2 Good Morning Morons. Today is Sunday, December 27, 2015. On this day in 1927 Show Boat, considered to be the first true American musical play, opened at the Ziegfeld Theatre on Broadway. This is where the song Old Man River originated. That is one of my favorite songs.

6 After being burglarized six times a wheelchair bound man in ME bought a gun shot and wounded an intruder. After which his landlord issued an eviction notice because, evidently, the apartment complex is a "gun free target zone". No wonder he has been burglarized six times. He is suing the landlords.

7 I am not sure if I agree with this assessment by Fox News:

The Rev. Franklin Graham quitting the Republican Party poses a significant blow to the GOP's 2016 White House aspirations, especially if other evangelical pastors follow suit and their millions-plus congregations stay away from the polls.

Could this be some "backdoor" approach to pushing RINO Rubio? But I do know one thing; there are a lot of people leaving the Republican Party because it has become evident that they do not give a shit for the conservative base.

9 I take issue with this statement by Fox's Chad Pergram on RINO Ryan and his potential problems as SOH.

Already, there are catcalls from the far-right that Ryan is the same as Boehner. Or maybe worse than Boehner.

There is a lot of crap in here that says the party will lose if Trump gets the nomination. And what is this "far right" BS? It is the conservative base that is taking issue with his and the RNCe's sellout to the Democrats. What he needs to do is stand up and fight like he has a pair.

I agree with her wholeheartedly. I have spent the last two days trying to get my two new Sandisk MP3 players to work. I finally went to their site and downloaded "new" firmware (even though it was the same version as what was already installed. That appears to have fixed it but I haven't fully tested them yet. When crap doesn't work right out of the box new something is wrong.

I agree with you too Vic. I am still using a six year old Android HD Maxx phone...with a cracked screen. I use a good "screen protector" instead of clear tape, to hold it together.

This phone, when used in side by side comparisons to its competition, has a much better antenna, and receives 4GLTE better than iPhone. My only internet access is through a mobile Hotspot, and this phone always performs great. I stream a ton of stuff, without a hic-up...

And if I need to replace it I can buy a brand new one just like it for about $170!

37 Yesterday's meetup at Grandma's old house with all my cousins and extended family was great. Even all the dogs got along. We call it Grandma Ruby's house because during the depression they lived in an 8 X10 tent for two years until Grandpa Wade could saw enough timber to build her a house in his spare time. He used to joke about how it had a dirt floor but it was clean because Grandma mopped it every week. Dad said you could see stars through the tent roof and he wasn't joking.

His old phone is 10 or 15 years old. I doubt if he will be able to find another like it. I have been considering putting in a repeater up in a tree close by the camp house and seeing if we can get service then.

The other thing that is bad out at that lake house is if you forget to turn your phone off it will sit and search continuously for a tower signal until it runs the battery stone dead.

Those of us that are true conservatives here in SC are starting to feel like we have no legislators on our side anymore. Gowdy was our last best hope. I don't know exactly when Trey went off the reservation, but for a few years, he did us proud.

43 Just get yourself a thrown-away parabolic reflector (antenna) ... like an old Dish Network thing. Experiment a little to find your sweet spot for your location in the woods and then set your phone in front of that. You can also make a reflector really easily. The same tinfoil, like the stuff I use for my head, and a little bit of heavy construction paper and some glue or tape can be used to make a nice cross-section of a parabola.

The repeater sounds like a good idea. If it turns out to be cost prohibitive though, you might see if someone you know has an Android Razor HD Maxx you can try out there. If it works, they are fairly inexpensive on EBay, and will give you service where a lot of newer phones won't...just an option to consider.

Those repeaters are not that expensive. The only problem will be getting one that is weather proof that I can mount in a tree and then getting up in the tree. I am getting to be a little long in the tooth for climbing in trees now.

I was thinking about that. Will the tree provide good line of sight, and win the leaves interfere with the signal. Those concerns, combined with the climbing and weather proofing bit lead me to make a suggestion. Would one of those aluminum, 25' tall collapsible flag poles work? It could be placed out in the open, and you could keep the repeater safe in the cabin when you weren't there. I have one that I mounted a solar powered light on top of to illuminate my flags, and it is easy to collapse and erect as needed. I mine is five, six foot sections, leaving plenty of height after a boring it in a four foot post hole.

53 Parental advice needed!

I am up this early on a Sunday b/c my 24-year-old went out to a movie and then to a bar with friends to celebrate her birthday last night and isn' t home yet and hasn't texted or called and I'm freaking out. It's 6:00 a.m. here. We can track her to the movie theater because she used her credit card to buy snacks, but after that, nada. We were really hoping to see an Uber on there somewhere. Her phone still rings four times before going to voicemail, so it's still powered up. She probably crashed at one of her friend's apartments, but how long do you wait before you go psycho parent and start beating down doors? It's made me realize we know jack shit about how to contact her friends as adults. We could call their parents, I guess. Daughter is usually pretty good about letting us know where she is, which is all we really want. Which brings me back to: I'm freaking out.

54 Interesting article in WP (via Drudge) on techno-skeptics. What caught my eye was that one of the leading proponents of unplugging is Jaron Lanier, one of the fathers of virtual reality. I remember seeing his blonde-dreadlocked visage in mags (maybe Omni and/or Smithsonian) optimistically touting it as an adjunct to the real world, not a replacement, saying virtual reality will never be able to compete with actual reality for beauty and depth and detail. I agreed with him. My sister said Ha!, if I got the chance to live in FantasiaLand I'd waste away to nothing.

