Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

* * *

Ready for some happy dogs?

Which one would you like to walk (or prance) with?

* * *

Perfect!

* * *

A great pet story courtesy of Hal Dall MD:

Lost Faithorn toddler found asleep in woods with family dogs

A 2-year-old girl who walked away from her home in Michigan's Upper Peninsula alongside two family dogs was found in the woods hours later sleeping on the smaller dog like a furry pillow, state police said.

"She laid down and used one of the dogs as a pillow, and the other dog laid right next to her and kept her safe," Lt. Mark Giannunzio said Thursday. "It's a really remarkable story." . . .

Wonderful to have such faithful pets! Imagine what the guy who found them thought when he first saw the toddler and dogs together.

Speaking of meetings:

Meet The PetMorons

pupcat 2.jpg

Hi, I'm a longtime AOSHQ lurker, and I comment about once a year under the name Mr. W. I have been wanting to see my nog Pupcat featured in your prestigious pixels for a while.

Here Pupcat is pictured doing her best imitation of my grandson sleeping. Pupcat's real name is Roxy, but nobody calls her that on account of Roxy being a classic stripper name. You might as well name her Savannah or Crystal.

Anyway, Pupcat is justifiably famous in Old Town Alexandria Virginia for her love of fine food and being petted. Pupcat drinks milk, chases mice, and sleeps 16 hours a day, all of which, along with her meowish growl, produced her name.

She will be thrilled with the knowledge that her fame had spread nationally. From one off-brand cereal kid to another, I love the content

Regards,

Mr. W

Pupcat is absolutely charming. Although we did not post her napping companion's photo, she really did do a good imitation of how he was sleeping.

Pita.jpg

From Jewells:

This is Pita, a female mix of chihuahua and corgi and maybe something else. She's a real sweetheart, a little shy but warms up to you quickly. Already have someone interested in her. She was a stray but vet says 9 to 10 years old.

Love that photo! She should find a new home quickly, I think.

Well despite all of our felines only able to shoot blanks at Chez Jacque Asserie, our cat population has again increased by 1. Meet Chowder (CHOWDAHHH since we're in New England). Chowdah is actually my older son's girlfriend's cat and since she's living with us now, so is Chowdah. He's actually a cute cat and now the ginger vs black cat ratio is now 2:3 (with Mackeral being the outlier "other" cat). He's slowly acclimating to his new environment and cautiously checks out the other cats from behind the glass door. Remarkably, he doesn't seem to mind the other moron, Fred the dog. Unfortunately, for poor Johnny who just wants to make friends, Chowdah isn't amenable to his fellow feline brethren just yet.

BTW - I added a picture of our K-9 moron, Fred for comic relief.

To tell the truth, I'm not sure which cat is which or if I got them all, but they're all nice-looking. Fred the Dog is distinctive.

4 We have been in our upstairs apartment for a month now. Lucy the Fink is a different kitty. She is playing and rambunctious and eating more and seems all around happier. It makes me sad our little hobbit hole was depressing to her. It was getting to me too. But she's happy and Finky now!

7 Well, whaddaya know! I'm normally not able to jump into the Pet Thread this early. How are all the fine young and old beasts?

Chowdah, esp. in pic three as he looks up toward the camera, is almost a dead ringer for my late Arizona. AZ was the giant red classic tabby w/white who resembled, but probably was not, a Maine Coon. His fur was very much the same flaming red as Chowdah's. He would never have happily allowed himself to be held as in pic one, though.

13 My two thugs joined me in the bed this afternoon, Stirling during my nap -- he was there when I woke up, anyway, and milk-treaded me -- and Dagny after I woke. The latter needs to go in for her rabies shot; I guess I'll make an appointment for her next Saturday morning.

Yesterday I picked up some small cans of the Blue Buffalo Wilderness kitten food, the stuff I raised both of these two on. It's true neither is a kitten now, ca. 18 months old, both of them. But Dagny won't eat Friskies or the BB Tasteful blend any more. She's still filling out, and they both need some wet food. So Stirling gobbles his Friskies canned, Dagny the Wilderness, and both get Purina One dry. Everybody is happy.

21 Always makes me feel good to see the pets and some of their stories and to hear the great love their owners have for them.

Dog fixing car made me laugh. I actually prefer picture a dog "fixing" a car than picture of handsome hunk with a 9/16th or whatever in his hand (Picture provided by Joe Mannix for the 'ettes) because men fixing cars while they wear underwear looks silly. Pupcat has a lovely face, Pita is adorable , I love the beautiful cats and I'm glad the dog puts up with all of them.

Our black cat, Pynchon must be happy that we have some sun now, because he's sitting on top of the couch near the window, Pynchon is back after the summer to again being a lap cat on FenSpouse (I guess it was too hot then.)

28 Got some great news this week about Precious the Bichon. She had a growth removed from her belly area and it was benign. She's gone through that and had to have some teeth removed due to gum infections. But she has come through it all and gotten more lively and joyful. (When not asleep.) Obviously a tough little thing. She has some kidney problems but that isn't unusual in a small 15 year old dog. Antibiotics to the rescue. She is just a joy to have around.

31 The Sewerage & Water people are doing some work up the street and have turned off the water up here. I have several big bottles of water, some tap and some spring, so neither the cats nor I will lack for drinking water (presuming the workers turn the taps back on sometime today). I can't shower, though. There's the old trick of soaking a hand towel in a bowl of water and wiping yourself down to get the worst sweat &c. off you. But I would find it hard to wash my hair that way.

I might have to run to the grocery and buy some spring water.

32 Yayy yayy! Pet Thread Pet Thread!

Pupcat's real name is Roxy, but nobody calls her that on account of Roxy being a classic stripper name.

Hey! One of our dearest cats (well, they're all dear) was a little chubbo that showed up out at the barn one day. For reasons of coloration, she got the long name of Roxy Rolex Raccoon - and there may have been a few others I've forgotten. Roxy was a wonderful kitty.
___

We're having a bit of a crisis here today. There is not one tennis ball left that hasn't been slobbered and chewed to death by Daisy. How can we play Fetch?

You've seen those pix of dogs with multiple balls in their mouths (like the Aug 26 cartoon
https://acecomments.mu.nu/?post=405814)? Daisy's narrow Malinois snout can't accommodate more than one at a time. That doesn't stop her from trying to pick up a second one, but that means she drops the first one, but then she wants to pick up the dropped one, and that means she has to drop the second one, but that… etc.

43
O God, enlarge within us the sense of fellowship with all living things, for our brothers and sisters, the inarticulate beasts, to whom Thou gave the earth as their home in common with us. We remember with shame that in the past we have exercised the high dominion of humanity with ruthless cruelty so that the voice of the earth, which should have gone up to thee in song has become a groan of anguish and a cry of torment. May we realize that they live not for us alone, but for themselves and for Thee, and that they too love the sweetness of life.

46 Crisis momentarily avoided. Found two tennis balls that weren't totally mangled, so Daisy just had a good run.

My favorite is to fake like I'm throwing the ball North and Daisy runs off that way, then I throw it South, and she charges that direction, shifting to ultra-turbo speed. Always amazes me. Gotta try to get some video of it.

When she can't manage to drop the ball, the game is up.

Thanks for the post, KT.
