Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Maybe we should be teaching kids to readWhen you are not with what majority of Americans are, then you know, that is extreme. That is an extreme way of thinking. Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary When a reporter asked why Biden was refusing to comment on the slaughter of 13 American soldiers at that gate in Afghanistan -- victims of his catastrophic bug-out -- Karine Jean-Pierre said, "oh, he issued a statement... on twitter." He didn't appear on video. Because he didn't want to remind anyone. . . Surprise! His media allies took the hint and did not report on the Kabul bombing. When you don't actually want a message to get out in the Age of Video, the Age of Illiteracy, you "issue a statement" which requires reading, thus guaranteeing that its reach is self-limited. And they do the same with Biden's -- and their own -- violent street paramilitaries, refusing to condemn them on video. Oh, they'll attack "Extreme MAGA" on video. But never, ever the people firebombing pro-life pregnancy crisis centers. Never the people threatening Supreme Court Justices. Those, they encourage. No one will condemn Biden for inciting his shock troops to action, nor for refusing to tell them to not commit acts of violence. Because they're all on the same page. They want this.Emphasis mine. (Don't comment on old threads). Some people are already on the edge. Imagine people who are shocked that older people support the police:
You want to know about a funny feeling? It's a very funny feeling when you're up at 3 am revising a book, giving it your all, finding the best words, while at the exact same time you know that the young public's ability to read the sentences you're writing is swiftly vanishingThis guy's recent Twitter posts are varied and interesting. He recommended our music for today, as a reflection of the mood created by Biden's big war speech. National Democrats, party-aligned nonprofits, and some of their candidates have together spent millions to elevate the most extreme positions of far-right candidates in races in Pennsylvania, Illinois, Colorado, and Maryland, and it's a strategy that's divided party operatives. The total investment this cycle was over $44 million as of last quarter, according to an Open Secrets analysis.Maybe the White House should have issued their Call to War a little sooner: And maybe MSNBC needs to help America improve its reasoning skills: Who is the Biden regime at war with and how will the regime win this war? Be specific. Sean DavisThese are questions a real newspaper reporter would have been expected to ask in days of yore. To be fair, Nancy Pelosi's office fleshed out the Democrat position a bit. We're like two hours away from lefty social media censors deleting clips of his Bidenstag Fire speech as "disinformation" and insisting the speech never happenedDid you see Pixy's top story this morning? Twitter had a new plan to fight "extremism" - then Elon Musk arrived. Pixy: If you're guessing that "extremism" means normal people opposing fascist lunatics and the "new plan" was more annoying popups and account bans, then you're absolutely correct. The first cool part is that Elon's bid to buy Twitter caused so much chaos internally that the plan was still-born . . . This is how you know so much of the bleating about "fascism" or addle-pated mush about "semi-fascism" is utterly insincere: the people hurling the loudest allegations are also in favor of unlimited centralized power. They support all the things fascism cannot survive without. A review of the past century suggests that Big Government inevitably trends toward fascism over time. Not only is centralized power an absolute pre-requisite for fascism to exist, but it's increasingly clear that centralized power inevitably metastasizes into fascism. The very notion of fascism or authoritarianism becoming a serious threat in a land of Constitutional rights, individual liberty, small government, and true private ownership of capital is absurd. Fascists under such a system would be blowhards and thugs, not a powerful Party. Fascism - the system in which capital is privately owned, but controlled by the State and ruling Party - is so dangerous because it removes all restraints on power. The Party's private-sector loyalists can do whatever the State is legally barred from doing. . .This brings us to a timely post by Neo on the nature of fascism: Among other things, "fascist" is not the same as "Nazi," although most people are more familiar with the latter group than the former, and most people probably equate the two. If you want to know more, here's an excellent article from 2020 by Angelo Codevilla on the subject of fascism. Fascinating and instructive. How many people know a thing about this history? Few. How many care? These days, probably very few. Here are some timely quotes (and remember, this was written back in 2020) . . .Excellent. Also, via J.J. Sefton's Morning Report on Aug 31, The Federalist: The most vociferous defenders of "democracy" are also the ones who sound suspiciously like they want a one-party state. Modern Democrats have stopped debating policy or accepting the legitimacy of anyone who stands in their way. They will pass massive, generational reforms using parliamentary tricks, without any input from the minority. And they don't merely champion their work as beneficial, they claim these bills are needed for the survival of "democracy" and "civilization" - nay, the survival of the planet. Anyone who opposes saving Mother Earth is surely a fascist. There is nothing to debate. The villainization of political opponents isn't new, but we are breaking new ground. We live in an era where a failed former CIA director, Michael Hayden--the man who was on watch during 9/11--says that he has "never come across a political force more nihilistic, dangerous & contemptible than today's Republicans. . . " . . . It is curious, as well, that the same people who control basically all major institutions in American life--academia, media, unions, Silicon Valley, Wall Street, trade associations, public schools, publishing, the entire D.C. bureaucracy, Hollywood, Madison Avenue, not to mention the presidency and Congress--claim to be victims of budding authoritarianism. The only major institution free of progressives' grip right now is the Supreme Court. And the left is engaged in a systematic effort to delegitimize the court for doing its job and limiting the state's powerYou knew a lot of this before you read it. And you are open to learning more. What about the kids? Maybe more of us should have read some written news reports from local sources (even some which were part of national networks) before Dave Chappelle's reportage. Heh. Teach kids to read. Even white kids Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Didn't resign (have never bothered to check his book* to see if he offered, he musta), Dubya wouldn't accept it if he did so - understand the reasoning, sorta, but still a major mistake. But consistent with the trend of zero resignations or firings connected with major disasters/failures, in recent times.

