Justice Scalia called the Court "a threat to American democracy" and its marriage decree "a judicial Putsch".
Roy Moore was one of the few who stood up to that threat and defied the Putsch, at the cost of his job. That's the real reason for this Smear Campaign. He fought for your Civil Rights, the right for the states and the people to govern themselves. You see, Civil Rights aren't just party favors the Left gets to hand out to their pet identity groups. We all possess them, much to their chagrin. Don't accept the Left's definition of Civil Rights. Roy Moore is a Civil Rights hero. As are the Marines. >>If Gowdy doesn't pull out a pistol and execute an Obama functionary on the floor of Congress then he is a squish and should be primaried. I view it more as ignorance of what is actually happening. For some bizarre reason, some people like to pretend that nothing is happening or has happened so they can whine about inaction despite the evidence that things are happening almost on a daily basis. So far, we have a new head of the FBI, a new deputy head, both McCabe and the FBI General Counsel are under investigation on multiple issues and have been effectively been put on the sidelines, Strozk is out, his girlfriend is out, the 4th in command at the DOJ is out and suspected of conspiring on the Russia dossier and this is only a partial list and the report isn't even out yet. The intertubes have been buzzing since Friday that the person who leaked the bogus information to CNN and MSNBC is on the House Intel Committee and most fingers are pointing toward Schiff or his staff and some are suggesting that this information was purposefully given to suspected leakers so they could prove who was leaking. In any case the real story about CNN and MSNBC running with bad information, the story is who gave them the information knowing it was bad or at least not doing basic confirmation that it was accurate. Bitcoin's original premise was to be an alternative currency. It's now so volatile in price it can no longer act as an effective currency.
Volatility doesn't determine what can, or cannot, be a currency. Currencies have historically been some of the most volatile assets around. It would still be up a ton from what it was last year and up a shitload from what it was 2 years ago. Yes, bitcoin might disappear ... but you certainly haven't made any argument as to why it would. It is exceedingly volatile because it is entirely new. It probably won't serve as a currency because it can't handle the transaction traffic that a real currency would require, but it certainly can act as a wealth reserve. It very well might. It might not, but it very well might. And before you say anything, wealth reserves can also be subject to periods of extreme volatility and price movement, especially when they are just starting to be adopted. Let's talk about the real reason so many men became Democrats between the 60's and the 90's: It's where the loose women with no "prudery" were to be found. These guys became "champions of women's causes" because they were there for the free pussy (much like men who support abortion because they want the baby even less than she does). In fact, those who rose through the ranks began to regard "free pussy" as an understood perk of the job. Now these trim-hounds are being held to the same standards that Republicans are held, and what they don't want to say publicly (but are SCREAMING privately) is, "That was NEVER part of the deal. I keep abortion legal, I GET MY SHAFT SERVICED!"
What none of them saw coming was the New Puritanism. The old, right-wing puritanism said "backwards" things like "A married man doesn't have a dinner alone with another woman" and "A lady doesn't take a meeting in a man's hotel room". The New Puritanism is a creation of third-wave feminists, and goes something like "If you so much as look at me and I think you're ugly I'll have you fired, shamed on social media, and possibly arrested for harrasment". If they didn't like the old rules, they're going to HATE the news ones. Especially now that they're being hunted by their own tribe. Posted by: Rusty Nail at December 10, 2017 01:14 PM (toi7g) 129

Bitcoin want to be Money, the way that gold has been money for thousands of years.
It's a quite clever invention, but the recent explosive run-up in price will be its downfall. Money shouldn't be (and can't be) this volatile in normal times. That's because parties won't rely on it to settle trades, even with short settlement periods. Take that away and Bitcoin serves no rational purpose. Zimbabwean dollars aren't Money either, except to the limited extent of Zimbabwean government mandate, which only adds to its hyperinflation. Actually Jay, I'm just talking from the god's-eye-view as an observer. I don't see much chance that this whole situation, including Moore winning and serving (he will), having any potential for the Dems.
There may be some success in helping the Dems' disastrously limp fund-raising, but electorally, bupkis. Even without anything resembling a press, the daily flow includes mostly Dem and Dem-associated figures being outed in scandal, and the info has not been contained, people know about it. The shush fund promises more of the same. Franken stays. And like I said, if the GOP actually f***ing delivers on some key policy promise many people care about, all this is less than nothing. The electorate is very asymmetrical right now, in that a key slice of GOP voters (whatever their registration or tribal identity) are that way for policy reasons. Hence Trump as president. Trump/GOP deliver on key policies, they're untouchable. If they don't, they're subject to the vagaries of crap like "scandal" etc. Posted by: rhomboid at December 10, 2017 01:17 PM (QDnY+) 137

