The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

Much of what makes Donald Trump Donald Trump is his uncanny ablility to plainly talk about what everybody already knows. Here is a brief excerpt from his speech at Mt. Rushmore:

And yet, as we meet here tonight, there is a growing danger that threatens every blessing our ancestors fought so hard for, struggled, they bled to secure.

Our nation is witnessing a merciless campaign to wipe out our history, defame our heroes, erase our values, and indoctrinate our children.

Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities. Many of these people have no idea why they are doing this, but some know exactly what they are doing...

One of their political weapons is "Cancel Culture" -- driving people from their jobs, shaming dissenters, and demanding total submission from anyone who disagrees. This is the very definition of totalitarianism, and it is completely alien to our culture and our values, and it has absolutely no place in the United States of America. This attack on our liberty must be stopped, and it will be stopped very quickly...

In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance. If you do not speak its language, perform its rituals, recite its mantras, and follow its commandments, then you will be censored, banished, blacklisted, persecuted, and punished.

Make no mistake: this left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution. In so doing, they would destroy the very civilization that rescued billions from poverty, disease, violence, and hunger, and that lifted humanity to new heights of achievement, discovery, and progress.

To make this possible, they are determined to tear down every statue, symbol, and memory of our national heritage.

I am overjoyed when I hear him talk like this. I shout at the TV, not in anger, but in sheer exuberance. He gets it! He gets it! Finally, someone in power actually gets it!

Meanwhile, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is calling for the "dismantling" of the American political system.

“We can’t stop at criminal justice reform or police reform for that matter. We are not merely fighting to tear down the systems of oppression in the criminal justice system. We are fighting to tear down systems of oppression that exist in housing, in education, in health care, in employment, in the air we breathe.”

So much of progressive rhetoric is delivered in vague generalities. "System(s) of oppression" is one of their favorites. It means everything and yet nothing. It sounds very impressive. It's not just regular oppression, it's actually a 'system' which suggests conscious intent. And since it's a 'system', it doesn't need any evidence to support its existence, which should be obvious to anyone who looks. And if you question it, you're obviously a racist.

And now here comes the Jahr Null stuff:

We must recognize that these systems of oppression are linked. As long as our economy and political systems prioritizes profit without considering who is profiting, who is being shut out, we will perpetuate this inequity. So we cannot stop at criminal justice system. We must begin the work of dismantling the whole system of oppression wherever we find it.”

President Trump's vision of America is one of building up, while Rep. Omar's is one that focuses on tearing down and 'dismantling systems'. Which sounds pretty extensive. Like perhaps if she was allowed to dismantle what she thought needed dismantling, there wouldn't be much left. But when you point this out, her defenders get all butthurt and beat a hasty retreat back into the safely fortified motte while accusing you of 'twisting her words'. And this raises the question of what, exactly, is their problem with Omar being called a rat bastard commie. Is it that the accusation is unjust, or do they just not want it to be stated publicly? Because if she's not a rat bastard commie, maybe she shouldn't talk like one.

Americans need to choose: either Trump's vision or Omar's. Much as I hate to say, this, but at this point, I'm not sure which way the vote would go.

AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com.

Prayer Requests:

6/3 - Clyde asks for prayers for his younger brother, who is a Chicago police officer on the south side of Chicago. Please pray for him, as well as all police officers, during this time of chaos to help them help keep the people of their cities safe as well as remain safe themselves.

6/4 - PH requests for prayers for his mother and father. His mother went into a nursing home just before the Covid lockdown started, and the isolation she has endured has taken a terrible toll. They saw her last weekend through a “window visit” and she is just a shell of what she was. Now his dad is facing learning what a new normal for him will be without her.

6/24 - Elipse ( … ) asks for prayers for his wife (and the rest of the family) after her 35 year old son committed suicide.

6/30 - Annie’s Stew requests prayers for our country - that God’s will would be done, and that evil would be overcome.

