3 In other news, Hot Air just decided to commit suicide by moving to a Facebook-only commenting system.

Because requiring people to provide personal information to a creepy, left-wing, organization whose business model is to find out absolutely everything about you, and then selling that information, is a good way to encourage commenting.

Steelhead is merely the sea-run form of rainbow trout, which were once properly "salmo gardnieri" and for reasons are now "oncorhynchus mykiss", a shift which was made for totally bullshit reasons.

I suggest a bar fight to straighten this out.

34 Welcome, Hot Air Commenters

But first, you will blow me.

And if you didn't bring your fucking shinebox, you might as well go fetch it now, before someone here inevitably suggests you do so.

Also, revolution. One 360 degree trip around the axis, or a description of what we did to the Brits a few hundred years ago as we kicked their asses back across the Atlantic. You can mention that word here. (You can't, of course, advocate the armed overthrow of the US gubmint).

If you're a grammar nazi, that position is currently full. Moose out front shoulda told you that.

If you get the urge to bitch about the commenting system here, just remember WHY you fled Hot Air.

In general, don't be a dickweed and you'll do fine here. Expect a bit of crudity, strong opinions, and remember to avoid personal attacks on other commenters.

Bush also admitted he would have never received authorization from Congress if not for the WMD claim. Condaleeza Rice was talking about "mushroom clouds" in the run up to the war.

You dumb asses are still supporting Bush even though he has abandoned the position you are taking. Trump was right about Iraq an Bush, fucking deal with it.

43 The other day, there was an article about how the brits wont release names on aholes on the run bc they hadnt been convicted and it would be a violation of their 'human rights.' The UK always does this type of crap. Even after convictions, they will help criminals change their names and provide housing and welfare and jobs. Does this cut back on recidivism? It didnt with the guys who bashed in a 2 y/o's head when they were just 12. After they were released, they reoffended. And then there was a teen who murdered her mother in NZ, served her sentence and then immigrated to UK. She had a new identity and a new passport which allowed her to travel to the US. So much for respecting our laws.

A little background on Ace of Spades is in order. Imagine a turn of the last century British gentlemens' club, with fine aged furniture and whiskey, and erudite conversations going on quietly, perhaps a gentlemanly game of billiards down the hall.

59 That's something new: a pro-Trump troll instead of, IMHO, anti-Trump ones that have appeared since last November or so.

However, one defence of Trump's attack on 43 through Jeb (and not just Jeb trying to run on his brother's job and the GOPe audience going for Trump bringing on Trump's attack) is that this inoculates him against charges that he's just like Bush or another Bush.

Not my thought BTW; someone on the ONT came up with it.

Either the same person (most likely) or another pointed out that a Journo-lister asked Romney how he wasn't just like Bush too, so saying that was 8-16 years ago and so wouldn't be raised ain't necessarily so.

Hot Air to move to Facebook comment system

We have certainly enjoyed the comment section and look forward to seeing it grow and become more diverse. we rarely have the opportunity to open the system to new commenters, which means that newer Hot Air readers have no opportunity to engage and provide their feedback to our articles. That is unfair to those new Hot Air readers, and it also deprives other readers from a broader range of views.

Executive Summary: Too many darned conservatives in the comments. We're a Salem blog, darn it! Time to let the lefties and quivering moderates pee in the pool even more than they already do.

Leftist dopes would have no way of knowing that if you read letters of spiritual directors (Fenelon, Padre Pio, etc) they are often sound very intense intimate and says things like "You know that i love you." 98 Bush lost me in many ways when he made the "Islam is a religion of peace" comment.

I then knew for sure he was willing to present bald faced lies to the public with no shame.

Which was okay until he then blew it on strategy and tactics in Iraq.

He made the correct decision and then fcuked it up.

But that was probably due to Powell being SoS.

Someone should've advised him better.

101 Biggest game of chicken links to an American Thinker piece from Oct 2014 when oil prices were down from 100 dpb to 70 dpb. The attached charts show most frackers are driven out if the price is below 60 dpb. Keep driving it down and Iran, Venezuela, Nigeria, and Russia have huge economic problems. Maybe some governments fail.

But frackers can turn on an oil field again with a million bucks and three weeks. Is our government engaged with OPEC at all? Are the feeding Iran with one hand and starving them with the other? And Iran enters the oil markets again this week. I would not be shocked if oil went under 20 dpb

If I remember correctly, the big thing against the rush to war in Iraq was speculation that Bush was pushing it to get back at Saddam because Saddam tried to kill Bush Sr.. Funny, that hasn't come up this go-round.

