Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Jack, Winston, and Anna try to simultaneously stay as close to me and as far away from Robbie Roomba as they can.

John

Robbie Roomba is very scary!

Edison tried on some bat wings for Halloween. I argued that they clashed with his fur color but he claimed that matched his nose exactly. Either way, he was awfully cute.

Debra T.

A dog with wings!

From Jewells:

This is is Wilbur a very big beagle! He was fostered out but that didn't work out so he came to Shep's. We took care of a big owie on his head and he's healing nicely. We have already integrated him with the other dogs so he obviously gets along well with other doggies. He's 10 years old.

Looks like a friendly guy.

2 Love the Paddington Dog, KT. Pretty spot on!

3 My golden "puppy" (70 lbs now) chewed up a $300 pair of prescription sunglasses. Then he rolled over for a belly rub.

Bastard.

Yeah, I rubbed his belly.

4 And Wilbur is wearing the cone of shame - and still seems happy. When our dog-human Charlie gets the cone of shame - he's depressed beyond belief.

Yeah, why do we do that? My dog-human Charlie ran through out the fence and out into the street the other day and I chased him and yelled at him - he just rolled over and smiled - and I rubbed him. I hated myself for doing it.

10 Good dogs all. Even when you question the belly rubbing.

Thank you Jewells45 for helping your team keep our companions able to give more love and affection.

OT: The Podcast was great. I feel better, and a tad smarter (there are top end limits here), listening to Dave in Fla's analysis. May we have an extinction level event on the evil party. Then we fix the stupid party. If only politicians had all the virtues of a family dog.

23 As always, a lovely group of Moron pets...In my own household, my latest addition Allie, now seems to be fully integrated into the house (more or less). I give her free rein to explore the house at night (I used to keep her locked up in the library). And yesterday I let her out all day while I was at work. No major incidents with Kaylee.

24 Yay, Pet Thread! Thanks, K.T.

🐕 I might've napped through it, but a fellow just came to our door, so Daisy the Malinois had to bark at him. And by bark I mean it sounded like someone firing a pistol in the house. Woke up with a big dose of adrenaline!

Just doing her job as home defender. Yesterday, while Daughter was visiting us, Daisy started sniffing and pawing behind some boxes in the corner. Figure that snake was about three feet long. Harmless garden type - I'm pretty sure. 🐍

Quite a scene ensued. Too big for the Mindful Webworks Bug Cup™ system. Tried to catch it in the butterfly net, but it hugged the wall too tightly. Daughter said, when her cats bring a snake in, she uses tongs to grab it. Which we did. With all the chasing, dog snapping, net bonking, and tong-tweezing, the thing was bleeding a bit by the time it was released outside. So it goes. Good dog. Treat earned.

(Okay, Pixy, I'll continue in another comment)

No cat photos today. 🐈 Ony the Cat objects.

Ony's got to the point where she tolerates Daisy. Several times now, Daisy has managed to get Ony to chase her, which is hilarious; Daisy thinks it's a great game, and I think little Ony likes having the power over that big ol' canine.

34 Afternoon, all! Handsome canines!

The black cat chomping on the pumpkin stem has teeth much like my late Wolf the big longhaired black. Stirling the new black cat's choppers are not as large, not yet.

He was napping with me just now, and Dagny the little brown torbie Siberian was perched atop some boxes in the bedroom corner. I was thinking, "Okay, fine, be distant." I come out here and settle at the laptop, and guess who toddles out and curls up on the cushion right next to me? And is purring? Either she likes my company, or she is fascinated at how the little black bugs appear from nowhere on the computer screen. Maybe a little of both.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 05, 2022 04:30 PM (c6xtn)

35 The "Karen, get up" sculpture is very true. Little Tatiana the Wonder Siberian used to do that, mostly at 2 am. She wanted to play. Wolf, later, would climb up next to me on the pillow and paw at my head. Just the lightest of touches, but you knew about the claws, and you knew he was insisting I get up and feed him.

Dagny just moved onto my lap. Well, onto my leg, but she's purring and looking with interest at the screen.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at November 05, 2022 04:33 PM (c6xtn)

36 The prime cat real estate in my house appears to be the top shelf in my closet. None of the cats can reach it so they need to be put up there. My big black tom jump from the bed to my shoulders and use me to get up there, my fluffy grey girl has to be picked up and put up there after she meows at me for several minutes.

I think they just want some place to lair up now that Winter is closing in.

A, glad to know you're back home. B, Oreo the little tuxedo longhair did that once for me. I'd come back from oral surgery and was lying on the bed, half out of it, and I felt her climb up next to me, settle, and purr. And she normally did not sleep with me even when I napped.

Guess who gets to babysit on the days she teaches. Yes. Yes, it's me. Me with the Border Collie puppy. I've discovered the meaning of 'too much energy'. On pup's part, not mine.

47 Since this is the esteemed pet thread, I shall share a wee story. As far as I can tell, Frenchie Conor got into something he should not even though he is never off leash but was obviously rather sick since this past May. He went through blood-tests and antibiotics etc. but only improved very slowly. The key indicator was that he really lost his appetite, some thing totally unlike the starving dog he had been for most of his life.

However, a miracle apparently occurred when I kenneled him for six days while I relaxed in the company of fellow Morons in Texas. When I brought him home from the kennel, he started cleaning his plate again, so much so that I increased his rations slightly to his normal pre illness level. Thank goodness he seems to be back to being the feisty pup I have had for a little over ten years now!

I will be doing a vet follow-up, but I am overjoyed at having my friend and companion back in fine fettle.

65 When I visited back east I fell in love with a 2 or 3 year old tuxedo cat, probably the most affectionate cat I ever petted. Anyway, it's a stray but it lives on my sister's property. They don't let it inside due to one of the kids has allergies.
So I built a "cat house" for it while I was there. It has carpet and a heating pad.
The cat just loves it.

One of my four backyard feral -> domesticated kittens is a grey female either tortoiseshell or calico. I can't quite tell if one part of her fur is a light tan or white.

Either way, she fits the chewing pattern. Starts licking your fingers and within several seconds, is chewing on them. Thankfully, she's a light touch and doesn't break the skin.

Sometimes cats just split up the roles in different ways you don't expect. At one time there was a thing where one cat would sit down beside me in a chair unless it was a rainy day then a different cat would be affectionate. He was the largest male and in most situations would be 'on guard' and watching over everyone.

Nowadays when in bed my girl cat Rhea has most of the get along duties but if its mid morning or mid evening two of the boys come over to be pet, but always together.

73 "Edison is in the lead for cutest but I haven't heard his bark."

...Edison does not really bark. Every once in a while he will chuff at the UPS delivery truck and give me a soft, very soft, woof if he really needs to go out, but he is almost always a silent observer in the world and was like that when we adopted him 10 years ago. Did his former owners train it out of him or was he naturally more like a cat? I hope it is natural.
