Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Don't have one of these, do you?

Some people know how to get along with giraffes:

> I hope this works. You asked for some horse pictures and this one is about as sweet as it gets.

I will be in the comments on Saturday to explain the picture so as not to tie up more of the main page.

Thank you,

Ben Had

Very sweet. And of course, we try to be careful to protect the identity of hoomans in photos.

Office Help krog.jpg

Winnie (black and white) and Kroger (black) are quite happy to assist me on days I work from home. I met Winnie when she was just off the track and I was transporting her to her foster home. She decided that she'd much rather go home with me. Kroger was returned due to an instance of aggression. We fostered him, weaned him off Prozac and got him adopted out only to have him be returned again. My wife and I decided he could live with us.

-NR Pax

They look like great office helpers. Interesting story about weaning Kroger off Prozac.

panda hd.jpg

This is Panda, she's now about 16 yo, a sweet and gentle cat to all but the dogs. She is very expressive with her voice and especially with her tail, and no longer pretends to be aloof,. She was born feral but was captured by 3 of the Dall progeny, enticed by cheese. She then captured said kids, then after she moved in with us she enthralled the elder Dalls into her service.

Hal Dall, MD

Panda has obviously earned her place in the family.

* * *

Ok, the family has expanded beyond the three cats (Zim, Grrrrr, and Monster) and Princess the dog. We now have adopted a bunch of more unusual animals which I now present for the Pet Morons Pleasure.

I just pray that I got the name pairs correct.

As always, thanks for doing the PetMorons! It's a fun part of my weekend to see the pets.

6 Interesting story about weaning Kroger off Prozac.

Some details.

The people who adopted him first had no greyhound experience and their vet put him on Prozac to deal with "aggression." When we took him in as a return, I reached out to a friend of mine about that. I got a response in under five minutes that said "I NEVER recommend that for ANY patient! One of the side effects is that it makes the animal more prone to bite."

So we worked with our vet, got his thyroid tested and discovered it needed medication. Then he got adopted out and the vet that saw him said "Oh, he doesn't have a thyroid problem" and took him off cold turkey. Another aggression incident happened shortly afterward.

So we took him in, got him on the meds he needed and as you all see, he's a happy boy.

Recently she mentioned she wanted a baby goat because cute! And when it grows up into asshoe we can eat it!

15 Dear St. Anthony, please come around.
Something is lost which must be found.*

Preferably, still in working order.

Son-in-law was mowing yesterday when he spotted Daisy dog's missing control collar. Still buckled, which means she got it off over her skinny little skull.

Looked like it was charging, but didn't. Gotta get a new one; she was responding to it very nicely and we got to take unleashed walks. Also helpful in training her not to jump on people, her worst habit.

*Not Catholic, but not above appealing to saints just to cover all bets. Figure they're as good as Moron prayers.

Nice pets today, and the barnyard bunch.

16 KT, I think bigger dogs to get thyroid issues. Kraken (Another one I posted on the thread) had the same problem and he was a big muscle boy also.

Ben, that is a wonderful story. So they were retired racers or what?

17 Speaking of horses, some of the kids graduating from my son's university today were equine studies or equine science majors. I met a nice young woman as I was slowly going up to the second floor or his dorm several weeks ago. I said, "Please go by me. I am slow and old and kind of achy ," She said, "That's o.k. I am slow and young and kind of achy. I think I must have been kicked by horses in almost every part of my body." She was an equine science major but was persevering despite the kicks. Good for her!.

21 Little girls and horses. Long story. When we decided to do the TXMoMe we coordinated with the Ohio Horde and did a Skype connection. When the connection was made the first thing the Ohio group saw was that big yellow horse. IB guy was laughing so hard he was almost in tears. Champ is a World Champion show horse that belongs to Rancherbob and Cow horse Queen.

22 There was a tall, pretty, blonde in the neighborhood who used to walk her greyhounds pretty regularly. They are pretty chill dogs and friendly. I haven't seen her around lately so I'm guessing she moved. I liked her dogs and she had pretty blue eyes so I'm kind of bummed.

30 Rancherbob decided after he had won so much on Champ he wanted to move on to a younger horse. A match made in heaven occurred. The grandmother of young lady started riding with me when she was 13. She needed a good horse to go back to the show pen on and Rancherbob generously offered the use of Champ.

