Fox News: Obama Might Catch Backfire for Ahmad-the-Gentle-Clockmaker Story

I figured this was a blogosphere only story, and that we were all just talking to each other.

I was wrong.

Andrew Napolitano is now openly saying he believes the current evidence points to this being a deliberate hoax -- and that the police's theory was right. He says this having himself been one of the early critics of police (as I was -- though, I always insisted that it was proper to ask this kid questions and confiscate the clock; I only questioned the arrest angle).

The rest of the media continues pretending these questions have not been raised, because that's their job -- advancing Social Justice Warrior Narratives for purposes of political advocacy, not investigating or reporting the truth.

The series of disclosures -- that Ahmad did not "invent" a clock, but merely took a Radio Shack clock out of its casing and stuck it in a pencil box; that his sister had been previously suspended for allegedly threatening to blow up the school; that his sister was feeding him his lines when he spoke to Mark Cuban; that the family is collecting money to sue; that Ahmad's dad is a committed activist: that Irving's mayor has been targeted by Muslim activists for rejecting Sharia -- all of these disclosures are, taken together, suggesting this was a deliberate stunt, a provocation intended to trick the very gullible and leftwing and America-hating into adding their support to The Cause.

And of course it worked:

Conservative activists continue to defame Ahmad Mohammad and his family after he courageously invented a devise that could become the new standard for clock advancement.

The hyper critical statements accusing the family of staging this event is disgusting, and in the end will be proven to be the standard right wing conspiracy dedicated to damaging the Mohammad family and their supporters.

28 Michael Barone has written a provocative article saying the political facts in America are changing hard and fast (see link below).

The last time this happened in a similar way, Democrats were the beneficiaries and their electorate expanded over 20%. If Barone is really on to something, and the future plays out as he suggests is possible, we have a great chance to elect a conservative.

Are we really going to cash that chip in for a junior Senator from Florida who was rick-rolled by the McVain/Schumer cabal?

33 A thinking person might think that after a lifetime of being bombarded non stop, night and day, with broadcast advertising in every media imaginable people would develop an immunity to advertising.

The car is not going to get you the girl. The college degree won't make you a millionaire.

Yet when a politician says something you want to hear, we believe it. We might fear the politician is not being honest, but we hope that this time he really means it.

Now we're going through that same progression with the news media. We hope the news is true, we want to believe it, and every time we do, we discover it wasn't accurate.

One day, we're gonna all catch on, and then what happens?

yes ace and others, there apparently is a big question about that idiotic TFG tweet - its timing, I mean. Reportedly no pic of the "clock" was even public or available at the time of the twerp's tweet.

Also, no contact at all between the WH and the school or the city of Irving, according to the mayor there. !!!!!!!

Jeebus. THIS is how degraded the country is. A real WH doesn't get a prez anywhere near anything before checking it out thoroughly. (of course a real WH/prez wouldn't go near anything like this, or Trayvon, or Gates, or Gentle Giant, in general)

These people are just as dim as they appear. We have third-rate individuals now at the top of the pyramid. Protected, of course, by a "press" that is little more than a PR service them. This WH can (and does, regularly) commit the most egregious and humiliating mistakes - without ever paying the tiniest price. For comparisonrecall the previous incumbent, for whom there was a non-stop 24/7 frothing hysterical lynch mob environment, producing fake "scandals" all the time.

There's some potential here. This whole thing appears as dubious as you probably first thought. There are ticking bombs (sorry) all over the place: tweet before photo (back-channel WH coordination?), full police report that apparently will show Ahmad being very uncooperative with police, the idiocy of the non-invention itself.

The "press" of course will hide and distort all this if they can. If only there were some prominent public figures, whose statements command almost automatic wide coverage, who could call out this outrage, and more importantly b-slap this "president"for yet another irresponsible, hateful, un-presidential bit of divisive grievance-mongering. You know, someone like sitting senators, or hey, presidential candidates.

___________________

Yeah, they want shari'a courts in Texas, and there were Muslims in New Jersey shouting up a local school board meeting, demanding that Muslim holidays be officially recognized and saying "you'd better watch out, we'll be the majority soon."

Meanwhile, John F-ing Kerry wants to bring in another 100,000 Syrian Muslims (on top of the over 280,000 Muslims Obama has been bring in every year already).

