Heading toward Sacramento?

sacrmento delta.jfif

Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta
Not much of this year's record rain and snowfall in California
will be stored for use in drought years

Can we maybe stop using Sacramento as a model for the future and start using it as a warning? There were some people who did some pretty good forward planning in years past in California, but Jerry Brown (for example) ignored his dad's plans for water storage reservoirs and concentrated on the dream of a bullet train. He later decided that he would need to drain the Sacramento delta to serve urban water needs. Does this sound like a long-term solution to you?

As for the bullet train dream, the lack of reservoir water in the foothill elevations of the Central Valley led to a lot of ground water pumping, and parts of the beginning phases of construction of the (no longer quite high-speed) rail system were flooded because the ground where some of the construction sits has sunk up to 24 feet. The high-speed rail people had done their own elevation study, with similar results, but decided that risking having the rail line underwater was no big deal. Some of them apparently thought that drought was permanent, due to "Climate Change".

When the construction sites flooded in March, water had to be pumped into flood control canals. In the past, it flowed into the canals naturally.

This is the first hot weekend since the record snowpack in the Sierras. Nail-biting time for lots of people. They're getting serious about flood control in Bakersfield. Finally. And for the first time in 17 years, water from the Kern River will be released into the California Aqueduct to keep it out of the growing Tulare Lake. Usually, the water from the California Aqueduct carries water from sources much further to the north.

When the water gets high enough in the revived Tulare Lake, some of it flows through the San Joaquin river up to the Delta. For years, I thought that water was being diverted from farmland in the Central Valley to the Delta to maintain the Delta Smelt. I didn't know that both Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom had plans to drain the Delta for urban water.

Gavin Newsom makes a short comment on the situation from time to time, sometimes interrupting his "Scold the Red States" tour to "Scold Certain People in California".

Newsom and Reparations

J.J. Sefton posted some great links this week on Gavin Newsom's Reparations Task Force and his rejection of their recommendations.

They were only asking for $1.2 million for each black resident. Citizens allowed to comment to the Task Force recommended up to $200 million dollars each. No amount of reparations will ever be enough.

But Larry Elder has been having some fun with the issue.

What about white people who identify as black?

What about descendants of early Chinese immigrants to California who were victims of racism?

Socialists thrilled by California Jungle Primaries

James Lindsay recommends that people who follow him read a piece in the far-left Jacobin mag, The Road to American Socialism Runs Through California. You can follow the link in his tweet if you feel the need.

Socialists have unique advantages in California, where a "jungle" primary system elevates the top two candidates to the general election regardless of party affiliation, and the Republican Party is moribund. Let's take advantage of it.

They are talking out-and-proud socialists here. Not Socialists pretending to be Democrats. There are a few other advantages they cite for socialists in California.

And the Republican Party in California is in the process of disappearing.

Can we maybe pay more attention to state and local elections and avoid some of these innovations like "jungle primaries"? Check the comments in the Twitter thread:

Resistance

An online acquaintance has been participating in volunteer uploading of (technical/scientific) knowledge to ChatGPT. That's one way to push back against the kind of result from a ChatGPT query below. But the Left is ahead:

*

Here's another possible form of resistance. One that is probably more practical for more people:

In his rousing keynote address at The Heritage Foundation's 50th anniversary gala last month, then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson offered an unexpected piece of advice: "Don't throw away your hard-copy books."

Unlike digitized books, films, and albums that can be canceled, rewritten, or vanished altogether, physical copies are "the enduring repository that cannot be disappeared."

With their resurrection of poetry recitation requirements, educators in Georgia and Arkansas are protecting that repository in more ways than one, steeping students in a reality they can affirm, trust, and love.

Both states' departments of education recently proposed revised K-12 English language arts standards that would require that students recite "all or part of significant poems and speeches as appropriate by grade level," as the Georgia standards put it.

5 Demonstrating, yet again, how Dems pimp blacks for votes.

While I agree with Larry Elder, this is yet another example of how it's all someone else's fault. No. It's black's fault. They keep voting for the people who are doing this. They keep trying to get something for nothing. After all, if someone's offering, what's the harm? The harm is to your work ethic, sense of pride, and dignity.

I have rather limited experience of being a pimp, but based on Hollywood's product, I imagine it's not a voluntary arrangement. This is.

Also, with rain followed by lots of dry comes fire. A very natural cycle in Kali since well before Europeans were here.
But yeah, Kali is screwed. You're left with two choices: believing insane people are running the state, or sane people who want to destroy it; I believe its a bit of both: people believing in crzy things who want to destroy it.

That's exactly what they're doing if you look at everything as a whole.

2030 is coming quickly, and they are intent on their plans of destruction being in place by then. I don't know what makes that date so special but I'm beginning to think it has something to do with the occult. Those folks are big into that.

You aren't going to drive, you aren't going to have AC, you aren't going to have natural gas, etc., and crazy that is being planted and cultivated today will be maturing to a point we can only imagine. Like I said, I think it's some attempt to ramp up misery because they intend to feed something off of it.

It's psychological. It's gas-lighting. Why do Palis continue to want to kill Jews? This is what they are taught at home, in their mosques, and in their schools. The same is here: Blacks are told the country and White people are the reason for all their troubles and the Dems (who were and are the party of enslavement) are their saviours.

