The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg"So if the reason that all of those CNN stories that have blown up in their smug faces were due to innocent, could-have-happened-to-anyone reporting errors, you'd think that some number of them would be in Trump's favor. If these errors were truly random, I mean. Then you'd expect up to half of the errors would work to Trump's advantage. But the actual number is, get this, zero. Isn't that odd? And if reporters were such fearlessly unbiased champions of the truth that they like to portray themselves as, you'd think at least one of them would be questioning this weird statistical anomaly. But, not to worry. I'm sure they'll get around to asking these questions any day now."

character.jpg

To this, I would add:

--Character is what you do when no one else is watching.

And Speaking of Character:

kennedy conyers 72.jpg

At first I thought this was a remarkably good PhotoShop, but apparently, it's real, but the proposed campaign never got off the ground. I think you all will appreciate the aggressively neutral description of why a Ted Kennedy candidacy was a non-starter:

Ted Kennedy was a front-runner for the 1972 election, but in 1969 he got into a car accident, which killed a campaign worker, and fled the scene without contacting the police.

( *facepalm* )

"He got into a car accident." No, you imbecile, he drunk-drove off Chappaquiddick Bridge into the creek. The campaign worker, whose name you couldn't be bothered to mention, was Mary Jo Kopechne, and she wasn't killed by the accident itself, but by Brave Sir Teddy running away and leaving her to die in the submerged car. This description misses being an outright lie by only a small fraction. It's disgusting that even now, decades later, people are willing to cover for those Kennedy vermin.

And what kind of a man would leave a woman in a submerged car and not tell anyone for 8 hours? Did he want to make sure she was dead?

Nope, that's incorrect. It's true that random reporting errors would tend to be favorable towards a President half the time, and unfavorable the other half.

But all of the favorable errors were used up during the Obama administration, so now the press is left with no choice other than fulfilling the unfavorable quota against Trump.

Stop trying to demonize our glorious free press.

they are pushing the misogyny narrative now, conflating old accusations of (maybe) unwanted kisses with "we knew not to get on the elevator with him" cover ups.

But the real point of all the salacious sex talk is to cover up Democrat treason in high places, like Hillary taking $150M from Russia for our uranium, and dealing with such treason on secret servers ... AND having a compliant FBI aggressively covering her tracks, and creating a Trump/Russia smoke screen.

If a parent asked for a picture he would kneel down and put has arm around the kid. Struck me as a really nice guy and I always think about that when his name comes up. 64 "This man was seriously considered a presidential candidate several times. That's how ridiculous our political system is."

I still remember the interview that sank him when he was trying to primary Jimmy Carter. A very sympathetic reporter had him in a puff piece interview, set him up with a very easy question that he thought would help Teddy, "So why do you think you should be President? What would you do?"

And Teddy just hemmed and hawed and stammered and let his mouth hang open, until the reporter went on to another question - it was clear that Teddy had never woken up from his lifelong drunken stupor long enough to even consider the question.

68 There is a special place in hell for CNNs Lyin' Chyron.
Basically they can (and often do) take any story and juxtapose it with some vague, anti-Trump text and whip up some nice, subliminal agitprop.

Story about "childhood poverty"? Gin up the Chyron to blurb about "Trump Tax plan to benefit the top 1%..."etc

Islamic terrorist attack? Chyron will doubtless be describing "Muslim Americans fear that Trump's Muslim ban is a radicalizing force.." or "Trump cuts funding for outreach to deradicalize Muslims" etc etc etc.

Ted Kennedy did run, or at least he tried to. In 1980, he launched an attempt to wrest the Dim nomination from Jimmy Carter.

Yes, I recall that quote exactly. Can't remember who said it but they were pretty big deal at the time.

It was one of the most absurd things I'd ever heard. If only all those Jews were alive today, they'd thank Hitler for saving the German economy!

Sometimes I think Ted Kennedy was just a regular schlub who was kind of forced onto the national stage and knew nothing of what to do or how to act, he just wanted to go watch football and drink beer.

96 "And what kind of a man would leave a woman in a submerged car and not tell anyone for 8 hours? Did he want to make sure she was dead?"

Slight correction which makes it worse. Teddy actually did go back to the party to quietly get his two buddies to come back and check out the scene. Mary Jo's friends were still at the party but Teddy said nothing to them. The two buddies went back with Teddy to look at the scene. Teddy told them he was going to get help but never did. He went back to his hotel to sleep it off. Also, the two buddies were lawyers and Teddy claimed attorney-client privilege and forbid them to cooperate with police.