Admittedly, I don't go finding details on this stuff, so it's partially my fault I don't know, but this all strikes me as some vague notion out there... as if this is a horror movie, and we can't let the audience see what the REAL monster looks like, because it will ruin the illusion. This is one thing we know: It has been true, and in some parts of the country is STILL true, that it is not culturally inappropriate for adult men to be interested in teenage girls. As potential wives. If you are banging them, that's different, but in some places, you can be 30 and want to "date" 17/18 year olds. Take them out of sodas and to dances. That still exists. And it certainly did in Moore's day, when he was that age. So some of these girls are.. to put it kindly, simply mis-remembering their own pasts, which happens a lot too. Or they're conflating later events in their lives, and looking back on their own misbehavior, and trying to apply to THIS guy, because he's famous, a standard they now disapprove of, whether he did anything "wrong" or not. Do I think 14 is too young? Hell yes! Do I think 16 is too young? Yeah, I do, but it's not so egregious if in YOUR state, you can legally marry a 16 year old girl. I haven't found one great source, I usually just skip around the internet looking for clues and documents but Conservative Treehouse has some good posts from time to time that are pretty comprehensive when they dig into individual topics. It just seems to me that far too often people are willing to overlook things that happen on a daily basis as if they have no meaning. Or sometime dogs that don't bark. Everyone remembers at the beginning of the Trump administration that leaks were crippling his ability to do his job. Every single day there was another leak of classified information, and then it stopped. Martians? Sun Spots? Or maybe, just maybe, things were happening behind the scenes that were affecting these criminal acts. And then things like this happen and almost nobody pays attention: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da-TtLgXU40&t=311s There are currently more leak investigations than there were in the last 3 years combined. It's likely that a number of the same people who are involved with the Russia crap and possibly the Hillary email investigation are also involved. The General Counsel of the FBI is being investigated in one of those cases, quite possibly Comey as well. Ask yourself, does Trump seem like the kind of guy who would allow his own administration to be targeted for destruction by forces in the government without fighting back? I don't think so. Do I think 14 is too young? Hell yes! Do I think 16 is too young? Yeah, I do, but it's not so egregious if in YOUR state, you can legally marry a 16 year old girl.
Posted by: BurtTC at December 10, 2017 01:18 PM (Pz4pT) how do you disprove something that happened 40 years ago? Where does Moore go to get his reputation back? What 14 year old girl wants to date a 30 year old. That's weird. Posted by: CaliGirl at December 10, 2017 01:22 PM (Ri/rl) Dating is a funny thing. It carries strong connotations, and we all think we know what it means, when it is very possible we don't. So if I grew up where dating was a boy and a girl, roughly the same age, going out alone, and possibly resulting in sex/steady relationship, that seems normal to me. When I hear a 30 year old man goes on "dates" with 16 year olds, if that's what I am picturing, then yeah, that's creepy and wrong. But it is more likely that in Moore's time, at that place, he could be taking on "dates" girls in their mid to late teens, and their parents would have approved, his colleagues would have approved, his own family would approve, because he was NOT having sex with them. He was being cordial and kind and gentlemanly. That's how it was. Creepy? Sure, if like me you didn't grow up with that sort of thing being the norm, but I'm virtually certain what Moore did in his pre-married days was essentially what every other "decent" young man was doing in those parts. It seems to me that the "left is pure but the right is a group of uneducated, cousin-humping misogynists" has already been played by the left, to disasterous effect. Recent revelations show that the left used its self-assigned "purity" to cover its rape and assault on women. ======== I think Matthews is concerned that the left is adopting the wrong type of purity - holding their individual members accountable for obeying their stated principles. He wants them to go back to their old purity - allowing/defending anyone into their ranks, as long as they're fighting to destroy conservative principles. The Dem planned strategy of ginning up sexual harassment using Moore as a centerpiece is not going to amount to a hill of beans in the fall if the economy is roaring with +4% growth. It's a quite clever invention,
I would go so far as to call it "brilliant" - and I don't throw that word around casually. The first time I read about the system I was really impressed. but the recent explosive run-up in price will be its downfall. Money shouldn't be (and can't be) this volatile in normal times. But, that's my point. These aren't "normal times" for cryptocurrency. This is the bare beginning of the idea being implemented. It is something so new that it will take a good while to normalize. That's because parties won't rely on it to settle trades, even with short settlement periods. We have yet to see what it settles out to. ANd, as I mentioned before even traditional money has wild price moves (and swings). Even gold, which I think we both agree is the truest "money" there is, has experienced massive price moves in the last 50 years. Zimbabwean dollars aren't Money either, except to the limited extent of Zimbabwean government mandate, which only adds to its hyperinflation. Posted by: Ignoramus at December 10, 2017 01:17 PM (pV/54) Zimbabwean currency isn't good money, but it is still money - as you said, due to government dictat (which is how a lot of money gets its "value", as the governments force people to use it). I don't think there is any question that there will be cryptocurrencies that function as money to most people. Now, which ones they are eventually ... who knows, but once you get a decent amount of value assessed in one then it becomes self-fulfilling, as people holding it have a great interest in seeing it retain its use as "wealth". One of the strongest advantages gold has are the large existing stores of it that so many people (and institutions) have. Of course, gold has many more advantages over other things that people might want to use as money but that is a big one. Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at December 10, 2017 01:45 PM (8gDQu) 207

