Meet The PetMorons

j the cc.jpg

For your consideration, a current picture of our #1 cat, Jack the Cat, aka (by me) Mr. Creosote, establishing furniture dominance. Found by my wife as a very young kitten in our garden, he was brought to the house and fed. Amply. That said, he's a very social fellow of good cheer and a feline gourmand.

Best Regards,

Very Long-Time Lurker Mauser Medic.

A cat with personality!

I've been getting pics together for the pet thread and managed to get this 22 second video on YouTube.

Our 50 pound dog Ralphy is helping himself to a little cat food and water of visiting cat Trump, who is not ours. Trumpy is less than 10 pounds but looks over 20 because he's so fluffy!

Love that cat!

Not pet related but just came back from early voting here in Michigan. Paper ballots, but you have to feed them into a mechanical tabulator, which was jammed. The election officials offered to have people step out of line and put there ballots in a box to be counted later.

30 people in line, no one took them up on it. Started working 10 minutes later.

God bless America.

A dog's stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) is of a much stronger concentration than ours. Very few microorganisms survive that and bones dissolve.

20 K.T.!

You're the best!

Thanks, I'm trying to get pictures to you this week.

First, I loved the tarantula video. And the cat in the pumpkin. Jack the Cat is so cute!

Trumpy and Snowflake are well. It's almost been a month since they've been visiting. We trust them completely in the house. Even alone. But I try to keep them separate.

Our friends told me Trumpy will be getting fixed Thrusday. Snowflake was going to get neutered Friday but her Mom was concerned she may be pregnant and they wouldn't abort the kittens.

I get worried about the cats when they leave the house. They are outdoor cats so there is a part of me mentally prepared for bad things happening. They have free run of the house and are here more and more.

When they sleep, I love going up to them, petting them and hearing them purr. I kiss them on the head and tell them I love you. The dog, Ralphy is getting more 'I love you's too.

Thank everyone for your help during this.

I am concerned about their weight, although Jack looks very happy. I have been weighing them like a crazy pageant Mom and monitoring their food intake.

I actually have kittens to go take care of.

Everyone have a happy week.
And thank you!

22 Hello fellow pet servants. Toby dog is tired but happy because I took a short ride today and let Toby tag along.

I just swatted a spider. I hardly ever kill them but this fool was dangling right between me and the monitor. I'll tolerate things like snakes and spiders that eat mice and flies IF they stay out of my bubble.

38 Afternoon, Pet folken,

Stateless, all this time I thought Trumpy was a red tabby. He's gray -- a "blue" cat, I think it's called! That tail is amazing in its length and sheer presence. Longhairs are the best!

My monsters are here -- at least I can see big black Stirling. No idea where little gray Dagny has gotten off to.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 26, 2024 04:11 PM (omVj0)

39 At the barber this morning, another patron told my barber her new kitten has been scratching her arms. The arms did not look bad -- I think she meant the kitten was milk-treading. I asked and she showed me a phone video of what looked like a short-haired version of a Ragdoll cat: bright blue eyes, creamy fur, grayish-brown mask and darker ears and tail. The lady said she found the kitten near a dumpster at a nearby hospital (!). Is there such a breed as a short-haired Ragdoll variant?

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 26, 2024 04:12 PM (omVj0)

40 Of course black cats are signs of prosperity and good fortune. Black cats as bad luck? The very idea! Pffft!

42 Our household monster is currently parked on the mouse pad and expects me to put my hand back on the table so she can sleep on it. She seems to think there should be no penalty for her failure an hour ago to deposit all of her solid digestive by-products in the litter box and saving some of it to leave on the family room rug.

But the nifty Mrs Some Guy is partial to her. So I guess the little fuzzball will not be punted into the next county. This time, anyway...

Ah, cats...

49 I've written before on here, practically every week, how our exuberant young Malinois Daisy wants to play, but old lucky black cat Ony will - at best - tolerate her getting close, but usually just hiss and run off.

Well, this week we had a great instance of interspecies cooperation. Sort-of.

In the main room, we saw Ony with something in her mouth. Yes, a wiggling mouse. Don't know if she caught it in the house or brought it in from the back porch. Ony ran into the bedroom with it (oh no!) and Milady followed her in.

Cat owners can relate that a cat will rarely help by taking its prey outside. And, of course, on encouragement to do otherwise, she dropped the rodent.

Fortunately, it scuttled back out into the main room, where Daisy, already alerted to Something Happening, caught the beast. Daisy dropped it and picked it up several times. Then we said to Daisy, take it out in the back yard. And she did!

It was dark out, so we don't know the mouse's final fate, but when Daisy came back in, she was mouse-free.

Good teamwork, critters. Treats and pets all around.

Daughter and I just got back from the dog park. I thought it would just be a big fenced in field, but there are actually trails through the "woods" and in the middle there is a nice big open space. Our two boys got to sniff and be sniffed. And after the walk, we gave them a bath. This park has an all-weather little building with a dog wash inside. Warm water and everything!

Posted by: haffhowershower at October 26, 2024 04:36 PM (NMT5x)

54 As for spiders, yes, I usually leave them be. My mother's advice to me as a young Wolfus was to leave them alone, as they would catch and kill worse things. That said . . . my '03 Buick Park Avenue seemed to be haunted now and then by these pale, long-legged spiders. Every now and then I'd find one in the trunk, or scuttering across the roof. They showed up against the dark finish, and I'd sweep them off.

One day, though, I was driving, and one swung down in front of my face! I grabbed it and crushed it fast. In traffic, a distraction like that I do not need.

I grew up on a farm and in the summers we had a huge garden spider that spun a four foot web on our back porch. One morning I headed out in the morning to do chores and it ran over to the edge of the web and waggled its legs. I put my hand out, it put one leg on my hand, then scuttled back. After that, it came over every morning to touch my hand. Plus we had no flies or mosquitoes on the porch!

76 Spiders and snakes, skinks and others... if it seems to be a garden spider or garden snake, we will try to catch it in our Mindful Webworks Bug Cup™️ and let it go outside.

If it's an ugly spider or indeterminant, goosh. Sorry guy. Never had a bad snake get into the house, so far.

Assuming our furry hunters don't find them first. Ony cat has been pretty good at alerting us to big ol' garden spiders crawling along, then lets us deal with 'em.

Daisy dog catches flies, and other fluttering insects. Really had a furious chase going after a big buzzing fly the other day, but dog won. Bon appétit, pupster!

77 "There was some batshit Slav who lives with an actual cougar"

Yeah, I watch their vids. They rescued the cat and raised it from a cub.
They live in a nice rustic place specialized as an enclosure.
They are Russian, I think.

80 Northernlurker,

Pumpkin puree (like you use to make pumpkin pies) is good for dog digestive problems, not just diarrhea but also stomach upsets. I told a neighbor whose dog had recurring diarrhea about it and he said it solved his problem.

I give my dog a tablespoonful in her food once a day as a preventive measure.
