Ace of Spades Pet Thread, Thanksgiving Weekend

dog day after thanksgiving.jpg

* * *

Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat, or are you still as stuffed as the little guy above?

Let's focus on the critters and leave the world of politics and current events outside today. That can wait.

Ruff Crowd

Meet The PetMorons

sadiesald.jpg

My dad is a long-time reader of your website and he often shows me pictures and videos from your pet threads. I'm a pet sitter and have been bugging him for ages to send photos of the pets I watch. He claims that he can't because they are "not our pets." Well frankly, that's a horrible excuse. So I am taking initiative and doing it myself!

Meet Sadie, she is an old rescue dog I watched for about a week. She loves defying physics and sitting on the sofa. When she was not sleeping, she was following me around or sliding all over the tile. 10/10 she is one of my favorite dogs I've watched.

-Hi Dad!

Hi, Dad! Hi, Sadie!

beggin for pretzel.jpg

From Eric:

Here's Woodson, our 8 year old Staffordshire waiting for the green light on the peanut butter filled pretzel.

We rescued him from the county shelter where pits and pit mixes are euthanized daily. They had him slated for his rainbow bridge walk the following day had we not brought him home. He is the most peaceful, gentle, happy dog I've ever been around, and I've had many breeds including the "safe" ones. He doesn't bark unless teased with food. Truly the perfect dog. Yet because of the stupid generalizations of these breeds I had to practically beg to keep him in our rental home in Visalia, CA - paid an extra month rent, had to get a breed-specific ins policy that cost me a nice chunk as well. More of the typical societal dumb that surrounds us. But he is worth every penny and I didn't hesitate. Thanks KT.

So patient!

draggnn.jpg

From Christopher - Someone is hiding for the winter:

You've featured our dragons several times over the years. Just thought you might get a laugh out of seeing her hiding in her little cave

Fun!

Tashatc.jpg

Fetching picture of our 5 year old Seal Point Siamese. But don't be fooled by the cute: she's quite obnoxious
to the older, aloof Bombay. Still, she gets are treats through the power of her blue-eyed gaze.

Rick

She knows all the angles.

vestnbeach.jpg

Corgis are notoriously opinionated. Here's Rinc (a Pembroke) communicating his contempt for Phil Murphy's People's Republic of NJ. He had a point. Rinc's pack decamped the Jersey Shore shortly after this photo was taken and now shuttles between Florida's First Coast and Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau. Rinc's still bossy, but his humans are freer.

Thanks to everyone at Ace of Spades HQ for all you do.

Lurker MG

Looks quite regal for a corgi in this shot, I think.

That's my wife, every time we've had to put one down. And every time, within a couple of months, she's ready to get another one. More than 20 years and four dogs later, she says that when the one we have now goes, he's the last. I'm skeptical.

44 Elvis and I have spent much of the day sitting on our perch by the fire pit looking over the conservation land watching countless birds hit the feeders, squirrels cleaning up whatever drops, numerous rabbits daring to defy Elvis' sanctum and then somehow managing to outrun him and a doe inexplicably wander right put to the property, look us over and then slowly turn and walk away while Elvis just watched.

I'm beginning to think his hound instincts are overrated.

Our sons cat Midnight that he found in a minefield while we were stationed in Cuba got up the big tree we had in our backyard there. No way I was climbing that thing and finally the cat started to come down.

He fell from about 15-20 feet up and hit the ground hard but was OK. I told my son that his cat had used up one life and only had 8 left to go.

48 My human the mindful one was threatening to nap right through the Pet Thread again, so I pawed at him. I'm sure the yelling he did was thanking me for that. Then I took him for a little walk in the mist, just in time, before the heavier rain started. I deserve a treat.

"He wanted to get on that ferry" —boy, that cat is dumb. Even I know the magic picture box is a closed window. I really enjoy watching critters, like on Ace's café. Especially that noblest of beasts, the dogs. Prancing baby rhinos are also cool to watch.

Hah! My sister kitteh loves to climb also. I have a few frees that I allow her to climb but one of them has a path to my roof. Usually she'll listen to me and not to attempt that path . Well I turned my back and that was all she needed and she made it to the roof. I proceeded to pull the ladder out of the garage to go get her and she heard the ruckus and found the path down on her own. Good kitteh.

