Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Misanthropic Humanitarian has alerted us to a page at the Garden & Gun Magazine website dedicated to Good Dogs.

It seems to have started with a focus on sporting dogs, but currently features several categories of doggy photo contests, plus stories like this one:

A Little Chihuahua's Extra-Large Presence
A scraggly Chihuahua mix found on the banks of Lake Erie now runs the show in a Mississippi household

excerpt:

I was in the kitchen when the doorbell rang, and my husband, Dustin, answered it with his big jolly laugh that I've loved for years. My friend vanished before I could get to the doorway, and by the time I made it to the family room, our boys, three and six years old at the time, were already whirling like dervishes around this little dog, who had joined in--jumping and dancing and laughing (and barking)! Mommy, Mommy, come see! That little beige dog that looked like a miniature wolf wore a jaunty hand-knit green-and-white-striped scarf tied ever so gently around his neck. So distinguished--a little wolfy professor with four-inch legs and a bulbous belly like an overinflated football. He strutted around as if he already owned the kitchen. The dog trotted into each of the boys' laps, sitting with his tongue out as if to say, I'm new here, so what's cooking?

An hour or two turned into overnight, then overnight became at-least-just-the-Thanksgiving-weekend, and that weekend turned into a decade. . .

Check out the page, especially if you live in the South. You might like it!

Got those Christmas gifts set up yet?

This looks like a training exercise, but still impressive.

Wow. I think this would be very risky for the average person and rescue dog. Glad it worked out.

Meet The PetMorons

I got a "rejected message" email notification on Christmas. Did someone try to submit a photo and misspell the address?

We know that there are more pets out there. If you have mail difficulties, try the garden thread address.

Amazingly cute! And there are three more?

Angelica tr.jpg

This beautiful girl is a 10 year old pit bull mix. She was found as a stray and has been staying in a shelter for several weeks until Shep's rescued her. I haven't met her yet. I finally signed up for a shift January 12th. Been too long!

Jewells

Glad to see another report from you, Jewells! Angelica has lovely coloring. Hope she finds a home soon.

This is Colby, our crazy orange cat. He loves chewing on this chair and going for car rides.

DH

Great photos! Looks like someone is pampering Colby. Don't let him drive, though.

edison new f.jpg

You may remember Edison, our 13 year old Shih-Pom rescue, now joined by 5 month old Morkiepoo brother, Tucker. They're getting along very well and Edison has new life! He's helping Tucker learn the ropes, and Tucker is showing Edison how fast Edison can still run.

Debra T.

We couldn't forget dapper Edison, posing under the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve, 2022! Young Tucker and Edison look great together. Hard to resist those faces. Glad they're getting along well. Looks like they're having some fun.

* * *

virga n 2.jpg

Virga, Bingo and Eli. All posing for me. The dachshunds are finally used to Virga, the Moyen Poodle pup (10 months old). She does take advantage of her gender and size so she's kind of bossy to the boys. She's a wonderful addition to our little pack.

Lori
Custer SD

Wow! There's a contrast between the Dachshunds and their sister in both size and color. Gives us a good idea of the size of a Moyen Poodle.

I know the boys are wire-haired doxies, but my aunt and uncle once had a long-haired doxie in a slightly darker color and they remind me of him.

Nice Memories.

9 Good afternoon pet lovers.
That video of the dog rescue reminded me of an incident when I used to live in the country and had a couple of labs, Amber and Corwin. Corwin was a big heavy classic looking yellow lab. We lived on 4 acres, two of which were pond. One day Corwin fell through the ice in the middle of the pond. I was frantic, called the police while my husband started to push the canoe onto the ice to try and reach him. Next thing I knew, the entire fire department(mostly volunteer in my 3500 person town) had turned out to rescue my dog. By then, my husband had managed to pull the cold, wet dog into the canoe no worse for wear.
Just reminded me of how good people can be and how little we see today.
It just reminded me of what

21 So, good news bad news this week. On the good news, (good mews?) I had breakthrough with the feral khet who lives in the park next to the gym. She let me pet her. I don't think she's ever been petted before because she didn't seem to know how to respond. I am going to work with the local Humane Society to Trap, Spay, and Release her.

The bad news... let me put it this way, my vet referred me to a feline oncologist and we have an appointment for a week from Monday. So, it looks like one of my khets will be crossing the rainbow bridge this year.

22 Today, I had both cats in the same room for a bit. Troubles decided to check out the converted garage. That's Fanny's room as it's the warmest place in the house. She also has a heating pad set up in there. So she stayed put and Troubles sat on one of the trunks and stared. No hissing, which is good. Supposed to be very cold next week and that will mean Troubles spending more time inside.

That's the excitement around here.

24 The DOG (Canis familiaris) is an animal characterized by Linnæus as having the tail recurved, and bent towards the left side of the body.

As an attached and faithful servant of man, the dog is equalled by no animal. Though destitute of the faculty of thought, he has all the ardour of sentiment. He is all zeal, warmth, and obedience; and, forgetful of injuries, he seeks only how he may gain the favour and affection of his master.