There was a scene from a movie called 'Repossessed', with Leslie Nielsen and Linda Blair that was a spoof of 'The Exorcist'. A dad and his kids were playing with a ouija board, and the dad asked if Ted Kennedy would ever be President. The planchette flew off the board bounced off walls and hit a model car which rolled off a shelf and into a fish tank.

I have a good friend, while I was just starting the process, who went in for a routine Pap smear and found out she had a tumor the size of a grapefruit in her uterus -- and they can treat it, but there's a 90% chance she won't be able to have children. She was apologizing to me because she felt guilty being upset since she's single and wasn't planning on kids for a few more years, and she felt bad comparing her situation to mine. I told her to shut up, that's like trying to argue that a broken arm somehow hurts less than a broken leg. It's okay to acknowledge your own crap; it doesn't somehow minimize someone else's.

We're all here, and I'll be praying for you, and everyone.

BTW, pimping my own problem that isn't really a problem -- my first ultrasound is next week at 7.5 weeks. I'm really worried. I have been pregnant once before, and everything was fine at 7 weeks, and I went back at 11.5 weeks and found out that my little daughter had died the week before (missed miscarriage). I am trying to stay at peace, but I would really appreciate prayers for my two little embryos that got transferred for the next few weeks. It's probably a lack of faith, but I'm scared.

173 If Nixon happened today I think most Republican voters would rally around him and demand he stay.

The reason is simple. The average Republican voter no longer is willing to let Democrats get away with anything they want, while Republicans must play by stringent rules. Even worse those stringent rules are set by leftists and enforced by gate keeping so called "conservatives".

I hope Roy Moore is elected and by a large margin. Not because of who he is, but because the message it will send to the gatekeepers and to the leftists.

We are willing to go there to protect ourselves and our nation.

The resistance is trying to reanimate that story about Trump being an octopus on an airplane. I know that many details were picked apart, such as the airplane she claimed this happened on did not have armrests that could be raised as she claimed in her story.

But another thing - her story sounded very much like she just plagiarized an actual event involving a British television executive, even down to the "octopus" descriptor.

Now I can't find the British TV exec story and I know I read it during the campaign.

Turns out she was from B'ham and my GMa lived there too, so I know it well.

She also had that endearing Southern lilt to her voice, so sweet. She could stick the knife in and twist it repeatedly and you'd never feel a thing until much later. Instead of calling you a "dumb SOB," she'd say, "Well bless your heart." With a smile. And mean it. Sorta.

Being a math guy, and knowing her body the way I do I knew that was impossible and it was borderline malpractice to wait that long for an MRI.

She got a new gynecologist within the week. No mass. No problem.

241 I'm sure some has beaten me to the punch about this already, but just in case...

Teddy "The Swimmer" Kennedy tried again for the POTUS job in 1980, looking to unseat the peanut farmer. But he was again shot down in flames when he agreed to an interview with then CBS reporter Roger Mudd, who basically rammed Chappaquiddick down his throat in that interview, killing forever his White House hopes.

To be sure, Teddy had his vengeance against Mudd, as his reporter career pretty much came to an end not long thereafter, at CBS and everywhere else. Only time I ever saw Mudd on the air after that was several years later, doing promos for the then-brand new "History Channel", when it first started on cable.

I just saw a fox poll claiming jones leads moore 50-40.

So once again, someone is lying, and lying big time.

For my part I notice that the fox poll had 39% disapproval for Moore, which I might believe, so put me down for:
60% Moore
39% Jones
1% People who will vote for Shelby in his next primary

Posted by: Methos at December 11, 2017 08:34 PM (XQvuQ)
I actually don't think a 20 point blowout by Moore is such a stretch since, according to the article over at zerohedge, Trump won the state 62-34 last year, and nothing's happened to make voters more pleased with DC.

So that's make take, on the assumption that the fake allegations never got any real traction, nor did the polls designed to convince everyone that everyone else had fallen for those fake allegations.

290 I am not really religious, and I don't have faith. But I think that reading through that list, and thinking about each person does have an effect.

Maybe it is the most indirect and complex effect. Maybe thinking about a person (or praying) makes you mention it to someone later in the day, and maybe that person is kind to another person and after 100 interactions it gets back to the person you were thinking about. And maybe that is the best we can do, and it isn't direct, and it isn't much, but it is something.

