It is effectively slandering its own users saying that their perfectly reasonable points of view constitute "hate speech" and that they're not going to be allowed on Facebook, and Facebook has promised the German government that this stuff will be removed within 24 hours. That is outright Orwellian. That is outright terrifying.
As Glenn Reynolds notes Facebook doesn't even pretend to not be evil.

I think Disqus is the best platform. The problem is when you get 200+, which is the norm here, it becomes unwieldy. It's also more difficult to be anonymous on it than it used to be--though it's still much better than Facebook.
For a commenting system, Facebook just sucks. Even beyond the Orwellian parts, as a format, it just sucks. If you have 10 people commenting on a post, fine. If you get more than that, it becomes a big pain to keep up with a discussion and find the good stuff.

Ugh, no disqus is awful. I had the nested comments. It makes the type of humor you see here with comments building off of each other impossible. I would be all for modernizing the comments here to make things work the way they are supposed to work, but I'm 100% a fan of the linear commenting for this site.

Basically he told Univision he wasn't going to overturn Obama's immigration EUs. Ted Cruz called him on it, and went all "Ted Cruz is a liar!!!!" when it was completely true.
Then he made some statement like "I'm not going to attack my opponents, but Ted Cruz is lying about me because he's a lying liar so I had to respond."
I'm done though. All my friends who first said they were supporting him *in spite* of his immigration stance have lately come out as pro-illegal immigration because, Catholic (sorry, Catholic horde but that's just based on the people I personally know, not an indictment of all other Catholics).

A few corrective observations.
Last my lazy a** read a figure on it - estimated by UNHCR or the Red Cross, so credible - only about 20% of the people invading Europe were "refugees" of any conventional discription, from Syria. It seems like a small semantic thing, but it ain't. It's kinda the whole enchilada. What Europe is seeing is mass illegal *migration*, NOT a refugee flow.
I am completely baffled by the concept of "payback" in the context of GOP refusal to consider SCOTUS nominees during the balance of this Congress. If a nominee has *ever* been confirmed in these circumstances, it was an outlier (did anyone do the work to confirm that no justice had been confirmed in an election year/final year of a presidential term?). Thus, there is no "payback" at all for the outrageous Dem behavior re Bork and Estrada. It's really entirely subjects, even if SCOTUS appointments are the general issue.
Again, not semantics. "Payback" - the utter lack of which has proved disastrous for American governance - would have been quite different. In the Estrada case, the GOP should have race-baited the bejeesus out of the situation, screaming (incl. from the presidential podium) that the Dems were blocking the best nominee for a lower court in decades because of his ethnicity.
The Dems' nuclear option stunt more recently should absolutely have been met, upon the GOP's capture of the Senate majority in 2014, with a complete shut-down of further judicial appointments, period. None. Zero. For the balance of Obama's term. Again, as always with all actual serious political moves the likes of which we literally never see from the GOP, accompanied by an extremely vituperative and loud assault on the Dems for breaking long-standing traditions in order to damage the country by putting anti-Constitutional freaks on the bench.

The problem with "moderate" in this country is who defines our political vocabulary - the media. They've already given us a world where our left wing is authoritarian and our right wing is libertarian (the exact reverse of the original definitions).
Having an agenda to push, they've defined moderate as a millimeter to the right of what they are pushing for and those who don't pay attention believe them. I believe in the Constitution as it was written, and that we should defer to the intent of the people who wrote it when there's doubt on any matter, and they call me an extremist. It'd be laughably absurd if it were not our reality.

The transformation of the courts into unaccountable, unconstitutional super legislatures (for dummies, for the most part). Explain it, hammer it, scream it, don't stop, confront the idiotic Dems/press/degraded legal education/etc. with it.
Or - of course - Congress finally, at last, exercising some of its constitutional responsibilities to limit the jurisdiction of courts that have completely exceeded their authority.
One, or two, or 1,287 judges and justices dying? Utterly immaterial to the problem, which would continue (there are lots of replacements available to perpetuate the problem).

There is a wide moral gap between feigning/displaying suicidal intentions in a desperate attempt to gain attention for an existential crisis; and feigning suicidal intentions in a dickish attempt to gain attention.
It is extremely curious how a group of people using a nic might ghoulishly continue to use it after one of their members threatened suicidal intent using the nic, then carried through with it. Ordinary people might recoil from these horrific events, not engaging in dickish behavior that gets them banned under the now-tainted nic....not wanting to dishonor the dead by besmirching his character posthumously.

Saw that yesterday on another site.
That was bee-yoo-tee-full. Loved the way the con man got quieter and quieter as his position worsened, you can see him realizing his trash-talking is going to get him out of deep doo-doo, then he got to the point where he flat-out tried to steal a piece.

There is only one thing I might change on AoS comments - live links. Not the kind you have to construct like with HTML link tags. Not a change on anything users do, like making sure links are short - Just pixy turning an http url into a live link automagically.

I recall the speculation from a little while back that OG might have done away with himself, based on some pretty obvious clues, which was distressing.
Then I was happy when OG (or who the rest of us took to be the singular OG) popped back up, and now I'm just pissed off and sad to learn that one of the plural OGs did take his own life, and that one or more of the remaining ones have been dicking us around subsequently.

I'm a CPA, so I'm professionally paranoid in the first place.....but this falls apart from the get-go. OG throws a post which very subtly says "suicidal" -- so subtly, that I'm the only one who gets it. I make further inquiries the next day and find that, yes, it is a suicide threat -- and alert the Horde to it. I go looking for OG over the course of days and find him showing up under another nic. And now 'Apologies' shows up with OG's voice to claim I didn't do enough and some cock-and-bull scheme about everyone in a medical group continuing to post as the dead guy after he offed himself -- no matter how creepy and implausible this sounds.
I want to be sympathetic, but this is insulting. Truth can be stranger than fiction, but I'll need a published obit to even begin to consider it.

Just cause no one else commented doesn't mean no one else thought the whole incident (on both sides) was churlish... sort of like when Trump had hecklers kicked out after removing their coats.
Nor is Ralph the only one who fears a Trump Presidency. That is not hate OR the fake TDS that Trumps lovers around here tend do dismiss contra commenters around here with. It is a recognition that Trump has no conservative philosophical center and that his love of America (which I believe is very genuine) wouldn't stop him from doing things through incompetence/love of deal making/affinity and comfort with the current crony system that would not move this country off the destructive path it is on.

I have often said here and elsewhere, that the actions of Facebook, Twitter and others offers a tremendous arbitrage opportunity for conservatives. I can barely do simple HTML (although I did create a loaded pair of dice in Java once) so I would not be the person to fix this. He says that 90% of the press is dictated by the government or by simple political correctness. It's like in the days of the DDR or of Adolf. (I'm not Godwin-ing, I'm quoting him). The AfD (very roughly, the Tea Party) has no seats in parliament. It has become the rule of one man (woman, in this case) rather than the rule of law.
I am seriously scheming a way to get back over there and learn what's what.

Eh, I think it did influence the 2012 election results by effectively taking out (distracting) strong opposition to Obama. That plus all of the various DNC vote manufacturing schemes. I took a brief look at what was apparently the QOTD thread, I think it had maybe 50 badly-organized comments, many of which were people saying they thought they'd give it a try, but didn't like it and were leaving.

On the off chance that you haven't been following this series, my dad kept a journal throughout his time in Europe in WWII. He was not in a foxhole on the front lines. He was counterbattery Field Artillery officer, giving his perspective on events at the front as he learned of them.
