NYT: Twitter Experiencing Worldwide Disruptions

People around the world began to regain access to Twitter on Tuesday after several hours of sporadic disruptions in its global operations that had left many of its 300 million users without access to the social network.

50 from the last thread:

But that's still compensated eminent domain. The "public use" in this case being rather flimsy, hence the lawsuit.

But,

if the government grabbing stuff is the issue, it would seem

uncompensated situations like bond cram downs and outright property

gnofing without reasonable judicial restraint in property forfeiture

cases would be the place to draw the line in the sand.

But again, not my battle.

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 19, 2016 10:59 AM (kdS6q)

If
you look at some of the takings they have done on Long Island you would
not call it "compensated". In one case I saw they paid a guy $20,000
for a one acre lot with 150 foot of water frontage. Of course he sued.

In
Kelo they took the property to give it to someone else who was a crony.
And then it was never used. It was outright theft and blatantly
unconstitutional,

What folks don't realize... is that the Revolutionary Guard, which is the guys who actually captured our Sailors, are hard liners, and barely in control...

I could easily see Kerry calling Iran saying "hey, great photo op, will really help quiet down internal politics and make it easier to give you your money.... help out a bro their Ayatollah'...

Then Ayatollah Assaholea calls the Guard to go 'help' as they are the closest.... but the Guard are true believers.... and do the videos, take the SIM cards (which would have tracking info on it)... and we suddenly have videos of US Servicemen and WOMEN on their Knees...

110 I want to see '13 Days' but don't know if my outrage meter can take it.

I recently watched 'Mexico's Secret Drug War' which is a British made documentary on operation Fast & Furious. The whistleblowers and retired agents of FBI, ATF, and the main gun dealer in AZ talk about the operation and the corruption and lies coming out of this administration about what was really going on.

The gun dealer who thought that he was helping his country by fighting against the drug cartels put it this way -

"I learned quickly that there is a big difference between serving your country or serving your government. I would gladly die to serve my country - I wouldn't walk across the street for my government."

Compensated may not be "fairly" compensated, but that's a relative value
judgement and quite different from "uncompensated".

Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at January 19, 2016 11:15 AM (kdS6q)

I would deem that when you pay someone $20,000 for land that you are taking and it is really worth multiple millions it is uncompensated. And if I am not mistaken the judge agreed and stuck the government with paying what the real estate estimates said it was worth.

And as I said, KELO undermined private property which is the keystone to freedom. We lost the US that day they ruled.

He wore a green aviation type of uniform that did not match any of the Type III uniforms worn by the other sailors. There was an ID patch his left side and no rank insignia. He had a tattoo on his right arm that appeared to be a dagger. He appeared older than the others and didn't interact like the others.

He did not smile and laugh like the other sailors did. He was not in the photos where the other sailors were captured on their knees.

I'm curious if he was actually a part of the CORIVRON I crew? DIA? Or perhaps he was not captured with the CORIVRON crew, but was previously captured by the Iranians and covertly returned to the U.S. with the others?

So many questions.

The UMC has not declared that as far as I know. It could be in the Book oF Resolutions of part of a Social Action Committee, Unless it's in the Book Of Discipline which is voted on by clergy and delegates and changed by General Conference every four years of the entire worldwide UMC it's not binding.

182 No, not really, There's a whole contingent of lefties that identify with the evangelical church that have been causing for trouble for a few decades.

Late 19th and early 20th century socialist activism came largely from these sort of churches; the social gospel. They were the ones that pushed for welfare, social security, shorter work week, minimum wage, ban on alcohol, etc. It was all based on enforcing morality using government power with a few Bible verses thrown in to justify it.

Subject to the standing issue, this is an easy case to affirm. For DAPA, Obama didn't issue an executive order or even an executive action. He had the head of DHS issue a memorandum that created an entire new regulatory regime. Put aside that this new regime is in conflict with existing law. Jeh Johnson's doing this didn't comply with the Administrative Procedure Act. It's clearly wrong.

As to standing, if 26 states don't have standing here then no one does.

My denomination, the Christian Reformed Church, is doing the same thing. Every organization that does not constantly and consciously work to avoid going leftward, eventually will. The sin of mankind corrupts all we do. Basically, the most enthusiastic and loudest, rudest, and most insistent lefties end up taking over position after position and arguing from emotion and good will rather than truth and reality, until their opponents die or give up.