So I go through the list, and I try to think of the person, and also think of how I can be a better person to strangers as well as people I know, or people I only know inside these gray boxes. That is what I do whenever I see a prayer request on the HQ, because I think the HQ people are unique. Kind of a motley crew of misfits and malcontents. We no longer fit into this new SJW world, and we care too much to go gently.

And a lot of credit has to go to Ace. I have seen so many promising people in media over the years. Some got old and died, some just disappeared. Some said something really stupid and got fired. But mostly they just stray into an area where I disagree. Maybe it is careerism, or maybe they were impostors, but I can think of no other opinionist who I have followed for any length of time and whom I still respect besides Ace.

I can't remember when I first started reading the HQ, but it was long ago and I always figured he was good for a couple years and then would peter out. Well, Ace has kept this thing going, and kept to his principals and to reason and honesty and fairness, all that time. He built this community, but the morons have as well. All of you.

I wish for nothing but the best for you all.

(sorry, this started as an encouragement for other non believers who come across the prayer list, but started going another way. I will leave it fwiw)

I used to occasionally go on a business trip to Germany. Problem with such business trips is that you arrive after a full day of travel, but you don't dare go to sleep because then you'll be up all night and exhausted for your business meetings the next day.

So I turned on the TV. And there was Nena performing some song that I've never managed to find. Her backup singers were men dancing around in earthworm costumes and the line from the chorus that stuck in my mind was "In die Erde".

I have tried several times over the years to find the thing, but have not succeeded.

300 Karma is a sweet lie people tell themselves thinking that there will be justice in this world. There rarely is.

But that longing for justice is evidence of a greater, higher judge. Its a natural part of us, to seek justice and reject injustice. We all know, its why the child cries "that's not fair!!!!"

303 I made this Brussels sprout salad for T-day. It's a bit of a pain cutting out the core but...OMG...it is really good. The dressing is yummy...I could of drank it. I also doubled the dressing.

Ingredients

2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 teaspoons Dijon mustard
4 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 cup sweetened dried cranberries
1 cup cinnamon-roasted almonds

Directions

Cut cores out of Brussels sprouts using a paring knife. Peel layers apart to separate individual leaves; place leaves in a large bowl.

Whisk maple syrup, olive oil, Dijon mustard, and apple cider vinegar together in a small bowl. Drizzle over Brussels sprout leaves; add cranberries and toss to coat. Add almonds and toss again before serving.

304 Good luck to you, sunny dee!

I said a prayer for the receptionist at my dentist's office this morning. She was diagnosed with cancer a year ago and is undergoing chemo once a week. I asked her how it was going before I left and she said the spots on her liver have grown considerably. I said I'd pray for her.

I've been going to the same dentist for 20 years and she's been his receptionist for 30 years. It's not like I know her well or anything - but when we wished each other "Merry Christmas" our eyes locked because we both know that's probably the last time I'll see her behind that desk.

Sometimes the loss of the incidental people in your life - a receptionist, a baker, a mailman, a mechanic- people who are not friends but have been a part of the fabric of your life for a long time - really hits you hard. It did this morning.

***

I have always loved Brussels Sprouts - but understand that most people don't. Then I found a recipe that everyone I know, even those (like Mrs. Redux) who are not fond.

1 Package Brussels sprouts
3 Strips of bacon cut into squares
1/4 of large white onion diced
2 Tbsns of roughly chopped pecans ( or 1 and 1/2 Tbspn o
1 Tbspn of olive oil
1 tspn freesh parsley
1/4 tspn fennel seeds
splash of lemon
'salt and pepper to taste

Take one package of fresh brussels sprouts (its usually about 4 cups of sprouts when whole, clean, and prep and let cook for two minutes in a pressure cooker when it comes to a boil. immediately rinse off to cool and cut in half.

In a cast iron skillet put in the olive oil and bacon over medium heat - get the bacon fairly browned but NOT super crisp. remove bacon. heat up teh pan over high heat until smoking. add the onions first - then a few seconds later the Brussels sprouts - torn constantly to get everything with a nice edge of blackened/browned around the edges ( but down 't burn all over).

Lower heat to medium, add the pecans, splash of lemon and bacon. Turn a few times and salt and pepper to taste. Serve still sizzling. Never fails to make convert out of even the most die hard Brussels sprouts haters - I mean, c'mon , everything is better with bacon!

Russia is a gas station that needs to increase their product and distribution to keep the regime in power. Any disruption in the flow of their oil and gas will hurt their customers, it will hurt Russia even more.
