Here is a photo of our new and unexpected Christmas puppy. He is an 8 week old Border Collie/Blue Heeler mix and his name is Buckley. I tell myself it was a semi rescue situation since he needed a home and his situation was not ideal. I found out about him thanks to Ben Had... not sure if I've been had yet. She agreed to be on the extended warranty. ? lin-duhCan't get much more adorable than that little fellow. Oh, my! Hey, TGH here; longtime lurker. These pictures are of our beloved Ripley, a two year old Silken Windhoud. Ripley excels in the sport of LGRA: large gazehound racing. It's a two hundred yard straight track race. Here's Ripley in fine form, and winning it all this fall at the Ohio Classic Silken Windhound specialty, with his bling. When not racing, he's the perfect bed companion and couch potato. What exciting photos! Hope it's okay that I obscured the human faces. Not that they are not lovely, too. The bling is impressive. Congratulations! Dixie the Dog of Jinx the Cat at ease by the fire. And Rocky the Dog of Jinx the Cat learning to play the bagpipes. RickThere's a contrast. You have some dogs with personality at your house! Mudd (the little one) and Slush watching the game. They were cheering for the Eagle's because they are Jalen Hurts fans from his BAMA days. Roll Tide! JohnnyThe dogs look absorbed in the game! Thank you for sharing your pets with us. Still accepting donations towards the unkindest cut of all There's another more extensive photo update #219 at the link. Take a look if interested. Make sure to click on "See Older Updates" as well if it's your first time. https://is.gd/WQ5JcT The outside lady, Rose, has been coming into the house the last few days. She didn't seem to mind the other cats and they in turn were very interested in her but friendly. I can see her becoming our inside/outside cat as we had for many years when we moved into the house. We lost 4 to traffic, even though it's a side road but a shortcut in some ways, so everyone decided to bring them all in as they were also aging. Rose does not seem to wander far from the walls of the house and that's good. I don't think those bovines are so much interested in the hippy music as much as they're curious why tattoo man has his face pierced by a nose ring.

Dogs are smart, and they can be trained to get along with cats or horses, though it might not come naturally.

About 15 years ago or so I was checking the mail at my apartment complex when I was poked by a wet nose. Turned around and it was a greyhound. Turns out this was a retired racing greyhound whose owner was nearby (on a leash as I recall). I’ve always thought that dogs are so attuned to people, they can tell which ones like dogs or don’t. I figured the greyhound thought I was a dog person and just wanted to say “Hi”. 😎

Snort, Dixie is the opposite of our dog, Luna. She does NOT like fire in the fireplace. Her living room bed is normally in front of our fireplace--we're in Texas so it's not used that much--but when we have a fire she won't go near it.

Somehow, Daisy dog's ball-flinger disappeared a couple of weeks ago.
Her cousins Chowie & Maya were here for Christmas, and all 3 got new squeaky toys. But we waited until the next morning to present Daisy with a special wrapped gift. She ripped off the ribbon and tore off the wrapping like a pro; got a little distracted at the end by the last bit of wrapping, but then recognized the gift, a new ball-flinger. Excited & delighted, and ready to play fetch! Posted by: mindful webworker - BALL! at December 30, 2023 04:12 PM (xF/Gx) 29
With colder weather, it has been interesting. Fanny has been holed up in the converted garage, snce it's the warmest room in the house. Mr Trouble has been coming in to sleep. He's fine as long as it's late when he comes in. He crashes out on the couch. I shut Jake in the bedroom with me. Troubles goes out when I get up and the house belongs to Fanny and Jake again.
Fanny was limping yesterday. I set up a heating pad for her and it helps. At some point this winter, I want to take Trouble in to be neutered. He sure does enjoy getting to come in to sleep. Posted by: Notsothoreau at December 30, 2023 04:16 PM (L8hCM) 30

Oh my! Every pet thread is great but today's is even greater than usual. The cartoons had me laughing out loud and the petmorons are especially adorable. But the video with the blind and deaf dog touched my heart. One of our first dogs was a white standard poodle who went blind at four years old. He lived long enough to go deaf as well. But he would greet us like the pup in the video. Never lost his sense of smell for us or for whatever we were eating.
What a wonderful memory. Posted by: JTB at December 30, 2023 04:42 PM (7EjX1) 38

When our white poodle went blind at such a comparatively young age we were shocked that most people, including the vet, assumed we would have him put down. That never entered our minds. Glad we followed our own opinions. We had him for eight more years until old age claimed him. Posted by: JTB at December 30, 2023 05:20 PM (7EjX1) 54

I had a most pleasant surprise the other day. While moving a cabinet around I found some pictures of Murphy. I have told her story before but I will repeat myself. Murphy was found in a bar ditch with a ruptured diaphragm at about 8 weeks old. My dear friend ran the SPCA facility and knew she could always hit me up. When I got Murphy my business partner was dying of cancer and I was working 20 hours a day. Murphy took every step with me. Her favorite thing was to ride in the truck and stop at mickeyd's for a kids cheeseburger. She brought joy to my life for 19 years.