But there's nothing to worry about, folks, and people like Ben Carson who say that Islam is incompatible with our constitutional system are just a bunch of raaaaacists and Islamophobes and haters. Because the constitution totally allows for shari'a courts to be built with your tax dollars, right? You may not have known it, because it's been emanating from one of those invisible penumbras, but it clearly says there in the text: "F*ck the separation of church and state, and f*ck the first amendment; you shall build shari'a courts and recognize Muslim religious holidays and do anything else your Islamic masters require of you."

169 Suggestive, but nothing close to "preponderance of evidence" much less "beyond a reasonable doubt". Cops shouldn't have arrested the kid, should have handed it to the D.A. for more subtle questioning and investigation of the family. Probably too late now unless the family says something stupid.

Don't know why the kid not building the clock from components is relevant, it's still plausibly a geeky thing to do, and the technically savvy saw that that was the case as soon as the picture of the clock was released. The libs in the White House and MIT should have been a bit more suspicious before going all-in. But then they wouldn't be libs.

Every state has a version of the "safe school act" passed post -columbine and heavily lobbied for by anti-gun groups.

Essentially any weapon (or anything that even looks like a weapon, including apparently a pop tart eaten in the shape of a gun) has to go through a process -- I don't think the school admins have any choice but to involve the cops / school resource officers.

My 4 year old taking a clock apart is geeky. A young man taking a clock apart and putting it in a case and taking it to school with wires and stuff sticking out and an alarm signal going off in English class who's father is connected to CAIR and has run for President of Sudan and is employed in something called Twin Towers and has had run-ins with the mayor concerning Sharia law isn't geeky. It's a poke in the eye. It's a middle finger of intimidation.

Trump should. His numbers would skyrocket.

Ben Carson was absolutely right in what he said the other day: Islam is fundamentally incompatible with American civilization. Muslims do not believe in the separation of church and state, they do not believe in freedom of religion, they do not believe in freedom of speech, they do not believe in equal civil rights for females, they do not believe in equal civil rights for homosexuals, they do not believe in free markets, etc., etc.

So why is our government continuing to import millions of them here? Our own government is setting us up for a clash of civilizations in our own land. It's insane. We already have Muslims in Texas demanding that we build them sharia courts. But shhhhhhhh, we're not allowed to talk about the fact that Islam is a political/legal/economic/social/religious system that is in fundamental conflict with every basic facet of our own constitutional system. That would be raaaaaacist or Islamophobic or nativist.

Trump should step up to the challenge. Americans are desperate for somebody to finally speak the truth. Trump has the megaphone now. Use it!

Justified tut-tutting from public figures about how inappropriate and outrageous it is for the WH to get involved in something it knew nothing about, and how this continues a pattern (Trayvon, Gentle Giant)?

Reminder: Gabriel Over the White House airs tomorrow on TCM. It is a remarkable example of the progressives love for fascism even back in 1933 when this movie was made. From IMDb:

Newly inaugurated President Judson Hammond is content to live out the next four years exercising a hands-off approach and leaving the problems of Depression America to local authorities. But after a miraculous recovery from an auto accident, Hammond is ready to take on every social ill and neither Congress, gangsters nor the nations of the world will stop him.

From Wikipedia:

Gabriel Over the White House is a 1933 American Pre-Code film starring Walter Huston that has been variously described as a "bizarre political fantasy"[2] or a "comedy drama"[3] that "is surprisingly socialist in tone (albeit veering toward National Socialism)"[4] and which "posits a favorable view of fascism."[5]

308 grammie winger, in Nigeria, we have what's called National Youth service, where recent university graduates are posted somewhere in the country for a year to help in teaching for example (or if you are lucky like one of my friends, practising law in an oil company).

So, one of my sister's friends served as a dentist in the north in one of the hard core Muslim states. So she said that she and a friend were talking outside and the friend finished with an orange and then tossed it on the ground. (The way we eat oranges, the fibrous insides still remain unless like me, you peel them out and eat them.)

Anyway, next thing you know, some of the little kids who attended an Islamic school dived for the discarded orange on the nasty ground because they were so hungry. They don't feed them in their schools.

I lived in Lagos, one of the southernmost states, where most people are Christian, but I don't think I ever saw a non-Muslim beggar. They were from the north or Islamic border countries like Niger or Chad. It was not uncommon to see male beggars with amputated hands due to contravening Sharia law.

Alms is one of their 5 pillars, but apparently charity isn't.

318 I was always really ticked off at the school for the way they handled their concerns about the kid and his clock.

I thought his background, religion and ethnicity were factors but not the but-for factor in their stupid treatment of him.

And when I say stupid I still mean stupid.

