Meet The PetMorons

chessie.jpeg

I'm just a very serious lurker. The sisters are Spice and Sugar. Sugar lived to be 17, Spice to 19. Next was Zeeva a shelter kitty who I always said was my "Siamese mutt"; she had the seal point coat and blue eyes but not the voice. The vet said was probably 16-17 years old when she passed. Now I am owned by Chessie the railroad kitty. Purebred Lynx Siamese who was surrendered to Austin Pets Alive because of her one white toe and crooked tail. She is a real lover.

You can call me ryobimike. First used that moniker on AOL in the early 90s LOL!

I'm starting to detect a theme in the appearance of these cats. They're all beautiful. It appears that Chessie is another studious MoronCat.

From Jewells:

Hope1y.jpg

This is Hope. She is a stray so we have no backstory. They estimate her age at 15. She has multiple problems including hip dysplasia, a growth on her mouth, she's deaf and has no teeth. Still, she's a sweet old thing and loves attention. I spent a lot of time with her last Wednesday and she ate up all the love!

Awww, Hope! We've had some dogs with some of those problems. She does look sweet.

sangriqia.jpg

Sangria's Big Day

She's ten months old now, and vet said it was time. She isn't happy with the cone but not too grumpy!

Lirio100

Those are some wide kitty eyes! Best wishes to Sangria for a quick recovery!

Miso and the Brood.jpg

&&&

PlainMarshmallow.jpg

I post as Sgt. Mom most places, and I have sent you pics of our various pet morons, notably Miso the white kitten disguised on the fake snow under the Christmas tree.

Well, Miso - barely eight or nine months old herself, had gotten out and had a brief romantic interlude with a handsome ginger tom. Our fault, since we didn't think she could go into heat without making a noisy business about it ... but anyway, in late January, Miso produced a litter of six kittens, whom my daughter nicknamed "The Marshmallows" - two Toasted Marshmallows, one Lightly Toasted, two Fluffy Marshmallows and one Plain Marshmallow. Miso allowed us to handle the kittens as soon as they were born (on the living room sofa, as it turned out - which fortunately had a washable cover.)

The Toasteds, the Lightly Toasted, and one of the Fluffies have all gone to their Forever Homes, and the other Fluffy is spoken for. But the Plain Marshmallow - a female white shorthair - is still available. She is charming, affectionate, and basically already human-oriented. She was the smallest and last-born of the litter. If there are any South Texas Morons - especially if they are writers - who would like to adopt a blue-eyed white kitten of an affectionate nature - let me know. (Pics of Miso and the litter on the last day they were all together, and of Plain Marshmallow are attached.)

"The Marshmallows"! And Miso!

A great opportunity for a lucky Moron to adopt a beutiful kitten. Let us know . . .

21 ryobimike--

I got a serious heart pang from looking at your beautiful Siamese. The year before I was born my mom got a seal point Siamese female she named Pooh Pooh. (The 1950s were a more innocent time.) Pooh Pooh and I were inseparable throughout my childhood. Most of the pictures I have of me include the cat. She died at the age of 20 when I was in college. (Interestingly, this all happened in Austin as well.)

She was a brave, smart, loving, dignified girl. I still miss her 50 years later.

36 We now have 9 dogs at Shep's so we're pretty much at capacity. It's a very small house! Thankfully Charlie, Roscoe, Lily, Maggie and Dutch are all integrated so they can hang out in the living room and kitchen area. Elmer and Mars and JJ are in the kennel and Hope is in the workroom. The goal is to get them all integrated but that doesn't always happen.

37 Afternoon, folken,

The kitten in the "Anti-Cat Suit" depiction looks much like Dagny Sophia the Siberian kitten!

The Siamese are gorgeous, Sangria is beautifully marked, and The Marshmallows are great. With sangria, the neck cone was necessary post-alteration to keep her from working the stitches out, I guess? Will I have to do the same to Dagny? Her time is soon, probably this month.

