Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Overnight Open Thread (11-17-2015)Quote of the Day I - They Had It Coming Edition Remember this man is our Secretary of State and came way too damn close to becoming president. Quote of the Day II - Da Nile is Just a River Edition The mother of a Paris suicide bomber says her son 'did not mean to kill anyone' - and claims he may have blown himself up because of stress... And of course all young women must also be encouraged to attend these rapeversities. For free. The other thing people noticed is that Obama gave his typical bloodless "I'd rather be golfing" sort of listless drone about the dead of Paris and his alleged enemies in ISIS, but then, as usual, became interested and emotionally engaged when he was asked about his real enemies, Republicans and Americans. Yes, I keep repeating this stuff. Because it bears repeating. In Iraq, Obama took a war that we had won at a considerable expense in lives and treasure, and threw it away for the callowest of political reasons. In Syria and Libya, he involved us in wars of choice without Congressional authorization, and proceeded to hand victories to the Islamists. Obama's policy here has been a debacle of the first order, and the press wants to talk about Bush as a way of protecting him. Whenever you see anyone in the media bringing up 2003, you will know that they are serving as palace guard, not as press. 33 Any religion you have to keep insisting is peaceful... isn't. Any religion you have to keep making excuses for and explaining why terrible things keep being done by them is severely troubled, obviously.
Jonah Goldberg: You Stupid Schmucks, Look at You Now In which Jonah had had it up to here with the all campus mini-Maos and their bullshit and channels his inner Tony Montana. Because this "crisis" is 100 percent liberalism's fault. Sure, sure, you can divvy up the slices of blame in different ways, but those guys tailgating in the parking lot drinking beers and eating bratwurst? Those are the conservatives and libertarians enjoying a day off, because they don't have to wait in line for even a morsel of blame. Read the whole thing. Why the Dems Can't Say 'Radical Islam'? What a Gun Free Zone Looks Like And going for the extra depravity: Miss Wilson, 49, originally from New Orleans, also told how she witnessed the gunmen deliberately targeting concert-goers in wheelchairs. The gunmen hunted down disabled people who were sat in an area specially set aside for wheelchair users. But just remember... The Real History of the 'Safe Space' The original concept of a 'safe space' bears no resemblance at all to what the spoiled snowflakes at universities are demanding today. In the late 1940s, Lewin was asked to help develop leadership training for corporate bosses and out of this work came the foundation of the National Training Laboratories and the invention of sensitivity training which was a form of group discussion where members could give honest feedback to each other to allow people to become aware of their unhelpful assumptions, implicit biases, and behaviours that were holding them back as effective leaders. A Worthwhile Canadian Initiative...For Real Canada recently became the first country in the world to legislate a cap on regulation. The Red Tape Reduction Act, which became law on April 23, 2015, requires the federal government to eliminate at least one regulation for every new one introduced. Remarkably, the legislation received near-unanimous support across the political spectrum: 245 votes in favor of the bill and 1 opposed. This policy development has not gone unnoticed outside Canada's borders. In fact it turns out that in the US cobras are the third most popular form of suicide, right behind multiple gunshots to the head and cut brake lines. Chewbacca's High-Maintenance Hair Routine Wookiee costumes are about seven and a half feet tall. They're made mostly from yak hair, which is long and silky and similar to human hair. Of course, this means it's prone to tangles-a problem Cork remedies with a special brush called the Tangle Teezer, which is reportedly a favorite with beauty insiders. The Tangle Teezer helps loosen the snarls caused by Chewy's pouch rubbing against his hips-a condition that's affectionately referred to as "Wookiee butt." Cork also softens wayward Wookiee mats with an oil moisturizer, which she applies at night. Once the Chewy outfits are smooth and glossy, Cork boosts their body with a curling wand, and puts loose strands into place with two kinds of hair spray. Of course, all that heat can damage the follicles, so Cork makes sure to mist the galactic creature's tresses with a heat protectant spray. The Yahoo group is for closers only. Teh Tweet! Tonight's post brought to you by the missing hair goods report: Notice: Posted by permission of AceCorp LLC. Yeah Yeah the tip thing and all that. My favorite story today was sad but had comical elements to it.
A church was vandalized - horrible. The message, written very neatly for graffiti was "You can't believe everything you read." Spelled correctly. Legibly. In the video below, the gayest vandals ever are spotted by the security cameras. They wore shirts. The shirts had writing. The writing on their shirts said "Arsenic and Old Lace." Gayest vandals ever. http://tinyurl.com/o5xjhj5 Posted by: Stateless Infidel at November 17, 2015 10:12 PM (AC0lD) 21