We have an interesting couple working for us. The guy was convicted of stautory rape, of a 12 year old when he was 17. His girlfriend is 20. She was the 12 year old. He snuck into the house and was having sex with her when her dad caught him. She convinced dad not to shoot him. (She comes from a family of gang bangers. One brother in jail has millions from a wrongful conviction settlement. He couldn't stop being a gang banger and now has life in prison). She seems to be a decent person now, probably because her dad took her out of Chicago for Oregon.

In modern times mid-terms most often swing against the party in the WH due primarily to higher turn-out by the opposition party. Once in a while, events/conditions combine to boost party-in-power turnout (last time was 2002, when in their brief moment of seriousness the American people punished the Dems for their already-disgraceful post-9/11 performance). Once in a great while, the opposition makes spectacular gains due to the wild unpopularity of WH/incumbent policies (2010, biggest example in history).
GOP delivers on some key policy promises, and the economy/markets continue on present trajectory, these mid-terms are a bust for the Dems - or worse. Posted by: rhomboid at December 10, 2017 01:54 PM (QDnY+) 250

There are currently more leak investigations than there were in the last 3 years combined.
Posted by: JackStraw at December 10, 2017 01:23 PM (/tuJf) ======== One of the things Trump ran on was draining the swamp, and he's not shy about listing his accomplishments. As these investigations are completed, especially heading for the 2018 election season, it's vital that he makes a big deal about this. As in, we found x creatures in y federal agency who were leaking or subverting explicit directives, thereby going against America's interests, and they have been flushed down the drain. Nunes and the HPSCI should have some very red meat for the hungry, informed masses, it seems. He's hinting at FISA abuses, and (finally) making rather dramatic noises about FBI "corruption".
There's really no doubt that the various inter-connected Mega-Scandals here dwarf Watergate, and especially all the abuses (or just dubious behavior conducted within the large gray areas of the time) that led to the Church commission and the intel oversight process itself. But it's a different country that these vastly worse scandals play out in. Notably, it is difficult to imagine *any* elected Democrat caring, or approaching this honorably and seriously, today. They are completely collapsed, empty partisan shells with zero sense of responsibility or respect for the rule of law or the country's institutions and values. With this description fitting half or more of the GOP as well, the country is left in a precarious position. Posted by: rhomboid at December 10, 2017 02:51 PM (QDnY+) 428