108 The anti Iraq War people have the benefit of hindsight, passage of time that allows facts to be forgotten and the impossibility to say for a fact what would have happened if we would have allowed Iraq to remain as it was.

And yes we did not find a large stockpile of WMD. Especially the stockpile of 200 tons of VX gas that was previously tagged. I wonder who has it now? ( luckily I think it does have a shelf life)
Posted by: Max Rockatansky at February 15, 2016 09:39 AM (MNgU2)

And the other thing to remember is that unlike a nuclear weapon, chemical and biological weapons to to not need a huge infrastructure or a long time to run back up to production and a rudimentary weapon. Saddam had the plans and the know how and it should also be remembered that the International Community being the scum they are were about to lift most sanctions on Iraq allowing Saddam to do what he pleased and his history says he was pleased to make WMDs and USE them.

Of course, where I come from, it's not a sin to have a thirty year relationship with a woman incorporating sex, love and loyalty anyway. know RC priests have different rules, and I wouldn't for a moment say JP2 broke those rules.

174 Something to keep in mind: Trump, uniquely among the candidates, probably has to break 50% to have a chance.

Why? Because at some point either the convention will be brokered or the other candidates will drop out and (sort of) pledge their delegates to someone else.

It is increasingly unlikely, given his continued erratic and boorish behavior, that any of those delegates will be going to Candidate Brawndo.

So when they vote in SC, compare Trump's vote to Crubiorson's total, and you'll have a good idea where he stands.

185 146 Scalia was 79 but handled a difficult job and handled exceptionally well. He also traveled and went hunting. So, while I think he had an MI and there is nothing suspicious about it, I wish people would not put him down in backhanded ways. I would also urge people to respect his family's wishes. I would object to an autopsy, too.

Yes, reading some of the articles at different sites, it doesn't appear to be a suspicious death. The owner of the ranch, who is the one who found Scalia's body, said he was found lying peacefully in the bed, and his bed clothes were not wrinkled. He also said the door to the bedroom was locked. Another article said that the justice of the peace who declared Scalia dead of natural causes had spoken to Scalia's doctor, who told her that Scalia suffered from a number of chronic conditions. Also, the doctor had seen Scalia about a week before his death, for a shoulder injury.

When? I' love to see that because his rhetoric was anything but pro-gun owning. "Gun-dick strokers" springs immediately to mind. I think Fast and Furious really opened his eyes because at the beginning he was really pushing back against the idea that it was an honest-to-God *plan* to kill foreign civilians of a nation we weren't at war with (which I can't really blame him for, the concept is mad) but as info came out it became clear that the administration really *had* meant to do this.

Pixyware contains various eccentricities. These by tradition will all be ironed out in the next point release in #twoweeks.

Pixyware will insert emoticons in odd and startling ways. Follow the numeral 8 with a close paren and you'll get one. Always fun with neatly numbered lists of things.

Pixyware does not like the letters eye, emm, gee in immediate sequence. This is fun when attempting to post certain image links containing just that sequence.

Pixyware doesn't like long strings of text such as directly quoted URLs. Tinyurl or bit.ly are your friends here.

207 I'm laughing at Hot Air. In case people haven't read Poppin' Fresh's post, check out this typically contradictory statement (my emphasis):

Some readers may have concerns about using their real identity to
comment at Hot Air, and we certainly understand that reluctance.
Anonymous accounts can be created on Facebook, though, and those can be
used for commenting on other websites.

This will also allow Hot Air's editors to put aside policing the
comment sections. We get steady, and lately increasing, demands for
interventions in quarrels between commenters that often requires much
time and effort to unwind. Our terms of use will still be in force, but
we expect to spend very littletimemoderating comments. Since comments
will get linked to user's Facebook's identities, we expect that any
conflict between commenters can be handled between those users.
We will
modify our comments disclaimer accordingly soon to emphasize that point.

So on one hand, hey create an anonymous account...and on the other, hey things will be less fractious because people won't be using anonymous accounts.

Sigh.

If memory serves, and I believe it does...

One, he tried to hit Kuwait with a missle and just barely overshot.

Two, he did hit Israel with a missle, but it was a dud. (Perhaps it proved what some have said, his scientists told Saddam they had WMD, but they didn't or more exactly didn't have them all working.)