My point of view, from the begining, is I don't like the lack of discernment and discretion - the overkill - of zero tolerance excuse discipline.
Assume the worst - said. And the worst didn't include any real bomb threat - the worst was a PR stunt/and/or.actual attempt at a *hoax* bomb threat. Even the dopey English teacher only ever suspected an attempt at hoaxing.

The way to handle that is not how they handled it. If it was a PR trap they fell right in the pit, the fools. The way to deal with the kid is, bring that up here. You disrupted my class with the beeping device (that he had to actually plug into the wall to make beep). You have detention, and I'm taking your "clock" until the end of the year.
Furthermore, the teacher, or principle, needed to sit the kid down and say, we encourage your interest in knowledge and tinkering, but there is a time and a place to experiment with and show them. Electronic projects of any sort should either stay in your pack, at home, or in the class that sponsors them . Devices with wires and timers can create alarm as well as disruptive noise, and English class is not the place to bring them out.

THE END.

Kid goes home with no project, and also overreaction to show for it, and is on notice that he will be in big trouble if he repeats the misadventure. Nipping his behaviour in the bud without accusation but just on what is already manifest was enough. The teacher thought it looked like a prop-bomb, she had no alarm that it was a bomb or any real danger to anyone. She thought he was up to no good, but did not have to acknowlege that. He's already disrupted class and can be punished for that, and warned off of a repeat. Kid is on notice and will have to escalate beyond plausible deniability to get his stunt balloon in the air if he ever tries again.

The kid can say it was only meant to be a clock, but the physical evidence is that it was built to look like a bomb. It could be mistaken for one. It would pass muster as a bomb-prop for drama class. Lying to the police is a crime, by the way.

On top of that, he was questioned on why he had it, and he did not give satisfactory answers. He was warned not to show it around by an engineering teacher, but he plugged it in during English class to disrupt it.

There is more than enough factual evidence reported by the news to justify the police's actions.

358 In the North of Nigeria, I heard that back in the day (when I was in high school), the federal govt boarding houses in the North were relatively cushy to try to get them to go to school. Most federal govt boarding houses in the south, on the other hand, would probably be a step down for Rikers inmates, LOL.

Oh, and my sister's dentist friend said that they would riot at the drop of a hat if the local imams were feeling restless and demanded the lives of infidels. And Yoruba Muslims did not count as real Muslims, so they were fair game.

(Yoruba Muslims are are the elusive moderate Muslims you are looking for. They get along with everyone, and it wasn't too uncommon for a Yoruba Muslim to marry a Christian and the kids were allowed to pick the religion they wanted.)

It was so bad that there was this slum where Igbo people lived (also from the south, almost always Christian) in that city and it was super expensive to live there because it was safe compared to living among the Muslims.

But yeah, it's funny.

You can find it in the euphemistically named "ethnic" hair care section of your local store, if you have such a section.

I will leave my rant about how irritating it is for the "ethnic" hair care section to cater only to one type of hair for another time. I thought, for example, Asians, were "ethnic" too.

The snooze media informed us that Mini-Mo was an "electronics genius" and said it was "obvious" that his device was not a bomb.

I kinda figured it would be a more plausible case if they had:

(a) Brought in an actual electronics hobbyist to ask basic questions of the "genius". What does a diode do? Define the difference between direct and alternating current? How about the difference between AM and FM radio?

(b) Brought in a former military EOD specialist to declare whether or not it should be obvious to an untrained layperson that Mini-Mo's device was a bomb or not.

Believe me, I know. It's seems to be getting even more common now, and there are more upscale, ahem, "toning" creams available for women to use. Even some guys bleach, which is mind blowing. And the end skin color is always nasty and unnatural, and apparently, women who bleach smell. (It's possible that the more upscale creams produce more natural looking skin.)

My nephew showed me before and after pictures of this 18-year old who was very dark before and then a few months later, she's almost as light as your typical Arab. She claimed it was because she traveled abroad and that's how her skin reacts to Western skies. Uhuh. Like anyone believed her.

You know one of the reasons black don't crack? Melanin. Why in this day and age people still destroy their skin is a mystery.

And apparently a number of African American celebrities have been accused of bleaching - Beyonce, Rihanna, Nikki Minaj.

Heck, in Person of Interest, Taraji P. Henson went from a nice medium brown skin tone in Season 1 to a suspiciously lighter and yellower color in Season 3. I've still been trying to find out on the internet if anyone suspects here of bleaching, but I haven't found anything yet.