102 rickl, 9-11 was my new beginning.
Posted by: willow at November 17, 2015 10:37 PM (jOumW) I read Ayn Rand in the late 90s, so I got there a little before that. Back in the 80s, I briefly worked in a venetian blind factory. The woman who worked on the machine next to me was a member of the John Birch Society, the only honest-to-God Bircher I've ever met. I had always assumed that Birchers were kooks and fanatics, but she was a perfectly decent woman. We talked politics and disagreed on pretty much everything. Back then politics wasn't the blood sport it has become today. She was a very nice lady and we got along fine. (She was twice my age and married, so sex didn't enter into it.) Today I'll tell anybody who will listen that the Birchers were pretty much right all along, for the most part. Posted by: rickl at November 17, 2015 10:49 PM (sdi6R) 156

You know it occurs to me that "The Man" that liberals of all ages are actually rebelling against? it's not necessarily "daddy" - it's Reality.
I guess Matt and Trey already noticed that, kind of. something weird happened at my kids' school's car line at dismissal today and I am on the fence about whether I should tell anyone . . . ugh. basically it's a church and the school and they share a lot, and it's pretty organized. well this weird car full of young people (young men with a girl driving) came RACING into the lot. then sort of half-parked in car line and I was like "what are they doing?!?!" I mean it was pretty obvious they weren't picking up kids. then after a while they all of a sudden squealed out of the lot, laughing. It's been bugging me all day. Car lines are scary when you think about it. you have a lot of kids in one place and all the cars can't move . . . ugh. this is what I think about now. I stopped voting for leftists in the '70's when I figured out that they didn't really want to change the system as much as they wanted to be in charge.
I was living in a cooperative house at the time. Let me say that expounding on my new ideas to the house was met with . . . a lot of anger and pushback. When I ran for Secretary (because the current one was dealing drugs out of the house and letting people slide on their dues) they stuffed the ballot box to make sure I wasn't elected. Left within 2 months. Eff 'em. And there were a lot of college kids in the house. A lot of them Yalies. That too was a revelation. ends justifying the means and all that is kind of special coming from kids who never had to work or worry about money in their life and would continue to not do so. Once you accept that Obama is at the least a Muslim sympathizer if not actually considers himself Muslim, a lot of what he's done and said and does and says make so much more sense.
Once you accept that, then it becomes a bit easier to see how some of his supposed "blunders or mistakes" were not benign negligence but actual malice aforethought. And then a whole bunch of things become clearer in what he's done and said and how he acts and who he hires. It's quite logical really. What's disconcerting is that he's gotten away with it for so long. I commented in an earlier thread on this but will say it over here in the open thread.
ISIS is gonna hit us here. It's a certainty. They have surely considered every kind of target. The big iconic cities of NYC and DC may be too fortified for them now, with street cops wearing armor and carrying MP5s. But Paris had trained and well-armed cops everywhere, and look what happened there. The monster venues of pro sports are probably out, due to the kinds of security that they get now, but look where ISIS was most successful in Paris, that being a music venue. Go to any second-tier city here today and pick up the latest TimeOut or similar paper, and see how many music venues there are of a size similar to the Bataclan with its 1500 seats. My nearby city of Denver has plenty. More, if you consider nearby Boulder. Then there is this. I learned recently that the average Costco store has an annual gross sales slightly higher than that of an average pro sports venue. By about noon on any given Saturday, my local Costco's parking lot is at capacity, and there are probably as many people inside as were at the Bataclan. Maybe there are metal detectors, I don't know, but people walk in carrying things, and all you need to do is quickly flip your Costco ID at the door greeter to enter. Imagine a group of a dozen holy warriors, split up into four groups of three, hitting four Costcos at once in a city of a size to have four or more stores. How many innocents might they kill before having to hit the buttons on