For the first time since the combination rock group/orchestra began doing its annual Christmas tours, it is not featuring one of the albums from its popular Christmas trilogy -- the 1996 release "Christmas Eve and Other Stories," "The Christmas Attic" (199 and "The Lost Christmas Eve" (2004).

Instead, TSO will perform its one Christmas work that never made it to CD -- and has never been performed on tour -- "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve."

And, if you authors haven't sent your signed books to Authors Supporting Our Troops... here's more incentive from someone that did:

I got some feedback from an unlikely source today. The wife of a Doctor at Balboa Naval hospital was told by her husband that books which had been donated to servicemen were getting passed around on the hospital Ship Mercy like crazy. It seems a lot of books that get sent to the troops wind up on the ship. The Doctor had told his wife that the troops who were reading books or had access to video games required less pain meds while recovering from burns. I told her that I donated my books through several different charities/ groups, including this one. She said keep it up, it is making a difference.

96 AP has put out a list of the Top 10 news stories of 2015. Several of these are actually interconnected stories.

1. Islamic State / 3. Paris Attacks / 4. Mass Shootings / 6. Terrorism Worries / 10. Europe's Migrant Crisis

The root of these is the turmoil in the Middle East, a lot of the blame for which falls on Obama and Hillary. This may not be an existential threat for the US yet, but with a million refugees entering Germany alone in the last year it may be soon for Western Europe. Further terrorist attacks, which look inevitable, will keep this at the top of the news.

8. Climate Change

If you believe Obama, the cause of and answer to the ISIS crisis.

7. US Election Campaign

Likely to be #1 in 2016, and to swing on the ISIS crisis, as Obama's fecklessness (and by extension Hillary's) has amplified it.

5. Black Deaths in Encounters with Police / 9. Charleston Church Shooting

Every death of a Young Black Man by firearm is because of White Racism, even if 95% are perpetrated by another Young Black Man.

2. Gay Marriage

Is the Gay political machine sated, or are there more goals left for their agenda.

this crass and classless stream of consciousness might delight the true Clinton haters, but it's not going to improve views of Trump among other voters. It will give Team Hillary even more openings to play the victim card after Republicans successfully defused the War on Women meme in 2014.

Ed Morrissey

nb - Edward not lumping himself in with the "true Clinton haters".Posted by: Laurie David's Cervix at December 22, 2015 10:49 AM (kdS6q)

Morrissey has a point regarding the crassness of the 'schlong' comment. Nixon had a crass side and I remember being genuinely shocked at how profane he was--he and Haldeman and Erlichman and the rest sounded like gangsters on those tapes. To Nixon's credit, he kept it private.

There is such a thing as presidential bearing, a mantle of dignity worn by the holder of the office and those who would aspire to it. Obama pretends to it but can't maintain it for long. Both Bushes worked hard at it, were conscious of it, but I don't think it came naturally to them. Reagan was a natural. So was Eisenhower. Sowere FDR and Lincoln, going all the way back to George Washington, whose force of presence was legendary.

Trump reallyis an embarrassment. I still can't believe some of you support the guy. George Washington shit better men than Donald Trump.

Galveston is pretty much a soft-target as far as U.S. ports are concerned. Aside from a few smaller USCG vessels, there's not much in the way of U.S. Naval assets here, and the port Law Enforcement units would be woefully inadequate to a true defensive effort.

That said, I'd damn near pay to watch some misguided Jihadi try to take on the Port of San Diego.

With the nuclear subs at Point Loma/Ballast Point, the Naval Aviation at North Island and the fleet at the 32nd St. complex....well, let's just say that those assets are more than lightly defended or casually monitored.

Sadly though, I can see their security being too timid in a necessary response to a threat, due to fears of censor by Ear Leader, should they "over-react" to an attack.

That's just the Naval assets though.

I rather doubt that any U.S. port has their commercial facilities sufficiently hardened against attack, much less infiltration and observation.

Consider this, and I don't proffer it as a suggestion, merely looking back at history.

During WWII, the Mob, the Unions* and the various government entities made an unwritten agreement to work together to secure U.S. ports against foreign agents and sabateurs.

* I'm being redundantly redundant, of course.

We need a bunch of hardassed dockworkers, longshoremen and stevedores doing a similar task in today's world.

Just hope they've not been hiring muzzies down on the docks.

314 Max Fisher, Voxman, has clarified his badly written tweet, and now says he didn't intend to say ISIS rapes are the fault of Fox News Channel reporting. Instead, he says Greta's mistaken tweet is "an inevitable result" of their reporting.

