In Iraq, Obama took a war that we had won at a considerable expense in lives and treasure, and threw it away for the callowest of political reasons. In Syria and Libya, he involved us in wars of choice without Congressional authorization, and proceeded to hand victories to the Islamists. Obama's policy here has been a debacle of the first order, and the press wants to talk about Bush as a way of protecting him. Whenever you see anyone in the media bringing up 2003, you will know that they are serving as palace guard, not as press.

You kids think it is somehow rebellious to be liberal. So let me see if I get this right. The administrators at this school are liberal. The professors are liberal. Your high-school teachers were probably liberal. Your textbooks are, for the most part, liberal. Hollywood is liberal. The music industry is liberal. The fashion industry is liberal. Publishing is liberal. The mainstream media are liberal. Silicon Valley is liberal. Believe it or not, most corporations and the overwhelming majority of charitable foundations are liberal.
And yet, you think you're sticking it to the man by agreeing with them?
Moreover, it's been like this for generations. It was true when most of these administrators and faculty were born - they have grown up inside a universe where this fact was simply taken for granted. With the Left given total control of these oases of tolerance and citadels of progressivism, what do we get?
We get pampered and coddled students screaming that these institutions are hotbeds of racism, homophobia, sexism, and the rest of the 31 Flavors of Oppression.

And it is fitting. It is just. It's almost frick'n Biblical in its justness. You see, there is precious little bigotry and prejudice on college campuses. But the bulk of what does exist is aimed almost entirely at the guys and gals chilling at the tailgate party. Pro-life Christians, Israel-supporting Jews, libertarian professors, conservative scholars, climate-change skeptics, traditionalists of every stripe including classical liberals, and, of course, people who can take a joke: These make up the bulk of the victims of campus bigotry and prejudice. I can't tell you how many professors I've met who have to keep their conservatism secret, at least until tenure, if not forever. I've never met or heard of a faculty member who had to keep her Marxism on the down-low.

A Worthwhile Canadian Initiative...For Real
Canada recently became the first country in the world to legislate a cap on regulation. The Red Tape Reduction Act, which became law on April 23, 2015, requires the federal government to eliminate at least one regulation for every new one introduced. I read Ayn Rand in the late 90s, so I got there a little before that.
Back in the 80s, I briefly worked in a venetian blind factory. The woman who worked on the machine next to me was a member of the John Birch Society, the only honest-to-God Bircher I've ever met. I had always assumed that Birchers were kooks and fanatics, but she was a perfectly decent woman.
We talked politics and disagreed on pretty much everything. Back then politics wasn't the blood sport it has become today. She was a very nice lady and we got along fine. (She was twice my age and married, so sex didn't enter into it.)
Today I'll tell anybody who will listen that the Birchers were pretty much right all along, for the most part.

something weird happened at my kids' school's car line at dismissal today and I am on the fence about whether I should tell anyone . . . ugh. basically it's a church and the school and they share a lot, and it's pretty organized. well this weird car full of young people (young men with a girl driving) came RACING into the lot. then sort of half-parked in car line and I was like "what are they doing?!?!" I mean it was pretty obvious they weren't picking up kids. then after a while they all of a sudden squealed out of the lot, laughing.
It's been bugging me all day. Car lines are scary when you think about it. you have a lot of kids in one place and all the cars can't move . . . ugh. this is what I think about now.

Let me say that expounding on my new ideas to the house was met with . . . a lot of anger and pushback.
When I ran for Secretary (because the current one was dealing drugs out of the house and letting people slide on their dues) they stuffed the ballot box to make sure I wasn't elected.
Left within 2 months. Eff 'em.
And there were a lot of college kids in the house. A lot of them Yalies. That too was a revelation. ends justifying the means and all that is kind of special coming from kids who never had to work or worry about money in their life and would continue to not do so.

Yep, I completely agree.
The cool thing about my story is that I met that JBS member while working in a factory. Factories have always been hotbeds of unionism, Marxism, and class struggle.
She didn't change my mind at the time, but she certainly rocked my world in that I never regarded Birchers the same way again. I had been led to believe that they were crazed hateful bigots, and she was nothing like that.

Once you accept that, then it becomes a bit easier to see how some of his supposed "blunders or mistakes" were not benign negligence but actual malice aforethought.
And then a whole bunch of things become clearer in what he's done and said and how he acts and who he hires.
It's quite logical really. What's disconcerting is that he's gotten away with it for so long.

They have surely considered every kind of target. The big iconic cities of NYC and DC may be too fortified for them now, with street cops wearing armor and carrying MP5s. But Paris had trained and well-armed cops everywhere, and look what happened there.
The monster venues of pro sports are probably out, due to the kinds of security that they get now, but look where ISIS was most successful in Paris, that being a music venue.
Go to any second-tier city here today and pick up the latest TimeOut or similar paper, and see how many music venues there are of a size similar to the Bataclan with its 1500 seats. My nearby city of Denver has plenty. More, if you consider nearby Boulder.
Then there is this. I learned recently that the average Costco store has an annual gross sales slightly higher than that of an average pro sports venue. By about noon on any given Saturday, my local Costco's parking lot is at capacity, and there are probably as many people inside as were at the Bataclan.
Maybe there are metal detectors, I don't know, but people walk in carrying things, and all you need to do is quickly flip your Costco ID at the door greeter to enter.
Imagine a group of a dozen holy warriors, split up into four groups of three, hitting four Costcos at once in a city of a size to have four or more stores. How many innocents might they kill before having to hit the buttons on their vests?
I really think the soft targets they will hit here (and yes they will, sooner or later) will be in the heartland, rather than in the megacities. An attack in a place like Des Moines or Denver would not make as big a media splash as one in NYC or DC, but it would have the effect of spreading much more fear.