For Healing:

6/4 - PC requests prayers for a friend named Joanie who just had surgery for a serious rare ailment.

6/24 - Asheville Robert needs prayers for healing; he has been diagnosed with a tumor in his colon.

6/24 - NaughtyPine requests prayers for her sister-in-law, who had a stroke.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com.

If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her.

Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after five weeks or so unless we receive an update.

Please remember the Prayer of St. Francis:

Keep calm and pray on!

This is a good sign. When the "slumbering giant" of the compliant right gets pissed off enough to outnumber the young, dumb and unemployed left, it bodes poorly for the socialists.

It's not a "system of oppression" just because housing, education, health care and jobs are not offered to everybody, for "free," with no effort required.

The left believes that health care and money and all the rest of it just magically appear (sort of how they think electricity magically comes out of the hole in the wall), and therefore everybody is entitled to a piece of it. But that's not how it works. That's not how any of it works.

A quirky little movie that she's in, that I enjoy quite a bit, is "Drowning Mona" with Danny DeVito and Bette Midler. Don't be put off by Midler being in it; she is murdered in the first couple of minutes of the film, and the rest of the story examines why everyone who lived in that town hated her so much that they were all glad she was dead. 163 A quirky little movie that she's in, that I enjoy
quite a bit, is "Drowning Mona" with Danny DeVito and Bette Midler.
Don't be put off by Midler being in it; she is murdered in the first
couple of minutes of the film, and the rest of the story examines why
everyone who lived in that town hated her so much that they were all
glad she was dead. Jamie Lee Curtis is a flaky sex starved waitress at
a diner. I think it's well worth the watch if you've never seen it.

178 I disagree that the media is "garbage." Garbage was, before it transformation into refuse, useful. It was food, or clothing, or the various bric-a-brac that fills our lives and makes it better. Garbage wasn't always entropic remains, it was once vibrant and useful and brought joy, comfort, convenience, security or some other positive to someone's life. Garbage *was* something greater than itself.

The media is not that. The media is more like an ancient lava flow, destroying everything in its path, leaving a wake of destruction, and benefiting no one. But even this is unfair, because the lava flow makes then environment, after a fashion.

There is no physical embodiment of destructive malevolence that I can think of to which I could reasonably compare the media. It stands alone. It is an utter, complete, unalloyed black hole that sucks in virtue, morality and any form of rightness and leaves gleeful, deliberate wreckage behind it as it seeks out its biological imperative: the spread of hate, evil, torment, slavery, perfidy and destruction.

205 CNN could be wrecked overnight if a startup, hard news only, competitor entered the market. But it would have to have one rule to keep it neutral. 1). No long-term on air personalities. After 18 months replace the anchor/host with a new recruit out of local news. (Once a host builds popularity it seems they become powerful enough that management can't control them and the host gets freer to inject their own political viewpoints into the news.) That network wouldn't get huge ratings, but enough of people just looking for quick news would turn away from the other Cable News Channels, especially CNN, to get news.

251 The power of cliches is only exceeded by the power of repeated cliches.
So many of late asking "do you think there'll be a second wave....?"

I have to ask them: "What do you mean by a 'second wave'?"

What I want to say is "WTF is that even supposed to mean". What can one even mean by the 'first wave'? How big was it? Are you measuring by cases, hospitalizations, deaths, economic dislocation? Are you asking if there's going to be something as big as, or the same as, or half as big as, or 20% as big as, something you can't even define?

Scale and definition aside, does this even refer to all parts of the country at the same time, as clearly places with higher concentrations of people will be first to develop community spread, deaths, and then some degree of herd immunity.

"Second wave" (like "spike") is a completely meaningless phrase, yet is supposed to hang over us like the sword of Damocles lest we fail to obey Fauci's sharia law in perpetuity.

