The Morning Rant

talking ape.jpg

"So, during the CNN Climate Change Town Hall Meeting, every single one of the Democratic presidential candidates pretty much pledged themselves to the destruction of the energy economy of America. They were falling all over themselves and each other into supporting every cockamamie energy idea ever thought up by imbeciles: punitive carbon taxes, stop all fracking, close all of the coal mines, and shut down oil refineries. Kamala Harris thinks the government should tell us what to eat and what straws to use.. Bernie wants there to be fewer brown people.

"You can't make this stuff up. They actually got up in front of a TV camera and said these things. If I was an SNL writer trying to write a parody of the Democrats, I'd reject this for being too ridiculously exaggerated. Granted, it was CNN, so you know everyone else was watching 'My Mother the Car' reruns on Nick at Night, but still, I'm starting to think this was a stunt pulled by some hitherto unknown genius prankster deep down inside the GOP to see how big a fool he could trick the Dems into making of themselves. And aside from the miniscule audience, it looked like the prank was a spectacular success. All the Dems now look like a bunch of raving lunatics who want to hurt America. If our media was even within shouting distance of being honest, the Democrats would be finished as a national party."

16 Woke-up this morning felling tired, worn-out. Dragged my carcass out of bed and to the shower, and was confronted by the image of a pale North American Land Whale in the mirror. Been noticing that my clothes, which fit quite comfortably 3-4 months ago, are now, once again, uncomfortably snug.

Decided I'm sick and tired of feeling like a sick, tired land whale. Starting the Keto program today. Just for today. Will see how I feel tomorrow - could be time for a 3-day fast. Probably overdue, actually.

Shitstorms are coming on multiple fronts. Land Whales won't survive.

All other countries have inferior potassium

Kazakhstan, home of Tinshein swimming pool

Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan, you very nice place
From plains of Tarashek to northern fence of Jewtown
Kazakhstan friend of all except Uzbekistan
They very nosey people, with bone in their brain

Kazakhstan, industry best in world

Except of course for Turkmenistan's

You have to look at it from these Dems' perspective:
-- It is a fight to save the planet from the people who are threatening with their various "bad" habits
-- That means they are siding with the planet against people
-- Making power more expensive means they'll use less (punishing the enemy); same applies to meat-eaters, frackers, etc.

They are fighting *us* to save the planet.

They also last time I looked permitted use of really nasty artificial sweeteners with minimal or no labeling requirements.

If cane sugar is bad enough, and HFCS is worse, then most of the fabricated stuff is Satanic.

I had a bottle of Mexican Squirt the other day. I loved it. But I'm used to going without soda now, though I consume a gallon of lime fizzy-water a day.

Given a CO2 tank and some fittings and a couple liter-size bottles, you can readily make your own for just about nothing, but you have to have room to refrigerate the water before you carbonate it and it's mortal combat with my wife to try to get enough refrigerator space to do this, so I still end up buying a lot of it.

What area are you in? Is your city/state/ whatever fiscally solvent? How close are you to retirement? The farther from retirement, the more likely you'll get screwed.

Also... do you want a challenge? If you're older and closer to retirement, maybe you don't. Maybe you don't need to move forward at this point n your career. However, if you are on the younger end of the scale, maybe you want to move up, have a challenge and potentially make more money.

Finally, which will make you happiest?

Public-sector pensions aren't going anywhere. They'll liquidate everyone else's private 401k's to pay for public-sector pensions if they have to.
For your situation it all depends on the money. Will you enough more to offset the loss of the pension? Is your public-sector job essential? I.E. if we have a massive Depression is your public-sector gig still going to be there? Odds are the private-sector one won't.

153 Willowed:
"Gun control" has nothing to do with controlling guns and it never has.

"Gun control" is simply the latest example of the standard 3 phase game
plan of bigots:

1. Identify a group the bigots want to feel superior to.

2. Demonize the group as dangerous through propaganda.

3 Take away the rights of the group through bigoted Jim Crow style "laws".

This is how bigots attacked Blacks, American Indians, Italians, and
Japanese Americans... the list goes on and on. Law abiding gun owners
are simply the latest group being attacked by bigots.

Bigots are the bottom 10% of humanity, and as such, suffer from
Dunning-Kruger false confidence that they are right, when, in fact, they
have no actual solutions to anything and hope to prevail simply through
the pure viciousness of their attack.

"Gun Control" is a "Jedi mind control trick" designed to get people to
focus on objects and not notice that what is really going on is the
bigoted suppression of a group of people's rights.

Benefits and proximity to retirement.