Eventually, even though the church I attend is very faithful, I'll have to leave the denomination if it keeps along the path is is on now: being led by culture rather than being salt and light.

You're right there. And to totally steal a quote, "We must redefine Progress to mean that just because we can do a thing, it doesn't mean we must do that thing." We have to challenge their narratives about what progress is, and do more to offer our vision of what a better society is and how to get there more than we do.

Of course, I was not allowed to go, because someone might see me going into a movie theater. I am glad those days are largely behind us, and we focus on the heart and our love for God more than rules and regulations. And btw, now I go to church in a movie theater. Irony. 252 Apparently some people feel so strongly about Ted Cruz that they are emailing his one-time college roommate faulting him for not killing Cruz when he could.

Screenwriter Craig Mazin and the future Republican presidential candidate were paired together as freshmen at Princeton in 1988. And Mazin has never forgotten it.

Nor does he make any secret of loathing Cruz. He delights in tweeting embarrassing details about his roommie's hygiene, his problems with women and his general creepiness.

And Trump is the kind of guy who will hold them to their vote, too.

Good point.

It'd be fun to start a ban list, beginning with every police and government official who covered up the abuse in Rotherham and elsewhere.

George Bernard Shaw was an asshole. He pretended to be a friend to Gene Tunney, World Heavyweight Champ in the Twenties, so that he could potentially use Tunney as a character study for one of his plays. Tunney thought of Shaw as a father figure, and was flattered the famous playwright would take him seriously.

Truth is, Shaw didn't. Shaw was just curious in a kind of cold, scientific way howa working classkid of a longshoreman like Tunney could make himself a millionaire with only an eighth grade education and his.fists.

Like I said, an asshole.

Remember that according to Christ, a prayer in a closet is more his style than praying in the street to show off your piety. You don't need a formal denomination, as long as you read the book and believe.

I gave up searching for one after not being able to find anything that particularly appealed to me in my locality, but I don't think that's made me a raging heretic. The Church isn't a building, it's every Christian everywhere, whether you kneel, sit, or jump and sing.

Me, too. I never thought she was perfect or above criticism, but she was a breath of fresh air after an entire lifetime of having female politicians like Hillary Clinton pushed on me as the ultimate representative of women. She is a woman who has embraced and enjoyed being a woman, not a harpy intent on being a better man than male politicians. She is a happy, normal person who is comfortable in her own skin. The anti-Hillary if there ever was one.

Looks to be a lose-lose to me. The SCOTASS already declared barky's first "Executive law" order for illegals to be illegal and for him to stop and all he did was ramp it up. And nothing happened to him. SO I can't see how any other decisions coming out of the SCOTASS can have any good effect.

Further, knowing this, the SCOTASS is more than likely to decide in Barky's favor so as to not embarrass themselves with him spitting in their face, again.

420 the S(ampersand)W M1917 revolver had a ridge in the chamber to allow .45ACP to index on the case mouth. A lot of S(ampersand)W revolvers had that feature. I think it originally had to do with making sure the .38 longs wouldn't blow up the .38 short revolvers

Steel cased ammo could peen that rim down and cause some issues by restricting the chamber.

Also, you really did want to use the half- or full-moon clips because if the fired cases expanded like they were supposed to you wound up having to poke the brass out with a stick.

Maybe Trump asked.

Cruz, on the other hand, may have some Ace-like advisors whispering in his ear that her Alaskan snowbilly accent will embarrass the campaign somehow.

They've probably got Mike Castle on speed dial.

477 329 Ruger's new 9mm is a different story.
Are you talking about the 9mm Vaquero?? 9mm Luger in a revolver?? WHY??? Round Hole. Square Peg.
How about a .38 Special in semi auto?? Does not compute. Posted by: fixerupper at January 19, 2016 12:03 PM (8XRCm)

Ha, no--but I can see how you thought that, given the first comment about revolvers.

I was talking about Ruger's 9mm pistol in the "American" series. I looks interesting.

Perhaps a week ago. Daytime I believe.

480 "And as I said, KELO undermined private property which is the keystone to freedom. We lost the US that day they ruled."

Wait, is that the same Kelo decision Trump thinks was great but it doesn't matter because he's agitating the establishment?

483 I saw a story over at the dailymail about a location used in the new Batman Vs superman movie. I knew I'd seen the house before only in better condition. It is the Ransom Gillis mansion. Not news but kinda cool since it likely would never have been restored if the filmmakers had not invested money in it for safety and filming purposes.
