I CAN'T HOLD THEM BACK MUCH LONGER

Welcome to this weekly respite from most of the outside "civilized" world -- the Ace of Spades Pet Thread.

Thanks for stopping by. Sniff out your best treats, kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Reminder: For current events and politics, the Thread before the Gardening Thread (a couple of threads below) is almost always an Open Thread.

Meet The PetMorons

maincooon.jpg

Howdy folks,
I make it a point to catch the Pet Thread weekly, and thought I would share our furpeeps with you folks.

Here for you viewing are Louie and Fenris, sisters from a litter at a farm south of us here at Chateau Loki. Affectionately referred to as Smiley and Needlenose by me.

Also, our Maine Coon mix, Timber, chillin' on the front walk. Enjoy.

-Ironkowboy

That pair o' dogs looks like they were meant to be together. And the kitty looks relaxed!

unnameed cat l.jpg

My oldest sons new kitten. She's about 3 months. Still doesn't have a name yet. I was thinking Shitty because of her circumstances. She was a stray at the city animal resource center. They let us take her home the same day on the promise to bring her back on Wednesday to get spayed. So into a box she goes for the transport/ride home. About 1 minute into the ride we hear scratching. Then my son says I think she pooped. So he looks in the box and she has had an enormous bowel incident and is now covered in the not good stinky stuff. So I pull over and I tell my son to grab her by the scruff and we wipe her down the best we can with wet wipes. I tell son he's just going to have to suck it up and hold the fecal feline home. He swears she lost a pound there was so much poop. We get home and she goes straight into a bath and is now clean and no longer stinky. She was skittish and would hide for the first day, not sure why.

lin-duh... totally NOT a cat lady!!!

Well, that is a darling kitty, considering that you are not a cat lady!

Edison Watching TV.jpeg

Hi,

Edison has appeared a few times on the Pet Thread in the past. He is a Shih-Pom rescue, 11 years old, and apparently interested in watching interviews of golf celebrities like Bryson DeChambeau, no doubt well aware of the controversies surrounding the PGA over the new LIV tour. Besides watching golf, he also appreciates neighborhood walks, peanut butter bones and sleeping on every available surface in our home and on our lanai.

Debra T.

Edison needs a scheduler with all those activities, doesn't he?

* * *

Love those PetMorons! Thank you for sharing your pets with us. We have some left for next week.

NOTE: Someone with no apparent nic sent in a photo of a couple of nice dogs with no apparent names to MisHum. Would you like to clear up your identity just a little?

If you would like to send pet and/or animal stories, links, etc. for the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, the address is:

petmorons at protonmail dot com

Remember to include the nic or name by which you wish to be known at AoSHQ, or let us know if you want to remain a lurker.

Until next Saturday, have a great week!

If you start feeling nostalgic, here a link to last week's Pet Thread, the Ace of Spades Pet Thread, July 16. Re-decorating by and for pets, a special sorta creepy kitty (not her, or his, fault) and beautiful PetMorons including a new mom with pups!

I closed the comments on this post so you wouldn't get banned for commenting on a week-old post, but don't try it anyway.

4 I want to hug every one of them...even the poopy kitten. Morons have such wonderful pets.

I'm attempting to tame a deer with corn. Well, it was *one* deer the first day. It's now day five and we are up to two does, one six-point buck and a fawn. It turns out shelled corn is very popular with deer.

Will send a pic when I can get one.

6 I need some cat advice, fellow morons. My cat, George Winston (named after famous redheads George Washington and Winston Churchill), has recently decided that he cares for fish above all else. I'm happy to switch to fish food, so long as it's dry, but the choices, and opinions of choices, on Amazon are too confusing. Will fish-flavored foods really make his poop smelly (-er)?

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

All of our cats always preferred fish based foods, especially the wet food. Far as I know their poos were not more or less stinky. Cat poop is never pleasant. Don't know any particular brands that are better. I just grab the fish based ones most of the time.

There is a pianist by the name of George Winston who records for Wyndham Hill Records. Sort of New-Age atmospheric stuff. Sort of the exact opposite of boogie-woogie, if you get my drift. Snoozy.

When I pulled up on the golf cart, here was this cute (default setting) black kitten with white markings staring at me. When I got off the cart, it scurried into the unreachable nether recesses of the truck body. Size-wise, close to the one pictured above.