This is one area where I think we're getting it wrong in this country, there are a lot of 'health insurance slaves' who are, for health-history or family reasons tied to their job because they'd never get tolerable coverage elsewhere.

I don't want to see single-payer, but I do want to see health coverage somehow separated from employment, and if restaurants and hotels can be required to post their prices then so can healthcare providers.

Dragged my carcass out of bed and to the shower, and was confronted by
the image of a pale North American Land Whale in the mirror. Been
noticing that my clothes, which fit quite comfortably 3-4 months ago,
are now, once again, uncomfortably snug.

Decided I'm sick and

257 Gov workers are partially vested at 3 years. And it increases as they have more time. At my old company you were "vested" after 15 years but you at to work for at least 30 years and be over 55 to retire "early". And that is pretty much the same everywhere.

My company? Fully vested after 5 years.

I'm in New York, which is about as far from fiscally solvent as a state can be this side of Illinois and California. I have a long way to go 'til I'm eligible to retire as well.

I know politicians in Illinois have floated taxing 401k's to pay for their state pensions, and if that ever happens, NY will be right on their heels.
Posted by: What's a Seawolf? at September 06, 2019 11:32 AM (k76MH)

In that case, I'd say, "take the private-sector job, and use the refunded State pension money as the nut to start your own 401k."

And if the the private sector job offers the potential for you to bail out of NY, and moved to a lower tax State, so much the better.

283 Check out California's 3%-at-50 'public safety' worker retirement. You'd be quite entertained at who qualifies as a 'public safety' worker, and it's basically 20 years service and age 50 and you're set for life.

This was one of those 'act in haste, repent in leisure' situations that almost seemed reasonable at the time, but wherein the labor-left took advantage of one of those crises that may not be allowed to go to waste.

In the dotcom boom you could get $45-50K (guessing) as an Oakland PD recruit or you could get $60K+ plus a nonqual option package vesting in three years, potentially worth millions, in a deskbound admin job requiring no particular tech skills at Cisco or similar*. I think by 2000 there were PDs in the state that were offering $80K to start.

So local and state government, by the time you factored in the higher numbers and the earlier retirement ages, basically doubled pensions. Make the next generation figure out how to pay for it.

Then the dotcom bubble croaked, at least for a decade, but public pension and compensation stayed where it was.

* Riskier pre-IPO firms carried a premium over that, I know a couple, he was a low-level HR type and she was a supermarket clerk, they both took jobs at one pre-IPO networking startup that exploded at their IPO and a couple years post-offering they were building their 5000sf slash-and-burn house in Los Altos and paying cash.

Right now, IL doesn't tax Soc Sec or pensions. If they begin taxing pensions, that would hit state govt retirees right where it hurts (retired legislators too). That is the very constituency that wields power in IL DEM circles.

I think they will tax income "on the rich 1%," & businesses (again) before they turn to pensions.

331 for all of you calling bullshit to polls saying Americans of all political stripes favor universal background checks for all gun sales:
.....
American voters support 94 - 4 percent requiring background checks for all gun buyers. Gun owners support universal background checks 90 - 9 percent.

92% for Rep voters

https://tinyurl.com/y3b8a8c5
....
While Republicans are very much against gun control laws (Support-=30%, Oppose=62%), they very much favor (89%) requiring background checks for all gun buyers.

https://tinyurl.com/c6znooc

.......
Look at Table POL4_1 on page 35 on this one for the crosstabs:

https://tinyurl.com/y5slxzm7

73% of conservatives "Strongly" support requiring background checks for all gun sales. 16% "Somewhat Support"

It really looks like the DeepState globalists work with the FedReserve to arrange their bailouts for bad banks, and move us toward Globalist control. This chart shows rates have come down since 1980, but they raise them at key times, then they get the bank bailouts for billionaires (SL, TARP). They raised at the end of Bush, set up for Obama, then gave Obama "the store" with ZIRP and QE and made the global banks (the ones that caused trouble) bigger than ever. As soon as Trump gets in ... "OK, now lets raise and reverse the QE (QT), our commie globalist stooge is out".

On average, nearly three homeless people are dying daily in [LA]he county, nearly double the rate of deaths by homicide. Illness, addiction, accidents, suicide and the ravages of being unsheltered are among the primary causes of death.

"We know the research says that people who are what's called rough sleepers, those who are living on the streets and not in a shelter or a car, are 10 times more likely to die than the regular population," said Dr. Susan Partovi, citing a study in Boston. Partovi has been administering to homeless people in Los Angeles for years.