Yep. I remember that happening. I was a wet behind the ears kid of 15. I also remember watching that hijacking where the pilot was leaning out the window with an Islamist pointing a gun at his head. It was in the summer and hot as hell and I'd just finished mowing the lawn and was sitting in my parents' bedroom watching the live feed on what felt like a newfangled thing called CNN.

IIRC the actual open carry law doesn't go into effect until Jan. 1st.
I'm no expert, but in the past there's been apparently an issue with exposing one's weapon. I've heard about people getting arrested even when it happened accidentally.
The law was recently changed so that accidental exposure couldn't get you in trouble. Other Texans may know more than me about this though.

It is against the law to carry a firearm on your person in Texas. Unless you have a CCL. You may, however, carry a firearm to and from your vehicle and in you vehicle to and from destinations. You may not carry a knife with longer than 3 inch blade, numchucks, brass knuckles, spears, or swords (that last one about the swords is kinda harsh IMO). You can open carry a firearm ONLY if you possess a CCL. Of course if you are a convicted felon you may NOT be issued a CCL. I will probably open carry once, on 1 January 2016. Who knows about later? By the way, I carry in my line of work, so there's that. Damn things are heavy, at least the ones with calibers beginning with the number four.

I was mainly referring to the part where even holding a ccw license didn't protect you from a charge if you accidentally exposed that you were carrying.
Seemed rather illogical and open to someone being wrongfully charged.
I can understand the thinking but it still was a stupid law.
And in Texas to boot.
I've been trying out all sorts of options for carry because I don't want to freak anybody or get hassled by the police.
It isn't easy hiding a full size weapon. (my hands are just too big for anything smaller)

You can be armed in the state forests and WMA and gamelands where others (even hunters except for their hunting weapon, can't) and you can transport a weapon with separating the weapon from the ammunition and travel where you want when carrying (otherwise you can only transport between your house and a hunting area or a gunsmith or a range and no stopovers between).
That may be what has led to a 1::7 ownership of carry licensees whereas the national ratio is 1::50.
Of course that may be slightly different in Philly.

Actually, without a LTC in PA you aren't allowed to transport a weapon in your car ANYWHERE. There is no law that allows someone to carry a weapon in their car (separated from the ammo and triple locked, or not), whether they are going to the range, coming back from buying it, etc.

Even the law isn't stupid enough (cause this ain't Jersey) to make it so you cannot return home with a just purchased weapon or go to a hunting area (PA's big on tourist hunting) or going to a gunsmith. And there in lies another reform needed; Prosecutor control. Right now the only thing stopping a Prosecutor is his own personal ethics, the Bar of his state and maybe a judge.
But there's no guarantees and no way to instigate a charge against one unless formulated within the local courts.
That's why so much bad stuff they do goes unpunished and either they or some other prosecutor does it again and again.
They've turned the courts into a punishment.

My dad is a Doc and was sewing me up once (yes he had to do it more than once). Anyways this time he didn't have all the right tools (apparently there are special needles and hemostats they use when sewing) It is very disconcerting when the guy sewing you up keeps swearing. All turned out well and I have a neat scar still.

I wake up, my dog is barking like crazy, jumping at the door which isn't all that unusual; it's a windy night, so I figured he was barking at the wind, per the usual. I look up and there is someone trying to get in my back (sliding) door. Physically trying to get in. (It was locked). She clearly didn't see me since I was in the dark.
It was a female, but it sounded like there were more people out there. It could have just been the one. I went to grab the phone to call the police. The thought actually went through my head, "I kind of wish I had a gun just in case these people get in."
When I come back from getting the phone, she is standing there with a broom, and I am wondering if she was thinking of trying to break the door down or what. I was worried about my dog.
After a while, she just left, and if anyone was with her, I am assuming they went, too. I need to go out and check my car and make sure everything is accounted for, but I am kind of afraid to go outside.

I always thought I would be that person who went back, asked if someone was in distress, needed a hand, needed a ride, a phone call, let them in until someone came and got them.
But, I gotta tell you, I was terrified.

I have a WC, and their Belly Bombs, three blocks from me and I still see people buying the frozen ones in the grocery store.
When I was a kid visiting Chattanooga, they had a similar chain called Krystal's. Honestly, I've never understood the allure of 'hamburgers' you could inhale in two or three bites.

Heck, maybe the lights are what attracted them in the first place. The girl was very loud but didn't seem inebriated. She wasn't wobbly or stumbling. She was pretty steady.

Whatever I'm cooking in the kitchen. Yeah, I can cook, from bar food to gourmet (my sautéed sole with roasted pepper, caper and black olive sauce is one of my best creations). Sounds like a textbook example of a time to be armed. You were lucky enough to have a "dry run" that didn't end up worse than a scare.....30 days from now, you should be more prepared.

A number of years ago some guy was in my backyard - I heard the dog I had at the time barking and went and looked out the window and he was holding a broom and looked like he was about to use it to break the window! He ran away when he saw the dog though, the broom part just popped out at me. Wonder how common that is?