31 I, too, have heard that greyhounds are excellent pets. Used to see lots of them around Portland (and the occasional whippet) - retired racers. Then they closed down the Multnomah County Dog Track, and they disappeared - haven't seen a one for well over a decade.

32 JEWELLS:

I've been wanting to catch a thread you're active on. Please look at Joe Tippens' blog, :my cancer story rocks." He had stage for cancer and he ended up using fenbendazole and is no longer showing any evidence of disease ... for 5 years now.

No side effects and worth a shot. If you read his blog you will see how a Veterinary researcher friend discovered that it cleared up tumors in her lab mice and then she had a glioblastoma and tried it on herself and it worked.

He was given a prognosis of 3 months to live but he wanted to see his soon to be born grandson.

Posted by: Beverly at May 11, 2024 04:09 PM (Epeb0)

33 Oh and about Winnie:

For a while, the wife and I volunteered to help with greyhound transports. The race track would hire a hauler in FL, they would drive all night and we would meet the dogs in Fredericksburg, VA. From there, we'd transport them to the next stop and so on.

So one morning I'm hauling four and three of them are acting like absolute nuts. This little white and black spotted girl looks at me with an expression that says "I'm the sweetest little thing you've ever met, aren't I? Can I go home with you?"

My wife got a text with a picture a little later that read "So you said you wanted a girl dog next." We picked her up the next weekend (She had to be cat tested) and she pretty much tried taking over (The other males were there before her and treat her orders as suggestions much to her irritation.).

Posted by: NR Pax at May 11, 2024 04:09 PM (E7kpD)

34 Fenbendazole, made by Merck, is used as a dog deformed, very cheap and off-patent, so it will never be trialed as a cancer drug, but a small Swedish study found it had effectiveness vs breast cancer.

Please check it out. People who have tried it in late stage cancers of various types have reported being cleared of all tumors and even pancreatic cancer patients have shown that it has held it at Bay so it is apparently cancer agnostic. There are three plausible mechanisms of action for this drug to fight tumorigenesis.

God bless.

35 Afternoon, pet peeplz,

Panda has remarkable coat pattern and is very good-looking with thos blue eyes. "No longer pretends to be aloof"? I hope little Dagny my Siberian gets to that point someday.

As for the more outre critters: Horse Sugar has a beautiful color him/herself. And Alpaca Mutt -- holy cow, that face and attitude looks like it ought to be staring out from a '70s album cover for a band like the Marshall Tucker Band or something. (Is the animal noun part of their actual names, or are they "Sugar" and "Mutt"?)

The Xoloitzcuintle (or Xoloitzquintle, Xoloitzcuintli, or Xolo) is one of several breeds of hairless dog. It is found in standard, intermediate, and miniature sizes. The Xolo also comes in a coated variety, totally covered in fur. Coated and hairless can be born in the same litter...

42 The video of the little dog defending his human from the moose: If it's moose country and there's snow on the ground, why is Truck Guy wearing a T-shirt and no jacket, even a light one? I know people in Alaska and such moose-infested climes get used to the cold -- and from the look of the snow it seems a dry cold, easier to bear -- but that still seems odd.

Big black Stirling sleeps with me at least part of every night, and often when I nap. He was on the bed with me when I just woke up. As I sat typing, he climbed to the arm of the sofa and gave me what I thought was the "lap look." But when I moved the computer for him, he bumped me with his head, then sprang down and trotted off.

66 Allow me to share a brief horse story. My baby sister has Downs Syndrome. When she was about 10, my parents started taking her to riding lessons. They found an instructor who worked with disabled and welcomed a new client. My sis did very well for herself in Special Olympics Equestrian events - all the way up to the state level (NY).

When she competed at the state level, I went to watch. What I saw amazes me to this day. I saw disabled people bent up like a pretzel due to Cerebral Palsy or other ailment who, when placed on top of a horse, could sit straight. I saw horses that were known to be "nudges" and difficult be the kindest of the lot when they had a "special" rider.

I'm not a horse person, but it was one of the most incredible things I ever saw in my life.

100 Nurse is having surgery. Appendicitis.

OK, now I can tell the joke just a little.
Wife had an urgent appendectomy several years ago.
Getting appendicitis on a Friday evening is several thousand dollars more expensive than, say, on a Tuesday morning.
Every single billing detail of the hospital system is arrayed against the sufferer. Doctors who have to be called from another wing of the same building are suddenly on consultants' rates. The operating room is prime-time. They call in an extra billing tech to add all the asterisks. You do usually live, though.