We gave the puppies house time this morning. After giving them an opportunity to do their business outside, we let them have the run of the living room, kitchen and utility room.

They were a bit tentative at first but soon got into the swing of things and chased each other about (the puppy race track), had fearsome spills and otherwise had a great time.

This crew has turned out very, very well. The only two notable faults we've seen are that George and Puff have tails that are a bit short. They stop at the top of the hock, while we want to see them extend beyond that.

Otherwise they all stand square, have excellent fronts, nice heads, good movement and outgoing temperaments. Zeus and Phoenix are more placid than George and Spark. Puff, as befits a girl, ties them in knots.

39 Rose, the outside female that adopted us some time ago, has been coming into the house - I guess it's warmer. Unfortunately Oscar, a yellow 12 yearold cat who thinks he's the alpha cat, has taken a dislike to her and yowls for ages and then attacks her. In much younger days he used to that to Belle. Belle is 17 and deaf as a doorpost now. She likes to lie or sleep in the slot between me and the armrest (several others like that too) and so does Oscar. However the last few years he will tolerate her and even sleep on top of her or with his face in her fur. Go figure.
The Mum and the two kittens must have found elsewhere to hangout as we haven't seen them for a long while. Have not seen that B & W young cat either since that once. It was featured in one of the updates recently.
Biscuit's babies are grown now and bigger than her. They all get on with everyone and play a lot with the younger house cats (as we call them, house and room cats).

44 Champion - my dog is fine with cats, but my cat is a down to the bone dog hater 4 life. What I found out is that you should get a treat that neither can resist. For them, it's ham. If you find the right treat and deny it til they both beg for it next to each other, they'll get over the mutual hatred forever, and grudgingly respect one another.

Everyone and his mother wants one. While it would not bother me at all to have them stay here, if they're show quality it's not fair to them. Right now we plan on keeping and showing Zeus. The others will go to show homes. Her Majesty handles that stuff. I'm just a swabbie on this ship.

49 Yesterday, Son brought two of those talking buttons dogs can step on - one says "outside" and the other says "walk". He said his dogs had no interest in them. Despite repeated demonstrations, our Daisy had no interest in them, either. And Daisy will jump and bark frantically if we just say "walk?"

Today, I took her for a hearty stroll. We came back in, I went in the next room and I immediately hear "Walk! Walk!" Um... yes, Daisy, that was a walk. Not quite clear on the concept yet.

Great Moronimals as always. Thanks for the pet thread, KT.

54 I'm going to declare that the pile of scrap concrete in the back yard are my pets, since I missed the puttering thread.

Obviously the small chunks can snuggle together in a pile for the winter, but several of the larger ones wanted to spread out, so I arranged them in a rectangle and put sand around and between them to keep them apart. (When they get to that size they don't like being in direct contact with other large chunks.)

And they really do like having a task to do, so now they have been assigned to hold the garbage cans up.

We'll see if they can maintain that the until spring.

Talk about childish, conceited, and fixated on skin color.
Un-American through and through. There is none, absolutely no reason to have an child alert color-coded for race. It doesn't tell me to look out for a black or brown kid and now we never know if Amber is just white or any color.
Our politicians ruined a great place "fighting" apartheid but do nothing about the same thing creeping in bit by bit in this country.

68 Mysterious Contributor's three kittens are very handsome. The top one, the black, and the bottom one, the darker brown tabby, look very much as Stirling and Dagny did as kittens.

Stirling has outgrown milk-treading me. However, he does sleep with me nearly every night, and curls on my lap for a little while nearly every day. Dagny is not a lap cat and rarely spends the night -- but she often curls up on the bed near me at the beginning of my nap. And the other evening, she marched over and settled onto the arm of the sofa. Stayed with me for petting for close to twenty minutes.

Still, she is kind of aloof; I almost get the impression she does not completely approve of me.

When Eevee wanted us to know he believed his box to be too dirty he would pee in the tub. Definitely have to give him props for getting his point across in a manner easy to clean up.

76 Lucy the Fink gets her box cleaned every morning.

If I'm late by a couple of hours, I get the evil eye.

77 KTE & I took doggeh out for the first snow in forever. Yucky wet snow, bit apparently, delicious.

When Arizona the part-Coon red tabby was young, we lived in a half-double where the only place we could put his box and feed him was a clear space in the kitchen. He was fine with it. One day, though, I opened a fresh can of Nine Lives and filled his bowl. He sniffed it, stepped back, and scooped litter from the box (which was completely clean) over the food -- then trotted out, bushy tail in the air.

When I finished laughing I cleaned up, washed the bowl, and gave him some more from the tin in a spot away from the box. He still wouldn't touch it. I opened a new tin and fed him in the usual spot, and he gobbled it as he usually did with chow. I guess he smelled something wrong about the first can. Talk about appropriate gestures --!

That is not a house cat but a caracal. You're right.

The long-furred red tabby in the background in the first video looks like my late Arizona, even to the shade of his fur. I hope the caracal doesn't think of the tabby as prey.

81 Pets and horses are my hobby so I guess this is my cue to go do some stuff. Horses are not quite pets but not just livestock in my mind.
