On This Thanksgiving, I'm Grateful For the Gullible Goons of Salon

[H]e wasn't alone on his righteous indignation. Conservative blogger Ace of Spades wrote an entire treatise on how to deal with the miscreant liberals in your family when they use any of these "Vox explainer" talking points. It's very elaborate and very, very serious....

As I said, it's all very elaborate. He goes on to lay out a complicated set of tactical arguments designed to tie the foolish liberal up in knots. It is obviously something that merits a lot of serious thought and preparation. Clearly, it's extremely important.

Pearls before dum-dums.

As Aldous Huxley obsevered: "Every man is the author of his own pwnage."

Incidentally, Charles Cooke's piece was also panned by this Very Intelligent Pyrsyn, as trying for humor with "mixed results." That must mean it's pretty good.

Salon made its initial public offering of Salon.com on the NASDAQ in 1999.

In November 2002, the company announced it had accumulated cash and non-cash losses of $80 million, and by February 2003 it was having difficulty paying its rent, and made an appeal for donations to keep the company running.

On October 9, 2003, Michael O'Donnell, the chief executive and president of Salon Media Group, said he was leaving the company after seven years because it was "time for a change." When he left, Salon.com had accrued $83.6 million in losses since its inception, and its stock traded for 5¢ on the OTC Bulletin Board.

As Rush has been going on and on about, because apparently a lot of people just don't really get it, everything is political to the leftists. Every single fucking thing. Nothing outside the state, as their totalitarian forebears proclaimed. Every aspect of life and the material world is political.

The purpose of everything is political. Thanksgiving Dinner? Opportunity to advance the agenda, duh.

Anything they look at will have political implications. Take a set of plans for building a, hell, doghouse. They'll see symbols of racial and patriarchal oppression in those plans. And homophobic heteronormalizing in there as well.

A lot of our people, being normal, just can see this and take a lot of what these SJW say at face value. No, everything they do has a political meaning, and that's the prime purpose.

The "rashes" that these treat are serious things, like psoriasis, which is itself an autoimmune disease, causing your immune system to attack your skin. A type of arthritis, similiar to RA, but not the same, oft goes along with it.

Although they want me to, I've not taken them because the immune suppression is much worse, and with what I do, getting kicks and cuts all the time, raging infections could develop.

The side effects are bad, but the disease they are treating is worse, when used properly.

I recently cut the dreaded Comcast cable tv and am having fun looking at all that is available. Will try the freebies -- Hulu, Netflix, Sling etc. and then decide. Name of the game -- the most for the least. Two things for those so inclined.

Have AMZ Prime and heard about and checked out The Man in the High Castle . Has anybody watched it -- opinions? FYI I am not Sci Fi fan (so this is about as far as I get with that) but big on history

Second, any good news source out there? With the exception of Special Report I miss nothing about Fox. Right now I just occasionally check out Sky News (have no antenna or access to local) and the radio -- visuals are not a big deal for me and clips of the major events are usually available.

Yeah, they're frickin' obsessed with teh McCarthyism and blacklisting.

The hilarious part is that the Hollywood blacklist wasn't a case of government persecution, the government NEVER forbade them to work in films, it was the Studios themselves that kicked them to the curb. Basically it's a bunch of whiny crybabies that thought they were entitled to employment by the studios, whether the studios liked it or not.

Turkey is up to its eyeballs in it, and now I just read a piece at ZH naming names. The ISIS oilman is Bilal Erdogan, son of el Presidente. He's US edumacted, masters from Kennedy School, Hahvad dahling, and a stint at the World Bank before moving on to run a "marine transport company". This company is apparently the dirty bird in running ISIS oil.

They say the Russian jet was shot down over one of the corridors where Bilal moves his illicit oil. That would explain the shootdown, if they thought Ivan was going target the Turkish side.

389 Even some leftists have commented to me on the left's tendency to rewrite history.

Mind you, they keep doing it. I mean, they wouldn't be who they were if they didn't.

Posted by: Merovign, Dark Lord of the Sith at November 26, 2015 04:59 PM (5P63C)

Lefties have to rewrite history because no one in the past has ever lived up to their laughable, self-righteous standards (that none of them live up to today, either). Usually leftists like to deal with this by just ignoring history .,.. but when they have to look at history they are, thus, compelled to rewrite it.

it's like countries. Leftists will claim that America sucks and is the most evil country on Earth - with pretty much every shithole around being better and nicer and "more natural" ... but they'll never leave this country ... even as they proclaim it to be the worst thing ever.

They're both good. It depends on what you want to watch. The wife and I compromise, she has 'her' tv, I have mine.

425 EconTalk is an outstanding podcast. He talks about people comparing the ideal theory of whatever axiom you subscribe to, and compare it to the reality of whatever is happening. Explaining the uneven playing-field that people set up in their mind, because they are human, is valuable.