I want whoever gets them to know them as well as I do. I've made financial provisions in my will also. Where I've made a mistake is not acclimating them with other people when they were kittens / younger. They are scared of other people but not mean. At least very well behaved when employees at the vets handle them. Hopefully it will never come to that 😀

91 The rule I use for litter boxes is
1 per cat, plus 1 spare.
So 2 cats = 3 litter boxes.
Tend to them daily, in a perfect world

92 >>It’s like the hate everyone has for the Yankees, or had good r the Patriots under Brady (a former Michigan player).

I don't hate Michigan. Of all the perennial powers they are one I don't mind. But I like watching schools that don't have all the advantages of the Yankees or the Pats with Brady or Michigan win. Like a TCU who might just be one of the best teams in the country this year.

It gets boring watching the overwhelming favorites win all the time.

93 When I was a kid our dog Clancy, a French briard mix, ate a large pile of Christmas cookies that had left out for Santa. She then proceeded to barf all over the presents under the tree. It made for very interesting looking wrapping paper.

97 92 odd that you bring up Brady, Michigan and the Yankees. When Brady was first a Michigan he was beaten out for the starting job by Drew Henson, who later played for the Yankees (before the NFL)

99 Harbaugh was a foul mouthed cheating pos when he coached at Stanford. Then he gave cover and made excuses for that America hating asshole Kapernick.

Nope.

I didn't bring up Brady. Bulgaroctonus did. I just watched every free agent for 16 years flock to the Pats because they had him and an owner who was tight with the NFL leadership.

He's obviously a great player although as many are now discovering kind of a dick. I just like underdogs.

104 91 that is the ideal, you are absolutely correct, or also a box on each floor of the house. This worked well with our big house in NJ where we had a basement, etc. We really downsized when we built this house so there isn’t a place to put another huge tote for them. It would be in the upstairs hallway and that just feels like it wouldn’t be an amazing aesthetic. I feel bad, but they have to manage with one and I just clean it a lot for them. They have commandeered a whole corner of the counter for their water fountain, and a spot under the island and another spot in the dining area for food which leads to a lot of mopping, if I had to do it all over again, I would make quite a few tweaks to our floor plan to make it a bit more user friendly.

105 100 Don’t care. If he can defeat THE Ohio State spawn of that asshoe Woody Hayes, who actually punched an opposing player, then I’m good.

Plus, I was in the Navy, so foulmouthedness means nothing to me:

106 I got this interesting litter box. It's three pieces. Two are regular litter trays. The third is a strainer. You have it set up as tray, strainer, tray. Empty the top tray into the strainer, then shake the clean litter to the bottom tray. Dump the clumps in the strainer and put in on the old top tray. They go under what was the bottom tray. Really easy to keep it clean.

107 Polinikes: A friend adopted a ten year old cat that had only had one person. My friend was very patient. It took a few weeks, but Bluebell is happy as a little cat can be nowadays. She sleeps on my friend's lap constantly, and orders him around. I adopted a brother/sister pair for the bookstore when they were four. Within less than a week, both cats were settled in, understood the new schedule, and were greeting my customers like they were old friends. I believe that animals that have been well treated all their lives will calmly adjust to new situations. Sadly, it's the ones that have been mistreated that have issues. Those poor little guys have to learn that they are loved and will never be mistreated again.

Absolutely. My big black Wolf cat had obviously never been mistreated, just neglected and left behind. I took him in and he adjusted swiftly to being my friend -- and he and Chekov made friends in an hour. All my others have either been kittens, or had been well treated, I guess.

Must be a pattern - Bengals had a QB named Andy Dalton who was pretty effective for a while, Red Haired and from TCU. He's QB for the Saints right now. His nickname was "red rifle"

Lovely Staffordshire! I've had a few pitbulls; each one a lovely girl.
My neighbor has a male, and that dog is scary looking! Until you meet this dog 🥰
My girldog - a rescue - loves this guy. The most vicious behavior I see as a threat is the nonstop kisses and tail wagging he insists that I sit for...
Pits are more often than not very sweet dogs