Three, the Iraqi air force buried their planes because we phoned and told them if they tried to fight they'd not have an air force afterward, one of the most brilliant and hilarious war moves I ever heard of.

Four, when we marched into Iraq, the people were throwing flowers and holding up babies for our soldiers to kiss they were so grateful; you don't see that footage re-run on the Laughingstock Media, ever again!

Five, most infuriating about Trump in the debate, it wasn't Bush who lost Iraq to ISIS, bumbling as the after-invasion might have been, but Obama who snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

If memory serves.

I thought I understood this state, but then I keep seeing polls where Trump is ahead by double digits.

Maybe it's just being appeased that most of these voters like, instead of any actual policy. I mean, Graham is constantly meeting people in the state, making the people feel listened to. Trump just scratches that itch in another way, by saying (and sounding like he means) that he cares.

(and even that doesn't work sometimes lately. Something to do with the text encoding but I haven't figured it out yet exactly what)

I've never understood who pasting to then copying from Notepad is supposed to work.

If you paste to Notepad and try to save in ANSI format and it tells you to use Unicode, that at least tells you that the text has characters that will choke Pixy, but it won't change them in the text - unless you save the file in ANSI and re-open it, AfAIK, and even then, you'll lose the characters, not fix them.

Best to run it through the Unicode repair site
http://bit.ly/pixyize
but if your browser won't let you do ampersands, even that won't work.

All this and more moronsplained in the survival guide.

327 run immediately to Google to look it up. You will never ever regret that life choice.

The court is busy enough without you clogging up the pipeline re: horribly cruel and hilariously unusual.

I actually found Ace through RedState around the same time. My absolutely favorite time was the 2010 elections. I still go back and check out those threads when I feel especially eeyoreish.

Awesome times.

329 Oh well, since I didn't care anymore about getting banned at HotGas I was finally able to post there that Michelle Obama looks like Chewbacca. Been wanting to do that since 2009 or so. They deleted it quickly but at least I scratched that itch.

330 So I'm sitting here thinking I'm going blind--maybe
some retinal problem or a new and improved ocular migraine symptom. Keep
seeing these very fast but small flickers of black in my lower left
field of vision. Then I notice that they are appearing in my lower right
field of vision too. Kinda like a fly zipping past you...

Then I
turn around and look out the window to see about a thousand starlings
zipping past the window behind me on their way to ravage the holly tree
out back. Realize that what I am seeing is their reflections in my
glasses.

331 ...know the exact cause of death...

I can't imagine believing anything. Even if reasonable. I'm not sure about the moon landings anymore. Every time 911 is mentioned in the media I become more suspicious. When you find out that most contemporaries didn't know FDR was wheelchair bound and having an affair with a young cousin, JFK had a serious disease, LBJ really was el blow job, all the Clinton stuff. The only thing I know is that anything in the media is factually challenged.

Just left my "hasta la bye-bye" valedictory post at HA.

I am sure thry'll enjoy the rush of exciting new zika-infested commenters under their new registry system. When it comes to matters political, Facebook is an open sewer if you do not adhere to the MSM-promulgated narratives. Beware of those who entreat non-believers to engage in "dialogue", because neither they nor the hundreds of fellow zealots lurking behind them have no intention of doing any such thing.

334 ...will you be?...

The cashless society won't work. I think the people pushing this are delusional. It won't work because people aren't robots that follow procedures perfectly. As soon as the riots break out it's over. Can't pay an army with EBT cards. Can't make a ball point pen with captive labor.

I think we lost the most thoughtful, Constitutional conservative of the bunch. And a guy who impresses me as understanding the gravity of the Presidency.
The anti-Trump if you will.

337 Iraq war and WMD
We're there missiles on a pad ready to launch at USa?
No?
So why did we do a land invasion spend a trillion $$ and lose lives?
They had less than NoKo has

IRAN had WMDs
Dubyah refused to sell Israel bunkerbusters to end that program which REALLY IS an existential threat

Why?

This is what nonpitical people think about the Iraq war

And me as well

You can't blame her. It afforded her the ability to leave NJ and move to the beautiful Rockies. Otherwise she'd be stuck in NJ sucking up to Fox etc.

349 A strong argument can be made that anyone that gives the Democrats money as a result of that Scalia email is stupid not sleazy. Sleazy to write it, sure, but smart if it works up the base enough to generate some cash.