Use a live trap w/ some smelly bait.

If you watch from a distance I'd bet tou'll have your kitten in short order.

Keep the kitten in the trap, feed it and it should get used to you.

24 AOP, put a little bit of wet food out. Not much just a taste. Check to see when it is gone. Put some more out at around the same time daily. Kitten will start looking for you.

We recently caught, (and adopted) two feral kittens. Being babies, they tried to hide as best they could, which made collecting them that much easier. Failing that, try a humane trap with some canned cat food as bait.

35 Afternoon, all,

Stirling the evil black kitten still wants to suckle me if I let him join me on the bed, so I have to lock him out during my nap and at night. I'm trying to extinguish that behavior by scruffing him as his mother would and then distracting him in some way, but when I'm trying to go to sleep I'm not about to get up and play with him for ten minutes (which would reward the behavior anyway). Oh, well, so it is. Maybe he'll outgrow the behavior since I am not rewarding it?

He is learning the fetch game, racing after his favorite mouse toy when I throw it and bringing it back to my hand so I can throw it again. He's the third or fourth cat I've had who went in for that. Maybe I can teach him to walk on a lead.

53 Hello again, pet people.

I really like these new people of mine. Lots of hugs and treats. Lots of food, time outside, and walks. Great shoe toys. Or chew toys. Those are supposed to be different somehow, but I'm not sure how.

Still trying to figure out how to play with this old cat that I sometimes see around the house. Today I got inches from her face before she screamed at me. I think we're making progress. I don't think I'm supposed to chase her, but she looks so chaseable! I can't help it that my coyote-like snout is shaped for neck-wringing. I'm not bad I'm just genetically drawn that way. I'm trying to do the right thing. I deserve a treat for that.

When the two feral sisters, Princess and Bootsie decided to move into our home in Italy, they did not sign up for being picked up by humans in any shape or form. Even got to the point that they would climb up on the couch and sleep near us., allowing us to pet them. But no hand action that might be considered confining, such as a hand on both sides of their bodies.

So when we transferred back to the States, we waited till the movers completely emptied the entire house. And once they shoed up to eat.....Katie bar the door, and off to the races.
Three story home, and we finally trapped each of them in the upstairs bathroom behind the toilet with the bathroom door closed after we chased them in.

78 I'll throw this out here, too. On our land , we need to thin our deer herd. Anyone care to come help the harvest, get in touch.
Archery only, but have x bows, popup blinds, etc. We can't use all we need to kill this year.

80 Where we use to live the wind woul blow all the kittens off the kitten tree and they'd end up on the back patio and stuck on the door like that.

87 After we all had long afternoon naps, I barked. I whined. I nudged. I finally convinced my people I desperately needed to go outside. They hooked up the leash by which I lead them. We walked out the door...

!!!!!!🌞!!!!!!

Everything looked about the same, but it felt horrible. My people had forgotten to turn down the heat outside. Again! I staggered a few steps. I resisted being asked to "walk. I realized I could hold it until evening. I took them back inside. Poor, dumb humans.

93 69 Meant "fill the bowl".
Posted by: FenelonSpoke
____________

That's sorta' what our cats expect... a full bowl regardless of how hungry they may be. If they can see the bottom of the shallow bowls we use they look at us like; "what, this is it?"

Posted by: Martini Farmer at July 23, 2022 05:01 PM (BFigT)

Must be a thing with housecats as ours are the same. If the food gets pushed to the sides and the center of the bowl is visible then it is considered empty. I'm not sure how that works in the wild with no bowls!

104 I need some cat advice, fellow morons.

Thanks.
Posted by: Wenda at July 23, 2022 03:33 PM (gPRZb)

Never noticed a link with my cats - although Tuna cat food itself is on the smelly end, but not different after processing.

Now a cat that has trouble digesting a kind of food (of any sort) will have very smelly poo, so if this happens you should consider a switch.

105 Stirling the evil black kitten still wants to suckle me if I let him join me on the bed, so I have to lock him out during my nap and at night.

I had a cat that would knead on me with claws too forcefully, so I had throwdown hand towels I could put to protect my skin. She would skitter away if you walked to close, but when you lay down she would come and give you the biscuits.