their vests? I really think the soft targets they will hit here (and yes they will, sooner or later) will be in the heartland, rather than in the megacities. An attack in a place like Des Moines or Denver would not make as big a media splash as one in NYC or DC, but it would have the effect of spreading much more fear. IIRC the actual open carry law doesn't go into effect until Jan. 1st. I'm no expert, but in the past there's been apparently an issue with exposing one's weapon. I've heard about people getting arrested even when it happened accidentally. The law was recently changed so that accidental exposure couldn't get you in trouble. Other Texans may know more than me about this though. Posted by: Blano at November 17, 2015 11:19 PM (heN73) 275
Bitter Clinger @ 227-
It is against the law to carry a firearm on your person in Texas. Unless you have a CCL. You may, however, carry a firearm to and from your vehicle and in you vehicle to and from destinations. You may not carry a knife with longer than 3 inch blade, numchucks, brass knuckles, spears, or swords (that last one about the swords is kinda harsh IMO). You can open carry a firearm ONLY if you possess a CCL. Of course if you are a convicted felon you may NOT be issued a CCL. I will probably open carry once, on 1 January 2016. Who knows about later? By the way, I carry in my line of work, so there's that. Damn things are heavy, at least the ones with calibers beginning with the number four. Okay. Good they're changing that. I was mainly referring to the part where even holding a ccw license didn't protect you from a charge if you accidentally exposed that you were carrying. Seemed rather illogical and open to someone being wrongfully charged. I can understand the thinking but it still was a stupid law. And in Texas to boot. I've been trying out all sorts of options for carry because I don't want to freak anybody or get hassled by the police. It isn't easy hiding a full size weapon. Hollywood will do a movie of Paris, but it will be from the perspective of the one whose mom said he didn't mean it.
Poor tortured jihadi. Sewn into a vest he cannot escape, armed with a switch he cannot disable. Most of the film is done in flashback, showing his wonderful family life. Reluctantly he joins up, when all attempts at getting a job as a web designer don't pan out. In the thrilling climax, he desperately seeks a park or a car-park lot where he can blow himself to smithereens without hurting another soul. The real complexity of France invoking NATO assistance isn't with the USA.
It's with the Turks. The USA has an Islamist sympathizer running its government but a populace who are still overwhelmingly non-Islamic and who largely mistrust Islam. Turkey has an even harder line Islamist sympathizer running its government, along with a largely Islamic population, and large internal blocs of Muslim radicals. In PA there's some advantage to having a carry license even if you don't.
You can be armed in the state forests and WMA and gamelands where others (even hunters except for their hunting weapon, can't) and you can transport a weapon with separating the weapon from the ammunition and travel where you want when carrying (otherwise you can only transport between your house and a hunting area or a gunsmith or a range and no stopovers between). That may be what has led to a 1::7 ownership of carry licensees whereas the national ratio is 1::50. Of course that may be slightly different in Philly. Speaking of food, yet another nail in the coffin of the "healthy eating" crap they've been pushing since the '70s. There was a study that came out concluding that cooking with polyunsaturated fats (vegetable oils) is probably not a good idea, as heating these oils releases 100x times as many toxic aldehydes.
Animal fats are much safer they conclude, you know, butter, lard, tallow, etc, all the stuff they told us was killing us for years. Posted by: publius (not Breitbart publius) at November 17, 2015 11:43 PM (dvuhZ) 382

Hot dogs should properly be topped with mayo, mustard, bacon, fried rice, tomatoes, french-fries, mac and cheese, and diced jalapenos. Rappini is good too, as are chicken nuggets, and several more hot dogs.

There's a local chain here, the Dog Haus, that was founded by a guy from Chicago who missed his Chicago-style hot dogs. He sells about hot dogs with about 6 different variations of toppings, plus brats and Italian beef sandwiches, but I always go for the Chicago dogs with that neon green relish, sport peppers, tomatoes and only mustard, no ketchup. His dogs are better than the one I had at Wrigley Field.