The skin of my left arm, the inner elbow, is roughened and a little reddened from Stirling's near-daily kneading and nuzzling. I don't want him to stop, but the claws are annoying. If I put a washcloth over the area, though, he won't work me. I guess I'll just keep putting some skin lotion on the area every day.

I can't believe people can do that, give up a good-natured healthy animal because of a couple of "flaws." Stirling the all-black cat had one white whisker as a small kitten; I used to tell him, "You need to lose that or back you go to the shelter at Vicksburg." But *of course* I didn't mean it! (He lost the whisker in middle kittenhood.)

Dagny's tail is shorter than it should be for her breed. But I didn't adopt her to show her or breed her, but to be my friend.

42 Sangria seems resigned to the cone now fortunately, she's got six more days. The first night she laid on the floor and kept hitting the cone against it--very good flopping fish impression. Today she's just moping quietly.

44 The vet who did the spay said ten days with a cone, and yes, it's to keep the cat from licking or picking at the incision/stitches. I was a little surprised at ten days, although if she's doing well they'll let her off with nine.

Over time, on small toys, yes. Bigger toys, not so much. I have a stuffed winged horse, a Pegasus, that once belonged to Mrs. Wolfus No. 2 as a child, and which Arizona the part-Maine Coon appropriated as his own. He'd carry it around in his mouth like a dead rat and tussle with it when he thought no one was looking. It's probably 50+ years old now, hasn't been played with by a cat since 1999, and while dingy, it's intact.

Stirling tore the dangly toy part from one of his cat toys-on-a-stick, though.

In the case of the late Angelique the blue-eyed tabby point Siberian, she found me in an empty parking lot on an August Saturday 20 years ago: came up crying, and eagerly leaped into my lap in the car. Clearly she was purebred and a lost pet, but newspaper ads and checking with local vets brought up nothing. She lived happily with Miss Linda for almost 10 years to the day and passed easily in her sleep at age 11 or so.

The shelters in RI get together twice a year and put on a mass adoption event. That's where I found Elvis.

There were over 300 dogs at the event. Puppies, older dogs, dogs with infirmities, the whole range. And almost every one of them got adopted.

I've had a lot of Goldens and they all came from good breeders. Loved every one of them but none of them more than Elvis. It baffles me why people throw away these beautiful gifts. Whatever love I show him comes back tenfold. The only flaw he has is I missed his first 6 months.

79 "Thanks, KT! Really enjoying the pics and anecdotes of the Moron pets. It's a lovely moment of grace in a difficult week. "

Yes it has been a difficult week and the pet pictures are so soothing. Makes me happy looking at them

81 Lovely pet thread!!! My cat is curled around my arm while I scroll, digging his claws in because he loves me. The fire hose suit would have been useful when we were bathing him yesterday.

18-1: definitely book a first class cabin. It isn't that much more expensive than coach, and you are much safer. Plus the amenities, like turn down and a porter checking on you, are rather nice! During the day, coach is fine. But don't take any risks when you are sleeping.

82 Also, polynikes we are his third owner. The first owner decided she didn't want him anymore after paying $500 for him because she was pregnant. Then a friend rescued him and kept him until my daughter could take him. But he's been with us for 8 years. Sweetest little boy on the planet!

89 41-- Wolfus -- Purebreds are not just donated to the Humane Society for the hell of it. They are bred to be shown and bred. Yes, one miniscule flaw makes the critter unshowable. But the breeders can't keep every animal they breed. The responsible ones make sure their pet quality animals are either spayed or neutered, and they try to find good homes for them.

When my Himalayan died, I called a Persian breeder I knew and asked her if she needed to clean anything out of her cattery. She was ecstatic, and I wound up with a chocolate tabby Persian with a pedigree King Charles would envy. But his ears are deformed. (No, he's not a fold; his ears only grew halfway.) He couldn't be shown and he can't be bred in case he would pass on those silly ears of his. But his buddy, the Little Wicked Witch of the West, did come from the Humane Society.
