I had internet problems and called my provider. I got a woman with a strong accent on the phone. Every time she spoke I heard loud screeching in the background.
I said--is that a ROOSTER??? She said--it is neighbor's rooster. It is morning in the Philippines.
She went on to try to solve my problem, but every time she spoke the rooster crowed. It sounded like it was in her lap. I was laughing so hard I couldn't talk, and she couldn't talk over the rooster.

H-E-B is the grocery chain of choice in TX...if one is near you. They just got to Lubbock last October and the word on the street is that they already have land purchased for another store there. And...possibly in Amarillo as well.
But, as I noted in #110 above, Charles Butt, who has been running the show for 50 years, is a big Dem contributor.
You are right on thin margins. A supermarket has to sell $1 of groceries to make a $0.01 profit.

If you pick up a sword, make sure you get a real one that's made out of carbon steel from a reputable manufacturer. The cheap, shiny stuff you see in most stores is made out of stainless steel; they are brittle and not remotely usable as intended.

I trained for a few years with the Gentleman who is the number one Rapier fighter in the world right now.
Had to give up tournaments because my elbow tendons could not take it anymore. Throwing full speed extended thrusts is like a Fast Ball pitcher throwing 100 MPH fast balls, with something a whole lot heavier.

I haven't followed the sword game in a few years but I think you're looking at about $250 for a basic longsword or rapier, $500 for a good one, and up to a couple thousand for something really special. Japanese stuff tends to be either really cheap or really expensive, not much middle ground. Note that MSRP is usually at least 50% more than what the retailers and distributors actually sell them for.

That's unfortunate. I've been eyeballing a couple of rapiers over the years but never got around to buying them. The last time I bought a bunch of swords was right before Hanwei's factory burned down and everyone's prices suddenly doubled; I've got a sinking feeling that all this money-pumping is going to cause some INSANE inflation in the next three years so I should probably see about converting some more paper into steel.

Depends on the price. I know a guy who's into buying absolute shitpile Jeeps for a couple hundred dollars and then fixing/modding them extensively. So, yeah, for the right price I'd consider a postal LLV as a garage project. And by right price I mean $200.

So, upgrading a Postal Jeep would require at least a new transmission, transfer case, front differential, maybe changing steering to left side control. ALL of the suspension and brakes would have to be changed, from the frame rails down. And the interior "comforts" in those are straight up 1960s finest. The sliding doors on those are also drafty, noisy and not all that weather tight. For all that though? They work GREAT on farm & ranch as a non-road titled utility goat.

I've noted this before, but one of the best lessons I learned as a young lad was the value of unions. In this case, the unions drove Kroger from San Antonio and Austin.
See, back around late 1992/early 1993 the chain had stores in both cities. H-E-B was squeezing them pretty good in terms of competition. Kroger decided to talk to the unions about wage freezes/cuts, until such time that the situation improved. And most of the unions, seeing the writing on the wall and not wanting to commit business suicide, signed on. All, that is, but the meat cutters. They would not budge and decided to take the adversarial approach to Kroger. They didn't strike, but they flat refused to do anything to help the situation because Kroger is evl and greedy, you see.
So, after some months of this, Kroger just said "fuckit" and had all their stores closed. By the end of August 1993, they left the area.

I know gas was easily had for $1.90 a gallon even six months ago. Now you are lucky to find it for $2.20, and the stations in nice areas charge $2.60. I see just decent steak going for $20 at the store, to small cuts. Even Ground beef is $14.00 for the equivalent of two or three burgers. No way we don't have inflation.
I won't predict the stock market but sometimes the market goes up during rising inflation. As prices for goods rise, the same can happen for stocks. And the one thing I do know is all the big players are all in on Biden. It wouldn't look good for them to tank the market right after he wins.

That's sad. My grandfather and H. E. But were good friends and deacons together at First Baptist Church in San Antonio. During the Depression, they would drive a panel truck down to the Rio Grande Valley and bring back vegetables and fruits to sell to stores.
I vaguely knew some of the Butz family because of the amount of time I spent in San Antonio as a child.

that has not been my experience. We have owned their pillows for over a decade. I get a flying in the mail from time to time but it is no big deal. My email gets so much spam I never really look at that stuff to be honest.

I don't doubt they spam people. I haven't ordered from them in many years but we have used their products for well over a decade. It is a good pillow but they can wear out.
It was a long time ago but if I recall correctly we ordered by phone. To each his own but if I wanted one I would order by phone and tell them they are not going to get an email, take it or leave it.

However, we're all out of federalists who are actually in power. That's like saying that the ultimate strategy for anything is the solution challenged by the people out of power and not too popular.
I thought that a bright spot for Trump for Democrats is that they might decide that federalism is a good idea. But they have shown that they prefer outright state revolt when out of power in Washington, and fascism when in.
There's no principle to it, except "We're going to tell everybody under us what to do".
So federalism might work if conservatives get far enough into the power to change it, but we've just seen what a handful of blue states can do to a country, in both the lockdown and elections.
I don't think that the preference of a group of people out of power--and perhaps without a party *can be* "the solution" until it's even "okay" to disagree with The Party.