The average age of the first 666 homeless people who died in L.A. County as of Aug. 25 was 51, well below the county's average life expectancy of roughly 80. Homeless people are dying on sidewalks, along riverbeds, and in tents, parks, shelters, vehicles, motels and hospitals. . .

My son has dextrocardia, and it's always a good test of who's read his file before checking him out - they'll put the stethoscope on the left side of his chest and make a face. Hubby will point to the right side and say "All the action's on that side."

IIRC*, previous versions of the heart surgeries he's received resulted in collateral vessels developing in the left arm such that it messed with things like blood pressure cuffs. Apparently that was entertaining for the patients to see the reaction to unknowing nurses.

These channels are not what they portray themselves as. They pose as news and opinion sites, and while the news part is mostly a joke that's not what I mean.

They're safe spaces for lefties. They are a comforter for the left to hide under, somewhere they can go to run away from Bad Orange Man and how awful life is.

Its not just helicopter parents and snowflake upbringing that makes them this way. They actually do know what its like to fail, on a small scale: they play a lot of video games. But every time they fail, they get to reload, ressurrect, have another life, heck there's even cheat codes, pulling up the console.

They want that cheat code. They want to restart the game. Trump won and they only know one way failure works: you get to do it again until you win.

433 that's one of many problems with all the fed disaster relief -- it encourages people to build in vulnerable areas, because the rest of us will be forced to pay the "insurance coverage" when something bad happens. Especially with the coasts, where the richest live, they need taxes to cover catastrophic insurance.

Instead they get $60B for BigSandy, funded by the rest of us ... and most of the money disappears into the connected/corrupt pockets. Then we bailout Puerto Rico, now the Bahamas demand we fix them, but they loved their "independence" ... and all those tourist dollars.

But it is "for the children". Except the massive debt is piled up against ALL children, and unsustainable debt is turning us into a commie state by proxy of monetary policy. The children all own a half million before they are born, to fund what politicians have promised, but stolen.

Dude, honestly - the f*ck is your problem?

You pepper every thread with these little headlines. And if any commenter expresses the smallest bit of skepticism about how things will turn out, you immediately go ad-hominem and call them names and insult them.

Most of us would love to see the deep state in deep doo-doo. Some say nothing will happen. Some say some things will happen but not enough. Some are optimistic the whole cabal will go down. But you act like there are no gradations between. You immediately dump all over anyone who calls things into question.

Your act is getting tiresome.

THaHN made a better movie than it did a book, or so I recall, not having re-read it in a bunch of years. There's another version of the same basic story (boat captain being hired to haul some people somewhere by night) with John Garfield. I need to look it up.

Its better than the real alternative which is taxpayers 100% bail out people whose houses get flooded when they hadn't paid a cent into a special insurance pool. I hope that we are sending a Navy hospital ship and maybe send in the Army Corp of Engineers to help rebuild some infrastructure for them, but hopefully the bulk of aid will come from groups like Samaritans Purse. 464 459: and why should the taxpayer be on the hook when some addict ends up needing 100K of medical treatment? It is not a question of Should, Congress critters WILL be 'compassionate' with other people's money.

Flood insurance programs at least remind folks it is a flood zone. It is the disaster relief monies that bail out folks and (mostly) cities who took no precautions that are the more evil in my book, and its not so much that helping out a city that got devastated by a 100 or 500 year natural disaster is bad, its just that the people whose money is getting spent don't get to decide whether they are pitching in because "that could have happened to anyone or anyplace" or NO "you were irresponsible twits and this town, or house should not be rebuilt, and if it is, I'm not going to be a party to it"

465 Claire Trevor was also in "Allegheny Uprising" and "The High and the Mighty", both with John Wayne. She had top billing in "Stagecoach" because she was the top name of the cast at that time. Now I have the theme from "The High and the Mighty" stuck in my head.

466 we also defend those islands for free, really ... same with Mexico and Central America ... they return the favor by being a narco state and having their 2nd biggest "industry" being money illegals make in the US and send as subsidy to their families to survive corrupt Mexico.

The other bad side of all the "remittances", is "they didn't build that", which really does apply to foreigners coming here and taking jobs from locals, then sending the income that should circulate in the community that "built that" infrastructure, sending it to subsidize the failed states Mexico/Guatemala. The foreign invasion short circuits the local economy, props up the corruption of the narco states. (and patriotic complainers must be murdered by Pelosi's MS13 pals)

469 to 16. Just a comment. I did Keto for months, lost 18 lbs then platued. got tired of no pasta or pizza. Now doing juicing 3 time a week and regular, moderate portions the rest of the week and continued to lose weight. Good luck with the Keto. It generally worked for me.