Fisher now says he is criticizing Greta for mistakenly tweeting Yazidis are Christian (they have an ancient multi-theistic religion of their own). Tweets can obviously sometimes get out with mistakes included, as Greta can now attest, because they are short, frequent and typically not reviewed before release, unlike, say, closely edited articles about bridges spanning Israel.

But Fisher goes a lot further and uses this tweet to reflexively condemn Fox News, saying he thinks this mistake "is the inevitable result" of "dog whistling" by FNC. Fisher is apparently claiming in his clumsily worded tweet that FNC has deliberately misidentified Yazidi as Christian for quite some time, and that Greta's error is a direct reflection of that reporting.

Just to be clear: he is saying FNC lies in it's reporting on Yazidi religion; and Greta's tweet is the result.

Google did not find any such instance of FNC reporting Yazidi are Christian for me, but even if it has happened, how does he tie her error to that reporting? How does he know FNC is deliberately lying ("dogwhistle")?

Maybe it isn't Fox who is lying here, maybe it is Max Fisher if he in this case exploits an error for the purpose of spreading propaganda.

Vox=propaganda.

The problem with your approach, chemjeff and Grey

Fox, is that it's national suicide. You're advocating Marquess of

Queensbury rules in a Folsom Prison knife fight. You're saying we

should make sure to continue using the correct fork for our salads as

the barbarians are raiding the dining the hall, killing our sons and

raping our daughters. That's the problem I'm having with what you're

advocating, as it seems many others here do. You're saying we should

roll over and die, and our country roll over and die, before we be seen

as soon anything other than genteel.

Posted by: Insomniac - Pale Horse/Death 2016 at December 22, 2015 11:20 AM (kpqmD)

This.
The Constitution is not a suicide pact and the things that you are
arguing cannot be done under the Constitution by and large can be done.
Chemjeff,
for instance argues that there cannot be a religious test for
foreigners entering the country but explicitly Congress, and by
delegation the President, have the power to set any limit they want on
people entering this country... including a religious test... because
the Constitution and common sense say that a sovereign nation always has
the right to do that.

Nor do I think he is particularly correct
that we should or even can take muslims as individuals on a case by
case basis. As P.J. O'Rourke once pointed out (and I am paraphrasing
here), one by one and man to man Arabs are salt of the earth. But get
them in a pack and shove a koran down the front of their pants and they
behave like a footlocker full of glue sniffing civet cats. Individual
muslims cannot be evaluated for entry without assessing the religious,
political and legal system that is islam. Pretending otherwise is
dangerously naive.

And I can only point grey fox to the wealth
of information available on Game Theory and say that there is a reason
tit for tat is always (ALWAYS) the most successful and most remunerative
game strategy. People have to know in any arena (political, battle,
etc.) that they will be treated AS THEY TREAT OTHERS or they have no
incentive to be civilized and the world descends into a chaos of
predator and prey.

2) He knows he won't be the nominee, but wants to be the kingmaker. That was the vibe from the end of the last debate.

I do think he is genuinely passionate on some issues and Cruz could put him in charge of finally securing the damn border that never seems to get secured. The guy does get stuff built.

379 >>Not for nothing, but do you--or any of the anti-Trump folks--have another candidate in mind that will destroy the GOPe?

Not for nothing, but do any Trump supporters have a shred of evidence that he will destroy the GOPe? This is a guy who said as recently as a week ago that until he announced his candidacy he *was* the GOP establishment.

Anybody who has watched Trump over the years can tell you the only thing consistent about Trump is that he is inconsistent and that he has made a fortune working with the political establishment. Yea, he's running as an outsider this campaign because 1) that's what the political winds are demanding this cycle and 2) no way he was going to get the support of the GOP establishment for the presidency as his first elected office.

Cruz is definitely working against the establishment in DC, it's why they are hacking away at him. And despite the fact that he gives off a Eddie Haskell vibe he is a lot more consistent in his conservative positions than Trump ever will be. And it appears he is now in the lead in Iowa.

The last time Democrats had back to back Presidencies was FDR - Truman (Kennedy - LBJ (8 years total) doesn't count). Yet Trump supporters think Republicans never take the Presidency, and that Shlong Trump is our only hope. Weird.

Short of Eisenhower, I can't think ofa GOP president who didn't end up as a disappointment. Even Ronaldus Maximus didn't take a blowtorch to the Imperial Federal Government. Nixon gave us the EPA, GHWB increased taxes and Dubya let that drunken murderer Ted Kennedy write his education bill.