And also Sun Set Regs. We'd probably still have the AWB if it weren't for the fact it had a Sun Set proviso. To many bad laws that linger on because; either no one knows or no one cares until some poor sap falls afoul of a over zealous prosecutor. And there in lies another reform needed; Prosecutor control. Right now the only thing stopping a Prosecutor is his own personal ethics, the Bar of his state and maybe a judge. But there's no guarantees and no way to instigate a charge against one unless formulated within the local courts. That's why so much bad stuff they do goes unpunished and either they or some other prosecutor does it again and again. They've turned the courts into a punishment. Forget about the tall idiot and the one with the big ears and pouty face. Although it's been over 200 years we remember France's aid to our cause when we were desperate. All joking aside the American people (for the most part the ones you'd want on your side anyway) are with you. The question becomes; are you with us? Are you actually ready and willing to take the steps necessary to eliminate or at least reduce the threat of Islam? This may entail giving up some fond feelings and beliefs that have proven deadly, stupid and wrong. Posted by: Bitter Clinger and All That at November 18, 2015 12:28 AM (Xo1Rt) 480

My dad is a Doc and was sewing me up once (yes he had to do it more than once). Anyways this time he didn't have all the right tools (apparently there are special needles and hemostats they use when sewing) It is very disconcerting when the guy sewing you up keeps swearing. Former Moron, and now Blogevangelist Stephen H. Graham, wrote one of the most AoS Lifestyle-Worthy cookbooks, ever.
"Eat What You Want and Die Like a Man" Amazon Link: http://tinyurl.com/op6esvm The Champagne Chicken rocks, the Pizza is sublime, and the Yeast Raised Doughnuts Deep Fried in Lard and Glazed with.....well....go read. Oh, and the Twice Fried French Fries. All that said, what's my favorite food? Easy. My own cooking. And many who've tried it, concur. I'm not Cordon Bleu. But I'm also microwaving a Swanson TV Dinner, either. And I can cook for one to one hundred, or more. Long as I've got a commercial kitchen, walk in and suitable prep area, yes, I can cook for the Horde. Oh, and the budget to buy all the fixins, and few volunteers to help keep things moving as I assemble the fare. No, I don't do it commercially, though I did in the days of my yoot. But, I've simply got better at everything I've learned over the years, and have fun doing it once a year or so. I don't like boring food. So I don't make boring food. 440 I almost never use ketchup on anything. When I order fries, I ask for mustard or mayonnaise. I don't refuse ketchup--I don't make the drive-thru guys and gals do extra work--but when given the choice I do not employ ketchup. Ketchup can go back to Syria or Mexico because there is no work here.

Well, I was sleeping on the couch because I'm renovating my bathroom, so the bathroom stuff is currently stored on my bed. So, anyway sleeping on the couch.
I wake up, my dog is barking like crazy, jumping at the door which isn't all that unusual; it's a windy night, so I figured he was barking at the wind, per the usual. I look up and there is someone trying to get in my back (sliding) door. Physically trying to get in. (It was locked). She clearly didn't see me since I was in the dark. It was a female, but it sounded like there were more people out there. It could have just been the one. I went to grab the phone to call the police. The thought actually went through my head, "I kind of wish I had a gun just in case these people get in." When I come back from getting the phone, she is standing there with a broom, and I am wondering if she was thinking of trying to break the door down or what. I was worried about my dog. After a while, she just left, and if anyone was with her, I am assuming they went, too. I need to go out and check my car and make sure everything is accounted for, but I am kind of afraid to go outside. I live in a small town. I never thought I would be that person ducking down and ready to call the police.
I always thought I would be that person who went back, asked if someone was in distress, needed a hand, needed a ride, a phone call, let them in until someone came and got them. But, I gotta tell you, I was terrified. Posted by: TickledPink at November 18, 2015 03:58 AM (F5hTl) 520

Yup motion-sensored security lights. They were on. They've been on all night however, because like I said, it has been windy out. Heck, maybe the lights are what attracted them in the first place. Not sure if the new thread will pop up but glad nothing happened!! A number of years ago some guy was in my backyard - I heard the dog I had at the time barking and went and looked out the window and he was holding a broom and looked like he was about to use it to break the window! He ran away when he saw the dog though, the broom part just popped out at me. Wonder how common that is? Posted by: lea at November 18, 2015 07:40 AM (vmMMi) 535
The original concept of a 'safe space' bears no resemblance at all to what the spoiled snowflakes at universities are demanding today.
That's not so. Read on: honesty and change would only occur if people could be frank and challenge others in an environment of psychological safety. In other words, without judgement. IOW, some people in the group could judge others, without being judged, in turn, by those they judge. That is EXACTLY what today's radical collegians demand.
