank you for the Pet Thread. It's something I wait anxiously each week for, Recently (August 21, 2024) we had to put down our Frenchton, Miley (the black one). She was our rescue. She had suffered a lot of abuse as a stray in South Carolina before she came to us in 2016. She never really lost her fear of strangers, but she integrated into our family after about a year. She was diagnosed about 3 years ago with the kidney disease called Cushings. She fought a very brave fight, eliciting comments from specialists that "with her kidney enzyme values, we don't know how this girl still eats." But eat she did until the last couple of days when her appetite declined precipitously. Miley also had developed some kind of mass in her neck that was affecting her esophagus and trachea, causing her to choke and cough whenever she ate or drank. Our vet, who has been an amazing comfort to us, told us that we gave Miley the chance at life that nobody else would have, and now it was time to give her the peace she deserved. So we sent her on her way to the Rainbow Bridge with the help of our vet. My wife and I could not bear coming home to an empty house each day, so it only took 3 days for us to find and bring home, our newest family member. Meet Tanner, the fawn colored, 12 week old, French Bulldog. He is already asserting his will at our Casa. And, he is extremely photogenic. Thank you again for your work on the Pet Thread. I don't post or comment a lot, but when I do, it's TimInVirginia. So sorry you lost sweet Miley. Tanner certainly looks wonderful! Thank all of you for help with our friend's cat Trumpy last week.
Hey, Trumpy's doing great! I was taking the dog out last night and Trumpy and his sister, maybe lover, came across the street meowing. Dude's almost fully healed. And at Walmart, I just bought a bit of cat litter and a small bag of cat food just in case. Anyways, thank all of you again. Oh, TMZ had a story yesterday with a 38 pound cat. Poor thing. Howdy, pet fans. After looking through meme pages by Barnhardt, Bookworm, Powerline, and others, it's nice to see a pet post that doesn't reference Haitian dietary habits. (Although we may still have our regular dog-eating President commenter.) Another good bunch of fun pet memes, as usual, on BluebirdOfBitterness.com.
When Daisy the overly-affectionate Belgian Malinois knows one of us is going to be throwing a ball for her, she starts chasing her tail in circles and yapping loudly. Pretty cute, except for the deafening volume. She's had a lot of exercise in recent weeks, and looking good and lean. Ony the old black cat has been enjoying going out in the fenced back yard and rolling in the grass. Good to see. For most of the past year, since we moved into the new house, she hasn't been outside. Still hoping Daisy and Ony can share the yard, but not yet. Posted by: mindful webworker - want to play fetch? ARFARFARFARF at September 14, 2024 04:00 PM (mImB+) 18

They hid for a day and then were back at their regular routines. Since Bailey had been to the vet (partial UTI again) the herd was sensitive to the appearance of pet carriers and scattered everywhere at the mere sound of one. Hilarious. They fight to not be put in but at the vet they are very thankful when presented with the carrier and enter voluntarily, with no fuss. The cat in the "diet" meme looks remarkably like my late Wolf. There was a maintenance staffer here at my complex who refused to come into my apartment; he'd gotten a look at Wolf once, and he'd shake his head when they wanted to detail him here: "Not with that big black cat."
The irony was that Wolf was never mean; instead he was one of the most easygoing cats ever. In his youth he was nervous around strangers. Later he'd sit out in the living room when strangers came in, as if saying, "I'm not going to be chased away." It was his size and the apparent fierce look on his black face that made him look like a demon. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 14, 2024 04:12 PM (omVj0) 38

As for the second member of the Killer Kittenz From Outer Space, I don't know where Dagny is napping.
Oh, okay, she's curled on the floor near the bedroom window. She's still kind of aloof, despite having been here for two solid years now. She likes being petted if you go to her; but she is not one to come to you. She'll curl up on one of the couch tables in my general vicinity, but rarely ever sits on the couch next to me. When she does it's quite nice. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 14, 2024 04:17 PM (omVj0) 41

We put our last dog after 3 years of suffering from Cushings. Early in the disease she had gone blind and the vet shamed me (thankfully) not to put her down. So, I also got back from a trip to Alaska, and went on a different helicopter ride to a glacier, and to a sled dog camp and then a 2 mile ride on a sled around the area.
It't like she said - SO MUCH FUN!!!!! It was my first time in a helicopter and on a dog sled. And the place was just amazing. Saw a bear picking berries on the way up to the glacier and a moose eating plants in a swampy area (both way down from the glacier). It was near Knik and a bit of a drive from Wasilla where we stayed. Beautiful and excited dogs at the camp. When they were selecting them for the rides, they could not wait to hitched up and RUN! My dog Buzz (who I posted about on the Pet Thread earlier this year is part Husky, so I got to see his relatives in their native soils. Although most real sled dogs as mixes of Huskies and other dogs (learned that in the Iditarod Museum, again around Wasilla, Alaska, it was very impressive to see these dogs in action.