Vindmann is an idiot. He could easily have been court-martialed as a major for "contemptuous words and phrases" and "conduct unbecoming an officer," but I suspect his boss wrote him an efficiency report that ended any hope for Colonel and frankly, I'm surprised he made it to Lt Colonel.
Then during the impeachment, he jumps the chain of command and shoots his mouth off about something he doesn't know for fact. Like so many others that got played by the Dems during the impeachment farce, they blew smoke up his ass until he was no longer useful and dumped him.
Enjoy civilian life shithead.

Dylan at least has some interesting songs. Every damned Springsteen song is a variant of "I was a BMOC in high school, but I knocker up my best girl and now I'm workin' at the factory all day and my life is over and it's all Reagan / Bush / Trump's fault."

Posted by: OregonMuse at 11:13 AM

I keep going back to two things with regards to our current state of affairs in our society:

--- knowledge of history
--- feeding the wolf

By knowledge of history, I really mean a lack of knowledge of history. And not just general ideas, but specifics:

--- inventions throughout the past 100 years that we now all take for granted
--- improvements in technology over the past 100 years
--- improvements in society over the past 100 years

Think about things like the railroad, airline industry, owning your own vehicle, the interstate highway system, the internet, central A/C and heat in homes, telephones, cell phones, dish washers in every home, microwaves.

These were all developed over the past 100 years and things we not only take for granted, but actually complain about! My flight got cancelled, my internet is slow, my cell phone lost signal, waaaaah!

Yet, think about how amazing those inventions are compared to what we had in 1920.

It's simply overwhelming to think of all the amazing things built and created over the past 100 years.

How anyone can think about those things and then conclude that "America sucks"... just flabbergasting.

But that's it, isn't it? People don't think about those things.

Which goes to the "Feed the Wolf" parable.

Two wolves fighting in your stomach. Which one will win? The one you feed.

The Left does nothing but feed the wolf that only looks at everything as bad. They never feed the wolf that sees the good.

But it's not just the left. We all need to do a better job of reminding people just how amazing this country is and the amazing inventions and concepts and progress we have made in such a relatively small period of time.

Think about how just 30 years ago, we didn't have the internet or laptops or cell phones.

Heard an interesting explanation of why SJWers are crazy: in Intersectionality, where there is a hierarchy based on one's victimhood/oppression, they factor in mental health issues. This means you get more points/rise in the hierarchy the more mental issues you have -- thus, you are encouraged to NOT address your issues. You get well, you lose Intersectional hierarchy points.

The Democrats and media are playing chicken with American's lives.
They want Trump to send in troops so they can howl about how he turned the military on American citizens and they want somebody to violently react to their Marxist mob violence so they can screech even louder about racism.

An 8 year old girl and 11 year old boy are dead as a result of them playing chicken.
And those are just two of pawns that the Democrats sacrificed, there are the rest of the dead plus all of those assaulted and whose businesses were burned out and looted.

It's a game of chicken by the Democrats and the media.
They are hoping for a reaction that they can weaponize.
Their next move is to raise the stakes even higher.

402 MEATLOAF ... I stopped forming ground beef and turkey into loaf shapes when several aspects (for me) became a PITA. Grease would always collect at the bottom of the pan, causing the *loaf* to break apart when removing. Ditto when trying to slice the loaf for serving.

Things improved a little when I started baking it for half the time -- until I could trust the loaf would hold its shape -- then inverted it onto a platter (temporarily) to separate the meat from the grease. After this step, I placed the loaf onto a wired rack nestled inside a rimmed baking sheet (to collect any residual grease), then put it back into the oven to finish cooking. And while the soggy-bottom problem disappeared, making this so-called simple/easy entree hadn't become any simpler or easier.

So I abandoned the *loaf* shape altogether for muffin shapes -- large Texas-muffin sized. Grease does collect at the bottoms of these pans, but it is not enough to cause the muffins to break apart. And I'm such a fan now that I purposely make enough to vac-seal several dinner- or lunch-size portions which just need a quick reheat in the toaster oven.