The problem is that Muslims, much like members of a certain native demographic group, are aware that if they stick to their own areas, they can eff them - and each other - up as much as they like, and we'll leave them to it. We'll just avoid those areas. Easy.

But they want attention, for which read "bucks," and they only get that by being a pain in the ass to us, after which we'll pay them [fill in derogatory ethnic reference here]geld to eff off. Walling them off in shitty neighborhoods, or shitty countries, doesn't work for them, because we won't pay them then.

493 Dogfish, he hadn't threatened any one or made a threat. Just the look of it, is not a hoax, even if it's what he had in mind, or if he had some PR persecution scam in the works. There's no crime in English class, there's a device that beeps that he calls a clock and never called it anything else. And the teacher knew it wasn't dangerous - its self evident because she kept it and didn't evacuate the class.

So what you have even if you assume the worst, an intention to have people get their hackles up over nothing and to put it up to bigotry, or to later at some future time put it where there is no one to explain it is a clock, like behind a ceiling panel, that hasn't happened. The best way to handle it is punish the kid for the disruption and warn him off of bringing electronics and plugging them in in English class or other classes where the project is not part of the classwork.

And disappoint him with a crummy detention instead of reward him with a PR coup. That would have put an end to any repetition of the event unless he gave up what he had and had at the end of all the interrogating - plausible denial and no possible proof of a crime, absent confession of intention.

They would have overreacted even if he were a presbyterian white pom pom girl with a deadly advil, the point is that specific situation could have been handled with some intelligence and discretion, and disappointed its promoters in the the most disappointing way possible - no publicity.

It's funny you say that. When I first cut off my perm, it was the summer after my junior year and I was one of only 2 black students in a research program at Mayo clinic in whitest Minnesota. I received so many compliments from the other students.

Then I returned to my black school and got all sorts of negative comments, mostly from fellow Nigerians, including one of my professors!

I think Africans are the worst about it, but more of us are keeping our hair natural.

But the weaves! One of my friends that still lives in Nigeria says she's surprised that Brazilians still have any hair with all the Brazilian hair weaves Nigerian women buy.

516 This, THIS. is why I always question the motives of people I deal with.

I caught hell for even suggesting it in a previous comment on this blog, as if it's some sort of tactic for the low brow. It's not - its an absolutely indispensable skill in this day and age.

These f*ckers have played a lot of people with this scam, including people who are normally smart enough to see through this type of shit, all because it had something for them to grab onto (Zero Tolerance policies, thug law enforcement, "racism", etc.). The Narrative is very powerful, boys and girls, so you better have your Bullshit Detector set to 1000.

And by the way, King Putt could not WAIT to jump on this. And it had nothing to do with ascertaining truth or fact - truth or fact does not matter to him or people like him. The story fit their fantasy, their agenda, so they lapped it up, knowing that like-minded disphits will have it imprint on their brain in 24 hours never to wash clean. "Hands Up, Don't Shoot" anyone?

islam is a political ideology that seeks to rule the world and everything known.

Judaism is a religion and a nation ( finite nation whose boundaries are described in the Torah), which over the millenia has distilled out to an ethnicity (jews tend to share more genetically with other Jews than with surrounding populations), though people could always convert to Judaism (which a few have done here and there).

So the Ashkenazi constitute a race? How about the Sephardi? Are they a race too?

I don't know the formal definition of a race, but I'm pretty sure neither qualifies. Forensic pathologists can determine the race (Negroid, Mongoloid, Caucasoid) of a body from skeletal morphology (just as they can determine sex). That's a pretty fundamental difference, methinks, and one that would militate against classifying Jews or Icelanders as a separate race.

Sounds like you want to use race for large categories of human beings, and ethnicities for smaller groupings.

Cult - a tiny crazy religion
Religion - a large and acceptable cult

So there was a B-movie stunt with a poor widdle adorable illegal kid begging Il Papa for humanitarian intervention?

Things keep proving the country can, in fact, become even more degraded. There is no "low" that holds for long, something worse/more pathetic comes up quickly.

And there are many, many utterly clueless "caring" people who will eat up this juvenile theater. And many Catholics who can't face the fact that the Church and Chamber of Commerce proceed from essentially the same premise: their bottom lines, the hell with the country generally, the hell with the future.

I am ashamed I didn't call this one in advance. That's how obvious and ridiculous it is.

Yeah, the Soviets occupied a lot of the German military for us ... but only because Hitler back-stabbed Stalin. Thank G-d for that.

And I would ask the Russian, "What about the Pacific Theater?" to which the answer was inevitably, "What?"