Will we remember that he changed his rhetoric?
Adolph Hitler did exactly the same thing - he would make a speech threatening the Jews, Poland, whatever, and then a day or two later would make a more moderate statement appearing to walk the first statement back. This was so idiots who thought that Hitler was "a moderate" could say: "Well, he's just a hothead who gets carried away sometimes, but the second speech says what he really thinks." Not true - the first speech was what Hitler believed, of course - the second speech was just cover so that the idiots could avoid facing the truth. I think Biden read the Red Sermon speech beforehand, and believes every word of it - it certainly comports with other things he's said. Any claims that "he walked it back" is just a smokescreen to deceive people that he meant what he said - that he views everyone who opposes him as an enemy of the United States, and that he intends to use extra-Constitutional means to crush them. It is true, and seems paradoxical, that the Nazis indeed faced political or cultural limits on their actions at many points. As BurtTC notes, the descent of Germany into a totalitarian nightmare wasn't instant, it was an evolution, after the "seizure of power" (their word) in 1933.
And it continued even into the war. The Gauleiter (regional Nazi boss) of Bavaria, during the war, started moves against the Church (in Bavaria, this means the RCC). Small start - removing crucifixes from classrooms (where they were standard, as in many Catholic countries/areas). Oops! Major uproar. High-ranking inner circle figures came to Hitler at the Wolf's Lair to support/promote the move against the Church, the Fuhrer said nope - timing was poor, impact on morale could hurt the war effort. And the Nazis' first genocidal project, T4, was hampered and as I recall ended (for then) by public church opposition, this was pre-war. Stalin, whose "system" was in many ways even more "total" in its totalitarian nature than Germany's, didn't have to trim his sails in this way, but was forced to sort of fall back, in a cultural sense, by the desperate circumstances of the war in 1942.
Military decorations bearing the names of traditional, pre-Revolutionary, non-commie military heroes were introduced. Regime rhetoric started to incorporate non-commie elements and references. Perfectly sensible, as obviously in a war like that everyone was fighting literally to protect their homes, families, villages and towns. "For the homeland! For Stalin!" can be seen painted on many Red Army tanks in war photos. So, a bit of nationalism, with a tyrant cult of personality chaser. The journalist Vassiliy Grossman wrote that in Stalingrad, what we would call "irreverent GI humor" among the soldat sarcastically added "For the blue handkerchief!" to the battle cry, a reference to a popular war song about sweethearts separated by war. Even the main Russian war song - "Sacred War" - is a straight nationalist call to arms against an evil invader ("thieves and rapists, torturers of the people"). jim (in CA) yes of course - but sadly (for most) the German invasion brought what was certainly an alien, and in many cases an even more brutal, kind of oppression, so resisting it trumped whatever one felt about the home-grown Party and State.
What we would call naive liberals, like Vassiliy Grossman I referenced above, actually thought that the upheaval of the war and the performance of the population would *certainly* mean a liberalization of the system after victory. The people had earned it, had shown their loyalty, etc. Well. And the homegrown tyranny is of course part of what led to anti-Soviet "collaboration" in many areas, especially western Ukraine and the Baltics*. Or even Vlasov and his guys, Russians who found opposing their homeland under the circumstances the better option. * western then-Ukraine and surrounding areas had a wild recent history and the various nationalisms and sub-nationalisms of the era are dizzying, it wasn't as simple as commies = bad, anyone else = better Posted by: rhomboid at September 03, 2022 12:48 PM (OTzUX) 148

