If I'm doing this right, should be three attachments here, pix for the pet thread. One is two cats ready for Christmas. Comet and Kismet, living at Daughter (Sugar Plum Fairy) & Son-in-Law's house. These boys were first seen as tiny kittens in the Pet Thread Sep 19, 2020. They are much bigger now.I guess Comet and Kismet didn't even have names back then. But they sure were cute. And the story at the link is great. They are still charming as they get ready for Christmas. Next: Daughter & S-i-L generously took in Daisy our overly-affectionate Belgian Malinois, while we were hospitalized. She's pictured with their dogs, her good friends Chowie and Maya, all looking very obedient and attentive in anticipation of treats. Also: Daisy learned (finally) to get along with their cats, and is pictured paw-to-paw with Kismet. Always enjoy the pet thread. I'll get some pix of SonM's dogs & cat, sometime. Takes me a while to do anything in email nowadays.Love the photos! The dogs waiting for treats look like they have been practicing in formation. And the stories are nice, too. ![]() This is Pinto, aka The Pinterminator. He's an accomplished tomcat, skilled hunter, master of a large suburban territory, and expert with the local animals' storm drain/subway system. He's also the new Head Cat down at the creek across the road, having displaced the neighbor's cat Zydeco, who was getting a bit long in the tooth. Yet at heart he's a gentle soul whose favorite thing on earth is his friend Rae, to whom he remains devoted. They were both rescue cats and spent the first year of their life together in a shelter. Photo and text courtesy of Lady S.Pinto and Rae look very contented together. It's great to have a friend! ![]() ![]() Hello, KT, I hope I'm doing this right. She was a rescue dog who bit and snarled when she first came to Stately Poppins Manor, but now she wants constant petting and cuddling with her daddy. I would love to think there's a rainbow bridge, because I want my girls. Yours, MP4What sweethearts! I can see why you love them and want them with you. Read on concerning the rainbow bridge. ![]() ![]() A rainbow bridge for Hadrian's Delilah We lost our old blind dog a few years ago, and several days after he went on, we saw this in the sky out back. My daughter said she thought it was Homer telling us he got there safely. I looked it up, and it is called a circumzenithal arc, and is a phenomenon related to sun dogs (appropriately enough!) Apparently it is fairly common, but not often seen because most people aren't in the habit of looking up. I feel very lucky to have seen this and got a picture. Please tell Hadrian there's photo proof: the Bridge is real. Photo of Homer the spaniel and BeerBeer the hot mess included. Beer is still with us at ten now. Sincere condolences to Hadrian and spouse -- I will miss reading about Delilah's triumphs. We had a photo of Delilah and her pups just two weeks ago! What a shock that she could go so quickly! Miss Lily the corgi turned 4 last week. We were visiting, sort of baby-sitting, our daughter's kids ages 10 thru 17 while mom and dad went away to Vegas for a birthday vacay.
In the house with us and Lily as guests, were two pets, a 60 pound jet black Belgian sheepdog, and a fancy 6 month old cat. Lily had never experienced being the outsider, a visitor, in a house called home by a big huge dog and a spooky cat with claws. The cat was the boss, he made Miss Lily scream twice during the week with sharp swipes to the face, and was always moving around the perimeter making sure he knew what she was doing. We got Lily when she was a ten week old puppy, and she never ever has peed or pooped inside a house. We crate-trained her from the start, and she has been perfect. Except in the cat's house. There, we caught her doing little squats to mark her presence, and twice, tootsie-roll sized poops. I knew exactly why she was doing it. The cat. We left there last Tuesday, Miss Lily happy to be gone. And as housetrained as ever. Houses, hotels, public places, she's good. Posted by: Mr Gaga at December 16, 2023 04:13 PM (KiBMU) 38
Let's try this again on the right post! How did that happen?
Pet thread yay pet thread! Last night we let Daisy out to the newly fenced-in area, not realizing it had rained. Hilarity veritably did ensue. Let her in by the bathroom door. She came in, miserable, wearing four mud golashes -clayey mud, grass, leaves, pine needles- you could build a hut out of that stuff. Door was shut so she couldn't track up the rest of the house, but the bathroom got splattered. It was a titanic struggle as we tried to drag that terrified mass of muscle to the shower. By the time we had her front paws hosed off, she seemed to get the idea and let us do her back paws. Then began clean-up of mud-smeared carpets and mopping the concrete floor. Quite a dogastrophe! At least it was just her paws. My PT would probably approve of the exercise I got. Reassured her she's a good girl, wasn't her fault. Back to walkies on the leash, until things dry out! For several generations all of our dogs have been taught "Hark!" to stop barking. Which led to one psycho neighbor calling the cops to tell them we were telling our dogs to Bark just to bother her. It was easily resolved when the cops arrived and a gaggle of waggy tailed barking dogs greeted them at the gate, When I came out I commanded "Hark! Sit" and they all shut up, sat...still wagging. but now in the dirt. I explained that they are naturally inclined to defend their "Homeland" against angry strangers...and they lady next door regularly yells at them(with cuss words) from the other side of the fence. They knocked on her door and she came out.. yelling and cussing at the dogs, me, and eventually even the cops. During which of course the dogs started barking at her...I harked them, and they piped down. I suggested that the solution was for her to be introduced to the dogs, know their names, talk nice to them, maybe even toss them a treat...like a hush puppy....if she wanted them to not bark at her. The cops agreed, she yelled at the sergeant, the dogs started barking to defend him...HE told them to "Hark!" they shut up...

Later she called the planning/zoning inspector...he came out, heard the same explanation, witnessed the same solution, she got mad at him. Then he noticed the fence...
Seems she had never pulled a permit for a privacy fence, it was taller than the Law allowed...AND...she had put the frame side out, Law says frame side in, PRETTY side out, or staggered so that both sides are the same. Posted by: birdog at December 16, 2023 04:24 PM (sYlnp) 42

I had neighbor problems when I tried to put up a fence for the pups. She insisted I had no right, even when I had a surveyor friend over to measure the property line. I eventually had to go to city hall, who told me she'd already been over and they looked up the zoning and told her I was in the right and she could screw.
Once the fence was up, she tried to apologize, saying that she had 'found out' I could do what I did. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at December 16, 2023 04:55 PM (Q0kLU) 68

I'm going to have to find my brother in law's dog a good home in the next few weeks. It's a female english setter approaching a year old. I think it was born earlier in the year. She's a tad on the smaller side as far as english setters go, as was her mother.

Berserker, that shouldn't be any problem. There are a good many breed specific groups you can contact

There is a good Facebook group for dogs with seizures. It's called Dogs with Seizures support and help. It is becoming a real problem. Shame to lose a young dog that way.