He strikes me as being an individualist and I remember the cybernauts thinking the internet was gonna bring The Man down, but instead we're being caught up in the sticky threads of the web.

71 Good morning all.

From this date in 1943, near Mignano, Italy.

Dec 27, 1943 - The EZ Dog Journals
Increased enemy shelling - still not heavy. Patrol action only. Cold and windy.
Gen Wells, Ordnance, and entourage of Lt Cols and Cols visited CP, then went to 936 positions and 2 Obs sound and flash CPs. "C" Co 894 came forward into position.

CP = Command Post
936 = 936th Field Artillery Battalion
2 Obs = 2nd Field Artillery Observation Battalion
C Co 894 = C Company of the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion

"Sound and flash" refers to artillery techniques for locating enemy artillery positions by triangulating the sound of actual cannon fire (using microphone arrays) and by azimuth and map plotting of visually detected muzzle flash. The locations identified by these techniques would then be relayed to Fire Control Center for plotting of counterbattery fire.

A deadly game of cat-and-mouse that was at the center of Dad's duties here and a few weeks from now when he was transferred to Anzio.

100 @87

It should be obvious to anyone that the GOP is actively trying to lose the House and Senate.

I knew the game was on when right out of the gate their very first act after being given the largest number of representatives and senators in generations based solely on the fact that they campaigned exclusivly on stopping and reversing Obama and the democrats agenda, their very first act was to increase the amount of money Wall Street fat cats can donate to campaigns, and not what they campaigned on.

And given opportunity after opportunity to fight, they have retreated and surrendered.

And now that we have at least two GOP candidates that
want to fight and actually advance a conservative agenda, GOPe attacks them and not Obama and the democrats.

The fact that GOPe is not co-opting Trumps message is telling indeed.

The whole Italian campaign was a bit of a miscalculation. But, Uncle Joe was demanding a Second Front and a jump up front North Africa was the most possible logistically even if not strategically.

112 "crowd of people met a heavy police presence outside of Towson Town

On the opening day of the April Baltimore riot season, we were eating dinner about a block from that Mall when they suddenly closed it down.

Police Intel had three vehicles coming up from the city with intent to enter, and bring the Mondawmin
Mall experience to Towson. All three were intercepted, with two vehicles stopped at roadblocks, each containing stolen property from the Mondawmin Mall looting, and the third vehicle losing control on southbound York Rd after a high speed dash back to the City line, and stopping after shearing off a utility pole. Also full of looted property from the City festivities.

There are hundreds of millions in development funds riding on a (Historic) SoDoSoPa development plan for downtown Towson, including, believe it or not, a brand new Whole Foods, and The Lofts at Kenny's Place.

I might have made up that last part.

152 Anyone know how an "X" is pronounced in Swedish?

****

Exactly like the "X" in Swahili, only slightly more guttural and with a diphthong at the end.

154 This is the reason the Party has to die-- it's gone
bad, the only job it does now is to eliminate opposition with the
progressive collective /money train.

Posted by: Pappy O'Daniel at December 27, 2015 08:45 AM

This applies to BOTH parties, Pappy. Or both halves of the Uniparty, if you prefer.

The old days of political motives behind every move are long gone. What we're experiencing now is 535 individuals all seeking personal power and Big Money. Principles? Not so much.

It is the reason I believe all of them have to go. Most should probably do some jail time, and all should be forever barred from holding any public office. Certainly the so-called "leadership" need to be sent to Orange-Jumpsuit Land.

166 Ryan should note he is only speaking for his fellow RINO congress critters when he says "that's not who we are". They clearly don't speak for the majority, when they fund open borders treasonous garbage.

And they lie about what Trump said, the lie of omission. They nearly always say he wants to close reject all Muslims. But of course it was clear all that is in light of the 100,000 that Obama wants, despite acknowledgement that they can in no way be vetted. We can't even vet them when they openly proclaim they will kill us, or like the Tsarnaev brothers that had traveled to a terrorist zone, and we had warnings from other states.

And Trump clearly said a pause till we find out what the hell is going on ... which I think was partly a jab at "what is going on with Obama that he tells our investigators to stand down so these terrorists can come in, then screams at Americans for being haters. Trump said their would be exceptions, as he knows some business would have to be conducted.

But who the founders were, were WASPs almost entirely. The nation was not meant to be an open border refuge for the third world, especially not those from a religion/army intent on infiltrating conquering. And that's not just Islam, but the Mexican cartels, and various "mafias".

Saw Pastor Robert Jeffress on Fox a couple days ago - he said Evangelicals are on board with Trump if he were to get the nomination; their top two are Cruz and Trump. It was a pretty good interview, surprising to say the least.

169 There is nothing so un-Jesuslike as Christians on or around December 25. Smug, rude, self-righteous, condescending and inordinately prideful of their own imagined humility.

This is the year I renounce the last of it all -- the snowflake and the yule log, Nutcracker and secret Santa, George Bailey and Linus, the red kettle and the bell-ringing bluecoat, Home Alone and Run, Run Rudolph.

Bah, humbug, and to all a goodnight.