The Russians based their notion of "winning the war" on how many soldiers they lost. But I told him that doesn't matter - Russia's main military tactic has always been to lose more men than anyone.

672 Global Climate Change - the Earth is generally getting warming as the sunlight heats the ocean; evaporation rate increases as does precipitation; this continues until the higher elevation and latitude snow and ice cannot melt in the summer; this increases albedo, reducing heat gain and precipitation; until finally the snow pack recedes, albedo increases, and the heating starts all over again.

680 So the Ashkenazi constitute a race?

They do, however artificially that has happened. I should know - I am one. I got the DNA results to prove it: they say "Ashkenazi" (at least that side of my ancestry), and they don't break that down into whatever-percent-this and whatever-percent-that.

[Although, interestingly, I do have a maternal line of descent as well, that *doesn't* go to Eretz-Israel; it does to, um, China.]

I'd say much the same of the Boers and the Cape Coloured, and of certain Kriol populations around the Caribbean. They're distinct peoples now, however they started out.

The reason they're / we're a race is because we underwent a population bottleneck and maintained separation from our neighbours for centuries. We also chose certain trades and lands to concentrate on, and booted out those who didn't do so well. A few centuries of that tends to breed certain characteristics.

The Germans had the advantage of being able to commit almost entirely to the east during those years. Apart from the north african front, it was all east all the time. When 43 rolls around, the Italian front opens up, the bombing campaign gets serious and the threat of a western front landing becomes a major drain on what was needed on the russian front. The air defence alone in the west was a major contributor to not being able to hold the rebound of russian production.

I read a Nazi veteran talking about the massive attacks the Russians would throw at them. They would fall back until the Russians paused. You see, when the Russians had taken their objective, they would have to call back for orders on what to do next. They were not allowed to take the initiative. That is when the Nazis would counterattack and catch them in disarray. He said they would usually take back all the ground they had lost and more.

During the whole war, Soviet production figures show they produced 344k cars and Trucks. They received 433K from the U.S. Alone. 6300 Tanks and over 14k Aircraft were also sent.

Sure the Soviets Supplied the majority of Manpower. They had the Arsenal of Democracy watching their back to do it.

Cheetahs seem to be the most trainable big cats, probably because they're sort of feral as much as wild - kept as pets in large numbers for thousands of years, many were interbred with "wild" cats and even released to the wild.

Nah, Ur- means the "original" or "earliest".

Back when the Steppe nomads were watching the wheels of their chariots go around and round as they jolted and juttered across the open plains they would paint or tie small bright spots onto the spokes and watch the sinuous path they appeared to make.. right up until they fell into a creek or got motion sick and had to stop and puke.
That was the ur-sine.

798 Don't know why the kid not building the clock from components is relevant, it's still plausibly a geeky thing to do, and the technically savvy saw that that was the case as soon as the picture of the clock was released. The libs in the White House and MIT should have been a bit more suspicious before going all-in. But then they wouldn't be libs.

Posted by: Socratease at September 23, 2015 07:44 PM (FqHs5)

He really "built" nothing. He just unboxed a manufactured clock, and stuffed the guts crudely into a pencil case, thus making it about 100% less useful than it previously was. An eight-year old might be expected to do this; a 14-year old should be beyond that.

800 @681
Would they have been able to do that without massive logistical support from the U.S.

Look at the number soft skinned transport that made it to the Soviet Union and tell me they could have done what they did without an extra half million trucks laying around.
---------------------

It helped. How much it helped is open to question, but it definitely helped. For instance, my guess is that the Summer 1944 offensive still would have been a great success even without Lend-Lease support. But I don't think that it would have resulted in the destruction of an entire army group, as it did historically, because US trucks were what allowed the Soviet troops to keep the pressure on the retreating German forces.

Posted by: junior at September 23, 2015 11:43 PM (PVi+Q)

801 Meh. The Mayans and the Aztecs and the rest of them certainly hauled enough heavy stuff around their cities to benefit greatly from using the wheel (even without beasts of burden). I don't find this explanation very satisfying. I've also heard that they couldn't use wagons on the steep mountain trails ... same thing. They had big, flat cities that they did major construction in.

Shit, dung beetles mold little bits of shit into "wheels" to make it easier for them to roll them back home. Dung beetles!

Agreed. You can pretty easily move half a ton on a two-wheeled handcart if it is well-balanced. Try toting that by hand., And there is no good reason a bicycle could not have been invented by a clever person using tech of the Classical era. That it wasn't is kind of surprising.