The problem, which Trump bashers keep ignoring, is a feckless GOPe congress that simply will not fight against the left in any meaningful way! Trump is getting support because people are pissed off at congress, see no way of yanking their snouts out of the trough, and see a "you're fired!" Trump as, at best, a warning shot across the bow.

Going to be way non PC here...

Somehow, over the last couple of Generations here in the West... Nice got equated to Good.

If it was Good, but not Nice, it was not to be done...

The problem is that Nice can be suicidal. Nice is a LUXURY for a person, tribe, or country.

You have to take care of survival FIRST, and then if you have Surplus, be nice with it...

But we have gone so far (in our forced effort of Nicety) to allow the weak, to use that very weakness as a bludgeon against the strong...

Story time... a couple of years ago the Sister of the Lady I was dating, was TRYING to make me angry... everyone knew it. She was baiting me to get a rise out of me... and when I went silent.... literally said "ew... I'm making you mad aren't I" and then proceeded to get in my personal space and started to put her finger in my face...

Uh.... I'm a historic Fencer... been to National Tournaments.... needless to say the Parry was automatic...

I just held her hand, 2 inches in front of my nose... and would not release it...

She then broke into tears... because 'I' was a bully.... because I would not let her verbally or physically intimidate me...

Lost of Girlfriend over that one... because I 'was not nice'...

We have allowed Gays, and Women, and Minorities, and Handicapped, to replace 'good'... with 'nice'... to the point where 'WE' Men have allowed the next generation of Men to be Emasculated....

Ego driven, but gets things done. Continually tweaks the media with admirable calculation, and knows that civility is akin to "preparing for the last war" in this decidedly uncivil media environment.

What is behind the calculatedly crude mask?

No one knows, but I'd like to think that a man whose ego is based on getting things done knows that the old spirit of America is in danger of being overrun, and that spirit is what supports things getting done in the first place. Ergo, nonagression pact with Cruz.

Finally, Trump is showing everyone what politics is _really_ like behind the public facade (and the gatekeepers all know it, and they are horrified), and that may his biggest service to the American people in this day and age.

And that is my problem with Trump. I don't think he has a plan for an actual Trump Presidency because I don't think he ever thought he would get even this far let alone get elected.

In my perfect scenario, Cruz starts to consolidate support and overtakes The Donald but Trump stays around to lob verbal bombs and keep Hillary! and the left off balance. Cruz could then run under his air cover. I think Cruz would humiliate Granny Clinton in the debates.

I don't hate Trump. I find him equal parts amusing, entertaining, helpful and pain in the ass. He's just not my first choice.

My late Stepfather was prominent in state Democratic politics, a Humphrey delegate at the '68 Chicago convention. He got to know Hubert Humphrey, at least in a working, political context. Said Humphrey was one of the few truly principled, incorruptiblepoliticians he had ever met, a genuinely good man.

He also said that was one of the major reasons Humphrey lost, aside from Humphrey's genteel, unprepossessing manner. His heart just wasn't in the backroom wheeling and dealing, down-and-dirty, rough-and-tumble aspects of the job. He just wasn't ruthless enough.

I don't know. But I get why people get turned off to Cruz. I think it's his cadence when he speaks.

Wouldn't stop me for voting for him, but I *do* get it.

I wouldn't use a word like "slimy" but Cruz does cause a number of caution flags to go up.

In this day and age, that's not enough to declare against him. Indeed, since he's unquestionably the guy with the fewest caution flags, he's got to be the leader of the pack now.

If he had a chance to be nominated, that is. Which he doesn't.

Just like they found Obama dashing or something, rather than a cold sociopath with nicely pressed pants.

I don't find Cruz slimy at all - but then I am quite aware that my perceptions are not those of the general public.

I'd compare Bill Clinton to Rubio. They both have a talent -- they come off as snake oil salesmen, but yet still likable.

Both of them would have done very well in sales.

Cruz does not have that... whatever it is... that Rubio and Clinton have.

People said (about Clinton) that when he walked in to a room, any room, he was immediately the center of attention. And yet anyone he was talking to at the moment felt like they had his full attention and he actually cared about them.

I imagine the same is true of Rubio, and why the donors love him.

It's disingenuous as hell, but its a rare skill.

You can if you like but all those sources would agree that bringing a knife to a gun fight cause your scruples don't match your enemies is not only stupid... its suicidal. BTW, Reagan's policy of trust but verify and the unofficial policy put in place by entrenched WWI soldiers that allowed the famous Christmas Day truce of 1914 are both examples of tit for tat.