22 It's worth reading what Our Betters and their corporations actually say, too. This is Jim Beam's mother company Suntory (all in on child grooming, btw):

"Plastic products have enriched our lives through their usefulness. On the other hand, the environmental impact caused by improper handling of used plasticshas become a social problem. "

https://tinyurl.com/2noqk8hs

Did you catch it? Plastics are bad not because they're really any significant environmental problem, but because they're a social problem. And society has to be forced to change because some CEO or company ("stakeholder" in UN / WEF terms, and an important word to remember because you don't elect them) has decided that they're a social problem.

Some have suggested that "turnout" in large cities is all the proof you need to show that massive ballot fraud has been in place for decades.

One can subscribe to the notion that black people are stupid fools who keep voting for Democrats, or one can consider the possibility that the same people who have disdain for government in other forms, right or wrong, are not as eager to head to the polls (or mail in the anonymous ballot) as the results seem to show.

They claimed that global warming caused drought was the new normal and there was nothing they could do about it. They even refused to fund repairs on spillways of the oroville dam spillway because they said with 100% certainty that there would never be enough water in the lake for them to have to use the spillway so it would be a waste of $$$ to fix it. Then in 2017 the dam and spillway failed because of record rainfall and they had to evacuate over 200,000 people downstream.

82 Do blacks still vote overwhelmingly for Dems? I have no idea but I have zero trust at this point that there’s any correlation between the number of counted ballots and real, human voters and their preferences. Did Newsom beat his recall? All I know is I voted for his recall along with everyone I know….. but the ballot result was in his favor 2-to-1. I no longer live in Cali, partially due to the evilness or insanity of its leaders (take your pick which, I don’t know).

When a single party controls the vote counting apparatus it should be no surprise when that party also wins all the elections. I grew up in Chicago. I know whereof I speak.

Personally, I think Utah is the most beautiful state in the nation, and other than in the area around that cesspit of a city up north, for the most part government leaves you the F alone in the rest of the state.

And the Mormons don't annoy me too much.

I might consider living there, if I didn't have to work for my supper. Same with Wyoming, but really, it's just too damn cold up there. Beautiful and desolate, but cold... just like my women.

223 I think the World Bank, er, US, $$ for Tijuana sewage treatment projects goes back to the 1980s. In a stunning development, it hasn't been effective/unplanned growth has stayed ahead of it/lack of maintenance etc has resulted in continued pollution of the river basin (really don't know, but probably a combo of all these).

Don't keep track year-round but only recall poor Imperial Beach, right down near the border, being seriously affected recently/frequently. Don't remember even Coronado, just up the coast, having water quality issues very often.

"GOP is moribund" is correct, and it's not unrelated to the national GOP condition. GOP in most of CA offers nothing to vote for, really - just Dem lite ("hey, we're less racist, less stupid, less authoritarian, vote for us!" about sums it up). I've seen it close up, recently. Pathetic. Incredible, really.

227 Everyone often forgets that Musk is NOT a conservative in any way because he doesn't want to join the International Fascist Party and has enough money to avoid being forced in. He's an old style counterculture type who dreams of utopias that don't follow traditional values. Musk purports to be rabidly pro-free speech, which is of course a traditionally liberal point of view.

What strikes people as curious about this choice is this woman appears to be very much about peddling propaganda, at the expense of free speech.

Musk is a very smart guy. When I see something like this that doesn't seem to add up, I assume he's got another agenda. Buying Twitter is a perfect example. Situation varies quite a bit, place to place, and by personal circumstance and interests. If your circumstances work and your interests coincide with the amazing natural/geographic/selected lifestyle treasures still available, it can be fine.

Country as a whole is trashing itself, with little sign of interest in regaining common sense, so running out the clock here is a no-brainer in my case.

Austin isn't Texas, it's an enemy city that got plopped into the middle somehow.

On average, cities that are based on the university are enemy beachheads. Professors were once men of tradition and wisdom, but over the last 50 years they have become on average people of insanity and disconnect while getting more and more economic power. University towns become controlled by the enemy

She almost got a house last week, but someone came in at the last second and paid CASH (almost $700k).

The yoots blame this on us old farts selling our houses in the burbs and moving closer in to the city, which is true. My guess is that it's also that DC has become like London, and there's a lot of foreign capital being parked in DC real estate.

318 San Diego's first Dem mayor in many years just took office recently. Of course the quality/nature of the GOP ones in the two decades prior is what you'd expect. A downward trajectory, from the traditional Chamber of Commerce/former police chief type to the comically useless current CA GOP type, such as the last one.

It's far too late (it was a serious thing in the late 70s) to say "yeah everybody don't come, don't even visit!", to prevent many things being ruined or at least degraded by too much growth, but those thinking of visiting would do well to ignore the standard issue reports of the end of the world.

Interests vary, but there isn't a thing here that would bring me to visit that's affected by crime or homelessness. It's not NYC, in terms of why you'd visit or what's going on, not even remotely close.

349 "Jungle primaries" are great for the ruling party. They practically guarantee that an opposition cannot gain a foothold on power through elections. The easiest way is to flood the primary with straw candidates who are nominally for the opposition, to fragment the opposition vote and ensure that the candidates of the united radicals gain a plurality. There's a reason why Chicago adopted a "jungle primary", and it ain't because the Democratic Party machine is interested in widening the base of democracy.
