The beagle, Lucky, is our shelter dog, now about 8 years old, getting fat like his lame dad. The little black beauty is our daughter's pug, Minnie, also known as Maleficent when naughty, which is often as can be seen here.

My nic is Aelishdad. Aelish was the forever dog we all wish we could have. Her rescue pic on the old sofa is photo three.

Sorry you lost Aelish, a special dog. Glad you have the other two, with their own personalities.

I had to put Angus down today, he was too weak and showing that he was in pain. Poor old guy, I think he was 16 and until the last month he was in wonderful health. The last week I have been giving him water and trying to feed him watered down babyfood via an irrigation syringe. It wasn't enough.
He is buried on the fenceline by where the neighborhood cats cross because his self appointed duty was to chase them all off or fight with them if they wouldn't go. His vet file is full of treated abscesses from cat fights.
He was a good cat, weighed about 19 lbs at his biggest, and I essentially stole him from a neighbor 14 years ago.

Minky is my little black tom, and he adores Angus. They would try to strangle each other when wrassling in the yard. He wanted nothing more than to cuddle with Angus, and did as long as Angus would let him

Kindltot

So sorry you lost Angus. Beautiful cat. I'm sure Minky will miss him, too.

From Howard:

In April of this year we lost Rascal, our "good boy" and constant companion of the last fifteen years. He came to us at the age of about six months, showing up at our rural ranch door on Thanksgiving Day, with no collar, no tatoo, and no chip. A check with the local police and veterinarian revealed no reports of lost dogs. As a Labrador Retriever, Rascal quickly established a house rule: "samples of all food must be submitted to the Lab for testing".

For his first thirteen years with us, Rascal had another rescue dog as his closest friend. This was Rollie, a little black terrier-spaniel mix whom I had picked up from a roadside ditch. After placing him on the passenger side of the truck seat and taking my place in the driver's seat, Rollie crawled across the seat and put his head on my lap. Rollie was fifteen when he left us, two years ago.

The loss of Rascal is recent enough that we still reflexively look for him in accustomed places, and have split-seconds when we think we see him in a moving shadow. He will live on in our memories, with all of his predecessor dogs.

So sorry that you have lost your friend, Rascal. Thanks for sharing your memories.

* * *

Finally, the official AoSHQ Swiss Guide Dog takes us to Lenzerheide.

5 Kindltot,
So sad about Angus.

Lucy the Fink is getting extra loves these days.

Our fur friends are proof God loves us. We don't deserve them. And yet.

6 Finally got some good vid of Daisy the Malinois flat-out full-tilt running. Having trouble uploading it, though. My ATNT hotspot can be fast downloading (if I haven't exceeded my arbitrary max bytes), but uploading reminds me of a 1400bps acoustic modem. Musk's starlenhnk satellites are always going to cover our area "soon." #twoweeks

Anyway, yay pets. & Pet Morons.

25 I have a routine wherein the two elders (we have two pairs, the old couple 12-13yo and the younger ones more like 3) get walked every morning 530-615 because big boi demands it while the little ones go snuggle with mom) but today little boi wanted to go too. So I got to do three at 530.

A year ago I was carrying big boi around everywhere, coonhound paralysis. He's maybe not quite as strong as he was, or not as sure of himself, but doing fine for his age. And absolutely insistent on his mobility.

Ajax is an ACD. Ears never, ever droop. Always on point. Smartest dog by far I have ever had.

Yep, that's a Blue Heeler. Ajax is a Red Heeler (exact same dog, just has a red base coat with the same white ticking.) Although this little guy has one droopy ear. He's young.

Today is one year since Daisy moved in with us. She was maybe less than a year old then. Found running loose, collar, no tags, no chip. Wonderfully energetic and friendly — sometimes a little too energetic and friendly! Some signs she may have been mistreated in her previous life. Keeps me careful about disciplining her.

Much bigger and stronger now, and smarter. Loves to chase the ball, as you'd see if my video ever uploaded.

Didn't really realize what a magnificent beast she was until the first time I saw her flat-out full-tilt.

My dad owned racehorses and I considered them pets even though we weren't allowed to ride them.

Here's an interesting article from the Daily Mail-

A legend lives on! Fifty years after Secretariat stunned the world to become the greatest thoroughbred known to man, eight of his progeny are racing in the Kentucky Derby - including the favorite Forte.

Our little rat terrier was basically thrown out of a car in the central valley and lived behind a gas station for a month. Nasty little bastard when we got him . I bled so much. But didn't give up.

You would not now believe him the same dog. He's talkative to a fault, an absolute cuddle-bunny, and his bite-reflex at play is perfect. He has not put a hole in me in two years.

43 Great pets and sorry for those losses of Aelish, Angus and Rascal. Losing our furry friends is so very hard.

I like it when I meet people out with their friendly pets. Today I met a woman outside the PO near the church with two very furry whitish terrier pups of about eight weeks old. They were adorable. She said that she had lost a dog of of 14 years about four months ago. She said "My husband wanted this one"-and pointed to the one which was the darker of the two, "but I wanted this one"-the lighter of the two, so they took them both-which is good since they're siblings and can keep each other company.

44 Last night was the big car cruise in town. I thought Jake might enjoy seeing the action and I was right. We rode through town and Jake had his head out the back window taking it in. It's getting hot now and I won't be able to take him with me as often.

Stray cat considers this a major stop on his circuit in the neighborhood. I suspect my ex-neighbor left him. It's not feral. Came up to me in the front yard yesterday, meowing. I convinced him to go to the back porch where the food is. I am trying to figure out how to set up a safe hangout for him.

60 Is it my corgi only, or do other dogs go all fraidy cat after dark?

She is going to be 4 in December, and seems to have developed a fear of the wild things that come onto the property at night. We get deer, but she sees them in daylight and likely knows them by scent.

But there is black bear also, and maybe the occasional hog. This being SW FL, there might also be a gator, but the water is 100 feet away.

Anyhow, and it's with the windows open, she'll suddenly bark in a very loud "I'm afraid!" tone, wake us up, and keep it up for fifteen seconds or so.

This ain't the daylight bark'n'growl thing that means hey! get off my lot! It's amazing how a little 24 pound thing can growl so fiercely, but that happens when the deer sashay through.

But the night one is different. She get petrified when sniffing something strange.

68 A "feel good" story out of Churchill Downs just a few minutes ago;

Cody's Wish is named for Cody Dorman, a native of Richmond, Kentucky who was born with Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome. As a result of the syndrome, Dorman uses a wheelchair and communicates with a tablet. In 2018, while on a visit to Godolphin's Gainsborough Farm in Versailles sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Keeneland, Dorman met a young foal by Curlin who immediately interacted with Dorman and laid his head on Dorman's lap. The weanling would later be named Cody's Wish in Dorman's honor.

Cody's Wish won his race just now. Not the Derby, btw.