Also, the target was the officers and political officers, not the soldat. And if you read the order, it's kind of interesting, the reasoning is laid out pretty well (simplified: we can't trade space for time, indefinitely).
And the Germans were already using similar methods to ensure discipline at the front, as noted in the order itself. Posted by: rhomboid at September 03, 2022 12:53 PM (OTzUX) 154

mrp, in the fall of 2020 the Dems had (in Trump's accurate phrasing, the worst presidential candidate of modern times), invisible even, who only appeared occasionally at bizarre tiny scripted "press conferences" with idiots sitting in painted circles (the "social distancing" idiocy, formalized), or to say things like he would end the oil industry.
While it's very questionable whether he won the electoral vote cleanly, his actual votes surely matched or exceeded Trump's. 2002, 2010, and 2016 were the last times the electorate (in varying ways, with different specific circumstances) did anything sensible, and seemed to react to reality. A big GOP "win" in November, remember, would be *entirely expected and average, by modern patterns*. As before - and why Trump was a gamble taken, and a gamble won, by those seeking actual change - problem remains whether that "Vote GOP!" button is any longer connected to something called "Actual policy results". This summer, they completed their summer reading and much more, practiced their printing, and the 9 year-old practiced cursive. They made progress in their geography workbooks, worked with rulers and learned some basic geometry. It was easy and fun. And it helped that they were relaxed after mornings at tennis camp. Italians, as a specific group, were further north. At least, that's what archaeologists and such say.

Germany has already sold out of firewood for the coming winter. Sneaky types are presently cutting down forests with heavy equipment for the black market. Thousands of elderly people are going to get sick or perish. Heating during the coming winter is front page news, but how will the Europes cook and address personal hygiene? Water treatment plants don't run on unicorn farts.

Well yes and no. You could join the Roman empire and become a citizen, but there was a specific ethnic group of Romans who ran everything and mostly lived in the city of Rome. They were very focused on making sure that Romans were in charge and the ruling peoples stayed ethnically Roman. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at September 03, 2022 01:42 PM (Ivdso) 241

One thing of note this week: we had a tour by... let's call them... Playthingota. The reason I mention this is that the Playthingota campus in **** has been the worst enforcer of all the fucking covid shit. Masks, closing down their on campus daycare (which fucked their employees) etc. They even recently started masking back up about two(?) months ago.
This is by contrast to my current site, where the guy who runs the place said: 'It is official to mask, but I refuse to enforce." Not a single one of the guys from Playthingota was masked. Not one- and I did not even notice it until later in the day after the tour was over. Reading, w'Riting and a'Rithmetic. I would add that economics needs to be taught in high school as well. A society that is well -- and correctly -- educated to read, to write and to understand math and economics is a society that will not be duped and controlled by tyrants. My opinion is that this country -- and Western society in general -- is headed for a downfall, because the radical leftists of the world successfully dumbed down the last 2 generations. Not just in America, but every Western nation. And now we are all reaping what they have sown. Posted by: Clyde Shelton at September 03, 2022 03:08 PM (Do5/p) 275

This is when recession turns into depression and the people demand government take more control to fix it. "I don't care what you do, just make the trains run on time again!"
In Germany, one of every six industrial companies feels forced to reduce production due to high energy prices, a survey by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, DIHK, showed at the end of July. Nearly a quarter of the companies forced to reduce production had already done so by end-July, and another one-quarter are in the process of scaling back production due to sky-high energy prices, according to the survey of 3,500 companies from all sectors and regions in Germany. The energy-intensive industries and firms are particularly hit, as 32 percent of the companies plan to or have already started to reduce production and even halt entire production lines, the DIHK survey showed. -- Posted by: Cat Ass Trophy, Pennsylvania Dad, Defiant! at September 03, 2022 03:24 PM (Wrs74) 278
It may have already been mentioned, but Pierre is advocating for the Tyranny of the Majority.
Our form of representative government is actually intended to blunt that sort of tyranny. That's why each state in the union is assigned 2, count 'em, 2 Senators. (Of course, that's something the Commies hate). The Electoral College, while not initially designed to do this, requires a U.S. President to win a majority of the states; otherwise, California and New York, get to swamp the small populace states (again, something that the Commies hate).