437 I think this must be how marxists continue to rationalize being marxists, despite its repeated failure. They don't just think "it hasn't been tried properly yet". They think "it cannot be tried properly until there are no capitalist countries left". So they are not bothered by "why does socialism suck?" They are tasked with undermining the few vestiges of freedom that are left here.
Posted by: Steve and Cold Bear at December 10, 2017 02:43 PM (/qEW2) I think this is one of their attempted bandaids. It cannot exist until all capitalist societies have become socialist. However, I think it would just devolve into: It cannot exist until there are no churches. It cannot exist until there are no guns. It is the left's "Next year in Jerusalem."- except less realistic. I posted this on a dead thread, like a dummy, of course;
WaPo published a piece, purportedly by a Longtime Conservative Author Whose Name Doesn't Appear In The Publications He Worked For (Ahem). The piece claimed that the author believed that Clarence Thomas should resign because of the accusations by Anita Hill, which amounted to inappropriate comments, and were not enough at the time to derail his nomination. The author's purported name is Jay Kaganoff. Which is, of course, an anagram (nearly a spoonerism) for "Gay Jakanoff." I'm not certain whether WaPo is stupid, or just thinks we're stupid, or whether I should embrace the power of "and." Also not sure if the author is from DKos or 4Chan. Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 10, 2017 03:07 PM (ycWCI) We live in the Age of Maximally-Hostile Interpretation. Trump says women let rich, famous men walk all over them, and he "confessed to sexual assault" (or even rape). Moore is accused of an assault on a 14-year-old and he's a "pedophile." Heck, Obama says his voters should think of their "undocumented" cousins when they vote and half the right or more totally believes he *said* illegals should vote. I'll admit the left has the lead *at least* 2:1 in this area, but they've been dragging everyone else to crazy land with them. Colleges have been teaching emotional fragility as a core subject for decades, so we shouldn't be surprised. I still can't figure out how "binders full of women" was a criticism. basically the left's standards on sexual assault is that if you aren't left wing, talking to a woman is sexual assault. If you are left-wing, being a hustler is still within the range of things you can classify yourself as a male-feminist. If you're a left-wing politician, you can do anything, so long as you don't get caught. If you're a left-wing star, you can pretty much do anything even if you do get caught, so long as it isn't during those rare occasions where there is a brief flare-up of social mores.

Linearity is not universal, retards. "We need faster progress. Put more chemists on it!" Chemists carpenters. When progress is idea-limited, putting more people on the project just slows it down because of all the meetings and other bureaucratic overhead. Just STFU, GTFO of the way, and we'll make more progress. Posted by: Deplorable Jay Guevara at December 10, 2017 04:00 PM (JrURQ) 683

Another one that has receded a bit but you heard a lot about was ISO 9000 compliance. I sat in many a meeting, at at least three different companies where "Standard HR drone" was going on and on about how we NEEDED ISO 9000 certification. It would make us so much better, but they had no idea why.

Posted by: rickl at December 10, 2017 04:05 PM (sdi6R) It is not necessarily a bad thing. It 'can' be helpful. However, in the end it is just an audit saying that you are following the paperwork processes YOU set. It does not determine whether it is a good process or a bad one- just that you have a process, and that you are following it. Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 10, 2017 04:07 PM (ycWCI) 697
That's math. You can't argue with math.
Posted by: rickl at December 10, 2017 04:00 PM (sdi6R) Now you've done it. My favorite story concerned a meeting on choosing which new pharma product to develop. All of the "stakeholders" were represented, including R&D and various lower primates from the business side. There were a variety of criteria for assessment, such as cost to manufacture, toxicity profile, market size, attractiveness of packaging, etc. The assembled brain trust then assigned numbers between 1 and 10 for each category, and (as God is my witness, this is true) added them up, decided on project was better than the other by a score of 42 to 41. So this shit will kill granny before she hits the floor, but it's got great packaging, so there's that. I was throwing a rope over a rafter about then. After the meeting, the business guys were all congratulating themselves on having made their decision on "an objective basis." Yeah. Nothing quite like adding up totally arbitrarily assigned ordinal numbers for objectivity.