Do you think the government should provide proposition X? A high percent of people say yes. Do you think the DMV should provide proposition X? A lower number say yes. You say IRS, congress, the President, the Supreme Court, or literally any element of the government at all, and you will get lower numbers. Getting people to admit that the government isn't more than the sum of it's parts is a beginning step.

More people should have been skeptical about ACA, and the country is doomed if it stays naive.

427 I had a micro-debate recently with a liberal about size-of-government. I did point out that, if the richest country in the world can't pay for it, it might be too expensive.

They replied that it's not that we can't pay for it, it's a question of priorities.

They didn't mean, as it turns out, what to spend money on *within* government, they wanted society to spend less on other things. And more on what THEY wanted.

While pointing out this is the ultimate in selfishness, I also pointed out that unfunded liabilities were such that, to pay it off, we'd have to spend nothing on entertainment, housing, transportation, medical care, and food for at least two decades.

Ultimately, they will vote the same and think the same, because they rewrite reality on the fly.

Do the fake refugees want to farm their own food and make their own clothes like the Pilgrims, or do they want to sponge off others?

Did the Pilgrims seek to colonize France and Germany so as to collect entitlements?

See, to make this equation, Obama fixates on a morally IRRELEVANT attribute (Pilgrims and fake refugees both want to come to this continent), and ignores relevant differences, like what they each believe and do, because he is a vile pie of dogshit, and he knows his followers are retards who will eagerly slurp up the most feeble rationalization as long as it props up their narrative.

Planet Earth (1974)

A man awakens from suspended animation and finds himself in the
22nd century, where he finds that women rule the world and that men are
slaves called Dinks.

starring John Saxon

Yeah, they're good. Definitely worth checking out. I wouldn't say that either are truly great, or anything. It's not the fault of the movies, it's just I don't know that a cinematic version of the book can do it justice. It doesn't lend itself to the film format easily. But, they do a decent job, all things considered. The 84 version does have Hurt and Burton going for it, which helps selling the truncated format.

Haven't seen that Planet Earth flick. Sounds interesting. John saxon is always good value.

No major studio would dare make 'Camp of the Saints'. There is a Hollywood blacklist and all participants in that effort would be sure to be on it. By the way, they are making a sure-to-be-hagiographic film about Dalton Trumbo, screenwriter and erstwhile fellow traveler, starring Bryan Cranston of 'Breaking Bad' fame.

Any culture that would make a hero out of Dalton Fucking Trumbo yet completely ignore director Theo Van Gogh, who really did pay the price for artistic freedom, is rotten to the core.

Whoa. It takes 45 minutes just to cook chicken drumsticks in an oven. There is no way a turkey would be done in that amount of time. Unless it was pre-cooked and you are just reheating?

20 minutes per lb. is the guideline for planning a meal, but must be adjusted for factors such as turkey size, cooking temp, oven efficiency, etc. And generally a cooking thermometer with a probe is the best way to determine if it is "done", shooting for a target temp of 160 to 180, depending on whether you are measuring the light or dark meat and where you place the probe (best place is about 2.5" into the breast, but away from the bone).

Posted by: The Thankful Hat at November 26, 2015 07:24 PM (vBeA5)

Basting does not affect the turkey, only the skin. And the opening and closing of the oven makes the cooking/roasting process much more problematic.

If you want your turkey to retain enough moisture during the cooking process with less fuss and bother, you just need to brine it first. There are many recipes out there, but the one I have used for many years with great success is Alton Brown's. Which makes sense, since he based his recipes on a careful study of the science behind the cooking.

Basic principle: use a brine to get salt into your turkey, which causes it to absorb more moisture (and also flavors, when you add some to the brine). Then, when cooking, the turkey releases some of the extra moisture, but not enough to dry out. Note: the salt from a properly prepared brine does not make the turkey taste salty.

Here endeth the sermon.

Boy, and I thought reading twitter in English was difficult..

Wow.
You know, I admire that though meaning the tweet from the Russian embassy. No politically correct mincing pansies there. Contrast that with the poufs we've got in charge over here.

689 Away from home & family for the first Thanksgiving in a long time. In Minneapolis, for daughter's Irish dance competition. Went to a wonderful steakhouse called Manny's for dinner. Bacon appetizer - 1 & 1/4 inch slabs of bacon perfectly cooked (crispy and charred on the ends). Bone-in filet + 85 day dry-aged, bone-in ribeye. Sautéed mushrooms and truffle fries. All shared among wife and kids. Great service, not stuffy at all. Best steaks I've ever had. Ridiculously flavorful.

It weren't cheap, but it was as good a Turkey Day as we could ask for away from family and home.

Step 7 of the progressive douchenozzle manual: when caught, declare that it was all just satire (or post-ironic) and the poor thugly conservatard is just too dim to appreciate it.
